2.
3. This post is a long time in coming - sorry about that.
4.
5. Tracing the Tribe - The Jewish Genealogy Blog is on hiatus
6.
7. Most of the wonderful action is now on Facebook.
22.

Many geneabloggers are attending and it is always good to see one's colleagues.

23. We'll soon be sharing notes on some excellent expert presentations. Two of my favorites focused on societies: building a better website and publicity tips. All societies should have the notes on these two informative programs.
24.
25. Geneablogger guru Thomas MacEntee - who handled publicity for this event - arranged an excellent media hub - sponsored by RootsTech - complete with computer connections and very comfy seating. Readers on Twitter will have seen the prolific tweets of bloggers here.
26.
27. Tracing the Tribe has been rather quiet for some time and this was due to a combination of heavy workload and very busy conference schedule. The calendar has finally slowed somewhat and we are getting back on track.
28.
29. Of course, presentation deadlines are quickly approaching for both Jamboree 2012 (Burbank, California; June) the Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE 2012 family history fair (London UK; February).
LIVE 2012 (London, UK; February).
32.
33. Tracing the Tribe has been named an official blogger for the second edition of the newest genealogy conference - RootsTech 2012 - which brings together developers and and consumers.
34.
35.

36. RootsTech invited the geneabloggers to a reception this week at FGS in Springfield, Illinois and provided a preview of exciting plans for February.
37.
38. The first edition was one of the most dynamic and exciting events we've attended. The conference was expertly planned and pulled together in a very short time. The participation of developers with their end-users proved fascinating for both genealogy market segments.
39.
40. With the event in Salt Lake City, many attendees will be coming in a few days early or staying a few days after to get some research in at the Family History Library.
41.
42.
Tracing the Tribe readers and everyone else can register (and pay for) the conference at the excellent discounted rate of $99 by midnight Friday, September 10 using the special code FGS99. It is unclear if it is midnight Pacific or East Coast, so do it NOW, and share the news with friends, family and genealogy society members.
For those who don't make that deadline, the early-bird rate is $129 through the end of November. Additionally, any person may register any other individuals at the same time. This means that readers can register friends, colleagues and genealogy society members.
43.
44. There's also a great student price of $35 (valid ID required) to encourage attendance by the younger generations.
45.
46. Did we mention that the hotel rates for RootsTech 2012 are very affordable?
47.
48. Go to the conference site - RootsTech - to learn more and register with the special code by midnight tonight.

Boston: Jewish genealogy nights at NEHGS

<img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YLdJRp9ifcQ/TjT71JwZjoI/AAAAAAAAC3Y/RS5NkrUwIzg/s200/JGSBOSTON_bwLOGO.jpg" t$="true" width="162" />
The Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston will be holding free Jewish genealogy nights at the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) in September.
50. No registration is required for the free sessions. The first is set for 6-8pm on September 21, at the NEHGS, 99-101 Newbury Street, Boston. It appears that the sessions will be held at the American Jewish Historical Society (AJHS), New England Archives, located on the fifth floor of the NEHGS. The AJHS archival materials are available to researchers - no fee for access.
51.
52. Interested in researching your Jewish genealogy? Have questions or don’t know where to start?
53.
54. The NEHGS is open on Wednesday evenings, when JGSGB members are available to help new and experienced researchers look into their family histories, answer questions, assist with brick walls and provide resource information. Twice each month, experienced genealogists will be at the AJHS reference desk. No appointment is necessary.
55.
56. For more information, contact Judi Garner at the AJHS.
57.
58. See the JGSGB website for additional news and upcoming meetings.
59.
60. For those who really like to plan ahead, note that the JGSGB will co-host, with IAJGS, the 2013 conference - the 33rd IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy - from 4-9 August 2013 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston.

Cleveland: 'Rocks, readings, rubbings' - August 3

<img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ko5HlFXx3-I/TjRw3QJS-UI/AAAAAAAAC3M/UAdgFfqdUKA/s1600/ClevelandJGS.jpg" t$="true" />
Planning to visit your family cemeteries? 71.
72. While many spotlighted new blogs focus on individual family history, there are quite a few in other categories and even some unique ones.
73.
74. Here are a few that we found most interesting, along with the links to the past few editions for more information on many others.
75.
76.
The Ultimate Family History Organizing System

Genealogy education
77.
78.

Sue Beus has a passion for genealogy work. After years of research she has developed a unique system to easily organize and preserve your family history.

