57.
Lake Castillon is the first artificial lake to be built along the Verdon river. 8 km in length, it stretches from Castellane to Saint-André-les-Alpes and covers an area of more than 1,200 acres. It is the second largest lake in the Verdon Valley, just after Lake Sainte-Croix.

 59.
Visually, Lake Castillon is quite different and is more reminiscent of the nearby Alpine lakes. Nestled in the heart of the Verdon National Park, this gorgeous, emerald coloured lake also offers a multitude of activities to do on your holiday.

 61.
For the sportier ones, there are many activity centres to choose from: canoeing, paddle boarding, motor boating or sailing from Castellane, Saint-Julien-du-Verdon or Saint-André-les-Alpes.

 62.

So he is proposing that any cell structure with the capacity to develop and give rise to a born human being should be regarded as an embryo.

 102.
Although the moral status of the embryo has been a crucial issue in public debates, what has emerged as being of paramount importance is the precise delimitation of what a human embryo is and its distinction from other similar entities. This is not just a semantic problem, but also a normative one that has significant practical implications for research.

 103.
In this respect, several scientific and technological advances in reproductive biology have forced a re-examination of the definition of human embryo in the last two decades. The possibility of generating human embryos through procedures other than fertilization, such as nuclear transfer, and the development of technologies that today make it possible to generate cell models capable of imitating embryonic structures have called into question the scientific term embryo, which has both ethical and legal repercussions.

 104.
“Technological developments sometimes create the need to rethink conceptual categories that were once taken for granted. Right now, it is no longer possible to maintain that an embryo is always and only the result of fertilization,” said Iñigo de Miguel-Beriain.

 105.
Together with Jon Rueda from the University of California-San Diego, and Adrian Villalba from the University of Granada, Iñigo de Miguel-Beriain has published a paper in which they reflect on different legal definitions of a human embryo and provide a solid definition from a legal perspective. “The paper proposes an alternative view in which any cell structure that has the capacity to develop and give rise to a born human being should be regarded as an embryo, and that this capacity should be the cornerstone on which the definition is built, as is already the case in some countries in fact, and as the Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled.”

 106.
“Our reflection aims to contribute towards consolidating a concept of embryo that is more capable of addressing the challenges posed by advances in biotechnology,” said the scientist.

 125.
Barcelona will organise the largest ever exhibition regatta of Catalan sailing boats. The exhibition will take place in September, with the show featuring Catalan sportsmen taking place at the same location where the participants of the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup will compete. A record number of about 300 sail boats are expected to take part.

 126.
A Catalan sail boat is a light catamaran-type vessel characterised by the absence of oars, rudder and jib (triangular sail).

 127.
The Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation works to promote a school and youth league of Catalan sail boats, which will be kept in the city as a legacy project.

 128.
This project aims to popularise sailing and, in particular, Catalan sail boats among young people.

This is a standard tool that uses a single methodology to analyse the gustatory, olfactory and visual properties of different types of wine from the 11 Catalan designations of origin, and which can easily be applied to other designations of origin.

 146.
For a wine to be awarded the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certification, it has to meet certain requirements (e.g. geographical, production, physico-chemical and sensory…). The European regulation establishing these conditions was renewed in 2013, and since then the sensory characteristics of each type of wine produced in a PDO must be explicitly stated in the specifications. The incorporation of this regulatory requirement entailed the need to set up laboratories and methods that would allow reliable sensory analysis of the gustatory, olfactory and visual characteristics of wines to be made, so that they could be verified by the corresponding competent body.

 147.
Given that sensory characteristics are perceived through the senses, one of the challenges facing the industry was to make the methods of analysis as objective as possible. And what was of interest at the same time was that a method did not have to be developed for each type of wine. In other words, that there should be a standard tool that could be used to evaluate different wine products. At that time it did not exist and, even today, no internationally harmonised method is used, unlike other products with designation of origin, such as virgin olive oil, for example.

 148.
In this context, in collaboration with the Catalan Institute of Vines and Wines (INCAVI) and the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has made a major contribution: it has developed a standard methodology for the sensory analysis of wine from the 11 Catalan designations of origin. When the project was launched in 2016, there was only one sensory analysis method in Spain.

