Is the procedure dangerous? How do the teeth-whitening systems work? What causes teeth colouring? Do teeth- whitening procedures change the colour of artificial tooth restorations (veneers, fillings, crowns, composite restorations)? Find the answers to these questions here.

Is it dangerous to whiten your teeth professionally?

Whitening of the teeth has turned to one of the most popular aesthetical dental manipulations. Snow White smiles have set to something very admirable by the people around you. It also shows that you have a healthy lifestyle and a high social status.
Whether teeth whitening is safe, you can find out more in this article.

How do the teeth-whitening systems work?

There are many different teeth-whitening systems- professional whitening at the dental clinic, which is performed by the dentist and home teeth-whitening system with special braces made in a laboratory, after taking samples of the patients’ teeth. The pair have a special whitening gel which performs the whitening of the teeth.
To achieve the whitening effect of the teeth, we use a whitening agent (urea peroxide). It reacts with water, and it creates hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide penetrates the enamel, and it whitens the dark blemishes of the dentine.

What causes the teeth to color?

The colouring of the teeth depends on many factors- from genetic influence to the frequent use of foods and drinks which are stable in colour (coffee, coke, dark teas, beets, turmeric, red wine etc.), additionally, from overusing tobacco products. In some cases, the colouring of teeth can be caused by medical treatment.

Are professional teeth whitening procedures dangerous?

Teeth whitening procedures at the dental clinic are performed with chemicals (bleaching agents), and lamps which are FDA approved (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), which guarantees the safety of the patient during and after the procedure. This, however, does not apply to a large portion of the whitening products, which can be bought freely from the commercial market.
For the procedure to be performed safely, the whitening of the teeth needs to be performed by a qualified dentist, who will create an individual treatment plan and will decide whether the teeth are suitable for such a procedure.
Home teeth-whitening procedures, which are prescribed by your dentist, are also safe for your health, just as much as the ones performed in the dental cabinet.
We recommend you, not to try any teeth-whitening methods, which are not recommended by your dentist (for example teeth-whitening with lemon, baking soda, charcoal, etc.)
Whitening of the teeth can have a contrary effect to people who have multiple caries; diseases connected to the underdevelopment of tooth tissues (stains, defects and other non-carious lesions of the tooth); diseases of the gum; decreased oral hygiene of the oral cavity; pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Do teeth-whitening procedures change the colour of any artificial tooth restorations (veneers, crowns, fillings, composite restorations)?

No. Artificial tooth restorations do not succumb to whitening. We recommend you have the teeth whitening procedures done and then the artificial repairs can be made in the ending colour result, as the natural teeth (after the whitening).

 99.
The orthopantomography scan for treatment with pulpitis and periodontitis or why is it necessary to make an orthopantomography, after the filling of tooth canals?

What is a dental X-ray scan?

Dental X-ray scan is a type of X-ray which examines the tooth and the bone around it, which helps the doctor grasp a full comprehensive idea regarding the whole clinical scan.
The most common use of dental x-ray scans is for Orthopantomography OPG (Panoramic x-ray picture) and Segment x-ray (segment radiography).
The information, which the doctor receives during a similar examination is definitely very important:
The orthopantomography is used for very complex diagnostics, which shows the status of all the teeth and all the pathological changes in the bone. The segmental x-ray gives much better information regarding the full status of the teeth and the bone, which surround them. They are mostly used when the patient has a specific complaint, connected to a specific tooth or with the control of an already completed procedure.

What is endodontic treatment and what is the protocol for its successful course?

The endodontic treatment (root treatment) is a procedure, aiming to eliminate the infection from or around the root canals. The treatment can end in one or a couple of visits, depending on the severity of the individual case.

First step:

It is extremely important to determine the length of the root canals, for the treatment to be successful. In most cases, this happens through an apex locator or segmental radiography. After the tooth is numbed, we place a dental dam, which isolates the tooth and protects it from saliva, during the whole process.

Second step:

Through an appropriate cavity, this provides access to the root canal which allows the root of the tooth to be used as an instrument (manual or mechanic) for removing the pulp and the root contents. After this, the roots are processed and given an appropriate shape.

