Renovations to the Johnston Street building have recently been completed by Arts Victoria and though access is still limited, we managed to visit the Caretaker's residence using the new elevator that has been installed next to the refurbished staircase. In February 2020, I was informed by a member of Contemporary Arts Precincts of plans to convert the Caretaker's residence into a rooftop bar to be titled 'The Caretaker's Residence'. Due to COVID, plans were delayed but on our visit, we met the owners who were friendly and interested in the history of the building. We would like to thank them for allowing us to take some photos of the building prior to continuation of renovation work.

The Caretaker's Residence forms part of a new complex called 'Collingwood Yards' which features several shops and artist studios which sell products including records and books, to the public. I have been told that the name was derived from 'TechYards', which is a reference to material in the Collingwood Technical School archives, and was specifically included in an interview with the former Caretaker, Bert Eastman, in the Melbourne Times on his retirement (this article can be read on our 'Bert Eastman & Family' page under Memories of Past Staff and Students).

As of January 2021, renovations are also underway of the shops adjacent to the Johnston Street building.
