4.

 5.
6.
7.
8. Laab Gai is Thai for chicken salad.
9. So yes, with my never-ending love & appreciation for thai food, I have more recipes to add to my list. I have to be honest, this recipe here is something I thought of on a whim. Unlike some of my other recipes, this I actually came up with when I was shopping for ingredients in the super mart.
10.
11. So yes, for once, this is something that isn't modified from an existing recipe. Although because this is superbly simple (like making a sandwich), I'm pretty sure there are a lot more similar recipes out there. This however, worked for me because it tasted perfect on the first try. ;)
12.
13.
14.
15. INGREDIENTS
16. 1 chicken breast, diced into bite-sized cubes
17. 1 red onion, chopped
18. 3 large oyster mushrooms, chopped (discard the stems)
19. 7-10 kaffir lime leaves, scored or torn
20. 1 2/2 tbsp tom yum paste (see 3rd photo)
21. 1 red bird's eye chilli, sliced into small pieces
22. 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
23. 1 bowl salad greens (baby romaine, lettuce, whatever you like)
24. 1 lemon wedge (as salad dressing)
25. fish sauce, to taste
26.
27.
28.

 29.

 30.

 31.

 32.

 33. I'm lovin' these beautiful oyster mushrooms.

 34.
35.

 36.

 37.
38.
39. First of all, it's always crucial to prepare the ingredients before you begin. This is a recipe that requires the ingredients to be added one after another so there'll be no time for onion chopping in between (unless you have lightning hands). Again, I will apologize for not having any step-by-step photos, it's pretty simple though.
40.
41.
42.

 43.

 44.

 45.

 46.

 47. This was the Thai tom yum paste I used. You can get it from any local supermart.

 48.
49.
50.
51. STEPS
52. - Add the olive oil onto the skillet and keep it at medium heat.
53. - Add in the onions and let it cook until it's fragrant (about 1 minute).
54. - Now add the oyster mushrooms and stir.
55. - Add the diced chicken bits and stir. Throw in some fish sauce. Stir.
56. - When the chicken starts to cook (turn slightly white), add in the tom yum paste and stir until each piece is evenly coated.
57. - Add in your chillies together with the kaffir lime leaves and stir to mix.
58. - When your chicken is nearly done, add in more fish sauce to taste and stir.
59. - Now that your chicken is all done, serve onto a pile of salad greens and squeeze the lemon wedge all over for a zingy taste. Mix and it's ready to eat.
60.
61.
62.

 63.

 64.

 65.

 66.

 67. I would advice against using any chillies at all if you're not the type who can take really spicy food. I was nearly in tears when I had this for lunch.

 68.
69.
70.
71. You can pair this dish with rice as well if you like. Also, I think that adding some bell peppers and tomatoes would have been really nice. If you find this yummy, you can also try my recipes for a sensational thai tom yum soup or the basil chicken.
72.
73. Nothing beats a great home cooked meal that doesn't take an hour to prep! ;)
76. You hear this term being thrown around a lot.
77. Metabolism, metabolism metabolism.
78. But what exactly is it?
79.
80.
81.

 82.

 83.
84.
85. Think of yourself as a car. Your metabolism is your top speed.
86. Just like cars, a lot of factors go into why certain cars are able to go at certain speeds - that includes the body kit (physical fitness), petrol type (the food you consume) and also the handling (your fitness level).
87.
88. So, suffice to say that anyone can go from a wheezing truck to a Ferrari. How? Read on.
89.
90.
91.
92. DON'T DIET
93. The first rule of thumb is that: It’s about eating more, not less — more nutrition-dense food, to crowd out the empty calories and keep you full all day. It’s important, because restricting your body from food will kill your metabolism. Your body will be thinking, “I’m starving here!” And it responds by SLOWING your metabolic rate in order to hold on to existing energy stores. If the food shortage (aka your crash diet) continues, you’ll begin burning muscle tissue, which just gives your enemy, visceral fat, a greater advantage. Your metabolism drops even more, and fat goes on to claim even more territory. You don't want to go from tight to flabby, do you? So eat more, especially protein based food! I will be listing down some great metabolic-revving food you can eat a lot of at the end of the post. Also, read up on what DIET really is.
94.
95.
96.
97.

 98.

 99.
100.
101. GO FOR ORGANIC (WHEN YOU CAN)
102. Okay, first of all, I'm a person who believe that 'organic food' is a marketing strategy to boost up profits for a super mart. However, based on research, it is found that pesticides found in your local produce make it harder to lose pounds. Other research hints that pesticides can trigger weight gain. Of course, it’s not always easy to find—or to afford—a whole bunch of organic produce. So you need to know when organic counts, and when it’s not that important. Organic onions, avocados, grapefruit? Not necessary. But choose organic when buying celery, peaches, strawberries, bell peppers, or collard greens; they tend to have the highest levels of pesticides. A simple rule of thumb: If you can eat the skin, go organic. However, I would like to stress that this shouldn't be a very huge concern. Organic or not, food is food.
103.
104.
105.
106. DRINK COLD WATER
107. German researchers found that drinking 6 cups of cold water a day can raise resting metabolism by about 50 calories daily—enough to shed five pounds in a year. This theory is based on your body's need to keep itself warm and the work it takes to heat the water to body temperature uses energy. Though the extra calories you burn drinking a single glass don’t amount to much, making it a habit can add up to pounds lost with essentially zero additional effort. So, drink up!
108.
109.
110.
111.

 112.

 113.
114.
115. FIRE IN YOUR BELLY
116. I love love love spicy food, and that's what I mean by fire (not real fire unless you're a licensed fire-eater). Capsaicin, the compound that gives chili peppers their mouth-searing quality, can also fire up your metabolism. Eating about one tablespoon of chopped red or green chilies boosts your body’s production of heat. The result: a temporary metabolism spike of about 23 percent. It is also true that eating spicy food gives you a feeling of fullness & satiety, so you'll be eating much less. So, order in something spicy or, you can always try some of my favorite, easy-to-make spicy dishes - the basil chicken and the Thai tom yum soup. Certified belly busters & tongue-searers.
117.
118.
119. EAT YOUR BREAKFAST
120. Eating breakfast jump-starts metabolism and keeps energy high all day. It’s no accident that those who skip this meal are 4.5 times more likely to be obese. And the heartier your first meal is, the better. That way, you won't feel that nasty urge to overeat during lunch and dinner. Keep munching on some light, healthy snacks throughout the day as well to keep your stomach away from feeling hungry.
121.
122.
123.
124. And there you have it, some pretty easy to follow guidelines for some good ol' metabolism boost. As promised, I also have a few metabolism boosting food that you can incorporate into your daily intake.
125.
126.
127.
128.

 129.

 142.
143.
144. So really, is getting healthy really that impossible? It's the first step to a healthier, fitter YOU. Always remember, from truck to Ferrari. 149.

 150.
151.
152.
153. First of all, I have to say I can certainly take no credit for the amazing recipe (or the artwork that accompanies it). This was something I pulled off a fitblr, source unknown so thank you, whoever you are. This is so easy to make, you don't even need an ice-cream maker (though I would've traded my right arm off for one of those). Also, the step-by-step photos are courtesy of TheKitchn because I forgot my camera.
154.
155. Apparently, bananas make the best rich & silky soft-serve ice-cream ever. No milk or sugar needed. Just a couple of frozen bananas. And a blender.
156.
157. Honestly, I half expected the banana to turn out flaky, icky and crumbly but instead, it came out nice & smooth. This is like kitchen magic!
158.
159.
160.

