31.

As the old saying goes – Life comes at you fast! We are all face with occasional challenges which almost always involve needing extra money. Statistics show that commutes are getting longer, people are taking less vacations, and many work extended hours without extra pay. This makes it very hard to find the time or the energy to bring an extra income into the house. However, life is not going to stop coming and you need to find a way to be prepared for it when it gets there. What a Hassle!Right now your thoughts about earning extra income fall into one of three categories.Category One: I am already juggling work, home, kids, church, and a spouse. I do not have time for this! It is just too much of a hassle. I will somehow make do with what I have.Category Two: Even if I do find a second job it is not going to pay that well and I am not giving up my social life for a few lousy bucks. My friends and my fun are just too important to me to spend all my time at a lousy second job.Category Three: I am tired of the stress of always being under the gun and am ready to find a way to get ahead. I know it is going to take some sacrifice but I don’t want to jump every time the phone rings because it might be a bill collector and I would like to take my family on a real vacation. Somebody show me a way out of this mess!Categories one and two can stop reading now and come back if the pain gets greater. Category three read on! You are ready to take the first step to change your life, and this article can get you on the right track.Lots of AlternativesIn a lot of ways our friends in category two are right. Working a traditional second job usually will not pay that well and may indeed be more hassle than it is worth. You need to find a way to get extra income without becoming a slave to a retail store or fast food joint. The best alternative is to find a way to work at home while creating extra income. I know what you are thinking. I don’t want to stuff envelopes or make sales calls. Don’t worry! There are thousands of ways that you can make good money at home. The key is to find the one that is right for you.Building a Nest Egg Takes TimeThe old saying goes, Fix your roof while the sun is shining. Easier said than done, right? It is hard to think about the tough times when things are going good. The reason payday loan sharks are able to charge such high fees is because people just are not able to get any money put away, they get hit with a bad event, and have no other way out but to pay the outrageous fees that will give them some temporary relief.Start Looking NowThere are thousands of opportunities on the Internet to make extra money including work at home jobs, online business opportunities, affiliate marketing, writing, etc. If the sun is shining for you now, you need to get going. If the rain is pouring you really need to get going. If you think about it, even a little bit of extra income can make a big difference. How would you like to have enough money to cover your electric bill every month, or be able to fill your gas tank all the way to the top. Now is the time to make a commitment to yourself to start looking for that source of extra income. Take the first step. It costs absolutely nothing to look and you will be glad you did.
jasabacklinkpro.infojasabacklinks.infokalipakem.com

 46.

I learned this lesson in the early days of the Internet. I was in selling real estate at the time and specialized in commercial hospitality properties, such as bed and breakfasts and inns. I started building e-commerce websites in order to get beyond the local marketing in the newspaper and Multiple Listing Service (MLS) database. The only other option was taking out full-page color ads in magazines, which was a very costly proposition. At the end of a very profitable year, I reviewed the performance of the e-commerce website to see where I should invest my time and efforts in the next year. In that review, I found a concept that would change my life.I averaged about 40 leads a month from visitors who found the e-commerce website via search engines. I learned to rank well very early and applied these practices to rank for hundreds of terms in the search engines. Search engines provided about 80 percent of the traffic to my e-commerce website and hundreds of subscribers to my content. However, I did not make a single sale from those thousands of visitors. They were nice, big numbers-impressive but ineffective and unprofitable. My sales were all traced back to a single advertising link that I had purchased. That link was an advertisement for my e-commerce website on a bed-and-breakfast website directory. I purchased that link for $35 a year. A small investment yielded a thousandfold return. The lesson was reinforced as I learned to apply more marketing principles toward this new online channel. The right message in the right place to the right person can be more effective than high rankings, high visitor counts, and a great conversion rate:What counts, more than anything, is profit.Make It RightOne of my favorite shows to watch has been the Home & Garden Television channel’s Holmes on Homes. Mike Holmes is a contractor who fixes the additions, repairs, and incompetent work of other contractors. In doing so, he educates the homeowner and the viewer and advocates for better consumer rights against poor contractor workmanship.I am inspired by this show, because it mirrors my job in the online world, even to the point where I use many of the catchphrases of Holmes in my everyday work of evaluating and fixing e-commerce websites: Make it right.
47. Get it right the first time.
48. Rip it all out.
49. Gut it; start over.
50. Bring in the right people for the right job. When evaluating how e-commerce websites were programmed and built, it became apparent that so many were not built with marketing in mind. The misunderstanding of what search friendly meant and how it was interpreted made for a mess of code that never helped the companies that paid thousands of dollars for a website.Unfortunately, and unlike the home improvement industry, there is no licensing body overseeing website development and marketing. If someone builds a bad website, there is no way to recover, much less a decision-making authority that can judge a bad website. As Holmes has preached, the best way to protect yourself from a bad investment is to educate yourself and learn all the questions that you should ask. Prepare you to ask the right questions and have the right information with which to make better and more informed decisions about your e-commerce website and marketing strategy.
<a Remember that you don’t have to worry about getting approved because there are many sub-prime lenders and online auto financing companies who offer second chance car loans.Fixed or Floating?Interest rates are important criteria. There are basically 2 types of rates: Fixed interest rate and floating interest rates. The former does not fluctuate with the market forces and will remain fixed for the entire loan term. The floating interest rates will vary on the basis of market changes.Cautious about ClausesAuto loans are available to every individual irrespective of the credit score. Even if you have great credit score, you should be cautious of certain things. There might be many clauses in the auto loan contract that could force you to make heftier monthly payments. 100.

