There can be few better ways to mark the 20th anniversary of your band than releasing the finest record of your career. In RAM‘s instance, this comes in the form of The Throne Within, the Swedish quintet upping their game across the board to deliver a record with deep roots in classic heavy metal but wielding an energy and freshness to it that places it very much in the now. “It is unmistakable RAM, there are fast songs, heavy songs, mid-tempo and slower tempos as well. There’s melody and there’s grit. The arrangements are recognizable but some may be unorthodox,” states founding guitarist Harry Granroth.
“This is a monumental album for us, and I am certain for our fans. We have worked very hard to bring our sound, songwriting and playing to the next level without leaving our Black Path of Heavy Metal Tyranny,” says vocalist Oscar Carlquist.

Regarding the first single, “Gulag”, RAM adds: “‘Gulag’ has a definite old-school European Heavy Metal vibe to it. The song shines a light on the hypocrisy of collectivism, and takes a stand for the one who lives and thinks for one self, not for ideology or dogmas of the masses. As one can see in the lyric video for the song most members of RAM were raised during the golden age of home computers!”

Swedish heavy metal defenders (of the faith), RAM, will drop the molten fruits of their Svbversvm full-length upon the masses this Friday via Metal Blade Records. Brimming with fist-pumping hymns of death, post-apocalyptic dominance and total devastation through iron, RAM‘s fourth studio offering was self-produced at Black Path Studios, mixed at Welfare Sounds by Olle Bjork, Per Stalberg, and RAM and mastered by Daniel Johansson. As a special precursor to its release this week, today Noisey hurls forth Svbversvm in its anthemic entirety noting: “Each track on the nearly hour-long album is a master class in traditional heavy metal (dosed with just a snort of vintage speed) that promises to bang the head that does not bang, from ‘The Usurper’ (which liberates that combination of words from their Celtic Frost-forged chains to deliver a fist-pumping revenge anthem) to the sky-scraping falsetto vocals and wailing NWOBHM licks on the title track.”

In an advance 8/10 review of the record, Dead Rhetoric gushes, “Rare is the day where one hears an opening mid-tempo riff and marching sequence for ‘Holy Death’ that captivates in the same way as the iconic ‘Balls To The Wall’ did for Accept listeners in 1984, but RAM succeed in embedding another series of hooks and riffs through this arrangement stage ready for simultaneous axe swings or hip flexing. Comments RAM: “Why a split with PORTRAIT? Well after long nights drinking beers and raising hell with several members of PORTRAIT through the years it has become quite obvious where both bands stand when it comes to the question of what real metal is. When we started the band we could count our true supporters on the fingers of two hands because nobody was playing or listening to traditional heavy metal at the time. But Christian of PORTRAIT was one of the first people to ever get a RAM demo in his hands and we knew that he understood what we were about. Over the years both bands have progressed but that die hard attitude regarding heavy metal has never changed this split is a testament to that.“
Comments PORTRAIT: “For us it feels great to do a split EP with RAM as they have been around since before we started out and they have inspired us since the very beginning. They are one of very few contemporary bands that we feel connected to in any way, and we share the same view on what Heavy Metal is and what it can become. The material on this EP shows in a good way the vastness of this most elevated genre, from Kiss to Exciter and to our own original material – it should be evident to the listener that the roots of Heavy metal are still expanding, within and through our bands.“
RAM about their three songs: 
“‘Savage Machine’ is a hardhitting song that we feel is very fitting for the split. It is straightforward hard heavy metal. It is also the first RAM song to feature our new guitarist Martin Jonsson and his brilliant guitar work.“
“Then ‘Welcome To My Funeral’ is the first song on the first PORTRAIT demo, I remember getting this tape from the band and playing it loud. We chose this song because it is a great song that we felt that we could add some heaviness to. The lyrics inspired me to add some quires here and there. It all ended up sounding really old school and dark.“
“We had a long talk within the band about what cover to choose for this split. We decided that it should be a band that all the members had a special relationship to. KISS was the band that got me, Harry, Martin and Morgan into metal back in the late seventies/ early eightiees. We wanted to do one of their harder songs so we went with ‘Creatures Of The Night’, a masterpiece!“
PORTRAIT about their three songs: 
“Martial Lead is a classic Portrait style metal monster with screaming guitars, pumping bass, high pitch vocals and roaring drums. It was written about one month after our latest album ‘Crossroads’ was released. It should disappoint no real headbanger and the lyrics deal with the art of bringing madness and terror upon one’s enemies“
“We chose ‘Blessed to be cursed’ because it has always been one of our favorite RAM songs and we could also easily rearrange it a bit in order to create our very own version of it. I am satisfied with the result and especially the hypnotic feeling of the verses.“
“Exciter… the Rambo IV of the Heavy Metal World. We have always loved them and they sure understand the primal energy of Heavy Metal and how to utilize it. We chose ‘Aggressor’ because it is a perfect song of terror, fitting the concept of this split release splendidly. Also by chosing a song from the 90′s we want to show our appreciation for Exciter’s neverending struggle and their stance of opposition against all rules of right or wrong, no matter what the latest fashion is!“

10th anniversary show in Gothenburg announced!
Swedish heavy metal act RAM have just recently shot a video for the song “I Am The End” from their latest release, “Death.” Metal Blade Records has partnered with Revolver Magazine to premiere the video in North America. “I Am The End” was directed by Martin Högdal, edited by Leonard Palmestål and written by Oscar Carlquist – the same team that worked on the “Flame Of The Tyrants” video. The song was written by Harry Granroth and Oscar Carlquist.
Oscar Carlquist comments on the video: “The ‘I Am The End’ video shows a completely different side of the cinematic vision of RAM than what we created in the ‘Flame Of The Tyrants’ video. This video displays a lot of esoteric aspects, and has many layers of symbolism that will not be seen at once. We thank everybody involved for their outstanding dedication to making flesh out of our disturbed visions.”

In other news Daniel Johansson – guitarist and one of the founding members – has decided to leave the band. The departure was amicable and a replacement for Daniel has already been found. RAM are very happy and proud to welcome former RAM session guitarist Martin Jonsson as a fulltime member.
2013 marks the 10 year anniversary since RAM released their first release: the Sudden Impact EP. This will be celebrated on Friday, the 13th of September. A concert has been booked in Gothenburg at the venue Sticky Fingers (Top Floor). The show will also feature special guests PORTRAIT and TRIAL. RAM‘s performance will be filmed.
The Sudden Impact EP will be rereleased on vinyl only and in a strictly limited edition of 500 copies through Gothenburg based label Lake Of Fire productions. The EP will be released at the 10th anniversary concert.