 161.

 162.

 163.

 164.

 165.

 166.

 167.

 168.

 169. I swear, easiest thing to do, ever!

 170.

 171. Step-by-step with real photos this time.

 172.

 173.

 174.

 175.

 176.

 177.

 178.

 179.

 180.

 181. Two bananas should make about 1-2 servings.

 182.

 183.

 184.
185.

 186.

 187.

 188.

 189.

 190. Chop em' up into pieces. Then freeze them for 2 hours in the freezer.

 191.

 192.

 193.
194.

 195.

 196.

 197.

 198.

 199. Once they're nice & frozen, throw them into the blender & blend away.

 200.

 201.

 202.
203.

 204.

 205.

 206.

 207.

 208. Watch the magic happens when bananas turns into ice-cream. This is also the time for you to throw in some extra ingredients like peanut butter or chocolate chips. I personally prefer honey or maple syrup.

 209.

 210.

 211.

 212.

 213.
214.

 215.

 216.

 217.

 218.

 219. Scoop it out, and serve!

 220.

 221.

 222.

 223.

 224.

 225. It's so ridiculously easy. You can also store the leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer. But as these are fresh bananas without any preservatives, please consume within one week.

 226.

 227.

 228.

 229. Enjoy!

 230.

 232.

 233.

 234.
235.
236.
237. It's that time of the year. Chinese new year is right around the corner.
238. And where I come from, we go all out when it comes to food. It's pretty similar to Christmas - except that we get money in red packets instead of gifts. But the amount of food, it's just as delicious and just as bad for the waistline. One day we're all sexy in that form-fitting dress, the next, we're just bulging at the seams.
239.
240. Over 20 years of massive indulgence when it comes to CNY, I had some sense knocked into me this time around and with that, I've come up with a guide to help myself and YOU enjoy the festivities & the food, without incurring too much weight gain.
241.
242.
243. STAY HYDRATED
244. For some reason, without fail, the sun will be relentlessly HOT at the average 32 degree weather - drying us all out. So, when you're on your visiting rounds, keep a small bottle of water to keep you constantly hydrated. Say no to the sugar-loaded packet drinks your hosts serve, instead, ask for iced water. Trust me, you don't need the additional sugar from the drinks to make you feel even more flustered and hot. Make water your best friend this festive season (and for eternity). Also, don't forget your moisturizer & sunblock for your skin!
245.
246.
247.
248. THE 3-COOKIE RULE
249. CNY cookies. The biggest culprit ever. You visit 4 houses a day and suddenly you go home with an additional 1000 calories. No joke. Our delicious store-bought (or even homemade) cookies are loaded with butter & sugar - the two things that cause us to start blimping up. I'm not saying don't enjoy yourself, you can, by adhering to the 3-cookie rule. For each type of cookie you try, you can only have a maximum of THREE. Then move on or stop. It's hard to resist, I know but c'mon, there's always an abundance of cookies everywhere you go. Have more another day. If that's still too hard, just drink lots of water in between so that you'll feel too full to consume more.
250.
251.
252.
253.

 254.

 255.
256.
257. WATCH THE BUBBLY
258. It's the time where alcoholic drinks are free flowing from hour to house. Have a glass or two but stop at number two. Sip your beverages slowly and avoid downing them in one shot. Alcohol contains empty calories and empty calories are just plain, unnecessary calories you can do without. Even if you do go overboard, tone it down the next day. Just be mindful of your intake.
259.
260.
261.
262. SALT WATCHERS
263. Chinese food is delicious - also because it contains a load of salt. Everything served requires salt and too much salt could cause you to bloat. Family reunion dinners can't be helped, you can't avoid the 9-course meals but, you can avoid too much salt intake. The trick is to ensure your liquid is double the intake of salt. Try to avoid drinking wine or champagne while at dinner, it will only make you thirstier. Instead, have some chinese tea or water and drink a glass (or two) for each course. Of course, you might be needing those loo visits pretty often, but course-dinners always allow some intervals between course.
264.
265.
266.
267.

 268.

 269.
270.
271. NEVER GO TO A PARTY HUNGRY
272. Because chances are, when you're as hungry as a wolf, you enter a party and everything in sight is sheep to you. You'll eat everything and anything until you feel like you're about to burst. Always have something light and fiber-rich before a party. That way, you only eat what you like without going overboard.
273.
274.
275.
276. PORTION CONTROL
277. With any party, any dinner - watch your portions. My trick here is to use a smaller plate. When you use a smaller plate, you will feel just as full & satisfied but you're actually eating much less compared to using a regular-sized plate. When you head for your second & third helpings, that time interval gives your mind enough time to register that you're actually full so despite thinking that your plate is 'small' and that it's 'too little', it's actually just enough. Bigger plates will eventually lead to having too much - that's when you feel bloated from being too full. So, think small.
278.
279.
280.
281. Just 6 simple rules to make your festive holidays a good one without making you feel bad after it's all over. Party safe, eat right, have fun and once it's all over - back to the gym & hit it hard.
282.
283.
284.
285.
286.

"balsamic, thyme & lemon salmon"
287. Aside from tuna, salmon is the one other fish which I really, really love. I love it so much I literally beg my mom to make me some sort of grilled salmon every week. I can eat it in any manner - raw (sashimi), grilled, steamed, poached - anything goes.
288.
289. So, from my recent ventures into cooking, I decided to cook my own salmon for the very first time. I've also bought thyme for the kitchen (it's not very commonly used in local households where I come from) and I was dying to experiment with this much-loved herb.
290.
291.
292.

 293.

 294.
295. As fresh thyme only keeps for about 2 weeks in the fridge, I decided to purchase a bottle of dried thyme which can last up to one year. Please note that you will also be needing a sealable bag for marinating purposes.
296.
297.
298. INGREDIENTS
299. 2 tsp dried thyme (Masterfoods) OR 2 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
300. 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
301. 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
302. 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
303. 1 tbsp minced garlic
304. 1 salmon fillet
305. salt & black pepper (to season)
306.
307.
308. In a bowl, add the first five ingredients (thyme, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and minced garlic) and stir until it's evenly mixed. Pour the ingredients into a sealable plastic bag. Next, you add the salmon fillet into the bag and toss it around to coat evenly.
309.
310.

 311.

 312.

 313.

 314.

 315. Give your salmon a nice tossing to ensure marinade is coated evenly.

 316.
317.
318. Seal the bag, make sure you get as much of the air out as possible. Let the salmon marinate for about 20-30 minutes but not any longer than that because the acid will start to cook the fish & affect its texture.
319.
320. 20-30 minutes later...
321.
322.
323.

 324.

 325.
326.
327. Preheat your oven to 218°C (or 425°F). Remove the salmon from the bag and place it on a aluminum foil-lined oven tray. Season both sides of the salmon with salt & black pepper.
328.
329. Put the fish into the oven and bake at 218°C (or 425°F) for 7-12 minutes or until just cooked through. You'd need to estimate the time based on your oven. Plus, salmon is better raw than overcooked so be sure to let it cook but still preserve its juices.
330.
331.
332.

 333.