There is an ongoing PBS TV series (also several books and also a website) called “Closer To Truth”. It is hosted by neuroscientist Robert Lawrence Kuhn. He’s featured in one-on-one interviews and panel discussions with the cream of the cream of today’s cosmologists, physicists, philosophers, theologians, psychologists, etc. on all of the Big Questions surrounding a trilogy of broad topics – Cosmos; Consciousness; God. The trilogy collectively dealt with reality, space and time, mind and consciousness, aliens, theology and on and on and on. Here are a few of my comments on one of the general topics covered – Is time travel possible?# Is time travel possible? Actually I personally don’t believe time exists. Change exists, and time is just our measurement of rate of change. IMHO time is just a concept. Time is a mental construct that helps us come to terms with change. Some cosmologists say that time was created at the Big Bang, as if time were a thing with substance and structure, but I challenge them to actually create some time in front of their peers or maybe a TV audience or at least produce a theoretical equation or two that would create time. In the meantime, here’s a trilogy of points.First, the concept of time travel is one of those fun parts of physics. Whether true or not, it is entertaining to play the ‘what if’ game. If nothing else, the concept makes or forces one to think about the nature of reality.Secondly, Einstein and others have postulated that time travel is a theoretical reality and I’m not in their sort of league that I can dispute the theories. I’ll leave that to others who know the field inside and out.But thirdly, and most importantly, you can never actually be in the future or the past, only in the future or the past compared to where and when you are now. In other words, no matter how you slice and dice things, you exist in the where-ever and in the whenever in that where-ever’s or whenever’s NOW or in other words in the present. You cannot literally be in any future or in any past since you only experience the NOW which is the present. If you should somehow travel back one hour, you would still experience things as belonging to NOW. If you sleep for one hour then wake up, you are in the future relative to when you went to sleep, but you still find yourself in the NOW.# Is time travel possible? The answer is both yes and no. Yes, we can travel into the future at one second per second, we do that anyway whether we like it or not. Yes we can travel into the future at a slightly quicker rate by going to sleep or otherwise having our sense of consciousness, our awareness of rate of change (which is what time really is or measures) incapacitated. You get drunk and pass out and the next thing you know you are 12 hours into the future. Yes we can travel into the future as outlined by Einstein’s twin ‘paradox’ where one twin travels at a very high rate of speed outward bound, stops and returns to home base, while the stay at home twin, well, stays home. Upon their reunion the travelling twin finds their stay at home twin to be far older, so the travelling twin has travelled into the future more rapidly than would otherwise have been the case. Yes, you can travel back in time, in theory, according to the apparent theoretical properties that wormholes or black holes can have. No, you can’t travel to the past because of all of those nasty paradoxes. I like the variation on the grandfather paradox whereby you travel back just one hour into the past and shoot yourself dead. That’s a novel way of committing suicide! The other paradox I like is when you go back in time to have Shakespeare autograph your copy of “Hamlet”. Shakespeare isn’t home but the maid promises to have him autograph your book when he returns. Alas, your timing is slightly off and Shakespeare hasn’t yet written “Hamlet”, so when he receives your copy from his maid to autograph, he reads it, and after you return to Shakespeare’s home and receive back your now autographed copy and return home to your own time, Shakespeare now writes “Hamlet”. The paradox is, where did “Hamlet” come from since Shakespeare only wrote it after he had already seen your copy. No, you can’t travel back to the past because if that were possible there would be hoards of time-travelling tourists who went back in time to witness some important historical event or other. No hoards of photo-snapping tourists have ever been documented being present at Custer’s Last Stand, the Battle of the Alamo, the sinking of RMS Titanic, or any one of thousands of similar historical events. Yes, you can travel back in time but only into a parallel universe. If you shoot yourself but it is another you in another universe, no paradox arises. You travel back in time to have Shakespeare autograph your copy of “Hamlet” but in that parallel universe Shakespeare can now write “Hamlet” based on your copy and no paradox results. However, the one point I find interesting is that if you end up in the future, or in the past, are you really in the future or the past? No, the only time you can exist in is the present, your right here and NOW time. It might be a different time from what you previously knew, but still wherever and whenever you exist, you only exist in the NOW.# Is time travel possible? It could already be the case that time travel has been documented at the quantum level although that could be open to interpretation. Before I get to the specifics, I just need to point out that with respect to the laws, principles and relationships of physics, time is invariant. Operations in physics remain invariant in time whether time is moving as we normally perceive it (past to future) or back to front (future to past). For example, gravity would operate as per its normal grab-ity self in a world where time flowed backwards. There’s many an operation one could film that when the film were run backwards, one wouldn’t be any the wiser. Tree branches blowing in the wind comes to mind, or the coming together, collision, and rebounding or separation of two billiard balls. Okay, having established that when it comes to physics, physics doesn’t care which direction time is flowing, there will be no violations in those laws, principles and relationships of physics future to past, we now come to the delayed double slit experiment. In the normal double slit experiment, you have an electron gun that fires one electron particle at a time, such that one electron completes its journey before the next one is fired, at two side-by-side slits. If one or the other slit is open, the one-at-a-time electrons pass through the open slit to a detector screen behind the slits. The detector screen gets hit in nearly the same spot every time after each and every electron particle passes through the single open slit. That is straight forward. If both slits are open, the electron shape-shifts into a wave (how I don’t know), passes through both slits (as only a wave can), morphs back into a particle and hits the detector screen. The difference is that after enough electrons have been fired, and have