  28. <description>北栅子：位于赤城县城北100公里，南到独石城10里,西到西栅子3里,东到东栅子7 里,村北既是长城和水关和附墙墩台，口外2里是沽源县的乔家店村；赤城至沽源的公路从村东穿过。北栅子口是明代的独石台，明宣德五年（1430年）初，明朝经济实力，弃地300里，将开平卫由内蒙古正蓝旗元上都移至独石城，控驭制南北，成为京师前沿，而北栅子则是独石城防御的前沿阵地及咽喉要道。独石协左、右营分营防守，这在张家口地区长城关口的防务中是极少见的。《畿辅通志》曰：北栅子，在独石口城北，为边门大口。东至万胜楼五里二百余步，西至镇冲 ……