 334.
335.
336. And this would be the delicious end result. Best served hot. ;)
337. Don't worry too much about the blackened areas, it's not overcooked, that's just the balsamic vinegar.
338.
339.
340. I was a little adventurous so I decided to make a small serving of fried rice to go with the salmon. Yes, it's my first time making fried rice (though it's actually really easy) but I'm making a healthier version using brown rice instead of white. I'm gonna even teach you how to cook rice without using a rice cooker.
341.
342. SPICY BROWN FRIED RICE
343. INGREDIENTS
344. half-cup brown rice
345. 2 eggs
346. 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
347. black pepper
348. white pepper
349. chilli flakes
350. light soy sauce
351. salt
352.
353. Note: Fried rice is best cooked using overnight or leftover rice.
354.
355.
356.

 357.

 358.

 359.

 360.

 361. I used Somaly's organic brown rice.

 362.
363.
364. To cook the rice, I will be using a steamer. Any pot would also do but you'll need space for water to boil at the bottom. Fill the steamer's bottom half with water. Add the rice into a bowl with about 3-quarter cup of drinking water. Leave it to steam for 30 minutes.
365.
366.
367.

 368.

 369.
370. Your rice, if cooked properly will turn out nice and fluffy like mine.
371.
372.
373. Now, for the fried rice. (I'm sorry there are no step-by step photos for this, my hands were too oily)
374. - Add the olive oil to a frying pan at medium heat.
375. - Crack both the eggs and swirl it around the pan until it's half cooked.
376. - Add the rice and mix it in with the eggs. Stir it around until it's evenly mixed.
377. - Add in some light soy sauce (not too much, just a dash) and also the salt to taste.
378. - Lastly, when rice is nearly done, season with black pepper, white pepper and chill flakes.
379. - Mix it all together one last time and it's ready to serve.
380.
381.
382.
383.

 384.

 385.
386. And voilà! You have a ready meal. I made this for my work lunch and added in a bunch of rocket lettuce. I'm also deathly afraid of choking on fish bones (had one lodged in my throat for two days once) so I had carefully deboned my salmon.
387.
388. I have recently started the "bring your own lunch to work" trend and it's definitely beneficial in so many ways. So, I thought I'd show you how I portioned all my food especially when rice is involved.
389.
390.
391.
392.

 393.

 394.
395.

 396.

 397.
398.
399. Keepin' it healthy with a side of fresh lettuce.
400. Enjoy!
402. So, who in the world doesn't know what a Moleskine is, right?
403. Especially if you're one of the creative breeds working in relation to arts or writing, you will know that Moleskines are the crème de la crème of the creative industry's 'must-have' accessories.
404.
405. I personally find it a little overrated.
406.
407. After all, there are still a lot of other quality notebook brands out there with the same quality for half the price. I personally love PaperBlanks. However, I had the best possible chance encounter with an unheard of brand recently, which lead to the end of my search for my 2012 journal.
408.
409. It was purely by accident that a colleague of mine told me to utilize this journal for the time being until I find my perfect journal. Little did I know I was already holding it in my hands. It was a Leuchtturm1917. A German brand that was renowned for their coin & stamp business since the pre-war ages, it's only natural that they now branch into making fine-creafted journals.
410.
411. So, what makes this journal so perfect?
412. Aside from the fact that it's a £65 leather-bound journal that I got for free, it also has many great additions that a Moleskine does not have.
413.
414.
415.

 416. PAPER QUALITY
417. On par with the Moleskine, but slightly thinner.
418.
419. NUMBERED PAGES
420. Yes, the blank pages are numbered unlike Moleskines which has to be done manually. This is great for when you need to reference and refer back to your notes.
421.
422. CONTENTS PAGE
423. Because the pages are numbered, you can list down everything in an orderly fashion in the first 3 pages specially made for contents. Also something which the Moleskine does not have.
424.
425. RULE & GRAPH GUIDE
426. An included sheet of guide, one side with ruled lines and another with a graph - to aid writing or even drawing on the blank pages. Very, very useful.
427.
428. BACK POCKET
429. To store cards, post-its, etc. The Moleskine has this too.
430.
431. 8 PERFORATED PAGES
432. Easy-to-tear pages at the back just in case you need to share any notes. How thoughtful, right?
433.

 434.
435.
436. So yeah, those are a few useful things which I love about this Leuchtturm journal.
437. However, mine had a gold foil engraving (Leuchtturm engraves custom orders) of the Antoine Martin brand logo, and I'm always particular about how my journal looks like. So, decided to have a little DIY fun with this.
438.
439. I brought out my acrylics and started creating my very own notebook cover. I wanted to have my name written on my notebook, but I don't want just any simple, marker-scrawled typography. So I decided to go with a nautical theme.
440.
441. I have included a step-by-step here just so you can do something similar if you want to stand out like I do.
442.
443.
444.
445.

 446.

 447.
448. To created a nautical-esque theme, I decided to go with a striped background. To create those perfect stripes, I utilized cellophane tape.
449.
450.
451.

 452.

 453.
454. Then, using acrylic paint, color the first layer of paint over the uncovered areas. Let the acrylic dry (about 3 minutes) and paint a second coat to completely cover the logo. If there's nothing to cover on yours, then just ensure that the second coating is rich and even.
455.
456.
457.

 458.

 459.
460. Leave it to dry for about 5 minutes (or use a hairdryer for faster results) then carefully peel off the cello tape one buy one. You have to really sure that the paint is completely dry before doing so. Then, cover the red striped with cellophane tape. You're gonna start painting the other stripe color now.
461.
462.
463.

 464.

 465.
466. Like before, paint over the uncovered areas, at least two coats (three if you're using light colors like white) and always make sure that your paint is completely dry before peeling the tape off.
467.
468.

 469.

 470.
471. And there you have it, a pretty nautical striped book. If this isn't good enough for you, then you can always add something else on to make it more personal. For me, I decided to add a ship, this being a nautical themed cover.
472.
473.
474.

 475.

 476.
477. The first step is to draw a rough sketch on a piece of paper. Then, carefully, use a blade to cut the first area that you want to paint. Remember, the paper only acts as a painting guide. The paint will bleed through if you do not do it properly. I decided to go with the body & the masts first.
478.
479.
480.

 481.

 482.
483. Then, I followed up with the sails and the bird's nest at the top. Once you're done with painting the entire ship, start adding in the shadows and shades to the sails and body. You would not want a flat looking ship so add those extra details. One important detail for me was to inscribe my name at the side of the ship. That way, if I ever lose this book, no one could ever claim it as theirs unless their name is also Michelle.
484.
485.
486. And so, after all that drying and peeling, this was the final result. :)
487.
488.
494. Let's talk about eating healthy (and try to envision ourselves doing so).
495. Oftentimes, we eat what tastes best, right? However, we know little about making the best of what we put into our food to get the most out of it.
496.
497. Therefore, I've devised a food chart of food combinations that not only delivers a great taste to your food, but also maximizes the nutrition value.
498.
499.
500.

 501.

 502. TOMATO & AVOCADO - THE DIGESTIVE COMBO
503. A great combo especially in your salads or with pita bread or quesadillas. Reason why is (okay, we're gonna get a little scientific here) because tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a pigment rich antioxidant known as carotenoid. It helps in reducing cancer risk & cardiovascular disease. Avocado contains healthy fats which when combined with carotenoid, it allows at least 40% more to be absorbed into your system to aid digestion. Not to mention, this combo is absolutely delicious!
504.
505.
506.
507.

