18.

Almost every teacher wants to buy a Christmas gift for each one of their students-but with classes of 30+ kids.it just gets too darn expensive! If you are middle school, high school, or "specials" teacher then you have 100+ kids.and buying a gift for that many kids is just INSANE! If you are looking for something cheap (and cute) check out what I made for my kiddos. Are they not cute? I mean look at their cheery faces and cute little red noses!! With a little assembly time and about 10 bucks, you can make these Rudolph suckers for your whole class. You will need: green construction paper (1 sheet of paper per reindeer) tootsie pops (red and 1 per reindeer) $2.25 a bag at WalMart with 10 suckers in each bag black sharpie scissors scotch tape Next, cut the pattern out. This is what takes the most time-those dang antlers and ears are are tricky little things! Make sure you cut out the hole in the center-this is where the sucker will go for the red nose. I know my picture doesn't show the hole missing-so just don't forget! Then, fold the reindeer in half and put a strong crease at the bottom (the chin of the reindeer). After that, open up the reindeer and place the sucker inside. The sucker straw will poke through the tiny little hole at the bottom of the reindeer (if you look at the picture above-its the tiny hole between the two big holes). Fold the reindeer with the sucker inside. Next, use little pieces of scotch tape to to secure the sucker. I placed the scotch tape on the "cheeks"of the reindeer and on some of the antlers. Finally, write a message on the back and draw on Rudolph's face! And.voila! A cute, cheep and festive Christmas gift for you kiddos!

 27.

What do you buy a digital artist for Christmas? They doubtless already have all the software and hardware they need, so unless you're planning to spend a fortune on a Wacom Cintiq 27QHD or perhaps an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, you can forget about buying them something for their job. So instead we've put together an assortment of quirky, stylish and god-damn adorable gifts for the discerning digital artist, which you can order today and get delivered in plenty of time for Christmas. There's something for every budget and for all tastes, so we can guarantee you'll find the ideal Christmas present here. So what are you waiting for? Get shopping! 01. Blooming skull print Give any studio a bucolically macabre touch with this fantastic floral skull print. Printed on 100% cotton canvas and gallery wrapped around a 38mm wooden frame, this wonderfully detailed 40x55cm print by Bitten London will liven up a boring old wall with its eye sockets that follow you round the room. Need something a bit larger? Bigger sizes are available, up to 100x135cm. 02. Handmade leather-bound sketchbook If you've got the pencils then you'll need something to draw on, and you can sketch in style with this sumptuous leather-bound sketchbook. Made by KT Design Studio, this hardcover journal is handmade and hand-embossed, measures 10" by 3" and comes complete with 300 pages of white drawing paper. 03. LEGO Architecture – Eiffel Tower It wouldn't be a roundup of Christmas gifts without a bit of LEGO, and there's an insane variety of stuff to choose from this year. We've plumped for this fab little Eiffel Tower; other famous buildings in the LEGO Architecture range include the Seattle Space Needle, the Lincoln Memorial and a wonderfully detailed Trevi Fountain. 04. Jam and chocolate spread gift set It looks like a box of paints, but inside these metal tubes you'll instead find a selection of gourmet fruit jams, fruit jams with port, or chocolate spread. Crammed with southern European flavours, these delightful concoctions are perfect for spreading on toast, crumpets, scones and consenting adults. 05. Tatooine travel print It's hard to get away from Star Wars this Christmas, but if you're going to give a Star Wars related gift then at least make sure it's one with a bit of style. This 61x81cm poster pays homage to retro travel posters and neatly captures the desert world of Tatooine, complete with its twin suns, and to make it extra special you can have it framed as well. 06. Retro Trimphone The perfect gift for anyone still clinging on to their land line, this is a replica of the 1970s design classic that graced all the hippest houses in the days before punk rock existed. Available in a range of suitably retro colours – opt for the mustardy Old Gold for ultimate 70s styling – it's ready to plug into your phone socket, and the old-fashioned rotary dial has been upgraded with push buttons. 07. 1/12 scale posable figure Every digital artist needs a posable model to get human figures just right, and this one, made by Sarah Beare in Norwich, is a bit special. It's a 1/12 scale female model that stands six inches tall, made from 33 pieces that were sculpted by hand, cast in resin and then trimmed, drilled, smoothed and fitted together by hand before being finished with beeswax. It's not cheap, but it's a beautiful and practical gift that's a work of art in itself. 08. The Batman print Before Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton and even Adam West, Lewis Wilson was Batman in a low-budget 15-chapter adventure made in 1943, at the height of the Second World War. Featuring Batman and Robin battling against an evil Japanese scientist, it's breathless, over-the-top stuff that later inspired the 1960s Batman TV series, and this theatrical release poster gloriously sums up its silliness. 09. Periodic table of game controllers poster How many of these game controllers can you identify? This poster showcases controller design from the very first games console, 1972's Magnavox Odyssey, up to the Nintendo DS in 2008, with some weird and wonderful designs along the way. It's interesting to see functional rectangles gradually give way to more ergonomic shapes; we reckon it all peaked with the N64 trident in 1995. 10. iPad folio case Make an iPad Air/Air 2 stand out with this folio case designed by Fimbis. Handmade from durable (and animal cruelty-free) vegan leather, it'll protect an iPad with its hard inner casing, and it features three card pockets as well as an extra large pocket for holding paper, as well as a built-in stand.