79.
Heraldry: Musings on an Esoteric Topic
80. Genealogy education
81.
82.

I’m an Academic Herald. I’m not a “real” herald; I don’t design and register people’s coats of arms (though I can certainly suggest designs for those who might be interested). What I do is study, research, teach, and write about heraldry. (You can find some of my books about heraldry and a list of my articles and presentations about heraldry at “Our Website” below.) And I like to share what I have learned about heraldry, hence this blog. I hope that you’ll find it informative, interesting at least occasionally, and worth your time to come back. Got a question? Comments? Feel free to ask or let me know.

83.
Youth Genealogy & Historical Research
84. Genealogy education
85.
86.

This blog is designed to be a community blog where genealogists, family historians, and other lovers of history can share tips and resources to aid in the teaching of genealogy and historical research to young people. This blog will also highlight news about youth involved in genealogy and historical research projects. Youth Genealogy and Historical Research blog is owned by Genealogist and Family Historian Drusilla Pair of http://www.professordru.com/ and http://www.findyourfolks.blogspot.com/.

87.
Forgotten Faces and Long Ago Places
88. Photography blog
89.
These are someone’s family, their ancestors and I wonder sometimes as I look at them if one of them could possibly be one of my ancestors. As a collector of anything and everything, I have started buying up some of these photos and felt I needed to start sharing these somehow. Most have no names – why didn’t people put names on the back of these pictures?!? I will try to post many of the many photos I have, perhaps someone will recognize one or two. If you do, please let me know, I would be happy to reunite these photographs (people) with their descendants if contacted."

115.
116. The new UK series will premiere on BBC America tonight (Saturday, July 30).
117.
118. Read an interview on Collider.com with actor Simon Bird and creator/producer Robert Popper as they describe their own childhoods and the differences between American and UK Jewish families.
119.
120. According to the interview, there's a creepy neighbor, a grandmother in a bikini, embarassing parents and more.
121.
122. Here's one bit offered by Bird who plays one of the two brothers who get together with their family every Shabbat evening.
123.
124.
"I don’t think Robert is out to specifically write a Jewish sitcom. I think he wanted to write a sitcom about his family, and his family just happens to be Jewish, but they’re quite relaxed Jews. Some of the Jewish customs don’t really come into it, just because they’re not a big deal for Robert’s family. But, I’m a massive fan of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I don’t know if they’re over-the-top, though. On Seinfeld, Judaism didn’t really come up much. It does more in Curb, only for the occasional storyline, here and there. In America, you’ve had decades of humor being fused with Jewish humor. In England, we just don’t have that. Our humor is not infused with Jewish humor. It’s completely different. So, whenever I see Jewish people depicted, they’ve always been done in either an over-the-top way, or a sentimental way. This family is Jewish, and they meet on Friday night. Their candles are lit, but they’re not going to do the whole thing. The way they talk is modern British. It’s second generation and third generation Jewish people. Jewish people will recognize they’re Jewish, but non-Jewish people might not. They might, if they know some Jewish people, but it’s not an issue. If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, you just enjoy it.
Read the rest of the interview at the link above.
136.
137. The TOLLIN and TALLIN families settled in Newark, New Jersey (two brothers). Another TOLLIN branch was in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1899, and in Boston a few years later. TAYLOR went to Cleveland, and four TALALAI brothers went from Mogilev to Baku to Philadelphia where they took their sister's husband's name of FEINSTEIN and have been lost since.
138.
139. A new online resource is the Jewish Chronicle of Newark NJ, which can be accessed at GenealogyBank.
140.
141. The records include all sorts of social events ("hatch, match and dispatch"), community events, news of immigrant associations, local and international issues and much more.
142.
143. GenealogyBank is for-fee, but the free search will produce small bits of the articles, usually enough to learn if it is relevant for your purposes.
144.
145. Tracing the Tribe believes that all for-fee sites should offer free searching with snippets of the results. Learning what a site offers is the first step in deciding whether or not to allocate funds for that subscription!
146.
147. A quick search showed that there were more than 6,000 mentions of TOLLIN, a few of TALLIN. Many of the first variant were from long before my great-grandfather Aron Peretz Talalai arrived there in 1905, but the ones from that time are very interesting, with many relevant results. The paper was published from 1921 until 1943, covering a major portion of the time that my family lived in that city.
148.
149. GenealogyBank's resources cover newspapers in many states, and Tracing the Tribe found known family mentions in Massachusetts, Pennsyvania and Delaware publications.
150.
151. Intrigued by anything with a Springfield origin, I found very detailed information on Max Tollin (Mendl Talalai), the first Jewish builder in the town, who constructed the first two homes for the aging, the Kodimoh synagogue and its cemetery. His children were also seen in many results.
152.
153. In Newark, we saw results for the Mohliver Benevolent Society - Mohliver referring to Mogilev, Belarus - founded by friends and cousins of my great-grandfather, Aron Peretz Talalai TOLLIN.
154.
155. Not to be outdone, the TOLLIN records in Philadelphia and Delaware were also quite detailed.
156.
157. Long ago, when I was attempting to track down Mogilev-origin Tollins, I thought I was on the right track with Aron Tollin. However, he told me they were really Tolchinsky. The family's petition for a name change was one of the records in the results, confirming his story.
158.
159. Where else can you access this paper? The Newark Public Library also has copies, as does the Jewish Historical Society of MetroWest. The memories last a lifetime.
164.
165. Even those who only spent long weekends or a week here or there at various youth organization activities went home imbued with a sense of camaraderie, new knowledge and singing essential songs together.
166.
167. The National Yiddish Book Center offers an interesting look at Jewish summer camps. There are videos of oral history interviews, links to the full interview texts and to the Wexler Oral History Project.
168.
169. Summer camps, then and now, play an important role in identity for American Jews. Various studies of camps - such as one on the Conservative movement's Ramah system of camps - indicate that children who attend Jewish summer camps develop a much stronger identity with their heritage and also are more likely to become leaders in their communities and to maintain a more Jewish lifestyle.
170.
171. According to the Yiddish Book Center's link:
172. Among the camps mentioned:
173.