Third step:

After the forming and cleaning, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material, most-commonly gutta parka and sealer.

Fourth step:

Before moving onto the restoration of the tooth with a crown or with obturation (filling), to provide the protection and restoration of its functions, it is recommended to make a control segment x-ray scan. This will give clear information to the dental doctor regarding whether the nerves have been fully removed and whether all the canals are filled.
The x-ray scan takes only one minute, the price is very small in comparison, to the information it provides.
In our practice very often, we encounter patients who have been treated for pulpits, who have not had any control x-ray scan pictures, and after filling the canals, it was necessary to treat the same tooth again because of that reason.
The absence of control x-ray scans very often leads to unnecessary consequences, which leads to spending more time with the dentist and spending more money on fillings (obturation).

Re-treatment of dead teeth requires the removal of any existing fillings (obturations), removal of the root stuffing and the renewal with new stuffing, this is to be respected throughout the whole protocol.
Re-treatment poses multiple risks and its success rate is under question. It is important to follow the protocol of treatment for pulpit which is confirmed with a control x-ray scan.
When the nerve has not to be removed completely, and the tooth is filled, this unremoved part necrotizes and can lead to gangrene and very often granuloma to pass into a cyst.
Very often all these diagnostics flow asymptomatically. Because of this reason, the patient finds out later about the problem and quite often this leads to the extraction of already ‘treated’ teeth, while all of this could have been avoided by taking a control orthopantomography scan.

In this article, we will inform you of different possible aesthetic dental problems and the solutions that will fix them.

1.Broken tooth-

An extremely uncomfortable situation, however, it can happen to anyone. Imagine biting something a bit harder than usual, and all the sudden, a piece of your tooth is chipped. Do not be worried; this is fixable.
What can you do in such a situation?

• Bonding-

The procedure of ‘bonding’ restores the broken/chipped part of the tooth, in most cases, this is the cutting edge of the front tooth, crack, stain, change in the form, lengthening of the clinical crown or respectively the whole tooth length.
Bonding is usually the preferred manipulation, due to its conservatism and the micro invasions involved. The main and leading factor is that in most cases there is no need for any filing from the healthy tooth tissue, except for any carious mass.

• Veneers-

Porcelain veneers are extremely thin (only 0,3mm), and they are used for changing the form/shape, colour, size and the symmetry of the teeth and smile. The smile is achieved with an aesthetic result. After the minimal filing of the tooth, the veneers are cemented onto the front surface of the tooth. The porcelain is a commonly preferred material, due to it being the most aesthetical replicate of the human enamel.

•Dental Crowns-

The tooth crown recreates the natural dental autonomy, enveloping the whole visible part of the tooth while restoring the form, size, strength, and external appearance. The tooth crown can be made of different materials: metal, ceramics, zirconium, ceramic crown with aesthetic ceramic IPS e.Max, zirconium crowns with aesthetic ceramic IPS e.Max.

2.Slight rotations of the teeth-

The slight distortions can successfully be impacted by the placing of the veneers, which can restore the aesthetic in the dentition. Additionally, orthodontic treatment can be performed; however, this requires a longer time for it to be completed correctly.

3.Distance between teeth (diastema)-

The distance between the teeth is a very common problem, the best solution for this is orthodontic treatment, but as we mentioned, this requires a more extended period. This is when the patient can take advantage of placing veneers on top of the teeth, or an even more accessible method is performing a bonding procedure, as mentioned earlier in the article.

4.Coloured teeth-

Teeth whitening procedures come in handy in such situations. If you want to shine with a fresh white smile, it is necessary for the patient to receive professional teeth whitening. With some patients, this is necessary due to the changing of their natural colour, this can happen because of the frequent use of tobacco products, colouring foods, and drinks etc. More about teeth whitening procedures you can find out here.

5.Tooth Caries-

Tooth caries is the most common tooth disease in our society. This destroys the hard tooth tissues due to frequent acid attacks; this leads to the extraction of calcium ions from the enamel and subsequently decomposes the crystal structure. For the restoration of the form and strength of the tooth, the most common way for filling in the caries lesions, we use composting materials, this is because they give an extremely aesthetic and natural look. Their benefits include- the dentist can precisely choose the most suitable colour, which will match the natural tooth colour.

