Roman Reigns says the choice was “very clear” in the United States 2024 Presidential Election.

Vanity Fair interviewed Roman Reigns a couple of months ago when he was preparing for WWE Royal Rumble 2025. The United States of America’s 2024 presidential election was brought up during that conversation. Here’s what Roman (referred to by his real name Joe Anoa’i) had to say about supporting the winner of that election, President Donald Trump.

“Anoa’i is a registered Democrat, but he considers himself a centrist. In the most recent election, however, he says the choice was ‘very clear.’

‘One person was giving us information. One person was answering questions, so it wasn’t that hard,’ he says.

When I ask if that means that he backed Trump, Anoa’i pauses for a few seconds.

‘I support our president. Trump is one of those guys where he’s got a vast history and a huge background. He’s been in entertainment. He’s been in big business, politics,’ Anoa’i says. ‘At this point, I’m supporting a bright future for our country. Positive and competent leadership. For us to be what we’re supposed to be—to be a world leader and carry that respect and do what a world power like us should be doing.’

Anoa’i doesn’t back everything the president does, like his penchant for nursing grievances against political rivals. ‘It’s like he needs that adversary,’ he says. ‘He needs that opposition to bounce off of. He needs that competitive motivation or something.’ Trump’s pugilistic approach, of course, is not unlike WWE’s own template. It’s why, in the Trump era, wrestling has been held up as a Rosetta stone for understanding modern politics.

‘To be honest,’ Anoa’i says, ‘the world seems to be more like wrestling than any other form of entertainment.’

Like Roman, I also support competent leadership and a bright future in the USA, but it’s been “very clear” for the last decade that Trump offers the opposite of those things.

There’s no need to beat around the bush here or pretend like what Trump is doing right now is acceptable behavior for a United States President. Trump made it clear that he would try to be a dictator on day one, and most of his actions since then are consistent with that goal of shitting on the US Constitution, consolidating power around him, and punishing his political enemies.

For example, Trump is openly defying US courts in deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador without due process and making zero effort to bring him back. He’s turning on our global allies and aligning with vile dictators like Russia’s Vladimir Putin while making up blatant lies about Volodymyr Zelenskyy starting the war in Ukraine. He’s creating a domestic and global economic crisis with his worldwide plan for tariffs that makes no mathematical sense. Trump is enthusiastically trying to ruin the lives of transgender people and take away their fundamental rights. He’s putting critical US institutions like the FBI, the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Health and Human Services under the leadership of extreme wackos, unqualified and incompetent blind loyalists, or some combination of all of these things. The list goes on and on.

The thing is, it was also “very clear” that Trump was going to behave like this and introduce this much volatility and chaos into so many people’s lives and the economy, because he campaigned on doing most of these things. Way too many congressmen, corporations, and law firms are bending a knee to Trump’s lawless tactics, which is disturbing to watch. He’s been on the job for roughly three months now, and the trainwreck is just getting started.

I don’t know if Roman Reigns would give the same answer to this question today as he did when he was interviewed over two months ago. In normal times I probably wouldn’t even be writing this article on my blog when WWE’s top star expresses support for the sitting US president, because once the campaign is over and a new administration is in office, it’s an admirable goal to want to bring people together. But we are definitely not in normal times. Therefore my response to Roman Reigns saying he supports President Trump is to say that what this pathetic dictator wannabe is doing is disgraceful and completely unacceptable.

What’s your response to Roman Reigns’ support of Donald Trump? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.

Part four of our weeklong WrestleMania Stock Report series about how the talent on WWE’s biggest show of 2024 have fared in the year since, this time with a judgment on a Judgment Day championship run.

Welcome to the WrestleMania stock report. This five-part series looks back at everyone on the WrestleMania 40 card (along with a handful of stars who missed last year’s Showcase of the Immortals but are in the line-up for this weekend’s WrestleMania 41) and what they’ve been doing since to make a determination of whether they’re in a better position in April 2025 than they were in April 2024. Was it a good year? Was it a down year? Are they the definition of Even Steven?

