20.
AEW announcer Jim Ross has been realistic about his future since re-signing with the company last month. The 78 year old has been working as much as he can as he deals with a variety of health issues. While he’s taking it year-by-year, he recently shared that 2024 very well could mark the end of his legendary career.

 21.
On his Grilling JR podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer recently shared AEW head honcho Tony Khan’s plan for what could be Ross’ final year:

 22.

“Tony’s got me doing pay-per-views. At least that’s the plan today, and I hope it stays that way because I have something to look forward to. They’re big events. That card for St. Louis, my God. That son of a bitch is star-studded. man. It’s like a major major pay-per-view, which it’s what it is.”

 23.
“That card for St. Louis” is this Sunday’s Dynasty PPV. Ross also talked about that, which will be his first time calling AEW action since he called Sting’s last match at their Revolution PPV in early March. It sounds like JR will again be focused on the big, main event-level matches this weekend:

 24.

 25.
“I’m awfully excited about the big AEW pay-per-view this Sunday [in] St. Louis. I’ll be flying out there on Saturday. Excited about whatever my role will be. I’ll be happy with it. I feel like [the great New York Yankees closer Mariano] Rivera. I feel like I’m always in the bullpen. But I’ll come in, I’ll shut your ass down [in] the bottom of the ninth or get some outs, whatever.

 26.
“Nonetheless, I’m not sure what I’m gonna do. It doesn’t matter, it’s a wrestling match. So I always say that if you put the son of a bitch on the monitor, I can call it. I can describe what we’re seeing collectively. So it’s a pretty cool deal. I’m looking forward to going out there and participating with the team. It’s hard to believe I haven’t been working since Greensboro on-air, so fun deal. It’ll be good, a good show,”

 27.

 28.
You can hear JR call action on Dynasty if you order the show from Triller.TV, or one of the may other outlets offering this AEW PPV. 48.
Fire up the countdown clock. Time is ticking down until Nic Nemeth challenges Moose for the TNA World Championship at Rebellion on Saturday night (Apr. 20, 2024). In a final trash-talk session, Nemeth made it clear that it won’t be Dolph Ziggler in that ring.

 49.
During Impact (Apr. 18, 2024), Nemeth arrived to the ring for the final hype job. The Wanted Man had fun with the Philly crowd for a Sandman entrance with beer and a kendo stick.

 55.
 56.

 57.
The good times stopped once Moose interrupted his adversary. The champ tried his hand at head games. Nemeth was confident in his ability to win the world title, but what happens after? Moose pointed out Nemeth’s past with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. A football analogy was used. Nemeth carries the ball for a few yards then fumbles it away.

 58.
Moose’s critique struck a nerve with Nemeth. The challenge composed himself to fire back. Nemeth has heard the criticism throughout his career, and it even caused self-doubt. But that was then, and this is now.

 59.
Nemeth assured Moose that it would be a big mistake to assume he is the same as before. Nemeth is in the best shape of his life mentally and physically. It won’t be Dolph Ziggler in that ring at Rebellion. It will be Nic Nemeth beating Moose’s ass.

 66.

 67.
That promo session was a strong hype job to sell the main event of Rebellion. Nemeth gave his fans points to rally behind, and I’d like to think he piqued the interest of doubters as well to check out if he can really be a top guy. Of course, that’s if Nemeth is victorious. It is no small task to beat Moose, let alone for the TNA World Championship.

 113.
“After over a decade, my time with WWE has come to a close. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity over this period of time to focus on making art and I’m so lucky that doing so has brought so many wonderful people into my life. I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some the smartest and most capable people in their fields that I’ve ever met. Real friendships, people that I truly love, have been the result of this experience. And it brought you, the person reading this, into my life. How amazing is that?

 114.
“If you ever bought my art, if you ever came up to say hello at a show, if you ever just gave me a thumbs up on social media, thank you. Thank you for allowing my work into your life.

 115.
“This chapter has come to a close and a new one is about to begin that I’m genuinely excited about. The work never stops.”