6.Tartar-

Tooth tartar is mineralized tooth plaque. The extracorporeal tooth tartar builds up in the area around the opening of the salivary glands, also the lingual (of the tongue) surfaces of the lower front teeth, on the external (buccal) surfaces of the upper 1st and 2nd molar, the most distant surface and the last molars. The rough surfaces are an ideal place for containing microbes, and its porous structure makes it a holder for bacterial toxins and antigens. It is a constant source of inflammation and gingivitis, which is why it is advisable for it to be cleaned twice per year, and not only from an aesthetic point of view but also from a health and prophylactic perspective.

7.Squeaking of the teeth-

Quite often people do not notice that they grind their teeth during their sleep; however, the dental specialist can quite easily notice this fact, this is shown by the crown on the tooth which becomes very worn out. If you have a similar problem, it is good to get consulted by your dentist; this will allow him to decide the best method for restoring the aesthetic of the tooth. After that, construction of silicone brace will be made; this will prevent future discomfort.

8.Missing tooth-

There are clinical cases in which a specific tooth cannot be saved, and an extraction is necessary. However, there is a solution- dental implants. Through dental implant, we can replace one or more roots of the missing tooth, and after that we put a prosthetic with crowns, leading to a restored masticatory function and good aesthetic.

 178.
What is the secret to a Hollywood smile?

Have you ever wondered how all celebrities have bright white smiles with perfectly arranged teeth, just like a pearl necklace? This is not a coincidence at all, and it is certainly not just a good gene. So, what is the secret to a Hollywood smile?

The answer is one very short word – veneers. Of course, they can only be a good alternative for people whose natural teeth are healthy.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin plates (scales) that, through a special material, are glued to the front surface of the teeth. They are placed only in the frontal area (front teeth), and in the distal areas (chewing teeth) dentists recommend dental crowns, as they are stronger and more durable.

When can veneers be a good solution to improve the look of a smile?

Veneers are applicable in the following cases:

– Distance between the teeth (diastema, tremors)
– Teeth with “short” clinical crowns
– Rotated (incorrectly arranged) teeth
– Teeth with cracks or fractures
– Teeth with abnormalities in the shape and size of the dental crown
– Discolored or darkened teeth

What types of dental veneers exist?

There are 2 main types of veneers:

Ceramic (porcelain) veneers: Ceramic veneers are a thin layer of porcelain (can be made by different technologies), which is fixed on the front surface of the teeth.
They can be applied from a purely aesthetic point of view, to improve the appearance of the tooth (the tooth is functional and healthy, but here the leading factor is the aesthetic factor). This is done after careful consideration of the benefits, given the cost and what part of a healthy tooth should be polished or applied to a non-preparation technique that does not remove any part of the tooth.

Composite veneers:

Composite veneers are made of photopolymer composite materials and are extremely affordable, but they do not serve the patient as long as porcelain veneers would. They are a common alternative to single restorations.

What are the main advantages of veneers and what type to choose?

One of the main advantages of veneers is that it is a minimally invasive technique that allows the patient to achieve a bright and harmonious smile in a short time.

Advantages of porcelain veneers:

– Durability.
– Strength.
– Exceptional aesthetics.
– They do not stain easily.
– It is necessary to remove much less healthy enamel than in crowns, for example.

Advantages of composite veneers:

– It is usually necessary to remove less tooth enamel than with crowns or porcelain veneers.
– Sometimes fewer visits to the dentist’s office are needed to place them than with porcelain veneers.
– They cost less than porcelain veneers.

When is it not appropriate to place veneers on you?

– Teeth and gums must be in excellent health

Before proceeding with veneers, your personal dentist will perform a thorough examination to determine if there are any problems in your oral cavity.

– Veneers are not a good choice for patients who clench or gnash their teeth

As we have already said, veneers look like thin scales and if you suffer from bruxism, there is a chance that you will damage or break them. In a milder form of this problem, patients can wear a silicone splint during sleep to protect the veneers.
Whether veneers are the best choice for you to have the dream smile or our specialists will recommend you another alternative such as crowns or dental implants, you can learn by contacting us through our contact form here.