 149.
It had been developed by the Laboratory of Sensorial Analysis of the University of the Basque Country (LASEHU) to analyse two specific types of wine: unoaked red wine from the Rioja Alavesa region and white Txakoli. “We had 37 types of wine grouped into 11 PDOs. So coming up with a model for each of them was not feasible; so we decided to propose a different strategy that was less specific to a particular type of wine,” explained Anna Gomis-Bellmunt, one of the authors of the study.

 167.
Julián Caeiro is musical director of the group Elegante Sport, which was invited to Andorra in the framework of the first Tango Festival.

 168.
Born in Buenos Aires, Julián Caeiro is a pianist, composer and arranger, specializing in Argentine tango. He studied music at the National Conservatory of Music “Carlos López Buchardo,” the Popular School of Music of Avellaneda and the National University of Lanus. He has toured in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Romania, USA, Japan, China, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, participating in major Argentinean and classical music productions.
169. We spoke to Julián about the evolution of tango, in both music and dance styles, and the band’s impressions of Andorra and its immediate plans:

 170.
“The first tango festival was held in Andorra. For a first festival, everything went perfectly. I was very impressed to see so many people passionate about tango.

 171.
It was our first time in Andorra, a very beautiful place with amazing people. I discovered a beautiful multicultural country full of diverse people, including my native Argentina. I hope to do the event again next year!

 172.
Now a few words about the origin of the name Elegante Sport.

 173.

 174.
It’s not a typical name for a tango band. If we talk about dressing style, Elegante Sport is a way of dressing with elegance while, at the same time feeling comfortable. Music is kind of eclectic – even contradictory. When we talk about the tango of Buenos Aires, we mean classical, academic tango. But there’s also a new wave, and we try to play both. We have a repertoire of milonga, elegant tango from the 40s, but we also have a “sportier” modern tango.

 175.
Here, in Andorra, you saw six musicians, a singer and two tango dancers… In this particular case, dancers from Barcelona were invited to Andorra. They listened to our music and decided they wanted to dance to it. It’s great when, at our concerts, we can work with artists from different countries to create an amazing show.

 176.
Currently, I compose a lot. I was born and live in Buenos Aires, and, for me, tango is a huge part of my culture – it’s my music. I like to compose and perform my own works, but I also like to play traditional tango. I’m not trying to change anything, but I think we should be able to listen to and discover new composers; otherwise, music will be like a museum.

 177.
For me, Astor Piazzolla was the main door to the world of tango, and I am very close to his way of thinking. But I also like Aníbal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Alberto Ginastera, Carlos Guastavino and Juan José Castro. They are my main authorities on Argentine music.

 178.
And now let’s talk about the evolution of tango. The tango used to be performed exclusively by men, so its striking characteristics, since long ago, are marked a “masculine” style of leading. But now we are experiencing a big wave of feminism in dance. We’ve moved away from the canon: the man leads and the woman follows. Now, the woman often leads the man.

 179.
As I said, there are more and more tango musicians with a new kind of tango. So far, this music is only to listen to, not to dance to. The next step is to create a dance for this type of tango music. But the truth is that dancers like to dance traditional tango.

 180.
What does tango symbolize for me? Well, it’s my way of expressing how I feel – it connects me to my roots.

 181.
We have new concerts coming up. On Sunday, we left Andorra. Our next destination is Barcelona, where we will take a break. Some musicians will go to Madrid; others to Birmingham in England. We will be split up for 10 days; then, we will perform in Grinoble, France, Milan, Venice, and other cities in Italy. Finally, we will finish in Geneva, Switzerland and in Innsbruck, Austria on the 5th of May.

 182.
Then, we will split up and I will go with other musicians to Romania, where we will stay for a month, performing with an Argentine singer, and then come back to Milan and finish the tour by playing some Astor Piazzolla concerts. For me, it will be two months and half trip. And for the whole band it, will be 25 days”.

You can also taste delicious Mediterranean cuisine, take part in sporting and cultural events and get lost in secluded corners. Here, we speak to Sant Antoni Town’s tourism councillor, Miguel Tur, who is passionate about the sea and judo, and is enamored with his hometown, Sant Antoni, a town you can’t help but fall in love with at first sight.

 200.
Interview: Irina Rybalchenko

 201.
The first question is: what does the word “Ibiza” mean?

 202.
Ibiza is a multicultural word, derived from the Phoenicians, Romans, Carthaginians, Moors and Christians. Translated, it is a kind of brotherhood among all cultures that came to this island.

