The menu features Hawaiian-themed eats from corporate executive chef Brian Redzikowski, while specialty cocktails are creations from beverage director Steven Tuttle. Cool things to know about this restaurant? There are three drinks on the menu that when ordered, trigger a number of special effects, including the sounds of thunder and lightning and flames shown swirling on a screen behind the bar. Additionally, there’s also a secret six-drink menu consisting of the cocktail team’s tributes to iconic beach drinks of the 1980s—throwbacks including Sex on the Beach and the Mudslide. Reservations are in high demand, so book early. If you’re going to try your luck with a walk-in, the best bet is to show up before 6:30 PM. This new pie concept has been honing its menu at pop-up events as it readies its first brick-and-mortar eatery. The gourmet pie shop will serve both savory and sweet varieties for breakfast, lunch and dinner along with beer and wine and an array of espresso drinks fueled by the city’s top roasters. Savory pies range from their classic chicken pot pie to a veggie curry pie. Some sweet pie favorites include pumpkin cream cheese and salted caramel chocolate fudge. Closed on Mondays. Calamari Steak Sandwich From El Pescador Fish Market Marcela's son, Fausto, is obsessed with the grilled octopus at this seafood market and cafe, but she usually goes for the calamari steak sandwich. It's a crusty roll piled high with charred calamari, lettuce and tomato. An old boyfriend introduced her to the insider spot. "I kept the restaurant but not the boyfriend, " she says. Tacos de Cachete de Res (Beef Cheek Tacos) From Romesco Baja Med Bistro When Marcela craves tacos she heads to this restaurant, just 5 minutes from her house, for the beef cheeks and a glass of wine from Mexico's Guadalupe Valley. The meat is braised and served with warm corn tortillas and a tart tomatillo salsa. "The ingredients are really fresh and local, " Marcela says. French Toast From Kono's Surf Club Cafe This oceanfront cafe makes French toast exactly the way Marcela likes it: with tons of butter and maple syrup. "It's cinnamony and super soft, " she says. For weekend brunches, Marcela adds a side of Kono's crisp home fries and chooses a seat on the restaurant's sunny deck, overlooking the beach and pier. 704 Garnet Ave., San Diego; 858-483-1669 Cheeseburgers and Animal-Style Fries From In-N-Out Burger After Marcela wraps up a season of her show, she rewards herself with two In-N-Out cheeseburgers. "I've been ordering the same thing since high school, " she says. "It's my prize." She also gets the semisecret, off-the-menu "animal-style" fries, topped with melted cheese, grilled onions and Thousand Island dressing.

I opted for the fish and chips during my last visit to Union Kitchen and Tap — Gaslamp and was certainly not disappointed. Taka Restaurant Known to have the best Japanese cuisine in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, Taka Restaurant is the place to go for delicious sushi. The space is limited, so remember to make a reservation beforehand, especially if you will be dining with a larger group. Toscana Café and Wine Bar You will be more than satisfied without even ordering at food at Toscana Café and Wine Bar. Order a pitcher of their mimosa and start your day on the right foot. No judgment if you are not sharing with anyone! It’s the perfect way to soak up the sunshine of a beautiful California morning. Chocolat Cremerie Of course, it’s only natural that I end with the dessert option! While I cannot speak for the food they serve, their gelato is to die for! I’ll admit, I have never had “bad” gelato, but it’s worth stopping by the Chocolat Cremerie for a satisfying treat if you are in the area. Be ready to try many samples, because it’s a tough decision to make with the many flavor options they offer you. If you’re looking to stay close to the action in the Gaslamp Quarter, check out the San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter Hotel. You’ll be within walking distance of most of the city’s best restaurants and a short trolley ride away from many others. By no means have I been able to even come close to trying out all of San Diego’s best restaurants, but these are some of the highlights from the ones I have tried. Do you have any recommendations to add to the list? Share them below in the comments!

 45.