 508.

 509. OATS & OJ - THE POWER-UP COMBO
510. Both of these contain the organic compound known as phenol. It works to stabilize your LDL cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or what they call bad cholesterol) levels. Not to mention, that boost of Vitamin C from the juice helps keep your brain more active & attentive. The fibre-richness in oats will keep you full and energized all morning, so you will be prevented from getting too hungry and over-eating during lunch. In my books, one of the best breakfast combos. It wouldn't hurt to throw in some banana slices or strawberries with those oats too.
511.
512.
513.
514.

 515.

 516. BROCCOLI & TOMATO - THE ANTI CANCER COMBO
517. I call this the stir-fry combo. They don't taste so great in salads (because I really dislike raw/steamed broccoli) but they work great in a stir-fry. Now, we know tomatoes are rich in cancer-fighting carotenoids. Broccolis on the other hand contains sulphur compounds that is known to delay cancer growth. So logically (and scientifically), combining these two veggies creates one ass-kicking, powerful anti-cancer effect. New research have also shown that this combination specifically prevents prostate cancer. However, it's also very effective in prevention for any sort of cancerous growth.
518.
519.
520.
521.

 522.

 523. BLUEBERRIES & GRAPES - THE ANTIOXIDANT COMBO
524. Blueberries are no doubt delicious and they are chock full of great antioxidants that works as an anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging. As for grapes, they are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that ranges from everything blueberries have, but also including anti-bacterial, brain health enhancing (against Alzheimers), anti-constipation and helps with indigestion. So naturally, combining these two berries (or even along with other berries) can create what scientists call, a synergistic effect. Safe to say that it's absolutely delicious & nutritious.
525.
526.
527.
528.

 529.

 530. LEMON & LETTUCE - THE CLEANSING COMBO
531. This is my absolute favorite combo for my salads. Lemon contains many health properties and cleansing is one of it's traits. But I would like to stress that lemons are chock full of Vitamin C, just like oranges. Lettuce on the other hand, is one of the greenies, packed with iron. With this combo, you should know that the Vitamin C helps make the plant-based iron more absorbable. Lemon juice makes the absolute best salad dressing.
532.
533.
534.

 535.

 536. TURMERIC & BLACK PEPPER - THE FAT-BURNER COMBO
537. A well-known spice from India, turmeric is made up of curcumin (the natural phenols responsible for its yellow color) and contains many health benefits. Some which includes reducing the risk of childhood leukemia and also as a natural liver detoxifier. Black pepper on the other hand aids in digestion. Combining the two spices enhances the absorption of curcumin by 1,000 times. That causes your body to burn at a better rate, thus burning away 20% more calories out of your daily metabolic rate. Nothing like a great blend of spices to tingle your tastebuds - especially when used in fish or poultry dishes.
538.
539.
540.
541. These are just some of the few great, easy combos that would naturally enhance your health benefits. You may not notice it, but these are the exact science reactions that happens in your body every single time you mix and match the right stuff together. Remember, combos can be made up of more than just two items. Have fun experimenting! :)
544.

 545.
546.
547.
548. This goes out to all my fellow designers & artists.
549.
550. Once in a while, we get that thing we dread - the creative block.
551. Sometimes it lasts a while, sometimes it just stays blocked and you'll never know when it'll unclog itself again. This really blows, especially if you work in the creative industry and you need to be able to churn out fresh ideas day by day. Talk about drying out the creative well.
552.
553. The idea is to devise a plan to help you work around your creative block the next time it happens. That way, when you're prepared, you're less likely to give up and feel miserable about it.
554.
555.
556. INSPIRATION ON STANDBY
557. Sign up for a service like Tumblr or PinInterest to help you collect photos or words that you like. It's always these little things that will spark your next best idea. That way each time you face a creative block, all you need is to look through the archive of what you've collected - you'll never know what you'll spark. I'm a fond user of Tumblr, you can check out my storage of things that I like.
558.
559.
560. PAPER & PEN
561. Always always always have that little notebook and paper on standby. Whenever inspiration strikes, write it down or sketch it out. Don't fancy carrying too many things out with you? Utilize your iPhone. With amazing apps like Evernote, you can store your ideas as text, photos or even voice notes.
562.
563.
564. MUSIC MUSE
565. Listen to music. More often than not, music strikes up inspiration within creative people. Just be sure to have a variety of genres (I don't think Bruno Mars or Snoop Dog helps much with inspiration) on your iPod. My favorite inspiration-inducing music currently comes from Amon Tobin's amazing album, ISAM. Find what makes your brain tick - and just go with the flow of ideas.
566.
567.
568. ART INSPIRES ART
569. When in a deep deep rut, visit a museum or art gallery to view another artist's artwork. Or you can browse online (Deviantart, Behance, etc). Either way, looking at someone else's work (especially if it's a different style) usually helps influence and adds depth to your next great idea.
570.
571.
572. Keep them ideas rollin' in.
573.
574.

"twenty-twelve & resolutions"

 575.

 576.

 577.

 578.
579.
580. It's that time of the year again. Time to make new resolutions (again) and promise to stick to them (again) before the end of the year comes & we make more resolutions, once again.
581.
582.
583. However, you have got to know that despite my straight record of not fulfilling resolutions for 20 over years in my life, I have kept to TWO of my priority resolutions this year and ONE which happened very recently.
584.
585.
586. 2011 GOALS (ACHIEVED)
587.
588. #1 JOIN THE GYM
589. Which I did and it lead to a whole trail of goodness - my fitblr (fitness inspiration on tumblr), my blog which now has a dedicated health & fitness genre, and not to mention, shedding 9 kilos in 8 months (current stats).
590.
591. #2 LEARN HOW TO COOK
592. Never cooked anything (instant noodles & sandwiches don't count as cooking) until this year. I still have an irrational fear of frying things in the pan but I've pulled through anyways. Sure, I got burnt and nicked a lil' but I can now say that I can cook. Don't believe me? Check out my kitchen adventures.
593.
594. #3 SET UP AN ART SHOP
595. Something which I've wanted to do since I discovered & got inspired by Derek Hess 5 years ago. I thought I still had another couple of years to wait for that but with really great continuous support from my friends, family and followers, I now have my own online art shop set up - with 5 print orders within the first hour of going live.
596.
597.
598. With that said, let's now round up resolutions for 2012 shall we?
599. I'm just listing the top priorities for 2012, achievable and very much attainable goals.
600.
601.
602. 2012 GOALS
603.
604. #1 TRAVEL
605. I've always had that little bit of wanderlust in me so, I want to travel somewhere inspiring. Fingers crossed for Peru.
606.
607. #2 CLIMB MT KINABALU
608. It's very, very possible. And it's already a plan that's planned between me & my best friend. See you at the peak.
609.
610. #3 EXPAND MY ART
611. I don't know how, I don't know when but when inspiration strikes, I'll know and you'll know too. You don't rush art.
612.
613.

 614.

 615.

 616.

 617.

