Earlier this year, Italy’s Destrage released their fifth full-length, The Chosen One, via Metal Blade Records. Destrage comments: “We brushed the dust away from a pile of live and life on the road footage, collaborated with an eccentric Scottish artist for 3D hysteria, threw in the mix a bunch of awkward yet carefully selected clips from the dark side of the internet, and digitally raped the whole thing in a live-video mix software. 
It’s fucking low-fi caviar to me!”
As with all of their previous efforts, Destrage make it impossible to pigeonhole their sound, with numerous labels applicable to the record but no single one able to tell the whole story. Moreover, from start to finish, The Chosen One seethes with an energy that is undeniable. “I strongly believe in the power of the people, and energy came from those who worked on this album, from the band, the producers, through to the mixing and mastering engineer. There was a lot of energy in the whole project, and that’s the most important thing to me,” vocalist Paolo Colavolpe enthuses. The record also sees the band once more experimenting, taking risks and exploring territory they have not previously entered into, demonstrating a fearlessness when it came to chasing ideas – and almost half the songs are in a completely different guitar tuning. A pair of unique tracks also bookend the record, the title track and “The Gifted One”, their relationship obvious as they came together in the writing stage. Explains guitarist Matteo Di Gioia: “The song ‘The Chosen One’ is brief, has no repetitions and an unresolved structure. The unexplored, unrepeated sections of that unwrap with more patience on ‘The Gifted One’, which also has an uncommon structure, but in the opposite sense. Here we have a long, pacing, reflexive closing song that shares many elements with the opener but feels completely different.” Further adding to the heady mix is the incorporation of extra instrumentation, among these a baritone saxophone and something the band nicknamed MEGATRON, which is essentially “a badass synthesizer playing guitar riffs together with the human guitarists. Like the saxophone, it’s set to disappear and fuse with the guitars to achieve a slightly unreal sound, and we knew we didn’t want these extra sounds to emerge and be obvious. Instead, we really looked for the listener to experience the ‘What the fuck is that sound?’ effect.”
A smattering of guest musicians also contributed to the album, with “master of evil” Luca Mai of ZU providing a wild saxophone solo on “Mr Bugman” and dubbing the main riff of “At The Cost Of Pleasure”. Jazz musician Fabio Visocchi added keyboards to “At The Cost Of Pleasure” and “The Gifted One”, while Fabrizio “Izio” Pagni produced the electronics and handled the programming. Produced by Matteo “ciube” tabacco and Destrage at Raptor studios, plus mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur, the recording process proved to be both rewarding and thrilling for the band, who were unable to physically be in LA with Wilbur, but were involved every step of the way. Admitting to being a little intimidated at the thought of working with such a “hot producer” initially, the collaboration was nothing but fruitful: the first mix great, the second better, but they persisted, with the eighth run making it onto the record to everyone’s satisfaction. “We were talking every day on the phone, sending messages back and forth and Josh said to us, ‘Hey! I don’t have a deadline. We mix this until it’s fucking great. My goal is having everybody jumping up and down to this record!’ And he kept his word.”

Destrage comments: “2019. Superstition tends to take over science, conspiracy over facts, ignorance over information and hatred over tolerance. 
To talk about one thing, migration is a hot theme today because hey, man is a migratory species. We have the natural tendency to move around. 
To those who disagree I ask why would they leave the very room where they were born, because I believe leaving a hospital, crossing the street and entering a park is just like leaving a state, crossing the border and entering another state. 
Everybody should be able to do that without getting a bullet in the back. 
In this film, five anti-heroes go on a crusade to stop the invasion, but there is redemption in the end.

You can try to put Destrage in a box but you will never succeed. Words such as “progressive”, “cinematic”, “mathcore”, “technical” and “groove-laden”, could be thrown at them, but really the only one you need is Destrage, for they are in a category of their own making. This has never been more true than on A Means To No End, the fourth full-length from the Milan, Italy-based 5-piece, which was released last October via Metal Blade Records. Riveting from start to finish, it leads the listener through an emotionally-charged labyrinth of complex yet catchy melody and muscle, following nobody’s rules, and it stands out as one of the truly unique releases of 2016.

Words such as “progressive”, “cinematic”, “mathcore”, “technical” and “groove-laden”, could be thrown at them, but really the only one you need is Destrage, for they are in a category of their own making. This has never been more true than on A Means To No End, the fourth full-length from the Milan, Italy-based 5-piece, which was released last October via Metal Blade Records. Riveting from start to finish, it leads the listener through an emotionally-charged labyrinth of complex yet catchy melody and muscle, following nobody’s rules, and it stands out as one of the truly unique releases of 2016.