 218.
What are the consequences of untreated caries?

What it can lead to by one not taking a modern decision and why caries from something completely harmless can become a dangerous problem? The answers to these questions, you can find in the next article.

What is caries and what are they caused by?

Caries is one of the most common dental diseases. Statistics show that 95% of the population suffers from frequent acid attacks. This extracts calcium ions from the enamel and subsequently decomposes its crystalline structure. If the loss of mineral is bigger than the remineralization, the hard tissues of the tooth can crumble irreversibly, and a carious lesion can form.

What are the symptoms in the presence of caries and why NOT to postpone a visit to your dental doctor?

Symptomatology in the presence of caries is diverse and depends directly on the stage of its course.
Imperative- the change in color of the enamel and the transparency of the tooth.
Consequent- pain from irritants such as sweet, cold, warm, bad breath and bleeding gums

How to prevent tooth decay?

The most important role in preventing tooth decay is making sure you have regular check-ups at your local dentist. It is necessary to visit your dentist twice a year for control check-ups and for cleaning the built-up tartar and plaque. The tooth plaque most frequently is located where there is harder access when washing the teeth with a toothbrush. If the tooth surface is not cleaned frequently, the built-up of microorganism and bacteria in the mouth is inevitable.
The frequent consummation of sweet foods and drinks is also extremely bad for your teeth. The microorganism processes the sugars to acids, which break down the mineral tissues of the teeth.
Due to this, the acid level increases in the oral cavity, which usually is around 7 pH.

Why you should treat caries on time and what complications this can lead to?

If the caries is not treated on time and the problem is neglected, this may lead to pulpit, periodontitis, absence of the bone and other.
Pulpits is the inflammatory disease of the tooth, which will either cause great pain or none at all. If we do not pay attention on time, the pulpit can progress into periodontitis, which in most cases leads to the extraction of the tooth.
Periodontitis is a treatable condition, but the percentage of lost teeth due to periodontitis is greater.

In the presence of granulomas and cysts, this can lead to surgical involvement, medical conditions such as absence and phlegmon, sometimes require hospital admission.
Treatment of tooth caries, in most cases, takes up to 1 hour and is completed in one visit. Pulpit and periodontitis require two or three visits, sometimes up to 5-6 visits. After one tooth has had root canal treatment (infected pulp is removed), its survival in the oral cavity is reduced if it is compared to a healthy tooth. This means that in a given phase the tooth will be extracted, in its place, there will be a bridge or a dental implant.
Is it worth the wait? 259.
What causes this fear?

Studies from 2018 show that more than 60% of the population suffers from a dental phobia (fear of the dentist).

What causes this and how can we deal with it? Read in the following article.
Recently more often we meet patients, who are extremely fearful from the dental chair and the only question they ask us is ‘‘Can I fall asleep and feel absolutely nothing during the manipulation?’’ The truth is, medicine has improved to such an extent, that a lot of impossible things have turned to possible, this includes treatment under sedation (a medical conditional, in which the patients is at complete peace, nearly asleep). Is it worth running from the fear, instead of facing it?
Lets first find out, what are the most common factors for causing this fear:

-Traumatizing experience in the past

This is the most common cause, that patients have shared. In most cases, the unpleasant memory is brought about by harsh and careless attitude provided by the dentist. Another example is forced dentistry while the patients where children or an extremely painful procedure, which they have experienced during their lifetime.

-Traumatic experience a close friend of the patient has experienced

Very often the storytelling of the experience can be much more traumatizing than the actual experience itself, especially when the story is told by a person that the patients have undoubtedly trust towards.

How to overcome fear of the dentist?

