45.
Donations for BVWS of $1,000 and above are eligible for the little-known Colorado Child Care Tax Credit (CCCTC), which has the potential to greatly reduce the cost of your donation. For donors living and filing taxes in the state of Colorado, the CCCTC offers a 50% state tax credit on top of your federal tax deduction regardless of whether you federally itemize.

 46.
Many families have leverage a little-known Colorado tax credit to considerably reduce State taxes when donating specifically to schools such as BVWS. It is known as the Colorado Child Care Tax Credit (CCCTC). For any family that donates $1,000 or more we can supply a CCCTC letter so you can claim the credit. Depending on your tax situation, a $1,500 gift with the CCCTC can impact you much as a $500 gift without the CCCTC, after taxes. (Please see this example for how this might work. This is not tax advice. We ask that you talk to your tax accountant for more information about the CCCTC as it relates to your particular situation.)

In the end, everything that I learned supported what BVWS presented to us. I filed my taxes online through H&R Block’s website and the process was very easy – they had a line to enter the credit and the deduction/tax savings worked just as BVWS presented it!” Joshua Roseman past Finance Committee Chairman and BVWS Parent

 71.
6th Grade Students giving a trick and a treat… On Halloween students visited the Enchanted Cottonwood Forest and journeyed through a magical world. The individual presentations touched hearts with messages of wisdom and humor, as well as images of light that will live on through the cold and dark season of the year. The Halloween Enchanted Cottonwood Forest was a wonder-filled celebration of Halloween during the school day. It was a chance for the middle schoolers to practice their dramatic talents outside of the typical class play. Students created their own skits with their theater skills and projected the voices of the various animal characters for the young students! 8th grade buddies also carved pumpkins with their 1st grade counterparts and these jack-o-lanterns helped line the journey through the Cottonwoods. This enchanting experience, performed by the BVWS middle school, is a lovely way for the older students to include younger students in a Halloween experience during the school day!

 72.
Halloween is a festival with more ancient beginnings than many others that we celebrate. This celebration began with the druids in Britain and Brittany. To frighten evil spirits away, huge bonfires were lit on hilltops in honor of the sun god. Nuts and apples and other fruit from winter stores were roasted on these fires. As the Romans adopted this festival, they combined a festival of the dead with an honoring of the goddess of fruits and feasting. Christianity moved their celebration of All Saints to the Feast of All Souls – Nov 1st. Also traditionally celebrated on Nov 1st is The Day of the Dead (Spanish: el Día de Muertos or el Día de los Muertos). Many traditions recognizing spirits good and bad include good luck charms as well as charms, spells and predictions. With this background, today children don masks and costumes, carve pumpkins and visit door to door. Trickery is tolerated as we experience the eerie quality of this festival.

 73.
As part of the BVWS Spanish curriculum, students connect with the meaning behind the Día de los Muertos celebrating deceased authors and their works and creating festive art displaying honoring those who have passed.

 203.

Boulder Valley Kindergarten children, younger grade children and parents participate in a Lantern Walk carrying handmade lanterns as they journey across our campus. As the sun sets earlier and rises later, the world grows darker and the inner light of humankind wants to shine forth. Children and parents gather as the sun sets. Handmade lanterns, often decorated with stars, suns, and moons, are lit as a symbol for the children of their own individual light. There is a symbolic walk into the cold, dark evening which gives children and their families an experience of caring and sharing as we move toward the darkness of winter. Often times, a figure appears and provides his cloak to a lonely beggar along the way.

 204.
This event is open to Bluebell, Sunflower, Marigold, Lavender and 1st and 2nd grade BVWS classes. Celebrate the qualities of generosity and warmth of heart!

 205.
The Waldorf Martinmas celebration is inspired by old customs honoring St. Martin who was known for his gentleness, his unassuming nature, and his ability to bring warmth and light to those who were previously in darkness. On the evening of Martinmas, he is remembered in many French households with a festival of lanterns, carrying light throughout the darkened home, singing songs.

 239.
Younger students participate in walking a pine bough spiral path to light a candle. This quiet and simple, yet powerful experience of gradually bringing light into darkness is a memorable one and a favorite of students and parents alike.

 240.
The days are short, the nights are long and this Winter festival helps remind humankind of our ability to bring our own light into darker times… The Winter Spiral takes place in the first week of December. A spiral of greenery is laid out on the floor of a quiet, darkened room and filled with items representing three kingdoms: plant, mineral, and animal (man being the fourth). At the center a lit candle is placed, and each child is given a turn to make his or her way through the spiral to the center, carrying an unlit candle they have made in preparation for this day. When the center candle is reached the children light their own candle off of the central candle and then place it somewhere along the spiral as they make their way back out. As the children place their candle along the path the light in the room slowly grows. It is a quiet and moving experience, both to participate in and to watch…

 298.
A huge thank you to the Boulder Valley Waldorf community for donating not only the funds, but their time, energy and weekends to getting the old equipment out and the playground ready for the new structure!

 299.
Many people are pleasantly surprised to learn that Waldorf students spend a great deal of time outdoors. While this is especially true of Waldorf Early Childhood programs, all the classes at Waldorf schools through the grades are outside each day as part of the curriculum.

 300.
Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact with the world around them.

 301.
There are many reasons to bring children out into nature including to give them an opportunity to play with “natural toys” such as sticks, pine cones, and leaves, as well as navigating a play structure like the one we have. It’s an opportunity to breathe fresh air, witness the marvels of the natural world, increase the child’s power of observation and to calm them and to work out extra energy. At BVWS, movement is integrated into the academic subjects as we know that children learn best when they are engaging their fully body. From math, language arts, science and history, we incorporate group and individual movement, play performances, and more.

 338.
Historically, May Day celebrations were to honor the changing of the seasons, from darkness to light, and that a tree (the symbol of the “tree of life” and of the great strength and vitality of nature) was used in the ritual. The May Faire is a joyful colorful festival of spring. Unlike Halloween, its polar opposite (the festival of death), May Day brings with it the promise of rebirth and the retuning of spring.

 339.
Performers arrive at 9:30. Precession begins 9:45 Spring Dances 10-11am Food Trucks & Fair Games (11am-12:30pm)