We dove more into my approach to the WrestleMania Stock Report in Monday’s part one and you can check that out if you want more details. But otherwise, it’s pretty self explanatory so we can jump right in.

Drew McIntyre def. Seth Rollins (c) to win the World heavyweight championship

Damian Priest def. Drew McIntyre (c) to win the World heavyweight championship

Seth Rollins
PLE overall record (1-3), one on one (1-0), championship (0-1)

We may be getting into a territory where Seth Rollins stock won’t change much year-to-year. He’s a multiple time champion, he’s been in the company over a decade, and he’s ultra reliable. This year didn’t do much to make us think differently.

After WrestleMania 40, he took some time out to rest his body as he was working hurt.

He returned for a Money in the Bank clash with Damian Priest for the world heavyweight title he lost at ‘Mania. While he kind of won (that was the match with the non-kick out at 3), he didn’t actually win given the subsequent Drew McIntyre cash-in and CM Punk interference.

An attack from Bronson Reed would write him off for awhile, which is a bit of a theme. Seth has a lot of bumps on his card and fewer matches makes sense. He would split matches with Reed.

Seth Frickin’ reignited his feud with CM Punk, which was put on hold last year when Punk got hurt. They fought on the first Netflix Raw and Punk won. But that wasn’t it. They continued to feud, and now Roman Reigns is involved given his common history with both men.

He was champion last year but he’s not this year. But he is still main eventing Night One of WrestleMania 41. Yes that’s because he’s still involved with Roman, but he’s the same level of guy that he was last year.

Best Moment: Picking up a win against CM Punk, even though it was thanks to Reigns
Worst Moment: Getting squashed (literally) by Bronson Reed

Stock: Unchanged

Drew McIntyre
PLE overall record (2-6), one on one (1-3), championship (0-2)

Win or lose, I think it’s time to admit it’s Drew McIntyre’s world and we’re just living in it.

The Scotsman was in what I’d argue was WWE’s best feud throughout the past year, and that was his feud with CM Punk. That piece of business continued through Punk’s injury to Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood in October.

In Philly last year, McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins to win the world heavyweight title, but gloating too much in front of Punk led to a beating and Priest’s cash in.

Drew had the chance to right his Clash at the Castle wrongs by winning the title in his native Scotland, but Punk prevented that. McIntyre responded with a brutal beatdown of Punk in his hometown of Chicago. Punk responded by thwarting McIntyre’s Money in the Bank cash in

When Punk was finally cleared, they’d have a trio of matches. Drew only took the first one at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins as special referee. Punk won a strap match in Berlin and the violent Hell in a Cell payoff in Atlanta.

Drew would win some/lose some until the Royal Rumble when Damian Priest eliminated him. Priest also eliminated him in the Elimination Chamber, taking any chance of a title victory at WrestleMania away from McIntyre.

That set-up the match with Priest this coming weekend. And it’s a fine match that makes perfect sense given what went down the past 12 months. But it also feels like Drew could, and probably should, be doing more given the year (years really) he’s had.

He’s on the top of his game and continuing to do great work. We’re at a point he should be winning a title next year.

Best Moment: Winning the title, albeit only for a couple minutes, at WrestleMania
Worst Moment: Losing his feud to his hated enemy

Stock: Mildly down (but it being Drew, he’ll be just fine)

Damian Priest
PLE overall record (5-4), one on one , championship (3-2), one on one (3-2)

Priest’s Money in the Bank cash in and title victory was a very exciting moment to kick off Night Two of WrestleMania 40. But as soon as it happened, the spotlight on Priest got brighter. He a good talent but was he championship ready? The next few months would let us know.

Unfortunately, the former Punishment’s title run was booked in a way that he was never strong. My man walked ass backwards into almost every successful defense. Let’s take a look quickly:

Defeated Jey Uso at Backlash due to (unwanted) Judgment Day interference

Defeated Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle due to CM Punk interference

Defeated Seth Rollins & Drew McIntyre at Money in the Bank (cash in) due to CM Punk interference

This last one was the match he failed to kick out of a pin attempt in, BTW.