– One of the most important steps is to realize the problem and to remember where the problem has occurred from. If for example, it has occurred after a painful procedure from the past, you can research and find out the type of technology used by the clinic you have chosen to visit. After you are confident in how advanced medicine has become and how many new methods have been discovered, your anxiety will significantly decrease. If in the past you have experienced rude attitude, you can ask a friend regarding good and responsive specialist, where you will feel in secure hands.
– Have a personal dentist, as you have a personal doctor. You should choose carefully and visit them often for prophylactic examinations, as well as when you have a specific problem. If necessary, your personal dentist will recommend other specialists in whom they have confidence. As time passes, besides as a specialist you will get to know your personal dentist as a person and character, this will definitely lower your anxiety which you normally feel when you go to the dentist.
– You should be completely informed about all the dental manipulations. Often the fear of the unknown is a leading factor, but if you knew what was behind closed doors you should not be afraid to open it, right?
– You should be a team with the dentist. You should think of a signal to show him when you begin to feel pain or fear, this way the dentist will take the needed measures to calm you down. You should not be embarrassed because you experience fear and anxiety, we are human after all, not a machine.
-Ask a close friend or family member, who you trust, to accompany you in the dental cabinet, and during the manipulation, you can take your lucky charm/ talisman.
– Music, music and again music. You can ask you, dentist, to play your favourite tracks, which you have fond memories with, they will flow back into your consciousness and will block the anxiety from overtaking you.
– You should go 15 minutes earlier in the cabinet, to adapt to the environment. This will help you feel maximally comfortable even before the procedure begins.
If you feel fear during the procedure you should remember that nothing in this world is permanent, including the procedure. It has a beginning and an end.
It is important to realize, that the longer you delay the visit to the dentist, the harder it will be to deal with the consequences of that. And what can happen due to untimely treatment, you can find out here.
We recommend that you follow the best decision, that being having prophylactic check-ups.
Prophylactic check-ups do not have anything scary or painful to them, they help prevent future discomfort and pain.

Although in dentistry the focus is more closely concentrated on the head and the neck, of couse the rest of the body is extremly important for all the organs to ‘work’ in interacting and influencing eachother. Why it is important to report to your treating doctor everything related to your general health before you start dental treatment? Read in this new article.

 298.
Why is it important not to spare any information from your dentist when taking a medical history?

Our observations point to the conclusion that people are more likely to look at the oral cavity as a separate part of the body.

When visiting a new dentist you will be asked to fill a formula with a question, in which you will have to fill out your medical history up to current date, including medicaments which you take and also you will need to fill out harmful habits that you may have (an example could be smoking of tobacco products, intake of alcohol and other harmful substances to the organism). We recommend that you answer every question with precision and not downplaying even the smallest detail because this information is extremely important for the successful and safe course of your future dental manipulations.

A big part of the medicine which you take or have taken in the past can impact your oral health and the future dental treatment, which is why we advise for full detail and honest when communicating with your dentist.

Many medicaments can cause dryness in the mouth as a side effect. The dryness in the mouth is more than a discomfort. It can lead to more serious dental problems like caries or disease of the gums. Additionally, dryness in the mouth predisposes to the formation of wounds and ulcers.

Other medicine may eff bone density and wound healing or heavy bleeding during manipulation (if the patient is taking vasodilators), which can be very dangerous for patients who have a forthcoming operation. Based on your current health condition, the dentist can appoint a consultation with another specialist, for them to be sure what therapy you may be prescribed in the future.

If you share with your dentist the medicine that you intake, it will be easier to establish the exact cause for the current problems you may have in the oral cavity.

– Your medicaments directly influence our medicaments.

Nearly every dental treatment requires constant anaesthesia, in order for the patient to feel maximum comfort during the procedure. And how do we chose the type of anaesthesia? Depending on the full health condition of the patient. The products in the anaesthesia injection may impact the medication that you are taking. Which is why you should not spare us any information, even small details, in order to lower the risk of any complications.

Sometimes it is necessary to prescribe medicine therapy, after the completion of the treatment. The medicine which we prescribe can directly impact the medicine you are currently taking if you do not inform us about it. For example, antibiotics can change the effect of contraceptive pills, and other medications can impact antibiotics duty.

It is mandatory that the treating doctor must know the name of the medicine/s, which you voluntarily intake for them to be sure that you will not suffer from any negative side effects or consequences.

Do not forget, that your health is first and foremost in your hands, and if you allow us we will take care of your health in the best possible way! Our mission if to help!