Destrage comments: “‘Don’t Stare At The Edge’ faces the theme of fear, an emotion that paralyzes. Should we want more? Should we be cautious and stay with what we have? ‘Maybe I’m trying too hard to keep this much together, when the pile falls apart into pieces, I have no hands to grab them’ means that the expression ‘less is more’ may be true when it is about possessions, but wrong when it is about settling for undesirable, humble conditions like jobs – we refer to that as ‘just a means to an end…’
The fact is, ‘less is a bore’. That’s why we think that jumping down the cliff, hand in hand with fear, is a good thing. ‘Don’t stare at the edge, take a good look down’, even though heroes tell you to not look down when they come and they think they are saving you.”

Destrage recorded A Means To No End at RecLab Studios in Milan, reuniting with their longtime collaborator Larsen Premoli, and his assistant Alex D’Errico. While tracking, at the suggestion of drummer Federico Paulovich, they brought percussionist Alessandro “Pacho” Rossi into the fold. Having entered into the writing process with no plans beyond simply wanting to write good music, the finished product – which is mixed by Steve Evetts and mastered by Alan Douches – is somewhat revelatory, and will certainly grab the attention of anyone exposed to it. Known for their powerful live shows, these tracks are sure to sound incredible when blasted from titanic speakers as the band take them to the masses.

Destrage recorded A Means To No End at RecLab Studios in Milan, reuniting with their longtime collaborator Larsen Premoli, and his assistant Alex D’Errico. While tracking, at the suggestion of drummer Federico Paulovich, they brought percussionist Alessandro “Pacho” Rossi into the fold. Having entered into the writing process with no plans beyond simply wanting to write good music, the finished product – which is mixed by Steve Evetts and mastered by Alan Douches – is somewhat revelatory, and will certainly grab the attention of anyone exposed to it. Known for their powerful live shows, these tracks are sure to sound incredible when blasted from titanic speakers as the band take them to the masses.

Begin work on new album
Milan, Italy’s Destrage have just returned home from a successful performance at the Euroblast Festival in Koln, Germany (photos on facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Destrage/photos/a.10150313589120104.518505.111342640103/10156067862295104/?type=3" target="_blank">HERE</a>) and are excited to get to work on their follow up to Are You Kidding Me? No., which was released in March of 2014. Additionally, Cort Guitars have designed a brand new axe for the band, which is detailed in a new video by guitarist Matteo Di Gioia on youtube.com/destrage <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqi8KXD_9Ok" target="_blank">HERE</a>.
Di Gioia comments: 
“I designed this DJIEAZ! thing together with Andrea Brusadelli from Backline. I’m so happy Cort made this piece for me, it’s a blend of every small thing I like in different models, but instead of being over accessorized, it is a very simplified guitar, essential, reliable, lightweight and resistant to rough treatment on the road. All I need. And hey, it looks like socks!“
Destrage spent the summer performing summer festivals and shows across Europe, but are ready to jump back into writing and recording mode. Di Gioia continues: “These summer tours were simply amazing. We traveled to beautiful places and met so many fun people! We both headlined on solo shows and played mid-bill positions on big festivals, both of which were a blast. You get to learn a lot from both experiences and you are constantly challenged, which is great. It can feel very lonely to get back home, but it also feels right. We can finally focus on writing, with no interruptions, and maybe get fit and healthy, or why not, fix the studio door, and water the dead plants!“

Mixing and mastering was done by Will Putney at The Machine Shop in New Jersey. The cover illustration was done by Marco Tafuri and the layout was completed by The Jack Stupid. Italy’s Destrage have launched a brand new drum video for “My Green Neighbour,” as performed by their exceptionally dexterous drummer, Federico Paulovich. It should be noted that what fans are seeing here is a fresh studio recording, not a video simply synched to album audio! This is how it’s played, and how it actually sounded when the video was recorded! The video was recorded at RecLab studios, and audio was mixed by Adam “Nolly” Getgood from Periphery.
Paulovich offers his thoughts on the video: “It’s been a while since we’ve been talking about making a drum video of a song from “Are You Kidding Me? No.”. The choice of the song came up pretty easily, since “My Green Neighbour” seems to be one of the most interesting from a drummer’s perspective, as well as one of the most entertaining for non-drummers in general. The idea was to make a fun “sequel” of the previous drum video we did in 2012 for the song “Double Yeah”, so we just put together that concept with the zombie theme, to better fit with the mood of the song. We had tons of fun shooting this video, plus it’s always a great pleasure for me to work in a such high-level studio environment, with great pros such as Larsen and, last but not least, our friend Nolly from Periphery, who did an incredible job mixing this track! I can’t wait for the video to come out and hope you enjoy it!“

