74.
Synopsis

75.

76. Anthropology is a science in transition. It is a particularly
77. multifaceted discipline because it embraces a wide spectrum of most
78. different topics, which in their broadest sense all deal with human
79. biology. Particularly in the recent decades, major domains in
80. anthropology such as human genetics, human ethology, aspects of
81. auxology, forensic anthropology, palaeoanthropology, aspects of human
82. evolution, and others have become independent scientific
83. disciplines. The trend towards diversification has not yet come to an
84. end, and it underscores the importance of communicative platforms for
85. the dialogue between disciplines.
86.

87.

88. The 9th International congress of the German Anthropological Society,
89. at Gottorf Castle, September 12 to 16, 2011, offered such a
90. communicative platform, reflecting the diversity of Anthropology. The
91. congress provided an international platform for scientists to meet,
92. and to discuss recent progress in understanding the various aspects of
93. human evolution, palaeoanthropology, human ethology, human genetics,
94. auxology and forensic anthropology.
95.

96.
97.

98. This special issue includes eight original papers and 85 abstracts of
99. the congress which closely reflect the susceptibility of humans to
100. environmental diversity and underlines its impact on growth and
101. development, all of these being vivid facets of modern anthropology.