After that he’d lose that title to Gunther at SummerSlam... but to be fair, he lost due to Finn Bálor’s betrayal. That actually protected him more while losing the belt than he ever was with it.

The betrayal and subsequent eviction from Judgment Day led to a feud with Bálor (often with Terror Twin Rhea Ripley at his side). That allowed him to get some of the heat back that he lost as champion.

He’d eventually earn another chance to face Gunther and lose again, again due to Finn Bálor. He’d finally defeat Bálor once and for all before moving to SmackDown.

From there, Damian eliminated McIntyre from the Royal Rumble and pinned him in Elimination Chamber, putting him in the crosshairs of the Scottish Psychopath.

Again, it makes sense and will be a good match. But the fact there are folks who think this match is beneath Drew kind of tells you where Priest has landed on the card after his title run, and that’s the upper midcard.

It’s not a bad place to be and he is a good talent who will have his moments. But I’d be surprised if he wins another top title.

Best Moment: His WrestleMania cash in
Worst Moment: Not kicking out against Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank

Stock: Dropped

The Pride def. the Final Testament

The Pride (Bobby Lashley & the Street Profits)
Bobby Lashley PLE overall record (0-0), AEW PPV (2-0)
Street Profits (0-0)

The funny thing about this match is half the guys in it are no longer with the company.

On The Pride side, that’s Bobby Lashley, who pretty much done in WWE after this. His contract wasn’t renewed and he went to AEW to reform the Hurt Business with MVP and Shelton Benjamin.

That left the Profits on their own. Their first half of this year wasn’t auspicious. They feuded with Bloodline 2.0 for awhile before getting more involved in the SmackDown tag scene, which creative started to focus on more.

While they’ve teased heel, they’ve never gone that way, though their personalities are a bit tougher. They recently claimed the tag titles on the blue brand by defeating DIY and are the reigning champions.

They won’t get another shot at WrestleMania with their match being on SmackDown the night before, but they are in a slightly better place than they were last year. The tag team scene in general... well you could argue about that stock all you’d like.

For the Profits only really, since this isn’t about AEW...

Best moment: Winning the tag titles in a pretty stacked SmackDown tag division
Worst moment: Getting left in the wind after Lashley left, which usually leads to some meandering

Stock:
Bobby Lashley: Expired contract
Street Profits: Given the tag scene is a bit stronger on SD and the Pride never got off the ground, I’m going mildly increased

Final Testament (Karrion Kross & the Authors of Pain)
PLE overall record for all of them (0-0)

Not a busy year for these guys either.

Much of the story for the Testament, and then Karrion Kross alone, involved his attempts to corrupt folks. And to be fair, he’s rather successful. He got in the ear of Xavier Woods and it led the New Day heel turn. He had the same effect on Miz. He wasn’t as successful with Sami Zayn, and his attempts with AJ Styles are yet to be seen.

Their real feud was with the Wyatt Sicks, which they shockingly won. And right after that, the Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering were released.

Best Moment: Defeating an at that point rather dominant-looking Wyatt Sicks
Worst Moment: Spending much of his year in backstage segments

Stock: for Karrion Kross — Given he’s relegated to backstage segments, even if they can be entertaining, his stock is decreased; for AOP — Released

Logan Paul (c) def. Randy Orton & Kevin Owens to retain the United States championship

Logan Paul
PLE overall record (0-4), championship (0-2), one on one (0-2)

Logan Paul is the prototypical part-time guy who will get his moments without traditionally earning them.

He was given a match against Cody Rhodes for the WWE title in Saudi Arabia, where he was unsuccessful in claiming the top prize. At SummerSlam, he was also unsuccessful in defending the United States title he retained at WrestleMania 40, dropping that to LA Knight.