passed or waved through the double slits, the hits on the detector screen are not in just one or two spots but all-over-the-map, albeit all-over-the-map in a classic wave interference pattern. Okay, that’s the classic experiment. Now we do a variation on the theme, the delayed double slit experiment. Electrons are fired one-at-a-time, with both slits wide open. An all-over-the-map classic wave interference pattern should appear on the normal detector screen after enough electrons have been fired. However, in addition to the normal detection screen, there are two other detectors positioned behind the normal detector screen that are each in an exact line-of-sight with each of the two slits. The electron is fired. It morphs into a wave and passes through both slits then morphs back into a particle. But before the electron, which has already passed through both slits, can hit the detector screen, the detector screen is removed to reveal behind it the other two line-of-sight detectors. Now presumably once the electron has passed though the double slits it’s too little too late to change its mind about where it’s going to hit. Only a tiny few should be detected by the two line-of-sight detectors aligned with the two slits. Alas, each and every electron will be detected by one or the other of the line-of-sight detectors. It would appear that the electron CAN change its mind after it has already gone through both slits and instead appear to have gone through one or the other of the two slits. One interpretation is that the electron, after having passed through both slits, realised the gig was up, travelled back in time, retraced its path and passed through one or the other slit.As an aside, the late Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman noted that the double slit experiment went to the heart of quantum weirdness. I mention this because it was the same Richard Feynman who suggested that a positron (an anti-electron) was just an ordinary electron that was going backwards in time.# Is time travel possible? I have several other points to make about the concept of time travel.Firstly, there is Stephen Hawking’s idea of a Chronology Protection Conjecture which postulates that there is some as yet undiscovered law of physics which prevents time travel to the past and thus makes the cosmos a safe place for historians to strut their stuff.Secondly, it has been said that you cannot travel farther back in time than the date your time travel ‘device’ was constructed, be it a wormhole or some other gizmo. So if some genius builds a time travelling ‘device’ in 2014, he’s not going anywhere into the past. But in 2015 he can travel back to 2014 and in 2114 he could travel back to any time between 2114 and 2014. The analogy is that you cannot travel through a tunnel prior to when that tunnel was built. Thus, we don’t see human time travelers because no human time travelling ‘device’ has yet been constructed. The flaw there is that doesn’t prohibit ET from visiting who might have constructed a time travelling ‘device’ millions of years ago. Recall those pesky UFOs though they don’t seem to cluster around significant terrestrial historical events so maybe ET doesn’t care about our history and are just here on vacation from their future.Thirdly, presumably your time travelling ‘device’ is fixed at some sort of celestial coordinates. Because everything in the cosmos is in motion, when you re-emerge into that cosmos after starting on a time travelling journey, while you may be at those same fixed celestial coordinates the rest of the cosmos would have moved to differing celestial coordinates. So, if you start out in London you won’t end up in London on down, or up, the time travelling track. Finally, the concept of your, or the future or of the past or your past is only relative to what you choose as some fixed point. If you pick your date of birth as that fixed point, then clearly you are now in the future relative to your date of birth. If you pick the concept of an ever ongoing NOW, the present, as a fixed point, you are neither in the future or the past relative to the NOW nor will you ever be. That of course doesn’t mean you can’t recall your past, what existed before your NOW (although the past in general is more abstract) or plan for your future after your NOW (although the future in general is beyond your control).# Is time travel possible? There’s yet another form of time travel, or at least the illusion of time travel, and that’s via the cinema. Films and TV shows involving time travel are many and often legendary. But that’s not quite the medium I wish to explore here. One can program time travel into a computer simulation. You can have a video game where the characters travel backwards (or forwards) in time, or have a software program that loops around back to the beginning. Now the question is, might we be characters or virtual beings in a Simulated (Virtual Reality) Universe? If so, the software programs that run our virtual show might allow for time travel, or virtual time travel, yet still time travel that would appear to us to be quite real. Now where does our sense of deja vu really come from?# Is time travel possible? There is one other form of pseudo ‘time travel’ towards the future that can be debunked. Presumably the only way you can know what the future brings, without benefit of any theoretical ‘device’ that can propel you there at a greater rate of knots than at one second per second, is to stay alive. Once you kick-the-bucket that’s it. Your second per second journey towards the future is over. It’s a pity that that worthless stock you hold just happens to sky-rocket to fantastic values within a week of your demise, or maybe you’d really like to know if ET exists but the discovery happens a few days too late as far as you are concerned. Of course some might claim an afterlife will enable you to keep up to date with future happenings from that heavenly vantage point high up in the sky, but apart from that, there are those who claim to have led past lives or existed in past incarnations. Thus, you can still continue your journey to discover what the future holds by passing on to another body via being conceived again (and again and again). There’s one huge problem however with ‘remembering’ alleged past lives. Your mother’s egg cell cannot remember your past lives. Your father’s sperm cell cannot have any recollection of your past lives. Therefore, the you that comes to pass at conception cannot hold any memory of past lives. So, where did your memory of past lives come from? Might I suggest that it was internally generated out of wishful thinking, that perhaps a belief that you existed in the past will give rise to a belief that you will exist again in the future, and as a pseudo form of afterlife and as a pseudo form of ‘time travel’ that gives you comfort. Anyway, that concept is a really far out methodology of ‘time travel’ but one which can be dismissed despite the many people who seemingly believe that they indeed have ‘time travelled’ towards their endless future via this method.