The Sholem Aleichem Folks Institute, known for its commitment to Yiddish literature, founded Boiberik in 1923.

 174.
Camp Kinderland was founded and was eventually associated with the Ordn Shuln with communist leanings. (The photo above left is of Kinderland)

 175.
The Workmen's Circle founded their socialist summer camp, Kinder Ring.

 176.
The Farband, Labor Zionists, created Kinderwelt around the same time.

 177.
Camp Hemshekh was the Bund's summer camp, founded in 1959 by Holocaust survivors.

 178.
Kinderland and Kinder Ring still exist but in different locations.
179.
180. As everyone who has ever attended a Jewish summer camp knows, each was its own world with its own family. Shared experiences with social values, fun, Jewish culture, shows, plays, camp songs and Shabbat ceremonies all contributed to "family" life. And everyone thought that their camp was the best of all of them.
181.
182. The Wexler Oral History Project interviewed campers of diverse ages about their summer experiences, including friendships, memories, values and loves.
183.
184. 186. Learn more here on the Wexler Oral History Project.
187.
When it came to choosing a camp for your children, there were a number of factors to weigh: language, socio-political views, location, and cost. Many New York Yiddishist organizations created summer camps to help people get out of "The Big City" for the summer.

Family reunion contest: Winners named

<img border="0" height="200" m$="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PM3xErdQvP0/ThetLkwzfgI/AAAAAAAAC1U/r8f4Zd9jer8/s200/MyH_Logo-Hi-Res_Square_NEW-SMALL.jpg" width="189" />
When you read about contests, what do you do? Do you think you'll never win and forget about it?
188.
189. What if the grand prize is a free family reunion?
190.
191. For one lucky winner, her entry means she will soon meet with a cousin from Denmark, while two runners-up also received recognition for connections to family in South Africa and Norway.
192.
193.
MyHeritage.com and Family Tree Magazine partnered for the free family reunion contest in June.

194.

Winners were recently named in a post on the Family Tree Magazine blog.

196. She will also receive a year-long VIP membership to Family Tree Magazine and a three-year Premium-Plus subscription with MyHeritage.com.
197.
198. Skubis' Danish family immigrated to the US in 1888, while another branch had settled in Australia in 1873. Skubis made contact nearly three decades ago with someone from the down-under branch, but they couldn't find the connection.
199.
200. However, that was then, and today we have the power of technology.
201.
202. There will be more detailed coverage in a future issue of the magazine, but here's some of it.
203.
204. In March 2011, a Danish family researching THYGESEN posted information on MyHeritage.com and Skubis received a Smart Match notice. She wasn't sure about it because the parents' names were the same, but not the children. She asked for more details and was then able to confirm the match.
205.
206.
I went online to the Danish Church Records [on the Danish archives’ website] and found Tyge Jørgensen’s children between Neils Madsen Thygesen, born in 1794, and my great-great-grandfather Martin, born in 1805. What a great surprise I received when I found that the next son after Neils was Peder Andersen Thygesen, the great-great-grandfather of Alison Rogers.
207.
208. Tage and I are fourth cousins once removed. Our great-great-grandfathers, along with Alison’s, were brothers.
Runners-up were Linda Mehlinger and Pam Ingermanson, who will each receive a digital subscription to Family Tree Magazine and a three-year Premium-plus subscription on MyHeritage.com. Read some details at the link above about a Zulu warrior pulling five schoolgirls in a rickshaw and Norwegians in Idaho and Ohio.
209.
210. According to Diane Haddad of Family Tree Magazine:
211.
Thank you to everyone who entered this contest. Both our team at Family Tree Magazine and our contest partners MyHeritage.com were touched by your stories of reconnecting with family, and we're impressed by your diligent research. You’re truly an inspiration to your fellow family historians!
The next time you read about a family reunion contest, what will YOU do?

