3. Choosing your primary keywords may be one of the most difficult parts of good
4. SEO. It is also, however, one of the most important. When you begin optimizing
5. your website for search engines, you will need to choose one primary keyword or
6. keyword phrase, and four to six secondary keywords. <br />

8. These keywords are going to be essential later on. You won't just use them for
9. a single page on your website. Instead, they should feature prominently on each
10. page of your website, in any website-related blogs, in any website-related
11. newsletters, and in any website-related press releases. SEO goes beyond just a

14. With that in mind, look for keywords that will stand the test of time. Avoid
15. keywords that are too general; you want targeted keywords for targeted traffic.
16. But don't swerve to the opposite extreme; a keyword is no good if it's

18. Your secondary keywords can be a little more flexible than your primary keyword
19. or keyword phrase. Pick the words people are most likely to use when searching
20. for your product or information. You should ideally have between four and six
21. secondary keywords, but if necessary, pick as many as ten. Don't go above ten,
22. as too many keywords end up diluting the importance of any of your keywords. <br />

24. Look for a blend of general and specific secondary keywords. Better yet, make
25. one or two of them keyphrases, such as "handcrafted knit scarves"

30. primary keyword phrase every time you link to your website, in blogs, in

53. of the sites that could possibly be listed or serve as a promotional tool for

130. site concisely and accurately.  They should not be promotional in nature. <i>Submitting
131. a promotional description rather than an objective, well written description
132. may significantly delay your site from being listed or prevent your site from
133. being listed at all.</i> <b>Auto-submission software is (and always has been) a
134. violation of this procedure. Sites submitted automatically are flagged and
135. deleted after the submission is accepted, without notification to you.</b>
136. Persistent automatic submission may force us to ban you from the dmoz site, so

146. submit a URL to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the
147. same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and
148. all affiliated sites.  Disguising your submission and submitting the same
149. URL more than once is not permitted.</span></div>

158. in which your site is listed, you may send an e-mail to an editor for the
159. category explaining your disagreement. Be polite and civil -- threatening or
160. abusive behavior will not be tolerated.</span></div>

179. the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for
180. your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such

182. <a href="http://www.google.com/"><span style="color: blue;">Google</span></a>, <a href="http://search.netscape.com/"><span style="color: blue;">Netscape Search</span></a>,