 115.

No doubt, debt effect sometime becomes very awful. It can increase your debt burden, affect your monthly budget and so on. Thus, you need to follow a proper programme to manage your all debts. In that case, debt management can be bedecked for you. What is Debt Management? As the name refers, debt management is a process that helps debtors to manage their debts. It includes the methods like debt consolidation, debt negotiation, debt elimination etc.Different methods:Various processes of debt management are as follows:oDebt consolidation: This process emphasizes on consolidating various debts into one single debt. Generally, in such cases borrowers avail a separated loan that covers all the existing loans of borrowers. And by combing all debts into one, a borrower can easily manage his debts.
116. These days, debt consolidation loans are easily available. Besides, debt consolidation can be done through mortgage, remortgage, credit cards, home equity and through debt settlement.oDebt negotiation: Debt negotiation is also a popular process. Here negotiation plays an important role between borrowers and creditors. By trying to negotiate with creditors for debts, a borrower can make the terms and condition in his favour. Thus, it helps him to manage his debts.oDebt elimination: Debt elimination is also a useful programme for managing debts. In the programme of debt elimination borrowers can be able to eliminate 100% of their credit card debts. Many agencies provide debt elimination services that will help you to know how you can eliminate creditor’s payments.Debt management service:Debt management services are also available these days. These services offer counseling on making budgets, credit and housing counseling and debt repayment plan.
117. In return, they may ask for a commission for the transfer or get fees from the lenders. However, normally, these services are provided for the debts that are unsecured.Coming out of debts is not as easy as getting into it. Thus, a borrower needs to follow a debt management programme that will enable him to manage his debts properly and stay away from debt-difficulties. Besides, taking some initiatives can be helpful to manage debts, like:Making proper budget and following it: By making, a proper budget regarding your expenses and following it properly, you will be able to reduce your debts.Lessen expenses: At the time of following the budget, expenses need to be maintained. Borrowers try to spend money for relevant purposes instead of overspending.