WARNING: Stay away if you plan to order a california roll, please! Don't waste their time. We visited both of their locations. Our second night in Cali took us to Harney Sushi in Oceanside. While the names and some of the menu are the same, they have completely different vibes. We sat by the dj booth in this location and the place was definitely busy. If it wasn't a plane ride away, this would be our weekend hangout. The place had modern decor and unique round booths, equipped with a full sushi and cocktail bar. You'll impress the ladies to say the least. Hope, Tatter Todds!!!, Berry Nice (Jog First) So we escaped the cold of New York and got a real treat in California, not just plenty of sunshine and being able to run outside at night in shorts, no the real treat was Harney Sushi. Before I even get to the amazing food, let me just say that Harney Sushi is one of the best sushi establishments we have been to. You can tell they run a very efficient business, are ahead of the ball when it comes to a fusion menu and believe in true customer service - we witnessed them handling a slight problem in the most professional manner. That being said let me take you through our visit to their San Diego location. We walk into an adorable cozy, yet modern sushi restaurant with a bright giant fish tank dividing the place with a sushi bar on one side and a full alcoholic bar on the other. Tatter Todds, Vietname-so-Harney, Rollz Royce, Maui Waui If you're looking for the best sushi restaurants in the Downtown/San Diego area, look no further. We've traveled around San Diego quite a few times and know all of the great spots. Sushi to us is more than just fish wrapped in rice. Real sushi takes time to prepare and is an art. The quality of their fish, the service, the cleanliness of their restaurant and the entire package is what we look at. Sauces are important as well. We frown upon restaurants that rely on generic sauces. We aim to list the sushi restaurants in Downtown San Diego, California (CA) that take their business and their sushi sezriously, not just something extra to serve their customers. LOCATED NEAR: Downtown San Diego, Little Italy, Gaslamp Quarter, Marina District, Seaport Village, Porto Siena, East Village, Cortez Hill, Horton Plaza, Coronado, La Mesa, Rancho, National City, La Presa, Santee, Chula Vista, Spring Valley, Bostonia, Lemon Grove, Imperial Beach, Tijuana Mexico, Bonita, El Cajon, Lakeside, La Jolla, Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Fashion Valley, Mission Valley, Carlsbad, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, Poway, San Marcos, Solana Beach, Vista, Lakeside, Carlsbad, Solana Beach, Dana Point, Vista, Escondido, Murrieta, Encinitas, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, San Marcos, Temecula, Wildomar, Fallbrook, Poway, Laguina Niguel

Note that Eater Award nominees reflect the best of what was new and newsworthy in San Diego restaurants over the past 12 months and some of this year’s nominees opened in late 2015, after nominations for last year’s awards closed. Winners will be selected on both the local and national levels, and the voting begins right now. The polls are now closed for restaurant of the year, chef of the year, design of the year, and best neighborhood trailblazer. On our final day of the Eater Awards, we're voting on local hospitality group standouts in Restaurant Group of the Year. Vote now: Here's how the voting works: Eater editors have named nominees in San Diego for each of five major categories. Editors will pick winners from the nominees, and readers will vote to award one nominee in each category with a readers’ choice award . Ready to play your part? This poll will be open for 24 hours; voting irregularities will be strictly policed.

People can enjoy different festivals throughout the year, browse through art galleries and stop at cafes for espresso or gelato. There are also many sit-down restaurants available. Buon Appetito Buon Appetito is a very popular, well-reviewed Italian restaurant in the heart of Little Italy. It features traditional Italian courses, including antipasti with cheeses and cured meats, soups, salads, pasta, chicken, veal and beef. As is found in Italy, menu items are a la carte, so courses are sold separately. It also has an extensive wine list featuring highly-rated proseccos, Italian whites and reds, and wines from around the world. Most are only sold by the bottle, but there is a selection of wines by the glass. Decor is casual, and sidewalk seating is available. To add to the atmosphere, the restaurant features a different San Diego visual artist every two months. Buon Appetito 1609 India Street San Diego, CA 92101 (619) 238-9880 Mimmo's Italian Village At Mimmo's, the Tuscan-looking building and courtyard seating take you straight to Italy. It offers an extensive menu, from sandwiches and subs to gourmet pizza to fluffy gnocchi and pastas. Wine aficionados can hang out in Mimmo's wine bar, or even reserve a private table in the wine cellar for a special romantic occasion. But it's got the arguably best pizzas in town. It also has delicious home-style Italian foods, from torpedos to pastas and salads, all in a family-friendly atmosphere. Stop by the attached deli and pick up some cheeses for later. Filippi's Pizza Grotto 1747 India Street (between Date Street and Fir Street) San Diego, CA 92101 (619) 232-5094