Then he got six months off before working the Rumble and Elimination Chamber. He gets a match against future Hall of Famer AJ Styles. It’ll be a good match.

Best Moment: Getting a main event title shot
Worst Moment: LA Knight invading his pool

Stock: He’s a preferred part timer. Unchanged

Kevin Owens
PLE overall record (1-4), one on one (1-2), championship (0-2)

This was a strong year for Kevin Owens that unfortunately ended with some bad news.

His first half of the year was as a babyface, which was fine but not his true form. He did some more Bloodline (Solo’s Version) feuding. But things started to pick up with his first title match against Cody Rhodes. That time at Bash in Berlin, a reluctant Kevin didn’t target Rhodes’s injured knee.

However, the champ’s alliance with Roman Reigns sent KO, a perpetual Bloodline enemy, over the edge. He attacked the champ in a viral moment after Bad Blood, gave Randy Orton the forbidden piledriver, and received another title match against Cody at Saturday Night’s Main Event, failing to win but stealing the prized Winged Eagle title.

Their feud ended in a brutal ladder match at Royal Rumble before Owens turned his focus in a familiar direction — Sami Zayn. That led to another brutal match against his long term friend/enemy at Elimination Chamber.

His final stop of the year was to be a match against Orton, bringing their story full circle — facing each other again at ‘Mania, but this time as enemies. It was another year where KO was featured heavily and this time had a year long arc that let him maximize his potential as a bad guy.

Unfortunately, it was recently diagnosed that KO has a neck injury that needs surgery that could cost him a year or more.

Best Moment: Getting to carry around the Winged Eagle
Worst Moment: The injury of course

Stock: Injured (but would have been increased if that didn’t happen)

Randy Orton
PLE overall record (0-4), one on one (0-2), championship (0-1)

Randy Orton is Randy Orton. At this point, unless he gets a 15th world title win (which we may never see) his position as a future Hall of Famer who wrestles part time won’t change.

His journey this year took him to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament, where he lost to Gunther. Unfortunately, controversy struck again at the finish because the Viper’s shoulders were not pinned to the mat. Because of that, Randy was first in line when Gunther won the world title, but the ending was the same.

Orton also teamed up with Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens to fight the lesser Bloodline, which is of note because that led to a story involving the three of them that was to go all the way to ‘Mania for Orton vs. KO.

After KO turned on Cody because the champ teamed with Roman Reigns, he also targeted Randy for trying to smooth things over. That includes a piledriver that took Randy out of action until February.

Unfortunately, his match with Kevin won’t happen to due to Kevin’s injury, but they’ll likely find something or him.

Best Moment: RKO-ing everyone in his EC return
Worst Moment: Getting screwed in the KOTR final

Stock: Unchanged (again, it’s Randy Orton)

You can catch up with what we’ve done so far here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Tomorrow we’ll bring it home as we question if winning the WWE title actually decreased Cody Rhodes’ stock.

Triple H says Jey Uso is big box office and one of the rare wrestlers who has ‘it’

Triple H explains why Jey Uso is getting such a big push on the road to WrestleMania 41.

Jey Uso’s Royal Rumble win in February was a truly shocking moment, and there was immediately some online backlash about WWE giving him the spotlight of a world title chase on the road to WrestleMania 41. Many of the critics think Jey’s push is all about the popularity of his “Yeet” catchphrase and his interactive entrance with the live fans, but then he’s nothing special when the bell rings to start the actual match.

Triple H runs WWE creative and is aware of this criticism, but he told Peter Rosenberg that ring work doesn’t matter nearly as much as forming a special connection with the audience.

“A lot of people think, and there’s a lot of criticism of this, that it’s just the in-ring product, it’s just the how technically good of a wrestler you are. Make me a list of the greatest performers in this business, and that list will be two-thirds people that were worse than the majority of the list of great workers that didn’t get to the top.

Jey has great athletic ability, and the things he does in the ring he does well. Is he the most technical guy here? No. Is he the greatest performer on the face of the earth in-ring? No. But he has a charisma and a likability that he lets people in, and they want to see him succeed.