 132.

As a provider of several different ecommerce shopping cart websites to clients all over the world, there is one particular question that I get asked time and time again: “Should I use a free ecommerce shopping cart or a hosted solution?”. My reply is always the same: “It will depend on your specific requirements”.I have always said that no one ecommerce solution can cater to every single customers individual requirements. We will all have different needs, and we will be trying to achieve different end results.I wanted to take a look at the pros and cons of these two different types of ecommerce options. What are the differences?Usually with a free ecommerce shopping cart you will need to do everything yourself. From choosing your domain name, to selecting hosting, installing your ecommerce software, designing it etc. With a hosted ecommerce solution provider many of the required steps are already taken care of for you. You still need to decide upon & register your domain name, but hosting is taken care of by the ecommerce company that you choose.Hopefully taking a look at the pros and cons of each will help you to decide which best suits what you are looking for.Free Ecommerce Shopping CartWith a free platform you will first need to decide on platform you would like to use. Zen Cart and OS commerce are popular but are getting old and becoming less supported. Magento, Presta shop and X cart are the choice of the professionals, but have a steeper learning curve.Pros
133. It’s free! – You can’t get any cheaper than getting something for free ay?
134. No tie-ins – There are no commitments with free ecommerce solutions. If one particular platform is not working for you, you can usually just start again on another ecommerce platform.
135. You have full control – The great thing about hosting and running your own ecommerce store is that you will have full control over all aspects of your store and so cn be a bit more flexible. Some people may find a hosted solution quite restrictive.
136. Cons
137. Little to no direct support – You are usually on your own support wise when it comes to free ecommerce solutions. So if something goes wrong, you’ll need to either consult forums for the answer yourself, or outsource and hire a developer to fix things for you.
138. It’s harder to install a new theme – Depending on the ecommerce solution you choose, installing a new theme can be a complicated process. You will usually need to access your websites core files and upload your new theme using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software such as file zilla.
139. Updates – You will usually be on your own when it comes to ensuring your shopping cart software is up to date. Some updates for the software you are using could include important security patches or bug fixes.
140. Security – How secure your website is from hackers will rest with you and you alone.
141. Hosted Ecommerce Shopping CartThere are several companies out there not that provide a hosted solution for a reasonable monthly fee. Each company also has their own pros and cons as well as differing feature-wise. You will need to invest time into deciding which best fits your needs. Big commerce, Volusion and Actinic are popular choices.Pros
142. Free themes – Several free themes are available for hosted ecommerce solutions that are usually just one click away to install.
143. Better support – The majority of hosted ecommerce solutions will have a helpful in-house support team that you can turn to if you are having any problems with your store.
144. Updates – The ecommerce company that you choose will usually ensure all customers are running the latest versions of their software.
145. Security – No ecommerce company would want their platform – or a customers website to be hacked. The majority will do all they can to reduce the chances of this happening.
146. Easy installation – Most hosted solutions are very simple to set up. It’s usually just a case of entering your details.
147. Cons
148. Not as flexible – Those who prefer to spead their wings and experiment with their store may find a hosted solution quite restrictive.
149. You’re tied in to a monthly fee – Whether your website becomes instantly profitable or not, you will be tied in to paying a monthly fee that will range anything from $10 – $20PM.
150. No core file access – For security reasons hosted solutions will not give you access to your websites raw code. They instead make all aspects of your store editable by using the likes of a WYSIWYG editor ( what you see is what you get ).
151. So as you can see, the choice when it comes to ecommerce is not an easy one. I personally prefer the flexibility that the free ecommerce platforms can provide; but I can also see why hosted ecommerce solutions are becoming more and more popular.

 167.