 54.

Want to avoid the mall, save some money and give a gift that's really personal? Liz Toohey-Wiese is a Vancouver artist who works at Collage Collage, a crafts studio on Main Street. (Mieke Van Delft) "It's so simple to look up things online, or find tutorials online, or take a workshop, " said Toohey-Wiese. who works at crafts studio Collage Collage on Main Street. "There's so many workshops going on this year, that I've seen homemade canning workshops, there's lots of cooking and baking workshops, there's art workshops." Here are her top five do-it-yourself holiday gift ideas. 1. Handmade cards "This one is easy. Every year I print my drawings or paintings onto Christmas cards. But you can use your own doodles, photographs, Instagram posts, you name it! Collection of cozy cabin cards made by Liz Toohey-Wiese. (Liz Toohey-Wiese.) You can make multiple Christmas cards all at once, and your friends and family are really going to appreciate the extra-personalized touch to their cards this year. Print them out on cardstock at home, or go to your favourite local print shop and get some professionals to help you out." 2. Mini woven ornaments A collection of the Toohey-Wiese's handmade woven ornaments. (Liz Toohey-Wiese) "I am a weaver, but the pieces I make in my art practice take a bit too long to give to everyone on my list! This year I am making mini woven ornaments for everyone. I can't wait to see these guys hanging on my friends and family's trees, and they are simple enough anyone can learn to make them! Here is an easy tutorial I found online." 3. Snow globe Collage Collage’s snow globe kit in action. (Collage Collage) "This one is for my nieces! This is a kit so the kids can make their own snow globe, it ups the handmade factor since the recipient makes the snow globe themselves! A mason jar is filled with modeling clay, a plastic animal and tree, and lots and lots of glitter. This gift is good for ages 3 to 103! This would be an easy project to make yourself, or grab one of the kits from Collage Collage which has everything included!" 4. Food "My favourite food gifts usually come as homemade canned goods: smoked salmon or antipasto dip. Homemade cookies have been given around a lot in my family, learn someone's favourite recipe and package them up! Homemade foods can make a great gift, Liz Toohey-Wiese says. (Getty Images) Another idea is to make an IOU for one special homemade dinner (through experience I have learned this is an especially good present for us children to give to our parents!). I'm pretty sure you'll have nicer memories from those experiences than anything you got at the mall.

Simple everyday arts and crafts can be inspired by any product, any experience, at any time. Here are some ideas to try if you are blind or have low vision: Continue to seek creative ideas from magazines or newsletters, but use large print or audio media. Seek inspiration at art and craft shows with friends who have similar interests. Join a craft group to gain new ideas in familiar areas, or take a new class at an adult education program to learn a different type of craft. Visit a preschool or elementary art class and have fun with young creative minds that know no boundaries! Teachers are always looking for volunteers and young children enjoy creating—and their enthusiasm may inspire you. Talk about your interests with others. In this way you're giving others an opportunity to exchange ideas with you, and keep up-to-date with current trends.

 81.