So, when you walk into a building with 10 thousand, 30 thousand, or 60 thousand [people], and he walks out, and that whole place is doing his entrance with him, and is hanging on everything he does, and are hanging on his words, and are hanging on his moments, that’s what it takes to be a top guy. It’s about box office, and Jey is proving what he said he was, which is ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso, whether some people like that or not. Right?

There are people like GUNTHER that believe the in-ring is what matters. So, he’s either going to beat the entertainment out of Jey Uso, or Jey Uso is going to survive all of that and prove that the box office is where it’s at.”

Triple H thinks Jey is a lot more than just a catchphrase, because he is one of the rare wrestlers who has “it.”

“It’s his emotion. When he is in that crowd doing his entrance, you can see he’s not going through motions. He is in it with them. He’s in it with that kid that’s standing next to him that’s doing that with him. He’s living for that moment. Win, lose, or draw at WrestleMania, that’s his moment. That connection with that crowd will be his moment, and very few people have it. Again, go through some of the greatest in this business of all-time, very few people have a connection like that with the crowd. He just has ‘it’, and he’s on his own able to show it. And at WrestleMania, we’ll see if he can put his money where his mouth is.”

I’m not the right person to talk to when it comes to sports debates about “it,” because relying on “it” always seems like a lazy way to get out of finding a good argument that is grounded in actual evidence. You think your favorite wrestler is better than mine? Well, uh, my favorite wrestler clearly has “it” and yours doesn’t, so take that! Essentially any position can be argued using such an approach.

In the case of pro wrestling, it can be very frustrating when a popular wrestler isn’t pushed harder simply because the booker’s gut instinct says he doesn’t have “it.” It can be equally maddening when a wrestler is not getting over but is still being shoved down my throat because the booker stubbornly clings to the notion that he has “it.”

The thing is, you don’t even need to resort to “it” when explaining why Jey Uso is in this position at WrestleMania 41. I personally think it’s a very cool thing that Jey won the Royal Rumble and is challenging GUNTHER for the world title on the big stage; all you have to do is watch any Jey Uso entrance to see and hear the clear tangible proof for how over he is with WWE fans. The fans absolutely love him, and that’s why he’s receiving this push. That’s ideally how it should work in pro wrestling.

Do you agree with Triple H’s comments about Jey Uso’s box office star power? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.

Roman Reigns reveals his timeline for leaving pro wrestling, and the clock is ticking

Roman Reigns talks about when his WWE contract expires and his plan to stop taking bumps on a ring mat for a living.

Roman Reigns has dominated WWE’s main event scene for the last decade, but it sounds like he has a plan to stop wrestling for good relatively soon.

Roman’s part-time schedule with WWE means he’s already been winding down his workload in the ring over the last couple of years. Per the data at CageMatch, he went from wrestling in 52 total matches in 2022 to just 11 matches in 2023, and six matches in 2024. Keeping up that pattern, Roman is scheduled to compete in just his third match of 2025 this Saturday night (Apr. 19) at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the Tribal Chief (referred to by his real name Joe Anoa’i) revealed that his current WWE contract expires after WrestleMania 42 in 2026, and he doesn’t intend to stick around for long beyond that. Here is the publication’s excerpt on this topic:

“Anoa’i will turn 40 in May, as evidenced by the faint streaks of gray in his long dark hair and beard. He is wary of his ‘bump card,’ the number of knocks a wrestler absorbs before he can no longer step in the ring. There are, it seems, only so many times a guy can take a metal chair to the back. Anoa’i’s current deal with WWE expires after WrestleMania next year, and he admits that he is closer to the end than the beginning. ‘After I finish the contract that I’m in, we probably got another year or two max,’ he says. ‘Then it’s time to take on a less physical form of entertainment.’”