 618. Because this is so true to the very core.

 619.
620.
621.
622. #4 STAY ON THE FITNESS & HEALTH WAGON
623. Yes, Christmas has messed with my exercise & diet habits and god knows what CNY might do to me. However, next year is not about losing weight anymore. I'm back to my healthy BMI weight - the challenge is to work on maintaining it all and be a much healthier & fit person overall. Oh, and of course, to look good in my clothes too.
624.
625. #5 LEARN A NEW INSTRUMENT
626. I've never been a musical person (though I love musicals & music) so I'm gonna use this new year to learn the guitar. It's simple, kinda easy and doesn't require much notes unlike piano (I really hate notes. Had music class in elementary school and hated it). I've actually started training my fingers and my tone deaf ears so hopefully something will come out of this.
627.
628. Because resolution #4 is pretty much the bigger priority (which will also affect resolution #2), I'm gonna need some really good reminders - and so do you because let's face it, who doesn't want to be in tip top condition, right? As explained in a previous post, a balanced diet & workout regimen (like running especially) will keep the weight off, even if you're just lazing on the couch watching Jersey Shore for a week, the burning never stops.
629.
630.
631.

 632.

 633.
634.

 635.

 636.
637.

 638.

 639.
640.

 641.

 642.
643.
644. I think these are the four most important rules of achieving great health. That and to love, laugh and live in the moment of course. ;) Have a happy new year.
645.
646.
647. What are your 2012 goals?
648.
651.

 652.

 653.
654.
655. It’s really sad to know that girls are growing up wanting only to be skinny and beautiful because as a child everyone always told them how pretty they were, and it’s what’s messing everything up. Can we please raise our children to be MORE than attractive? Stop throwing remarks about their looks all the time and instead encourage them to talk about books, art, films and ideas.
656.
657. Young girls shouldn’t have to grow up being insecure because they don’t look like the pretty girls or those magazine models and feel inferior - and want to lose weight and change everything about their appearance by putting on layers of cosmetics and going under the knife. They should be taught how to appreciate everything about themselves rather than to try and be someone else. Most importantly, they should grow up wanting to change the world and to learn as much as possible.
658.
659. We also make this quite obvious to men as well, that the pretty women are the ones to go after, the ones you want to hook up with. Women are more than a piece of ass. It should be normal to have a conversation with a woman without expecting her to sleep with you just for listening. It should be safe for her to walk down the street without getting taken advantage of.
660.
661. I only want the best for our future and for us.
662.
663.

"closet mess"
664. After a good whole month of working on this piece, I've finally completed it.
665. For the first time ever, this piece is also available for purchase as a framed print. More details will be up soon, but you're welcome to email me for enquiries.
666.
667.
668.

 669.

 670.

 671.

 672.

 673. The initial sketching process. A flurry of graphite & ink. And eraser dust.

 674.

 675.

 676.

 677.

 678.

 679.

 680.

 681. I actually did color study and many hours of proper blending with at least 15 different colors.

 682.
683.
684. So, I've been trying out this whole mixed media process where traditional art meets digital (Photoshop) and I think marrying them really makes it all the better. Some things you just can't do on paper alone.
685.
686.
687.

 688.

 689.
690.
691. I've tidied up some of the rougher edges but left some of the raw color pencil grains intact.
692. I already have another piece in the works so stay tuned! :)
693.
694. p/s: This is the low-res version of the final artwork hence the clip in quality. Rest assured the final printed piece will be perfectly clear & crisp.
700.
701. As we bid goodbye to yet another year, we say hello to future memories.
702. Friends & lovers come and go, some stayed while some strayed,
703. Families come closer, but also further apart in some ways,
704. Bits and pieces of ourselves may change, distort or fade,
705. But we always must remember to live in the moment and take things as they come.
706.
707. Merry Christmas everyone! Let us all leap into the new year with grace. :)
710. I'm an absolute sucker for Thai food. I've already made a very award-worthy, delicious Thai tom yum soup a while back. This time, I'm venturing into another one of my favorite Thai dishes, the basil chicken or known as gai pad grapow.
711.
712.
713.

 714.

 715.

 716.

 717.

 718. They're usually done with minced chicken meat but I like mine bite-sized.

 719.
720.
721. I kid you not, this is absolutely delish! And unbelievably easy to make.
722.
723.
724. INGREDIENTS
725. A whole piece of chicken breast (sliced or minced to your liking)
726. 4 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
727. 2 shallots (finely chopped)
728. 1 1/4 tablespoons fish sauce
729. 1 teaspoon white sugar
730. 1 big bunch of Thai basil leaves (stems removed)
731. 4 bird’s eye chilies (sliced into small pieces)
732. 2 dashes ground white pepper
733. 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
734.
735.
736.
737.

 738.

 739.

 740.

 741.

 742. These are four of the most basic ingredients that can easily be found in every kitchen.

 743.
744. It's crucial to prep your ingredients (chopping, dicing, slicing) beforehand to ease your cooking process. Especially for people like me who panics in the kitchen when something goes wrong.
745.
746.
747.

 748.

 749.

 750.

 751.

 752.

 753.

 754.

 755.

 756. Be sure to use FRESH basil leaves, not the bottled ones. Sweet basil works beautifully.

 757.
758.
759. A word of caution: Please use the bird's eye chillies sparingly. I used four and it turned out way spicier than I imagined (but I love spicy food anyways so I didn't mind) so for those who have medium tolerance to chilli, I would suggest using only two. You have ben warned.
760.
761. When all is prepped and ready to go, heat up your olive oil in a skillet. Once the oil is heated, throw in the garlic and shallots. Stir fry until it's aromatic, usually about a minute or less before adding the chicken.
762.
763.
764.
765.

 766.

 767.

 768.

 769.

 770. Fun fact: I have an unexplainable fear of frying things in hot oil. But I pulled through anyways, not without a lot of antsy moments.

 771.
772.
773. If you're using minced meat, just use your spatula and toss everything until it's evenly mixed. If you prefer slices instead, like me, just keep flipping them over, keeping both sides at a consistent cooked-color. Mix the chicken with the garlic and shallots so that the flavors can marry.
774.
775. Now, once the chicken changes to a whitish color with slight browning, throw in the rest of the seasonings (chillies, fish sauce, sugar) and mix it all up. You may also add a little salt to taste but the fish sauce should have given it enough saltiness.
776.
777. After that, throw in the basil leaves and stir everything together until the leaves are wilted. The amazing basil fragrance should be really aromatic, mixed in with the spiciness and tanginess of your dish.
778.
779. Finally, when your chicken is nice and well-browned, add that bit of white pepper stir it around one last time and you're done! Best served hot with a side of veggies and rice.
780.
781. Or like me, you can whip it up into a spicy basil chicken salad.
782.
783.

 784.

 785.

 786.

 787.

 788. Keep it healthy; use only lemon juice for the dressing over crunchy baby lettuce and rocket lettuce.

 789.
790.
791. That's all there is to it. Enjoy!
792.
794. With my recent venture into health & fitness, coupled with the experience of having two of my cousins battling leukemia - I am now declaring myself a semi-health freak. 'Semi' because I still have a bit of chocolate and junk food once in a while and I still think that 'organic' food is a marketing scheme for the super marts to make more money.
795.
796. Nontheless, I'm making much healthier food choices these days. How?
797. I'll tell you right after I enlighten you on the 7 worst foods you shouldn't digest.
798.
799.
800.
801.

 802.