Southern California: "Genealogy in the Round," July 17

<img border="0" m$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BnF4Srp8qOE/THJAYqJu8mI/AAAAAAAACbg/0BTRqcDDyPU/s1600/TTT_logo_JGSCV.jpg" />
"Genealogy in the round: Share your successes, failures, artifacts and brick walls" is the theme of the next meeting of the Jewish Genealogical Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County (JGSCV), on Sunday, July 17.
218.
219. Each presenter will have 5-10 minutes to share, depending on the final number of presenters.
222.
223. The past few months have been filled with genealogy conferences in the UK, US and Canada.
224.
225. During June, we were at the Southern California Genealogical Society's Jamboree 2011 in Burbank, California, spoke on creating virtual ancestral communities and staffed the MyHeritage.com booth. Back home for a few days and then to Montreal where we spoke on Sephardic research at the Association of Jewish Libraries conference.
226.
227. With just a few days off between the two events, things began to quickly pile up! It didn't help that the flight home from Montreal took two somewhat chaotic days due to Chicago weather.
228.
229. Our new iPad received a good workout at both conferences! And when stuck at the Montreal airport with a non-functioning phone, the iPad was my link to civilization and friends who informed my husband of the various flight delays, cancellations, hotel stay, re-routing through Dallas and finally back to Albuquerque.
230.
231. This was the first time we have ever experienced weather-related flight delays and cancellations. Rather amazing considering the busy travel schedule these days and international travel of the past.
232.
233. We met some interesting fellow travelers sharing the chaos: A fascinating biomedical professor at University of Texas-Austin, a Vietnamese couple from Southern California and others. All in the same boat (or should that be plane?), we were given hotel rooms, asked to be rerouted through Dallas instead of Chicago, and shared a nice dinner at the Montreal Trudeau airport Sheraton.
234.
235. Family history research played its part with seatmates on the Burbank, Montreal, Dallas and Albuquerque flights and even with fellow airport shuttle passengers in Los Angeles and elsewhere. In Montreal, we spent a day with our Dardashti cousins before AJL began and, along with old friend and AJL attendee Barbara Krasner of New Jersey, enjoyed a short visit with our good friend Stan Diamond of JRI-Poland fame.
236.
237. We have finally read through what seems like thousands of emails and Google alerts, and we are coming back to blogging life once again. Still remaining to be tackled is a growing pile of books!
238.
239.
================

Future Events

================

240. --Sunday, July 17: Speaking on social media at the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society meeting at the Albuquerque Jewish Community Center.
241.
242. -- Saturday, August 6: The newly-formed Sandoval County Genealogical Society, which will meet the first Saturday of each month, at the Rio Rancho Main Library.
243.
244. -- August 14-19: IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy (August 14-19, Washington DC), where we will be speaking and staffing the MyHeritage.com booth, along with chief genealogist Daniel Horowitz and UK genealogy advisor Laurence Harris.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://tracingthetribe.blogspot.com/2011/06/blog-business-plane-plane.html' title='Blog business: The plane! 245.
246.
<img border="0" height="200" i$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h4lGg7d-8Fg/THTREfdk3qI/AAAAAAAACcY/waFUp5lgs80/s200/TTT_JGSWashingtonState.jpg" width="190" />
We are delighted to report that the newest $1,000 grant has been given to the Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington State (JGSWS), to allow the group to begin a digitizing project of the 120-year-old Jewish Transcript newspaper.
247.
248. Anyone with roots in Seattle or other Washington state communities will find a wealth of information on the Jewish community. JGSWS has wanted to work on this digitizing project for many years but did not have the resources to carry it out.
249.
250. Tracing the Tribe is especially interested to learn about our JASSEN family, which arrived in Seattle around 1923.
251.
252. The pages of this venerable publication contain community news; birth, marriage and death announcements, life cycle events and historical news. Currently, the issues are in bound volumes held in the Seattle Public Library. The goal is to digitize the pages and make the records searchable online and accessible to interested researchers around the world.
253.
254. For those researching Sephardic families, this publication will be of great interest as Seattle has one of the largest Sephardic communities in the US, with origins in Rhodes, Saloniki, and Turkey.
255.
256. According to the Archives.com blog post:
257.
Archives is pleased to contribute to this project which will clearly have a positive impact on anyone researching their family history in Washington State.
258.
259. JGSWS President Nancy Adelson notes, "Because of this grant, Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington State will be able to start an important project that we've wanted to do for over seven years... Thank you so much for choosing us and our project! I can't tell you how much this means to the members of JGSWS and how it will help make Jewish genealogical research a bit easier."
For more information on JGSWS, view its website.
268. Sounds like a great program! If you'll be visiting Orlando's many tourist attractions at this time - and get a bit tired of cartoon characters - this might be a good way to spend a very useful few hours.