 337.
Why it is necessary to have a personal dentist and what are the criteria’s, which will help you chose the best one?

Every responsible person has a good GP, who will keep track of your health status and assist if any health problems occur along the way. Do you have the same attitude towards your oral health and is it important to have a personal dentist? Read in this article.

The choice of a personal dentist is very important, as choosing a personal doctor.
Through regular preventative examinations, which are done twice a year, your personal dentist will monitor for changes in the oral cavity, and this will give them the opportunity to react in a timely manner, correcting any problems in an early stage. In this way, besides deteriorating health and increased pain and with the problem growing, your personal doctor can save you a lot of money, to treat advanced diseases.

How should we choose the best personal dentist?

– Experience

Study the dentist that you are planning on trusting. Find out about his experience, what post-graduate qualifications they have and which spheres of dental medicine they are growing in, and whether they are a specialist in any of these spheres.

– Materials and equipment

An extremely important criterion. Every good doctor will not compromise with any of these three criteria’s, due to them being 50% of the successful treatment, and the remaining 50% are the skills of the specialist, which is why you should carefully ask anything which may be helpful to you.

– Innovations

To choose a good dentist is important, but it is even more important to research whether they are a developing dentist. We live in the 21st century and everything is improving constantly. It is desirable for them to be interested in applying innovations to their dental practice.

– A team of specialists

A good dentist can be spotted by the team that is surrounding them. Overall, no dentist who respects themselves will allow a team of unsuitable specialist to work for their clinic.

– Hygiene

Hygiene is one of the criteria’s, with which you should not compromise, as this is concerning your wellbeing. And we are not only talking about the cleanness of the cabinets or the clinic but the sterilization of the instruments and the hygiene, that is met as a standard by the specialists.

– Attitude and trust

If you do not have the feeling of trust towards your potential dentist, then you should not choose him. Trust is the key to good treatment, and it arises directly from the attitude of the dentist towards you. You must feel confident with your personal dentist, this way you can share with them anything you feel is relevant to your case.

– Medical history

The good dentist will take a good medical history, which means asking you about your entire medical history so far. Since the human body is a whole system that is interdependent. Why is this so important, you can find out here.

– Location

Carefully choose the location of the cabinet or the dental clinic, to have your dentist available to you when you need him, in order to avoid cancelling important prophylactic checkups, just because it takes you too long to get to the cabinet.
In conclusion, we will say be careful not to compromise your health and trust the best specialist in the long run. The frequent change in a personal dentist is also not a good option. You should like and trust everything in their practice, including the price that needs to be fully affordable for your budget.
Over time, your personal doctor will learn exceptional details regarding your dental health, and about the reactions, your body may have after manipulations. Only in this way you can have 100% trust in your dentist because you deserve the best!

 376.
How it is possible to ‘sleep’ and wake up with a completely new smile?

Daily we meet with patients, who share with us their deep fear of the dental chair and how many years pass until they decide to visit us. And the only reason for them to come to us, most certainly has nothing to do with overcoming their fear, but the fact that the situation has become unbearable and they do not have another option. Is it necessary though for the situation to reach such an unpleasant level, or sometimes even painful experience, before you take care of yourself or is there another option, in which you will feel at complete peace during the treatment? Read in the new article!

A few weeks ago, in one of our articles we gave valuable advice for the ones of you who feel worry and anxiety before going to the dentist. If you follow the recommendations despite the fear freezing up your mind, let us reassure you, there is a solution for you- sedation.

What is sedation and by which specialist is it performed?

There are two types of sedations, inhalation and intravenous.
In Dental Clinic NuriDent we perform only intravenous sedation, due to doses being much more precise, which minimizes the risk from dysfunctional of respiratory and cardiovascular system. Sedation is an anesthesia procedure in which sedative drugs are induced into the patient’s bloodstream by a specialist anesthesiologist, as we have in Dental Clinic NuriDent.

During the sedation, the patient is in complete peace bordering with sleep. After this type of anesthesia, the patient does not have any recollection of the procedure, and the recovery is quick. By itself sedation does not anesthetize the patient, which is why a combination of anesthesia’s are used with the local anesthesia. During the so called ‘medical sleep’ the patient retains all the vital reflexes and functions of the body. The patient can respond to the request of the attending dentist under the guidance of a specialist anesthesiologist and can easily be introduced into this condition and just as easily they can get out of it. The sedation is safe and without any risks, only if it is performed by experienced and qualified specialist!