Re: Shelter Island Restaurants Hi - My family recently stayed on Shelter Island at Humphrey's Half Moon Inn - very nice. We had a big family dinner at the Fiddler's Green which is an easy walk from Humphrey's. Food and service was excellent. It's upstairs with an elevator. Don't be put off by the décor. In my party, we had prime rib - excellent, salmon - wonderful, and I had the beef kabob - loved it. They have "early bird specials". Another place is the restaurant inside the Bay Club hotel which is right next door to Humphrey's. Beautiful view, food, and prices were good. I thought Humphrey's restaurant was a bit spendy. A must is the Point Loma Seafood market. They have a restaurant there, and the food is delicious especially if you like seafood. I had the scallops - excellent. It's like a fast food seafood place - paper plates, etc. When you see the crowds, you'll know it's good.

 81.

I don't care if you claim you don't like fish because you are not leaving the table until you take at least one bite of San Diego's freshest seafood. I mean it...1...2...3 OMG, I want more! From expensive to casual, raw to deep fried, San Diego's seafood scene is going to be hard to beat. We don't do frozen, we don't do fish sticks, in San Diego it's all about fresh. Yes, it's a chain but the location on the San Diego Bay next to Seaport Village and next to the giant Midway Aircraft Carrier is so classic San Diego that even the locals love it. Fresh fresh fish simply prepared, stick with the basics and avoid the fried and you will be very happy. Watch the sailboats and feel the cool breeze from the patio, one of the best spots to kick back with a seafood snack and a cocktail. Ultra casual and super popular with locals, Point Loma Seafoods is the type of place where you stand in line to order and then you'd better know what you want because there are a billion people behind you wishing you would hurry up so they can get their order in and start eating. The standouts here are the sandwiches and the crab sandwich doesn't get much simpler, or much better, basically crab on sourdough bread and oh so delicious. Dine on a picnic table or take it "to go" and walk 50 steps to the marina and you might have found your favorite seafood dining experience. Call me old fashioned but I love Anthony's Fish Grotto, a San Diego institution that's famous for their batter fried seafood. Their fish and chips (and shrimp) are golden brown and delicious with a batter that is surprisingly light and rarely greasy. The view of the bay doesn't hurt and the old school waitresses who look like they used to work at the Woolworth's counter ( what's Woolworth's? ) adds to the charm. Anthony's has lost their lease and will soon make way for yet another trendy hip and cool restaurant so eat here while you can and savor the memories. What an insane idea, to open a hip and trendy seafood restaurant in the middle of Little Italy, but man does it work. The entire front of the restaurant is open to the street and the seafood, from the oysters to the whole roasted fish, is fresh and delicious. It's also got a very cool vibe going on, young and trendy in a mid-century sort of way. Get the lobster roll!

San Diego is a great place for dogs to dine out with many great dining experiences for both you and your furry friend! Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed at the following restaurants and cafés. As policies allowing dogs may change, please call the restaurant to confirm they are still pet-friendly. Here are just a few of our favorites: Only take a well-trained dog that socializes well with people and other dogs. Always keep your dog leashed and at a safe distance from other diners. Bring your own food and portable water bowls in case the restaurant doesn't provide them. Keep your dog content by providing special treats and chew toys. 333 5th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101 (619) 795-9463 Inspired by San Diego's appreciation for craft beer and craving for fresh, creative cuisine, Union Kitchen & Tap is uniquely suited to provide guests with the best of both worlds.