What if I told you there was something you could do this holiday season that would make you feel like you had more hours in the day, while also increasing self-confidence, improving physical health, and creating long-lasting memories that you treasure forever? Sound too good to be true? It isn't. A recent study from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania found that when people volunteered—carving out even a small amount of time in their day to help someone else—they experienced feelings of efficiency and competence. These feelings gave people the sense that they could do quite a bit with their limited time. In other words, when you give time, you feel like you have more time. If you have kids, it’s a parenting no-brainer to get involved in a service project this holiday season. Several studies have shown that kids who volunteer experience a positive effect on their grades, attitudes toward education, and self-esteem. Volunteering also leads to reduced drug use and huge declines in dropout rates and teen pregnancies. There is also research linking youth volunteering to a higher quality of life as an adult, and showing that families that focus more on the material side of the holidays tend to feel less happy than families that focus on spending time together. What better way to spend time together than volunteering? It’s really the best gift you can give your children and yourselves. I started incorporating service projects into our family’s holiday traditions a few years ago after I read a book that emphasized the idea that rituals are about passing down your values and beliefs to your children. And it hit me that even though I always tell my kids that Christmas is about giving, it had really become more about baking and wrapping and singing, with a token volunteer project thrown in. Although these family rituals are still important to us, I realized that I also wanted to establish service as a huge part of what we do during the holidays. The kids liked it so much that it stuck, and we tend to do one service project a month. Part of the key to our success with the projects is letting the kids pick out what they want to do. My oldest loves animals, so she tends to pick animal-focused charities. My middle daughter is all about art, so she likes anything that involves painting, making cards, or assembling craft kits. My little one just wants to keep up with her sisters, so she’s happy for now just imitating what they’re doing. For our family (or maybe really for me), the simpler the project, the more successful it’s been.

 90.

If you're looking for inexpensive gift ideas for friends, neighbors and co-workers this year, homemade gifts might be the answer. Lifestyle guru Nancy Soriano offers some ideas for gifts that can be personalized, fun to make, and in many cases, made with recycled material, so it's easier on the environment. Give homemade pancake or brownie baking kits. Put dry ingredients in a pretty new or vintage canister with a recipe card included. For pancakes, you could include a batter bowl and wooden spoon. For brownies, you could throw in a square baking pan. Tie it all up with a ribbon. If you're famous for your cookies but can't bake as many as you'd like to, you can give your cookie dough. Wrap the dough in wax paper and ribbon. Play null Make your own herbal and spice oils. Buy a large container of olive oil to pour into various decorative food-safe bottles. Add herbs, such as rosemary, basil, garlic and chili peppers, then attach customized labels. Create an instant centerpiece for a hostess gift. Buy an inexpensive glass container, fill with a single color of ornaments, which you can buy in bulk at a wholesale club, and you have a decorative item that looks great and takes virtually no time at all to create. Instead of bringing the same old boring bottle of merlot, spice up your holiday wine by making a mulled wine infusion with pantry spices. Fill spices, like cinnamon, cloves and anise in a cheesecloth and attach to your wine with a handmade recipe card. Give the gift of song by making your own playlist. Burn a CD with your favorite music, and include the playlist on a card. It's a personal gift that lets you introduce friends to new music. Everyone loves candles, but you can make yours a little special. Repurpose small jars or buy inexpensive glass votives and decoupage with holiday wrapping paper. It's perfect for leftover wrapping paper scraps and looks lovely. Include four candles. For co-workers, buy simple notebooks and personalize them with monogrammed stickers, stencils or stamps. Buy a plain white mug or an initial mug ($6 from Anthropologie) and fill it with a bag of small peppermints with a beautiful ribbon and note card or a bag of hot cocoa mix and a peppermint stick. Body scrub is surprisingly easy to make at home. Start with sugar or salt in a bowl, add jojoba oil, almond oil or lavendar oil, which are available at many health food and grocery stores, like Whole Foods. Mix in other herbs like lavender sprigs or dried rosemary, and give the scrub along with a loofah sponge. See specific recipes below. LAVENDER SUGAR SCRUB 1/2 cup of jojoba oil 3/4 cup of white cane sugar 1 teaspoon Vitamin E 1/4 cup almond oil