 117.
Schamberger was essentially WWE’s in-house portrait artist over the past 10+ years. In addition to created work the company sold as posters and prints, he contributed art for their video games with 2K, and their licensed comic book. His work and process were also featured on WWE’s long-running “Canvas 2 Canvas” show on YouTube.

 118.
What’s next for Rob after WWE? While he frequently paints other sports and pop culture figures, Schamberger isn’t getting out of the wresting business. AEW’s online store started teasing a collaboration with him yesterday. Whatever it is will be announced on Monday after their Dynasty PPV.

The clues we’ve been given are reminiscent of the “White Rabbit” chase that preceded Wyatt’s 2022 return to WWE, and seem to fit with talk of Howdy being part of a group that would have been key to Bray’s story had we not tragically lost him last summer.

 147.
Matt Hardy, who worked closely with Wyatt when they were both with WWE in the 2010s and is currently a free agent after his AEW contract expired at the end of last month, generated a lot of speculation he might be headed back to WWE as part of Howdy’s group when he posted several clips of his work with Bray on social media this week.

 153.
 154.

 155.
Hardy was asked about those posts by his co-host Jon Alba on a new The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast:

 156.

 157.
“Yeah, I mean, full disclosure, I am doing what I should be doing as a free agent — creating hype around myself.

 158.
“Yes, I have been speaking with AEW, constantly. I’ve been speaking with WWE. I‘ve been speaking with several people across several different platforms. So I think the next couple weeks are gonna be fun, the next few weeks are gonna be fun. As I said before, I think we’re getting to the point where we’re gonna be doing some pretty cool stuff coming up.

 159.
“So yeah, I am doing what I should be doing. My job as a brand — and I have to look at myself as a brand, a lot of my social media stuff is Matt Hardy brand — my job as a brand is to promote myself and to create buzz around myself. And I feel like I do a... pretty decent job with it, whenever I am able to just freelance and do whatever.”

 160.

 161.
Alba & Hardy then discussed the various rumors surrounding a Howdy return and WWE apparently deciding to continue Wyatt’s story posthumously. They expressed many of the same concerns fans and pundits have about the idea, but Matt said he thinks there’s a lot of potential there as well. It’s something he’d be interested in being a part of, as is any opportunity to return to his “Broken” character. That’s because the gimmick is more “entertainment driven” and means Matt will be called on less to wrestle as the “Xtreme” version of himself that originally made him and his younger brother Jeff stars in the 1990s.

 162.
Regarding Broken Matt as part of the so-called Wyatt 6, Hardy already has some ideas in mind...

 163.

“If [Broken Matt’s drone sidekick] Vanguard-1 shows up and a hologram pops up, from here on out, the hologram — we can do in AI — it’s Bray Wyatt. And he is the one that is the mind of the group, and he is leading the group, he’s the beacon of light that carries things on. I think that’s something that’s very important, and I think would help make this a success as well.”

 164.
The fact Hardy is sharing this idea on his pod probably means WWE isn’t going to use it... which is a good call, at least in this writer’s opinion.

 165.
But let us know what you think, and whether you think Matt is headed to WWE, back to AEW (or maybe TNA?), in the comments below.

 184.
 185.
Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, visited Good Morning Britain as part of WWE’s visit to the United Kingdom this week. In addition to promoting a live event at the O2 Arena tonight (April 19), Rhodes talked about his story and the completion of that tale while sharing anecdotes about his father, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes.

 186.
Soon, the conversation turned to Hollywood and the wrestlers who have made their way to Tinseltown, such as Dave Batista, John Cena, and last but not least, The Rock, whose return to WWE is something the champ is looking forward to.

 187.
“He’s not my favorite person on Earth, The Rock,” said Rhodes. “But for me, it’s a sense where Hollywood kind of, I didn’t go to Hollywood, Hollywood has come to me in the form of The Rock Dwayne Johnson. And he’s got like, what we’d say... like a little obsession with me. So I await his return.”