San Francisco: Publishing your family history, June 26

269. Publishing your family's history will be the topic at the next meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society, on Sunday, June 26.
270.
271. Doors open at 12.30pm; the program begins at 1pm, at the Oakland Regional Family History Center, 4766 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland.
272.
273. Jeff Lewy will present "Book 'em, Dano! Publishing Your Family's Story."
274.
275.
Learn how to create and publish a family history story without having to become a professional author first. Jeff Lewy will explain how he wrote down the family stories he acquired from others, added old photos, filled in some of the gaps with his own research, and used an online publisher/printer to create an inexpensive book his relatives are buying and telling others about. Learn how helpful it can be for your family research: documenting the family history, attracting other family members to share what they know, and sparking interest among younger family members to learn bout their family history.
Treasurer of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society (SFBAJGS), Lewy became interested in genealogy to make sense of family photos going back four generations in the U.S. and Europe and to learn about the people in the photos.
276.
277. Most of his family lines arrived in the U.S. in the 1840s and 1850s, mostly in Alabama, before settling in Chicago by 1870. His family tree now includes seven or more generations for most of his families.
286.
287.
Kahn will provide an overview of the history of Hungary's Jewish community and discuss resources available to those researching roots from the current and former territory of Hungary, including archival records in Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, and Hungary and sources such as burial and military records.
288.
289. She will describe and provide tips for searching JewishGen's All Hungary Database - with close to a million records about individuals living in areas today in present-day Hungary as well as Slovakia, Croatia, northern Serbia, northwestern Romania, and subcarpathian Ukraine.
290.
291. In addition to describing the resources incorporated in that database, she will discuss some of the Hungarian SIG's current projects and identify other online resources.
Coordinator of JewishGen's Hungarian Special Interest Group (H-SIG), Kahn also moderates its discussion group. 292.
293. Along the way, she has helped others investigate their roots, and become familiar with the wide range of resources available for learning about Jewish families from present-day Hungary as well as Slovakia, Romania and Trans-Carpathian Ukraine.
294.
295. She also serves as JewishGen's Vice President for SIG Affairs.
296.
297. Enjoy brainstorming about genealogical questions before and after the program. Light kosher refreshments will be served.
Now, she's launched a new website with many improvements.
343.
344. Here's some of the press release:
345.
346.
Cyndi's List is proud to announce a newly upgraded web site. With improved navigation, a custom database, and a custom administrative interface, the upgrade means that everything will be quicker and easier for both visitors and for the site's owner and administrator, Cyndi Ingle Howells. The upgrade has been done by fusionSpan of Maryland. Their staff worked closely with Cyndi to make improvements and to implement new technology and new ideas designed specifically for Cyndi’s List and for the genealogical community.
Part of the upgrade - 20% - was made possible by donations from generous users of the site. Donors have been listed on the web site.
347.
348. What's new:
349.

The front page of the Cyndi's List site has a rolling genealogy news feed and a link to The Cyndi’s List Daily, a daily dose of family history news as tagged in Twitter and Facebook. Start each day with the front page of Cyndi's List and read the current genealogy news stories.

 350.
The links are now contained within a database and pages will be dynamically loaded on each visit.

 351.
The custom database and administration interface means that maintaining the link list will be much easier for Cyndi, which ultimately benefits the user with faster and more frequent updates.