Looking for corporate entertainment booking ideas? Well, we believe that we have some ideas that will help to create the perfect evening (hey, your boss may even give you a raise after he sees how well you organize this one). Here are some of our suggestions:Corporate Event EntertainmentFirstly, what type of entertainers do you have at a corporate event? Well, that will depend on what type of evening you want for your guests and what the expectations regarding this event are. When it comes to corporate entertainment booking you may be looking at the following types of entertainment:

 168.
DJ’s, singers or live bands
169. Magicians
170. Jugglers
171. Impressionists
172. Comedians
173. Roasters
174. motivational speakers
175. other types of entertainment
176. Event MarketingSo you have a great corporate entertainment booking and you need to let everyone know about it as soon as possible. Snail mail invitations are definitely out when it comes to corporate entertainment booking, you simply have to have something more tech savvy and today that means making use of Web 2.0 technology.Go to Events Listed to sign up for a free account where you will be able to make your own personalized web page for your corporate entertainment booking. Once you have done this you will be able to use their over 60 different multimedia applications to quickly and easily create a web page to promote your corporate entertainment booking – you do not need any special technical knowledge to do this and you won’t need to get your IT guy involved.Just make sure you get some video footage or audio clips from your entertainers that you can put up on the page – have a few preview tricks from the magician or songs from your live band or singers. Design the rest of your page around your corporate entertainment booking so that people know where the focus is.Once you have created a great page then send out emails to all your colleagues informing them of your corporate entertainment booking and asking them to respond online. While they are checking out your page for more details and to reply they will also be able to see who else is coming, who is not coming and who still needs to reply. You can even add their photos next to their names to make it more personal for them.At the corporate entertainment booking be sure to take plenty of photos and video footage to put up on your web page afterwards (or maybe even have a live video feed for those who are unable to attend). Then not only will those who attended the event be able to enjoy it (and remember it afterwards) but those who did not attend will be able to take part. When organizing a corporate entertainment booking it is also important to try and get other people involved so that you do not land with all the work yourself and a great way to co-ordinate this is also with your corporate entertainment booking web page. There are tools such as task managers and budget managers that make it easier for you to plan the whole event. Ensure that people know what they are doing, how much money they have to work with and when they need it done by and then hold them accountable for finishing it to budget and on time.

 200.

Two years ago at age 45, I suffered what should have been a fatal, massive heart attack while lifting weights early in the morning. An amazing string of miracles kept me around. Each year, I share the insights gained from this wonderful experience. Shocking as it sounds, I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world. Before we get to the insights, here is a short background on what happened. Early Wednesday, November 27, 2013, I was doing bench press when I felt a serious pain in the middle of my chest. Since I had no shortness of breath or radiating arm pain, I did another set then switched to legs thinking I had strained a pec muscle. Things got worse, so I self-medicated with aspirin and drove myself to the ER, a few miles away. After calmly asking for an EKG to rule out any heart issues, I spent about 90 minutes in the ER awaiting a diagnosis.Turns out a piece of plaque had broken off, traveled through my left main artery (called the “widow maker”), and became stuck creating a 100% blockage. The first miracle was my heart didn’t explode while I was doing bench press. Eventually, a senior cardiac surgeon arrived and decided to immediately go up my leg to find what was wrong. Miracles #2 and #3 are that he was the one on call that day – I found out later that many of his colleagues would not have attempted to do this since it was so risky – and that the surgery actually worked. I didn’t find out about either of these until months later.Start to finish from first pain to wheeling out of the surgery was about three hours. That’s only the start. The first post-recovery phase I experienced is what I refer to as the “denial” phase as in it was all only a bad dream. How could an otherwise reasonably health 45-year old have a heart attack? Once I accepted it actually happened (a few weeks), I moved to the “irrational exuberance” phase. This is sort of like winning the lottery or nearly being run over by a bus. It lasted several months until it dawned on me that my life wasn’t going to change (meaning I was headed back to previous circumstances), unless I proactively made change happen. That’s when the “I don’t want to blow my second chance at life” third phase started. Fortunately for me, I am still experiencing the third phase.Recovery shrunk the amount of time, energy, and emotion I could devote to work. The episode also gave me a different perspective on life, and drove me to restructure my law practice in January 2015. Enough about what happened, here’s what I learned in year two from all this.1. You cannot do it all.For all of us Type-A, visionary personalities, this was a bitter pill for me to swallow. However, it is undeniably true. After many hours of self reflection and reading at least 10 times The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, it finally sunk in that success and meaning lie on obsessive focus on the few things that matter as opposed to obsessively focusing on achieving many things. This led me to getting clear on my purpose in life as well as the priorities needed to achieve that purpose, and developing a willingness to say no to anything not connected to my “One Thing.” I also developed a much more efficient process for getting work done to free up more time for my “One Thing.” See my previous post on task and project management.2. Living your life on “house money” provides a great perspective.Like other survivors, I shouldn’t be here. Every day is a bonus for me, but like you, I am still moving toward my end. Initially, I used this viewpoint to develop a better strategy for handling adversity: whatever situation I was facing couldn’t possibly be as bad as the alternative. I still lean on that perspective occasionally. However, I have progressed to looking at life with an urgency to not blow this blessed and lucky second chance. That focuses me on my “One Thing” to the exclusion of the many distractions we each face daily. If I could go back in time, this is the one lesson I wish I would have embraced much younger.3. You are only as good as your team. Before this happened, I would do my job and the job of low performing employees. I failed to effectively set and communicate performance expectations to peers and team members. I also didn’t like holding people accountable even where performance expectations were set but not met. Looking back, I put the desire to be liked ahead of team performance. In September 2014, I attended a presentation by Rand Stagen, where he cautioned “a leader gets the organization that he/she deserves.” That was yet another wake up call for me leading me to set a clear, written vision for our law firm along with performance expectations and consequences for not performing. People were either attracted to the vision or repelled by it. After several painful months, we restructured the business and successfully re-launched in January 2015 as a technology and intellectual property law firm with a cohesive vision. Freed from billable hour requirements, my chief priority is helping our leadership team and others in the business succeed. My success is tied to their success. I even found the time to start a charity.I hope you found something useful in this article. I’ve been very open about my experience with the goal of providing someone the benefit of the insights I gained without having to go through a near-death experience. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions about my experience.

