At the end of the final, Rhode was tied with 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Christine Brinker of Germany at 88 targets and won the shoot-off to claim the silver, while Brinker took the bronze. The gold medal went to Italy’s Chiara Cainero, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist, who finished with a total of 95 hits.

“It was great to be back on the podium with Brinker and Cainero like at the Games,” Rhode said following her match. “The qualification rounds were kind of difficult because of the rain, but I tried to focus on each target. The final finished in a shoot-off, and shoot-offs are always unnerving, but I shot the best I could.”

Rhode’s U.S. teammates Haley Dunn and Ali Chiang finished in seventh and eighth places today with 64 and 63 targets respectively.

Competition at the San Marino World Cup, which is the fourth and final leg of the 2009 ISSF World Cup Series for Shotgun, continues on Thursday with the Men’s Skeet Final. The Men’s Double Trap event will take place on Saturday, June 20 and the Men’s and Women’s Trap events will conclude the World Cup June 22 and 23.

Skeet Men – World Champion Achilleos leaded the match

<o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="time"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="City"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="country-region"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="place"></o:smarttagtype> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Verdana; Murphy was keeping pace with two 23's but his overall 116 was just outside the cut off for the final at 118 but still finished well up the ranking in joint 8th.

Tanner had an improved performance on the second day with scores of 24 and 22 while in the MQS competition Corrigan posted a disappointing first round of 18, albeit on the "graveyard" range, but returned to form to finish with a 23 for an overall score of 112 which would place Corrigan within the top 25 in the main competition while O'Grady finished his tally for the day with 18 and 21 to finish on 93.

High Performance Programme Director Kevin Kilty said of the event "This is an excellent result for Derek and also for the HPP squad as they approach the upcoming European and World Championships. The amount of work and commitment given by the squad members this year has been inspiring and I congratulate them for returning a sterling performance under very difficult conditions."

With little time to rest and to take in their good performance the squad now moves to San Marino for the final World Cup event of the season.

The final is available to watch courtesy of ISSF TV with full commentary from Ireland's Shane Corrigan.

A new Double Trap Men record shot in Minsk

Hu Binyuan of China equalled the Double Trap Men World Record by shooting a qualification score of 147 out of 150 targets, and set a new Final World Record of 196 hits out of 200 targets, shattering the long-lasting 194-target record set by Italy\x92s Di Spigno at the 1999 World Championships of Tampere.

Minsk\x92s Top-3: China, Italy and Russia.

During the World Cup Stage in Minsk the People\x92s Republic of China grabbed two Gold medals, securing first place in the medal standings, followed by Italy that claimed the overall highest number of medals with one medal of each colour. Even during the practice the shooters have to spent so many cartridges. It has been proposed that the change in scheme of machines throwing birds might prove help in cutting the cost,” said Rathore, who won a silver medal at Athens Olympic to script a new chapter in Indian shooting.

“It may help the sport reach more shooters and broaden the base of the event. The major change will be that the birds will be thrown randomly from any line of machines and this would cut down the cost during practice because less number of practice sessions will be suffice,” said Rathore, who is in the city to discuss the change of rules in double tap event.

Rathore and Ronjan Singh will make suggestions to the International Shooting Federation, ISSF, regarding their views on the change of rules, which would be implemented from next year.

The new rules would not be favourable to any particular country but they will suit us because more people would come into shooting. The ISSF would take a final decision next year. The double trap shooters of country including me and Ronjan Sodhi will make our suggestions and then NRAI would take the matter to ISSF,” he said. National Rifles Associatio of India Baljit Singh Sethi said it was too early to say any thing.

The ISSF would meet in April next. But we have done our home work. I am the member of the committee which would decide the matter. We have talked to asian countries and hope to take matter through. The rules will be good for poor country like us,” said Sethi.

Indian Core Group Shooters 2009

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana;