 188.

 189.
On the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw, Rhodes and The Rock shared a tense moment in the ring where the Hollywood megastar said their story was just beginning. Rock added that even though he had to go away for a while to film a movie, upon completion, he would return to finish his business with Rhodes.

 190.
The American Nightmare was asked directly if that fight would happen. Rhodes said yes, but such a confrontation would probably be based on how well he performs as champion.

 191.
“I think it’ll really come down to, can I be a good champion, or, not even, a great champion. Roman Reigns was a great champion, and will that be enough to entice The Rock.”

 192.
Rhodes is confident that the momentum created by himself, Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley, and others could convince The Final Boss to return for another match. If it happens, it’s likely to occur next year. According to the news ticker on screen, Rhodes “could face rival ‘The Rock’ in 2025.”

 211.
 212.
Grayson Waller competed in his very first WrestleMania match at this year’s event, where he won the SmackDown tag team championship in a ladder match.

 213.
During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Waller explained why that win already makes him better than The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

 214.
Let’s see what his twisted chain of logic looks like, right from his own mouth:

 215.

 216.
“Question: Has The Undertaker lost at WrestleMania? He has. Has Grayson Waller lost at WrestleMania? No! Which means that I’m better than The Undertaker.

 217.
I think I’m the greatest WrestleMania competitor of all…has Shawn Michaels lost at WrestleMania? I haven’t lost at WrestleMania.

 218.
Dude, I think I’m the greatest WrestleMania competitor of all time. 1-0, championship...I couldn’t lose at WrestleMania. I don’t know what it feels like. I’ve never had to experience that ‘cause I’m undefeated at WrestleMania.”

 219.

 220.
Are you buying Waller’s dubious claim that people are already calling his undefeated WrestleMania record “The Streak 2.0”? Let me know what you think in the comments below, Cagesiders.

 240.
 241.
The Scottish Warrior can’t shake the ghosts of Clash at the Castle, The Bloodline, and CM Punk.

The memories of Cardiff and Clash at the Castle still send shivers down Drew McIntyre’s spine, haunting him with the bitter taste of unrealized dreams as Roman Reigns and the formidable Bloodline snuffed out his hopes of becoming a champion in front of fans and family in a crushing blow of defeat in 2022.

 242.
On Thursday (April 18), McIntyre had a chance to exorcise his demons as he faced Jey Uso, one of his former Samoan tormentors, in front of a packed house at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena.

 243.
Unlike Clash at the Castle, where he entered as the U.K.’s favorite son, McIntyre received a mixed reaction from the fans this time in Cardiff. When the nearly-sold-out crowd of 5,000 fans began taunting him with chants of CM Punk, McIntyre lost his cool and called for a microphone. That’s when McIntyre made a surprising revelation.

 244.
“I’m actually hurt,” said McIntyre while wearing an elbow pad on his right arm and clutching at his elbow. “But I’m still here because I’m not a big bitch like CM Punk.”

 245.

 250.
 251.

 252.
The severity of McIntyre’s injury is unknown at this time. However, he also wrestled the night before in Birmingham, England, against Uso while wearing an arm pad. However, whatever issue McIntyre may be dealing with wasn’t enough to keep him from performing at a high level either night.

 253.
As for McIntyre’s quest for redemption, he came up short against “Main Event” Jey for a second consecutive night during WWE’s current tour of the United Kingdom. For now, his pursuit of retribution against Bloodline members, past or present — like his feud with CM Punk — will have to wait.

 254.
However, with reports that there’s just a handful of weeks left on his WWE contract, the question becomes whether time will run out on the former multi-time world champion before he can tie up any loose ends in his WWE career. In the meantime, at least McIntyre’s antics on social media continue to be the highlight of any platform.

 280.
 281.
SmackDown airs tonight (Apr. 19) with a live show emanating from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is the second episode of SmackDown during the four week build towards Backlash, which takes place next month in France.