 215.

How To Market Your Music More EffectivelyKnowing how to market your music is without a doubt THE most important thing you can do for your music business and your music career as a whole. You know it’s something that must be handled and if you’re not making efforts to learn how to market your music more effectively then you should know that, at the very least, nothing serious will ever happen in your music business career. The first thing to ask yourself is whether or not you’re currently managing the most basic elements of an effective music marketing campaign. What do I mean by this?To begin it’s important to assess where you’re at right now and determine whether or not you know and understand exactly what the basic components of an effective music marketing campaign are? Let’s face it, if you plan on making a name for yourself in the music industry it’s important to realize you’ll be investing a lot of your personal time and money into your music career. If you’re certain your absolute goal is to mold your music talents into a true “music business” and you have no doubts about the career path you’ve chosen… then you’ll want to be as efficient and productive as you can possibly be.Most indie bands and musicians whether from the Rock, Hip Hop, Folk or any genre for that matter, tend to work on only one or two of the three essential requirements of effective music marketing. For instance most musicians are great at connecting with audiences. What with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube in the mix, communications have become stupid simple for today’s musician. On the other hand, asking for the sale is occasionally handled effectively but tends to be approached hap-hazardly and without a formula or the necessary accompanying awareness campaigns. This lack-luster approach tends to dampen the efforts of even the hardest working bands and musicians in the industry. Unfortunately, applying only one or even two of these key components without the essential third element in a music marketing campaign won’t bring in maximum returns for the time invested. This just isn’t how to market music effectively.Don’t get me wrong, getting your name out there and partaking in conversations with fans can be cool, even self gratifying and it’s definitely better than not doing anything at all, but imagine how much more effective you’d be if you went to work on all of these essential marketing aspects of your music business armed with a formula and a pin-point focused purpose. The Solution To Ineffective Music MarketingThe bottom line is that when you break down the ins and outs on how to market your music effectively, it becomes apparent that as a musician, it’s important to discipline yourself to focus on the elements that are most productive for your music business growth. Broken down in an easy to follow process these elements of music marketing and music promotion essentially consist of a 3 step formula:Step #1 – Create Awareness: Find an audience who appreciates your music style, your sound and your identity. Take the steps necessary to communicate your musical message to them. Everything you do should create an awareness for you and your music at all times. Approach this with precision and a firm direction and your music business foundation will be solidified for years to come.Step #2 – Connect with Your Audience: I mentioned earlier how stupid simple it is to connect with fans today. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the many other online “hangouts” make this process a breeze. Once you’ve laid the initial groundwork and you’ve made your audience aware of exactly what you have to offer, work on maintaining those important on-going relationships with your fans, the media and the all important music business contacts you collect along the way. Your fans and contacts want to know that you’re for real. That you care about them. That you’re here for the long-haul. Making connections with them and keeping them involved in your growth process will ensure this happens for you.Step #3 – Sell Your Stuff (Ask for the sale): This one is essential. If you don’t have products to sell… you DON’T have a music business. Working to create a steady, consistent cash flow for your music business is paramount to your long-term success. Entice fans to spend their money and buy your stuff and the rest of your music marketing processes will flow and flourish so much easier.Yes! It’s Easier Said Than DoneI recognize that it’s easier to talk about these things than it is to make them happen in your career but this is what the music business is all about so incorporating these processes into your music business campaign is a must, or you simply won’t last long enough to make dent in the music world. And that’s not what we want for your