Behind the scenes from European and Japanese tours!
Destrage have launched a brand new tour documentary series on youtube! The band had cameras rolling during their European tour with Protest the Hero last fall and during their headlining Japanese tour in February. The endlessly entertaining antics of the band serves as the perfect subjects for such a documentary, and fans would agree that these clips will be as amusing as they are insights into how bands keep themselves sane while wrestling with the struggle of being a tour metal band.
Guitarist Matteo Di Gioia comments: “After the past documentaries we received offers from filmakers to travel with us and produce nicely crafted material, but we chose to go DIY once again, avoiding fancy camera movements and long set ups. The result is a honest, dirty, homemade mashup of footage that really shows the way our days passed by. There was no need to plan anything, everything was there, we just clicked Rec and had fun.“

Bloodstock performance announced
Milan, Italy’s Destrage recently put together an acoustic arrangement for “Where the Things Have No Colour” from “Are You Kidding Me? No.“, the band’s latest album released in 2014 on Metal Blade. The band captured the acoustic performance on video, complete with a string section! Destrage fans who watched their <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-eq1PqtNZk" target="_blank">studio documentary</a> will be familiar with Larsen Premoli’s work, and this time around, he was responsible for the string trio arrangement for this song. The video was recorded at RecLab studios and can be seen now exclusively at <a href="http://metalhammer.teamrock.com/news/2015-01-20/destrage-release-unseen-acoustic-video" target="_blank">metalhammer.com</a>!
Destrage vocalist Paolo Colavolpe discusses the video and song: “Where The Things Have No Colour has a very personal meaning to us. This song talks about certain moments, it’s hard to explain them but if you felt like this once in your life you will find the lyrics extremely familiar. We talked a lot about the possibility of making an acoustic version of one of our songs, and this felt like being the perfect occasion. Our biggest thanks goes to Larsen Premoli who arranged the strings trio and made this version possible. This video is dedicated to all the people and friends involved in our project, who always support us during tours, recording sessions, video making, bullshits and everything that concerns the band universe. You know who you are. We hope you’re going to enjoy this version, even if it sounds a bit different from our standards. We wish you all an amazing 2015!“

Milan, Italy – November 7th, 2014 – Destrage will begin their European tour with Protest the Hero, The Faceless, and The Contortionist in one week in Leipzig, Germany. As Destrage fans are aware, the band is infamous for creating <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6V55yUBij0&list=UU9tXuhfq1Fqb4WhnsEJwuGA" target="_blank">entertaining tour videos</a>, and this tour will be no exception! The band has teamed up with Bode Music Gear (<a href="http://www.bodesrl.it" target="_blank">http://www.bodesrl.it</a>) to produce new tour video episodes for the Bode Music Gear youtube channel, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/bodesrl" target="_blank">youtube.com/bodesrl</a>. What will make these videos exciting? Challenges. Destrage will be putting band members to the test in completely pointless and trivial challenges: who can fit the most of something in their mouth, pushups, jumping over cars, who can do the most shots, who can break the most guitar strings, etc. What the band will end up with after a few weeks on tour, we can merely venture to guess, but given the bands irreverent and absurd track record, it’s a guaranteed good time!
Destrage have partnered with Sheet Happens Publishing to release a new guitar transcription book! “Are You Kidding Me? No. The complete guitar transcription” is scheduled to be released this month while Destrage is on tour. Tour with Protest the Hero begins in November!
Italy’s Destrage have released an 8-bit version of “My Green Neighbour” from their most recent album, “Are You Kidding Me? No.“, on their YouTube channel! Fans can hear the retro-sounding masterpiece now <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DfhUl644ZI" target="_blank">HERE</a>. The video was made by Destrage guitarist and resident video wizard, Matteo Di Gioia.
As previously announced, Destrage will be joining Protest the Hero, The Faceless, and The Contortionist on tour throughout continental Europe this fall! The tour begins on November 11th in Germany and wraps up on December 13th in France. This tour will follow the band’s summer of European festival appearances, including UK Tech Fest.

Thousands of fans across nine Italian cities came to see Destrage perform songs from their new album “Are You Kidding Me? Milan, Italy – July 14, 2014 – Italy’s Destrage are happy to announce that they will be joining Protest the Hero, The Faceless, and The Contortionist on tour throughout continental Europe this fall! The tour begins on November 11th in Germany and wraps up on December 13th in France. This tour will follow the band’s summer of European festival appearances, including UK Tech Fest, which the band performed at just yesterday evening. Still to come are a variety of Italian festivals, including Watchtower Festival with Napalm Death, Church of Misery, Shores of Null, and more! Destrage was formed in 2005 in Milan, Italy and has released two full-length albums, Urban Being in 2009, and The King is Fat’N'Old in 2010. Their animated live shows have taken them on tour all over Europe, as well as Japan. Destrage opened for Every Time I Die and Parkway Drive in Milan in June of 2013, and headlined a variety of Italian festivals including: Machete Fest, Rock In Riot, MAV Festival, and more. Touring plans for 2014 are currently in the works and will be unveiled once confirmed.