 282.
There’s already a new Tribal Chief in WWE

 283.
Roman Reigns is off TV right now, but The Bloodline drama remains the most interesting angle on WWE television.

 284.
Last week’s episode of SmackDown featured a major angle where Paul Heyman stressed there are consequences to winning and losing. Solo Sikoa took that message to heart, holding Jimmy Uso accountable for The Bloodline’s loss at WrestleMania by turning on his own brother and kicking him out of the group via repeated Samoan spikes. Sikoa replaced Jim with the debuting Tama Tonga.

 285.
Afterwards, Tonga told Heyman this was all done by orders of the Tribal Chief. However, it’s pretty clear from the wise man’s reaction (and from Sikoa stomping on his phone call to Roman) that Reigns isn’t the Tribal Chief who called this play. That very likely means there’s a power struggle coming to The Bloodline, with a new Tribal Chief looking to rise up and take over while Roman is away from WWE.

 286.
Right now it appears that Sikoa is the guy who is trying to assume power and fill those shoes, but who knows, maybe Tonga was referring to the Final Boss. Either way, it looks to me like there could be a Bloodline Wolfpac vs. Bloodline Black and White story coming out of this angle later this year.

 287.
As far as tonight’s SmackDown is concerned, I’d expect Sikoa and Tonga to continue last week’s destruction by taking out whoever is unlucky enough to stand in their way. Is Jimmy Uso in any condition to show up looking for revenge? Will Heyman reveal any information regarding Roman Reigns’ reaction to what Solo and Tama are doing in his absence? Is Jacob Fatu about to arrive in WWE?

 288.
Tonight’s card

 289.
There’s a WrestleMania rematch tonight when LA Knight goes one-on-one with AJ Styles. This rematch has higher stakes, because the winner becomes the number one contender to Cody Rhodes’ WWE Universal championship. Conventional booking says Cody should face a heel out of the gate, so Styles might just find an underhanded way to prevail over the megastar this time.

 290.
Bayley defends the WWE Women’s Championship for the first time since she won it from IYO SKY at WrestleMania. You can ignore that thing I just wrote about conventional booking, because Bayley’s first title defense is against her friend and fellow babyface, Naomi. Tiffany Stratton felt the glow last week when Naomi beat her to earn this title match, so maybe Tiffy Time will try to ruin this match. Either that, or Damage CTRL will resurface with evil intentions in mind.

 291.
Triple H replaced the Raw Tag Team Championship this week with the upgraded World Tag Team Championship. It’s logical to assume the same thing will happen tonight with current SmackDown Tag Team Champions Austin Theory & Grayson Waller. It’s only fair that they replace the blue straps with a shiny new WWE Tag Team Championship in its place.

 292.
Whether that happens or not, A-Town Down Under will have an official number one contender for their belts by the end of the night. That’s because General Manager Nick Aldis has booked a Fatal 4-way match between Street Profits, Authors of Pain, New Catch Republic, and Legado Del Fantasma.

 293.
Other stuff to keep an eye on

 294.
- It seems like Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill are sticking together as a team post-WrestleMania, so it’s just a matter of time until they win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

 295.
- Bron Breakker made quick work of that chump Cameron Grimes last week. Which jabroni is getting similar treatment opposite Bron tonight?

 296.
- Legado Del Fantasma denies having anything to do with the backstage attack on Dragon Lee on the eve of WrestleMania 40. Carlito is totally the culprit here, but nobody in the LWO can see it yet.

 297.
- What’s next for Bob Lashley after he failed to become the number one contender to the WWE Universal championship? Could he instead set his sights on YouTube douchebag Logan Paul’s United States championship?

 298.
- Kevin Owens and Randy Orton are two other babyfaces who need something to do for Backlash. Will they join forces for a little while longer to terrorize heels like Pretty Deadly?

 299.
- The WWE Draft begins on next week’s episode of SmackDown. Will WWE announce any new information or rules about the draft on tonight’s broadcast?

 300.
What will you be looking for on SmackDown?