 803.
804.
805. #1 WORST FOOD: Processed meat
806. I know this looks delicious. And meat in general is a good thing. But NOT processed meat. Processed meat referring to meat that is not fresh off the bone, that has been preserved by smoking, curing, or salting with chemical preservatives. Over-indulgence of processed food (aside from meat) are linked to a risk of colon cancer, yikes! Toilet issues are the worst issues to ever have. That's due to the products being high in salt, fat and cholesterol. Have a burger once a month if you have to, but if I can go through 3 months without having one, so can you. Mind over matter.
807.
808.
809.
810.

 811.

 812.
813.
814. #2 WORST FOOD: Frozen Meals
815. They advertise good, look good and gives off good promises. They even sound real healthy too. But that's what all that is, advertising. Research by LIVESTRONG.com has found that most of these frozen meals are high in sodium and over 1,000 calories per meal. So really, is saving that $1 really worth it? The best frozen meals are the ones you cook yourself and freeze in your own freezer. It always pays to prepare your weekly meals in advance, something which I do now on a weekly basis.
816.
817.
818.
819.

 820.

 821.
822.
823. #3 WORST FOOD: Donuts
824. Sure, they're tasty and pretty. They also contain about 200-300 empty calories each and they're always excessively sweet. Ever wondered why those cops eating donuts on stakeouts in movies are always obese? Now you know why. Just remember that one donut s equivalent to one glass of vodka daiquiri. Empty calories, void of nutrients and does your body no good at all.
825.
826.
827.
828.

 829.

 830.
831.
832. #4 WORST FOOD: Potato chips
833. I will admit this; I still indulge in them once in a while. That makes them all the more evil. Especially when they're plain 'bad carbs' that distorts your waistline horribly. That excessive salt chips contain is also responsible for why your body bloats. Too much salt causes water retention in your body; which causes your body to store water and puff you up. Personal experience - still trying to learn from it and to curb that bad choice of food.
834.
835.
836.
837.

 838.

 839.
840.
841. #5 WORST FOOD: Low-fat foods
842. I'm talking about those unhealthy, trans-fat junk/snack food that claims to be 'LOW-FAT'. What it actually is is that it's just another marketing gimmick. Psychologically, people tend to buy TWICE the amount of food that the mind believes to be 'healthier'. When in actual fact, most low-fat products just have to simply decrease the serving size to legally claim so. Which consumers would then think, "It's cheaper (smaller in size) and it's low-fat, I'll buy TWO instead of just one." This leads to you taking in more calories than you would with the regular product.
843.
844.
845.
846.

 847.

 848.
849.
850.
851. #6 WORST FOOD: Margarine
852. Margarine is better than butter but DON'T be fooled. It's just as bad. Margarine claims to be cholesterol-free and that it's a healthy alternative to butter. However, studies show that margarine contains plenty of trans fats that will eventually elevate cholesterol levels. Skip the fake stuff, go for the good stuff like olive oil. I absolutely LOVE extra virgin olive oil, I use it in everything I cook.
853.
854.
855.
856.

 857.

 858.
859.
860. #7 WORST FOOD: Soda
861. Sugar, sugar and more sugar. Did you know that drinking as little as TWO soft drinks a week increases a person's risk of getting pancreatic cancer? It's a known fact that one bottle of soda contains 10 teaspoons of sugar. That much sugar can only do more damage & zero good. Recent studies also show that drinking more than 2.5 cans of soft drinks a day will increase risk of death by cardiovascular disease & risk of developing dabetes. For those reasons above as well as the fact that I hate too much sugar and carbonated drinks made me give up soft drinks completely.
862.
863.
864. Take good care of your body. It's the only one you've got.
865.
866.
867. So now, what are the first steps into making healthier food choices?
868.
869.

 870.
871. #1 DON'T BUY TEMPTATION
872. Why tempt yourself by buying that huge load of junk food? You can't eat what you don't have. Instead, buy a load of healthy food to snack on. My top choices: seaweed, water crackers, tuna, homemade snack sticks, zucchini.
873.
874. #2 BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH TO WORK/SCHOOL
875. Outside food is usually oily and over seasoned with extra sodium you don't need. The best thing I've done recently is to bring my own food to work. Saves money, keeps you healthy, saves you the hassle of driving out to lunch which saves you time. What I'd usually do is to cook my lunch the night before, store them in the fridge and heat them up again in the morning before I head off to work. Unless if I'm making a tasty tuna sandwich or salads (like my favorite thai prawn salad), I'd prep them the night before.
876.
877. #3 LOOK-UP HEALTHY FOOD SITES
878. Getting into the kitchen and making yourself lunch is tough, I know. Been there, done that. I was a complete kitchen noob right until recently when I decided for once to TRY (because my 2011 resolution was try things I've always avoided trying, like going to the gym, which I do now) so I looked up easy recipes online (but healthy ones) and I've managed to wrestle at least 3 stars for my cooking skills. I've also realized I have a knack for it. If only I had tried years ago. So don't waste any more time, TRY. Start with easy.
879.
880. #4 WATER, NOT SODA
881. Not even iced lemon tea, honey lemon, teh tarik, mango lassi - NONE of those. Nothing but water. Water has zero calories and fills you up and is healthy on all accounts. Why even consider anything else?

 882.
883.
884.
885. So really, what other excuses do you have for bad food that's making you overweight & unhealthy? Healthy doesn't always mean salad & greens ONLY. Healthy is simply greens & fruits combined with delicious food sources that are natural (eggs, meat, fish, oats) and NOT chemically enhanced to taste better & last longer.
886.
887. If you still love processed and chemically enhanced food, you do NOT appreciate the real essence of food. You're only eating for the sake of eating, but not really tasting food (because chemicals aren't legit enough to be considered as food).
888.
889.

"eggs, beer & hair"
890.

 891.

 892.
893.
894. You heard me right.
895.
896. So, apparently, beer is considered really great for hair. I've never tried it personally, but some women swear by it. (I wonder if they're the same ones who swear by the theory of drinking beer for larger bosoms) Also, eggs are well known for strengthening hair due to their protein content. But I'd never try it, no matter how good they are, they stink and the smell sticks to hair for days. I'd still prefer the use of avocado as a yummy hair mask.
897.
898. However, fret not as you are able to enjoy the benefits of soft & strong hair using both beer & egg. I was in the Boots store in Bangkok, Thailand a month ago and I was convinced by a salesgirl to purchase their Beer & Egg Intensive Hair Treatment for Weightless Hair.
899.
900.

 901.

 902.
903.
904. It was pretty cheap, about 200 Baht (RM 20) so I thought yeah, why not?
905.
906. So I've been using it for about 3 months now on a weekly basis. I really like its texture, it's thick, soft and stiff; sort of like batter. It doesn't smell too much of eggs though I can catch a hint of beer. Not my favorite scent in the world but when it washes off, it leaves my hair all silky and smooth, which I love.
907.
908. It didn't exactly cure my dry hair completely, but it does give it a little more body and shine - plus I find my hair slightly stronger - it doesn't break off too easily while brushing. Usually after I'm done blow-drying/air-drying my hair, I'd slap on some royal jelly to further seal in all that moisture. Working in a 'split-end snipping session' before shampooing and applying this product really helps too.
909.
910. So, would I go back for this product again? Maybe. Scent is important to me so if I ever find some other product that smells better, I might just move away from this.
911.
912.