 352.
The new interface means that the backlog of uncategorized links can be processed much faster. The goal is to get the entire backlog done by the end of this year.

 353.
New links will be reviewed, approved, and categorized within 24-72 hours after submission by visitors.

 354.
Updates made to Cyndi's List will be immediately available to the public.

 355.
Previous to the upgrade, the "What's New" page and mailing list post contained only new links submitted by visitors. The new "What's New" page and e-mail will contain those, as well as links added to the site during the day by Cyndi, *and* existing links that have been updated throughout the site (new addresses, updated descriptions, etc.).

 356.
Across the site links have been labeled with graphics as "new" or "updated" when appropriate. With the upgrade these will now be text-based notations (easily spotted in green), which means that you can search on a page for "new" or "updated" with the Edit>Find function in your web browser.

 357.
Now sub-categories within a category heading each have their own page. And each page displays 20 links, with pagination in place to go to the next page and so on. This means there will be a lot less scrolling through long pages as in the past. Shorter pages mean faster load time in the browser as well.

 358.
Intuitive navigation at the top of the category makes it easy to find your way to previous category headings.

 359.
The number of links within each category/sub-category is displayed at the top right on each page.

 360.
Each of the U.S. counties (more than 3,100) now has a designated page of its own.

 361.
URLs (addresses) for the pages have changed so bookmarks, favorites, and links to Cyndi's List will need to be updated.

 362.
Opportunities to shop, support, or donate are highlighted on each page.

 363.

What's the same:
364.

The category and sub-category names are all the same.

 365.
Related Categories are highlighted at the top right on each category.

 366.
The layout and format of the links are the same.

 367.
The policies, procedures, and disclaimers for maintaining the link list are the same.

 368.
The Cyndi's List Mailing List will still distribute a daily What's New e-mail and a daily Link Activity e-mail. However, the What’s New e-mail will contain information about all new and updated links.

 369.
You can still follow Cyndi's List on Facebook and Twitter.

 370.
The purpose and intent of Cyndi's List is to be a free jumping-off point for your daily genealogical research.

 371.
Cyndi’s List remains free for everyone to use just as it has for the past 15 years.

 372.
This is still just a one-woman show!

 373.
About CyndisList.com
374.
CyndisList.com is the world's largest one-woman family history resource, with more than 300,000 categorized links for genealogical research. For more than 15 years Cyndi's List has helped hundreds of thousands of people with their online journey to trace their family history. The site averages 275,000 unique visitors and 5,000,000 page hits every month. Cyndi's List has won numerous awards and consistently remains one of the top genealogical portals for beginners, intermediate, and veteran researchers.
Cyndi has long been on Tracing the Tribe's "go-to" list. The upgrade will make it much easier and more relevant for both researchers and suppliers of relevant information.

Poland: MyHeritage acquisition of Bliscy.pl will help researchers

Readers searching their Polish ancestry should be delighted by the latest MyHeritage.com acquisition of Bliscy.pl from Wirtualna Polska S.A., strengthening its leadership in the family history market and expanding its international community of users.
401.
402. This week's topics include Jewish genealogy (two!), individual family history, California, vendor, education, professional genealogist, New York, African-American, Canada, geographic and cemetery.
403.
404. Here are some highlights of the new finds:
405.
406. A Jewish Genealogy Journey
407. Individual family history, Jewish genealogy
408.
409.
I have been researching my family history since before 1990. See my family history blog at From Maine to Kentucky for my ancestry. I’ve found my husband’s recent ancestors in New York, New Jersey and Ohio. However, because all of his immigrant ancestors are Jewish and came through Castle Garden or Ellis Island, it has been a different kind of genealogy journey. I have decided to create a separate blog to share my findings of his ancestors.
410.
411. If you want to share anything about common ancestors, contact me at elizhandler -at- gmail.com.
Eliyahu’s Branches
412. Individual family history, Jewish genealogy
413.
414.
Chaim Freedman is updating his database of descendants of the Vilna Gaon and his siblings, published in his book ”Eliyahu’s Branches – the Descendants of the Vilna Gaon and His Family” (Avotaynu 1997).
415.
416.
417. "In the light of additional material received from many families and with resource to new archival records which were not available when my book was published, I am reassessing the data.
418. I invite those, whose families appear in my book, to send updates of children born since the book’s publication twelve years ago, and any corrections. I would also like to hear from all families who hold a tradition of a relationship with the Gaon."
Alvispat's WebBlog
419. Individual family history (ALVIS, PATTERSON and more)
420.
421. Apprentice Genealogist
422. Individual family history