music career… is it?Again, it might seem easy enough to map these things out on paper but the truth is that most bands and musicians will find a hundred and one ways to screw this up.You’ll either spend too much time on creating awareness and connecting with your audience but then fail to ask for the sale. Or you’ll ask for the sale way to often and forget about connecting with your people. I mentioned earlier that it’s cool to get all gung-ho, get busy, and head on out there and do a bunch of music marketing, but if you’re not touching all three elements of this process on how to market music, then you’re missing the boat and more importantly… you’re fans won’t be “feeling” your vibe. They just won’t connect with you on a deeper level. Without connection, there’s no sales and without sales, you don’t have a music business.Don’t Fall Into the Marketing Music Business TrapYou’ve seen them. They’re all over the place. Lame press releases that musicians love to send out nowadays. These press releases are posted and delivered to my inbox on a daily basis with headlines like: “Johnny Come Lately, the Latest Album Release from the 123 How To Rock & Roll Band”. Go ahead… admit it. You’ve probably sent out something like this yourself at one time or another.Unfortunately there are some problems with this spray and pray technique that will be blatantly obvious when you stack up a headline like this against my 3 step process. See the press release handles the “Creating Awareness” aspect and even touches lightly on the “Selling Your Stuff” step but it fails to connect and that my friend is a no no. It’s 100% self interested and sadly, it will fail every time it’s used.Fans and media see right through this. All the band wants is the money. For some unknown reason the band is expecting us to head on over to the link included in their press release and click on the buy button. But where’s the connection? What about the awareness we need BEFORE they ask for the sale?Think about it. Have you ever bought an album, or anything for that matter, without some type of emotional connection? Chances are you haven’t. If you think you have… think about it again. I’m certain you’ll reflect and realize that a connection of some sort was definitely involved in your purchase. Musicians who make this unforgivable marketing mistake should be ashamed of themselves. If this is the only way you’re promoting and marketing your music take an hour or so to track your results.I’m willing to bet what you find isn’t very encouraging. Are You Leaving Money On The Table? Now let’s look at the flip side. What about musicians who connect with us masterfully but never ask for the sale? You’ve experienced it and honestly, you probably love them. You dig their music, love their stage presence and you love to hear from them. But when you want to support them and demonstrate your love… you just don’t know where to go. They never tell you where you can buy their stuff. Not a great formula for success right? If you’re not asking for the sale then you’re failing your fans. Fans who love bands love to buy “stuff” from bands. You can’t drop the ball on this. Without generating cash flow, you simply won’t succeed in the music business. It’s too expensive to work a music business without cash flow. The fun dries up real quick when the money keeps pouring out, but never flows back in. Don’t be that band, don’t be that musician. How To Make The 3 Step Music Marketing Formula Work For YouI realize that you may not have a lot of time in your life. You might be working a 9-5 at this point or maybe your touring schedule is insane. Regardless of your current situation, it’s important to take some time out to implement these 3 activities into your music business promotions. Start by cutting back on an hour of television every day and put that time into creating awareness of your music.Find out where your fans hangout and get active with them. Let them know what you’re up to. Create some behind the scenes videos on your studio recording sessions and your touring trips in the van on the way to your next gig. Let fans get to know who you are. Let them see you in real life situations. This creates rapport and connection all while you build awareness… double whammy. What do you do when you hit the bathroom? Personal question I know but stick with me for a bit. Why not take your smart phone in with you next time and instead of reading the latest updates on Facebook, post something relevant on your fanpage. Answer one or two of your fan questions on your timeline or tweet them out for everyone to see. Why not share or re-tweet a fan post? In other words, connect with your audience everyday for at least 15-20 minutes. Find the time one way or another. We can all find 20 minutes in a day if we REALLY want to.