Destrage have confirmed their first tour of 2014! The band will be touring throughout their home country, beginning on March 29th. This tour will follow up the band’s massively successful hometown show in Milan. The venue was sold out, with several hundred more fans outside of the venue! Destrage posted an update about that show with images on their facebook page <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153863544295104&set=a.10150313589120104.518505.111342640103&type=1&stream_ref=10" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Vocalist Paolo Colavolpe comments: “What’s better than hitting some of the best venues of our country to start our AYKMN tour 2014? This is gonna be some serious fun! See you on the road people, ciao belli!”

No., Milan, Italy natives DESTRAGE have teamed up with Metal Insider for an exclusive premiere of the album’s third single. The concept for the video was written by The TJS Collective and produced by Sara Bertagnolli and Gianluca Pagani. Milan, Italy natives, DESTRAGE are premiering their video for “Purania”, the second single taken from Are You Kidding Me? No, today via <a href="http://fearnet.com/">FEARnet.com</a>. <a href="http://fearnet.com/">FEARnet.com</a> is the web portal for cable television’s premier channel for fans of horror, thriller, and suspense entertainment. The concept for the video was written by The TJS Collective and produced by Sara Bertagnolli and Gianluca Pagani. DESTRAGE elaborates on the video’s concept and animation: 
“We did the shooting on a freezing Sunday, in January 2013. Cold keeps people awake and reactive, but we didn’t know it before that day! Anyway, a pretty large team of people was involved in the process of making this video. The Jack Stupid Collective came up with the concept together with the band, wrote the screenplay, set the style and organized the production. There was quite a lot of stuff to do. Location managing, set design (that place was a total blank warehouse). Casting, illustration, actor and extras managing and a lot of logistic shit. We also hired a D.O.P. and two camera operators, an electrician and everyone we needed on the set. When everything was shot, The Jack Stupid collective worked on it very hard for a few months in post production.
“It was a pretty exhausting process, especially the animation of every single drawing, but we’re satisfied about the final result. We would like to thank everyone who was involved; you are too many to be mentioned, but you know who you are!
“The story is set in an imaginary city, Purania, where personal choice has been banned, and people are controlled by a central brain unleashing an army called Select & Defend, divided in small squads of Blamers and Erasers. An underground secret movement, which the government calls “The Incoherents” is planning a revolt.”

Destrage recorded “Are You Kidding Me? No.” at RecLab Studios with Larsen Premoli and at Adrenaline Studio with Daniele Nelli. Mixing and mastering was done by Will Putney at The Machine Shop in New Jersey. The cover illustration was done by Marco Tafuri and the layout was completed by The Jack Stupid.
Destrage was formed in 2005 in Milan, Italy and has released two full length albums, “Urban Being” in 2009, and “The King is Fat’N'Old” in 2010. Their animated live shows have taken them on tour all over Europe, as well as Japan. Destrage opened for Every Time I Die and Parkway Drive in Milan in June of 2013, and headlined a variety of Italian festivals including: Machete Fest, Rock In Riot, MAV Festival, and more. Touring plans for 2014 are currently in the works and will be unveiled once confirmed.

Destrage’s new album, “Are You Kidding Me? No.” is complete and being prepared for release in March 2014. “Are You Kidding Me? Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the signing of Italian metal act, Destrage. The band formed in 2005 and has released two full length albums, “Urban Being” in 2009, and “The King is Fat’N'Old” in 2010. Their animated live shows have taken them on tour all over Europe, and even over to Japan. Destrage opened for Every Time I Die and Parkway Drive this summer, and headlined a variety of Italian festivals including: Machete Fest, Rock In Riot, MAV Festival, and more.
Destrage’s new album, “Are You Kidding Me? No.” is complete and being prepared for release in early 2014. Destrage comments on joining the Metal Blade roster: “It’s quite difficult for us to describe in few words our feelings about this moment. We just signed with one of the most important and historical metal label in the world, being welcomed as members of a big family, this is simply amazing! We’ve listened to Metal Blade artists since we were just fresh-faced kids and now we’re stoked to be part of such a great roster. We are really excited for the upcoming release and we can’t wait to bring this work on stage and tour around as much as we can. See ya all very soon!”