"apple-cranberry hand pies"
923. Why is it amazing?
924. Because it's easy to make, delicious and not overly sweet.
925.
926.
927. INGREDIENTS
928. DOUGH
929. 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
930. 1 tsp sugar
931. 12 tbsp cold butter (salted)
932. 1/4 cup cold water
933.
934. FILLING
935. 2 apples
936. 1/4 cup cranberries (dried or fresh)
937. 1 tbsp sugar
938. 1/2 tbsp all-purpose flour
939. 1/4 tsp cinnamon
940. 1/8 tsp ground cloves (or ground about 5 pieces of cloves)
941.
942.
943.
944. We shall make the dough first as it requires time to set.
945. The original recipe requires the ingredients to be pulsed in a food processor but since I do not own one, I mixed all the ingredients in the mixing bowl. Mix it up until it forms a ball of dough. If it still doesn't form a ball, add in more cold water, one teaspoon at a time.
946.
947. Roll the dough into a ball. Lightly dust a sheet of cling wrap with flour and wrap the ball.
948. Place it in the refrigerator to set for about 30 minutes.
949.
950. Now for the filling, chop your apples into tiny cubes. Once that's done, mix it up with all the other ingredients in a bowl. Be sure that everything is mixed evenly.
951.
952.

 953.

 954.
955.
956. 30 minutes later : Get your ball of dough out of the oven and roll it out with a rolling pin.
957. Use a circular object or a circular cookie cutter (size is up to you) and cut out as many circles as you can. Roll up the leftovers and roll them out to make more circles until there is no dough left.
958.
959. Place your circles on a parchment-paper-lined baking tray and scoop your fillings onto each circle. Take another circle to cover it up, press firmly at the sides to seal your pie.
960.
961.

 962.

 963.
964.
965. You can use a fork and gently press it against the sides of the pie to create those ridges. Use a sharp knife to cut two small slits at the top of the pie to allow it to 'breathe' while baking.
966.
967. Now, pop your pies into the oven and bake in a pre-heated oven at 177 °C for about 25-30 minutes.
968.
969.
970.

 971.

 972.
973.
974. Be sure to keep an eye out on your pies, just to make sure they're browning nicely but not getting too brown. The juices from the apple might bubble a bit at the slits above, but that's normal.
975.
976.
977.

 978.

 979.
980.
981. Take them out, let them cool for a while and enjoy!
982.
983.
984.

 985.

 986.
You will be assured
1020. that the brand has covered a massive area of the available media; from Internet
1021. marketing to TV info-mercials. With that as an added advantage for interested
1022. re-sellers - you can be certain to find yourself within an expanding and
1023. elevating network. Think spider-web. Only, more threads of links, connecting
1024. everyone within its network - who knows, this may be the next global outbreak.

1028. For every growing & success-ridden company, it is always a MUST to
1029. give back to the community - as a form of thanks for the continuous support
1030. given. Such acts of generosity are carried out via corporate social
1031. responsibility (CSR) projects. Jonfactory.com is actively involved in various community welfare projects - from
1032. providing basic supplies to the needy, donations to the elderly home folks and
1033. church christenings. The list flows on and the generous team at jonfactory.com is ensuring that with more members partaking in their community, the
1034. more good it will bring to the less fortunate. It's very much like a modern day
1035. Robin Hood, except that in jonfactory.com's

 1062.

 1063.
1064.
1065. I'll admit it, I'm a HUGE sucker for snack sticks, especially Pretz. I also love other brands of snack sticks like Pocky & Rocky - but Pretz is my ultimate flavor because it comes in a whole series of flavors. From shrimp to salads to even shark fin flavors - they have it all.
1066.
1067. The only problem is that we don't get every delicious flavor out there here in Malaysia. I especially love Larb-flavored Pretz, larb being a Thai salad, and so far, only available in Thailand.
1068.
1069. You might have remembered me trying my hand at grissini (italian breadsticks) a while back, and from that recipe, I modified and made some alterations to create biscuit sticks that will be much crunchier (as this recipe does not require yeast) and best of all - you can make ANY FLAVOR you want.
1070.
1071. Flavoring can come from curry powder, chilli powder, salt, pepper, chives, garlic - the sky's the limit. However, I decided to make a very basic salted black pepper flavor for mine (I'm a total sucker for black pepper as well).
1072.
1073.
1074. INGREDIENTS
1075.
1076.

 1077.
200g flour

 1078.
1 tsp baking powder

 1079.
1 tsp sugar

 1080.
1/2 tsp salt

 1081.
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

 1082.
1/2 cup water

 1083.
coarse black pepper, salt (or insert any other ingredient for the flavor you want)

 1084.

 1085.
1086.
1087.
1088. Combine all the ingredients above in a bowl and mix it together. Knead until it becomes dough. If the dough turns out to be a little sticky, add about 10-20g of flour to reduce the stickiness. Dough should be soft but not sticky.
1089.
1090.
1091.

 1092.

 1093.
1094.
1095. Fold it over a few times and knead until it becomes nice and soft. Then, this will be where you will add your flavoring. For me, I added the coarse black pepper.
1096.
1097.
1098.

 1099.

 1100.
1101.
1102. Sprinkle the black pepper over the dough and fold. Repeat until the dough contains the desired amount of black pepper you want. Just be sure to put enough because bear in mind, the dough will be rolled out into thin sticks, and you'd want each stick to have enough flavor.
1103.
1104.
1105.

 1106.

 1107.
1108.
1109. Roll out your sticks. It may be thin or thick depending on your preference. The sticks don't have to be perfectly straight - it's nearly impossible to achieve that unless you have a machine at home. Just try to keep a consistent length and thickness. You can also make it slightly fancier by giving your rolled-out sticks a little twist to create that twisted stick look.
1110.
1111. Now to lightly salt them. I didn't add the salt into the dough with the black pepper because too much salt will ruin the taste. What I did was to sprinkle a very teeny bit of salt in a line and roll a stick over it to make it stick. That way, each stick gets just the right amount of saltiness. If you're using chilli or curry powder, you can skip mixing the flavoring in with the dough and just roll your sticks over the powder.
1112.
1113. The next part is to pop your sticks into the oven. Bake them at 170°C for about 25-30 minutes until they're slightly brown. Always be sure to make a test batch with 5 sticks to see which settings work best with your oven. Once it's done, take them out, let it cool for 5 minutes, then store them in an airtight container.
1114.
1115.
1116.

 1117.

 1118.
1119.
1120. Light and crunchy! :) Enjoy!
1121.
1123.

 1124.

 1125.
1126.
1127. I've just recently discovered that I'm in love with sandwiches. I've always likes them - now I LOVE them. Call it a phase, but sandwiches are the only thing I ever think of eating right about now.
1128.
1129. The best part is, they're so damn easy to make and so healthy.
1130.
1131. If you've followed my blog for a while, you might remember my favorite recipes for a french toast tuna sandwich and also the savoury french toast.
1132.
1133. Today I just want to talk about the perfect, classic tuna sandwich - my favorite version. It's REALLY simple to make - even my cat could do it; if he had hands.
1134.
1135.
1136. INGREDIENTS
1137.
1138.

 1139.
Wholewheat bread

 1140.
Spicy tuna spread (you can use tuna chunks in water too but be sure to add your own mayo)

 1141.
Zucchini

 1142.
Lettuce

 1143.
Tomato slices

 1144.
Olives

 1145.
Black pepper

 1146.
A dash of lemon

 1147.
Alternatively, you can add in onions, chives, olives or whatever you desire.

 1148.