How should I prepare myself before the sedation?

You are only required to follow the instructions given to you by our specialists, who will explain everything related to sedation on the spot. Before the planning of your appointed manipulation, a specialized anesthesiologist and cardiologist will take a detailed history of your general health, and from there they will decide whether they need any additional research. Our team of dental and humane doctors will be with you during the whole manipulations and will track absolutely everything connected to your health condition.
Sedation does not disturb your normal rhythm of life, but in the day of the procedure it is recommended that you take a break and limit yourself from driving and operating heavy machinery. We also recommend that you increase your liquid intake after the manipulation.

Are there any contradictions to the use of sedation?

Just like any procedure, sedation also has its contradictions. Sedation is not suitable for patients with epilepsy, children under four years of age, pregnant women, patients with craniocerebral trauma, or patients with allergies towards any of the drugs used in this type of procedure.

 415.
Everything about dental implants

A dental implant placement procedure is performed by inserting the implant into the jawbone, with the goal of successfully replacing the missing natural root. A dental crown is then placed on the head of the dental implant (called an abutment), which completely restores normal masticatory function.

Dental implants are the best option for patients with single or multiple missing natural teeth, as well as for complete edentulousness of both jaws.

Dental implants

The dental implant acts as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth, and in turn this “artificial tooth root” serves to retain a crown or bridge structure. Most dental implants are made of titanium, which allows them to integrate into the bone without being recognized as a foreign object in our body. The success rate of dental implants is nearly 98%.
In general, dental implants can be divided into 2 types – two-part (classic) and one-part (basal and compression). The main differences between them can be found here https://nurident.com/post/classic-and-basal-implants/

Where are dental implants placed?

No special hospital conditions are required to perform the dental implant procedure, so it can be performed in a dental office.

Before the manipulation of dental implants

Before starting the dental implant placement procedure, your personal implantologist will order X-rays as a panoramic image, and in some cases a 3D scanner or other more detailed images showing important information for planning future manipulations. If you suffer from chronic diseases, it is possible that the dental implantologist will refer you to other specialists to confirm that you are suitable for implant treatment.
During the final consultation, the implantologist will explain to you which implant system is most suitable in your specific case.

Food and drinks

It is recommended that you eat well (with light food) before performing the procedure of placing dental implants under local anesthesia. If the operation is performed under sedation (medical sleep), we advise you to not eat any food in the evening before the procedure to make sure that your stomach is empty.
Immediately after the manipulation, your doctor will recommend a light diet with softer foods within a few days, and from 4 to 6 months after treatment you will need to follow a diet.
More information can be found here .

Medications

* After the manipulation you will be prescribed cold compresses, antibiotics and painkillers.
* In specific clinical cases, the patient needs to take medication before the procedure.
* If you are taking medication, it is mandatory to inform your doctor, who will give the necessary instructions before and after the procedure.

Dental implant treatment

The manipulation begins with the placement of the selected type of anesthesia, and then proceeds to the extraction of the tooth / teeth, if such are listed in the treatment plan. The placement of the dental implants is performed, and the procedure proceeds differently, depending on the selected type of dental implants.
More information about the whole process of placing basal implants can be found here and for classic implant here .

Recovery

The postoperative period for treatment with dental implants lasts about a week and is relatively mild, due to the prescribed medications that minimize the discomfort you may experience. It takes a different amount of time for different types of implant systems to completely restore tissue. Most often this period lasts from 3 to 12 months, depending on the degree of integration of the dental implant.
You can learn what our patients say here

Expectations after dental implants

After completing the treatment with dental implants, the patient fully regains his normal masticatory function. The result is as aesthetic as possible and the crowns look like natural teeth.
Within a few months after the procedure, you will need to follow a diet recommended by your doctor.

Care after placement of dental implants

After the procedure for placing dental implants, the care you need to follow is the same as for natural teeth – daily hygiene of the oral cavity and teeth with a toothpaste and a toothbrush.