That timeline means Reigns could wrap up his in-ring career by WrestleMania 44 in 2028, at the latest. Perhaps a career in acting and Hollywood will be calling for Roman at that point, just like it did for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“Soon, WWE will have to turn to a new top guy to put people in the seats, as Anoa’i begins to eye his post-WWE career. It is not difficult to envision Anoa’i, who is jacked and bears a resemblance to Jason Momoa, carving out a movie career as an action star or superhero. ‘He’s a physical specimen,’ says David Leitch, the director of Hobbs & Shaw, who is reportedly in talks to direct Ocean’s 14, with George Clooney and Brad Pitt. ‘The camera loves him, the audience loves him, and the only thing standing in his way is his own ambition.’

Anoa’i receives a lot of scripts, but his WWE responsibilities have precluded him from taking many roles. When the time comes for him to fully pursue acting, Anoa’i plans on being selective. ‘I almost want to model it after Tarantino, where we’re not just doing anything and everything. I want to really plot out: I want this one, I want that one,’ Anoa’i says.”

Roman has been so successful in WWE that he can pretty much call his shot and leave anytime he wants, especially if the goal is to preserve his body rather than continue to repeatedly fall down on a ring mat for a living.

Do you think Roman Reigns’ WWE career in the ring will really be over in about three years from now? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.

MJF couldn’t buy his way into The Hurt Syndicate with women or watches

That, and other clips from April 16’s record-setting Spring BreakThru episode of AEW Dynamite — right here.

Gates of Agony gave The Hurt Syndicate a heck of a fight in their AEW Tag title clash on the April 16 Spring BreakThru-edition of Dynamite, a fun battle featuring some meaty men doing you know what. The outcome was never in doubt though, and the champs retained after some impressive Shelton Benjamin suplexes and devastating Bobby Lashley spears.

It did serve as prelude for the next beat in the story about Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s quest to join Lashley, Benjamin, and Montell Vontavious Porter in the Syndicate. Last week, Shelton joined the All Mighty in giving MJF’s bid a thumbs down. So this week, Max showed up like a 2025 version of The Godfather.

The ladies didn’t sway Lashley’s vote (although Friedman’s attitude didn’t help any, either). Benjamin even got the watch off MJF’s wrist, and he still sided with his man Bob.

Later backstage, MVP made his own pitch to Lashley. He got the All Mighty to agree to “ease up” in exchange for saying they would handle MJF if he got out of line. Then they exited with the women Max hired for them.

Christian Cage returned to get Nick Wayne a title shot on Collision

The Patriarch attempted to mend fences by setting up an ROH TV title shot for his angry ‘son’. Plus, AEW’s Thursday night show gets a TNT title open challenge, and Harley Cameron!

Collision is on Thursday this week due to the NHL Playoffs (and a little show called WrestleMania 41), so AEW got busy booking April 17’s live show from Boston during April 16’s Dynamite from the same locale.

One of the championship matches booked for tonight brought Christian Cage back to AEW for the first time since shortly after his cash-in loss to Jon Moxley and Adam Copeland at Revolution. The Patriarch’s “son” Nick Wayne remains critical of Cage over what happened at that March PPV, and Wayne still bristled when Christian rejected his theory that he couldn’t bear to see Cope become champ before him as an assumption.

But they set their disagreements aside (kind of) as he told Nick securing the young man a spot in New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and got him a warm-up against one of the best Super Juniors (aka cruiserweights) in the world — an Ring of Honor Television champ Komander.

Two other matches were announced for Thursday night in the MGM Music Hall at Fenway. The TNT Championship Open Challenge is back, now with Adam Cole holding the belt.

More importantly, The Moné Wrath Train* is back! Mercedes Moné & Harley Cameron reunite to face the wrestler Moné beat in the first round of The Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Julia Hart, and one of her possible opponents in the finals at Double or Nothing, Kris Statlander (we also learned tonight that Stat will face Jamie Hayter in The Owen semis on next Wednesday’s Dynamite).

We’re not sure why AEW paired up Hart & Statlander, but we know they’re welcome to FEEL THE WRATH!

Sorry, got carried away.