 1149.
1150.
1151.
1152. Just spread the tuna over the bread, add the lemon and black pepper and toast it in the oven for approximately 5 minutes at 150 °C. When its done, just add in the veggies as you please and you're all set.
1153.
1154. This sandwich goes terrific with a cup of yogurt and a glass of green tea. :)
1155.
1156.
1157.

"putting fun + burn together"
1158. The average person hates exercise. I mean, who wouldn't prefer the TV and watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother as compared to sweating, right? Maybe you don't have a gym membership (or is thinking of getting one) or maybe you just don't have that same drive to workout like some people do. Maybe you just need someone to kick your butt and motivate you to hit the gym.
1159.
1160. To make your life a tad simpler, I've compiled a short list of things you can do, to get your daily dose of workout. But bear in mind, these alone are not enough to help you shed serious weight off - it is however, a good warm up to kickstart your workout.
1161.
1162. CAUTION: Requires an awesome amount of balls & imagination.
1163.
1164.
1165. Have a crazy dance competition with yourself
1166. Put on some crazy music, pretend like you're in the club and just dance your heart out in front of the mirror. Dance faster & crazier and try to beat your own reflection. It's silly but by the end of it, you'll feel that heart rate get all pumped up - and that's when you go out and run or hit the gym. (I recommend doing this when you have the whole house to yourself, to avoid your brother posting it up on YouTube)
1167.
1168.
1169. Go for a run - and pretend it's a zombie apocalypse
1170. Remember that 'white woman's workout' where she hires a guy to chase after her, pretending to be a robber just so she could get her running mojo going? Same theory applies here. Pretend zombies are after you and you're the last survivor. Otherwise, pretend you're being chased by a dog / dementors / clowns / psychos / your dentist. Just tap into your imagination.
1171.
1172.

 1173.

 1174.
1175.
1176.
1177. Go back to when you're five
1178. And organize a game of Tag or Police & Thieves with your friends or siblings. Our childhood is the most active time of our lives - we should go back in time once in a while.
1179.
1180.
1181. Walk your dog
1182. If you don't have a dog, offer to walk your neighbor or friend's dog. Enjoy the scenery while you're at it. Bring along a camera if you're into photography.
1183.
1184.

 1185.

 1186.
1187.
1188.
1189. Phone squats
1190. During a phone conversation with your friend, do some squats or lunges. See how long it'll take your friend to notice you getting out of breath from doing those amazing butt & thigh-shaping workouts.
1191.
1192.
1193. Organize a water-fight competition
1194. There is no better time to buy lots of balloons than when you're preparing for a water-balloon war. Get all of your friends to join in. It's cheap and fun. Play in the fields so that the water doesn't go to waste and you don't have to worry about hitting passing cars.
1195.
1196.

 1197.

 1198.
1199.
1200.
1201.
1202. There are many more ways to make sweating more fun, while burning some calories in between. Just be sure to also do regular workouts when you can. Exercise shouldn't be something you dread so make it fun and keep it regular! ;)
1203.
1204.

"spooksters of the night"

 1205.

1384. So, remember my Sugar Skull artwork from a few months back?
1385. It is now live, on my very own face.
1394.
1395. Say hello to my 2011 Halloween look. :)
1396. Well it isn't exactly the same as how I drew it on paper, but this was the best I could do with face paint.
1404. Who wouldn't want a table like this? It's so freaking cool!
1405.
1406. Designed with a thermochromatic finish, this table and bench set responds to the heat any object, body part and leaves a ghostly, x-ray like watermark which lingers until it cools back down to room temperature. Remember those color changing cereal spoons from the 90s? This works exactly like that, except that this is waaaaay cooler.
1419. Okay, I'm gonna sound like as though I'm writing a thesis on fitness but really, I'm just putting information out there for everyone who wants facts & REAL results.
1420.
1421. Over the last 5 months, I have finally managed to shed 8kg in my never-ending battle with weight loss. With that experience, everything that I've researched, tried and known are all on this blog under the health & fitness label. As always, I hope that this would help you as much as it had helped me. :)
1422.
1423.
1424. These are some of the changes you can implement into your life to really crank up that fat-burning process. No pills, no starvation. Just a load of truths from the world of science & psychology used for your fitness advantage.
1425.
1426.
1427. Catch the running bug
1428. FACT - You'll continue to burn fat after you jog. People who run at least four hours a week will burn more calories than non-runners, even when they're NOT running. It's true because I had a lazy week where I literally did nothing but eat & sleep, and I surprisingly did not gain any weight during that time. I usually run 4-5 days a week and it's seriously doing me a whole lot of good. I'd definitely recommend everyone to give running a try, I've got a beginner's guide to get into running that's pretty useful. (if I do say so myself)
1429.
1430.
1431.

 1432.

 1433.

 1434.

 1435.

 1436. Get running!

 1437.
1438.
1439.
1440. Max it out
1441. I used to have reservations about going over my maximum HR (heart rate) but then I realized that HR is just a number. Just as long as you do not get into the point where you feel faint or your heart's about to burst, you should keep your HR running at 80%. Going at your max HR for 40 minutes can amp your metabolism for 19 hours afterwards. That means, more fat to be torched even while you're watching TV.
1442.
1443.
1444. Lift weights.. slowly
1445. Strength training can help you trim a lot of fat - ask any trainer and they can tell you that. Why? Because more muscle = mega metabolism boost. And that speeds up your fat-burning process. If you lift your weights much slower than your normal speed for each rep, studies show that your strength increases by 50%.
1446.
1447.

 1448.

 1449.

 1450.

 1451.

1452. If kitty can do it, so can YOU!

 1453.
1454.
1455.
1456. Speed up, slow down and repeat
1457. Alternating is the key. Your body gets used to the workouts you do after a while, which will prevent you from burning as much as you should. So, play up your routine to keep your body guessing so that it won't have enough time to get used to anything, and continue to burn at its max.
1458.
1459.
1460. Put on weight (literally)
1461. No, I'm not talking about eating. In your everyday routine when you're not working out, wear a weighted vest or maybe carry a heavier bag around. This is one of my tricks to burn at least 10% of fats off, even when I'm not at the gym. Be sure to wear something comfortable so that you'll move around more.
1462.
1463.
1464. Download Tiesto, not Beethoven
1465. This is an absolute no-brainer but I still hear my gym playing really slow music. Invest in an iPod or MP3 player and have a playlist of upbeat songs to workout to. You will find yourself working harder with the right music. I've shared some songs from my Gym Jam playlist.
1466.
1467.
1468.

 1469.

 1470.
1471.
1472.
1473. Stay above 1,200 calories
1474. The media has always portrayed girls starving themselves to be skinny. Though that may work (along with being anorexic or bulimic) but it will also kill you in the long run, and you'll feel constantly depressed. I will always tell you, it's not about how much you eat, it's your food choices. Choose healthier food, eat more. You should also eat more than 1,200 calories per day because anything less than that forces your body to go into starvation mode where it will store fat for emergency use instead of burning it off. Not good because it'll become a habit that would be very hard to shake off.
1475.
1476.
1477. Get your snooze on
1478. Another no-brainer but yeah, sleep is a huge factor in weight loss. Trust me.
1479.
1480.
1481.
1482.

 1483.

 1484.
1485.
1486. So there you have it. Factors for weight loss that really make a huge difference if practiced well.
1487.
1488.