 203.
How did the island develop? How did this musical culture, known today all over the world, originate?

 204.
The Romans used to use us as a place to produce the colour purple (very difficult to make), the Carthaginians for wine and the Phoenicians for oil. Here, in Sant Antoni, the first port of the Balearic Islands was born; today, it is the largest of them all.

 205.
Then there was a bad period: the Vietnam War and the post-war period…the population starved.

 206.
Ibiza was revived when the rich sons of America did not want to go to war and escaped here. And the whole tourist centre of the sixties was for them, the billionaire hippies who led a different lifestyle. The local islanders, thin and dressed head to toe (because the sun shone mercilessly), saw naked people on the beaches, enjoying life. Then, in the seventies, a very wealthy Pacha family – and a couple of other wealthy Catalan families – came to the island and created the concept of the island of music.

 207.
This image developed quickly, and Ibiza became the symbol of “fiesta.” All were brothers and sisters, even without knowing each other beforehand. This is what made the island special and known all over the world.

 208.
I say the Balearic Islands and people don’t always know where they are; but, I say Ibiza and they say: “oh yes, Ibiza.” And it’s because of the music!

 209.

 210.
Who are your tourists today?

 211.
Eight years ago, 100% of Sant Antoni’s tourists were English. Now, they are about 60%, and the rest are Dutch, Italians, French, Americans and Spanish.

 212.
There is, however, a problem. About 20-30% of our tourists are of unknown origin; we don’t know where they live and how they move around. Another problem is our roads. Now, we have 300% more tourists than we had in the 70s….

 213.
And then, you can imagine, the Madrid, Barcelona and Ibiza airports are the ones with the biggest influx of travellers in summer. Our international airport carries thousands of people. We have flights to Italy, France, Germany, the US…and now we’re trying to get direct flights to China.

 214.
Five years ago, we didn’t have 5-star hotels; currently, we have two built and four under construction. The projects cost 170 million euros. And they will be some of the most luxurious.

 215.
So far, about 50% of the hotels in Sant Antoni have four stars.

 216.

Photo: Luis Paulo Goncalves Silva

 217.
What are the biggest events planned for this year?

 218.
Everyone goes to Ibiza for the clubbing life; in that sense, we don’t need any extra publicity. Eight years ago, we started a different advertising policy and explained that Ibiza is also a destination for gastronomy, sports and tourism.

 219.
Our holidays include Sant Antoni Abad, celebrated on 17 January, and honours the patron saint of winter, alternating with another holiday, Saint Bartholomew, the patron saint of summer festivals. The island’s oldest folklore festival also takes place at this time of year.

 220.
From 17 to 19 May 2024, Sant Antoni will be the dance floor for the IV International Swing and Lindy Hop Festival, with over 52 hours of live music.

 221.
In June, Sant Antoni will host Gay Pride at S’Arenal Beach.

 222.
Each town also hosts regional festivals, and we widely celebrate Christmas.

 223.
And what about sport events?

 224.
The 11th Ibiza Beach Rugby Festival will take place in May 2024, with more than 20 teams from many European countries taking part.

 225.
The Campagnolo-Eivissa Cycling Tour brings together half a thousand cyclists from all over Spain. This tour of the island, now in its 18th year, lasts three days and combines routes on the roads of all the municipalities of Ibiza. A large part of its route passes through San Antonio and its neighbouring towns.

 226.

 227.
We also have the Salt Route. There are almost 500 ships coming to Ibiza from Barcelona and Mallorca within thousands of people.

 228.
Thanks to sports and gastronomy, we have managed to extend the tourist season. It used to last four months, from the opening of the first nightclub to the closing of the last. But, now, the season starts in March and ends in November.

 229.

 230.
What can surprise your tourists on a gastronomic level?

 231.
Sant Antoni is a Mediterranean pantry that occupies 127 km2. In addition to several Sols awarded by the Repsol Guide, the municipality has a fishermen’s federation, an agricultural cooperative and a restaurant with a Michelin star.

 232.
For the past six years, we have been at the forefront of gastronomy. Our typical dishes are: bullit de peix, all i pebre, arròs a banda, the paella from Ibiza (which is not the same as the one from Valencia), the salad with crusts and all the fish we have.

 233.
We are the only municipality that has three wineries: Sa Cova, Can Maymó and Can Rich. Can Rich takes almost 50-60% of its production to the world. And the rest stays at the national level.

 234.
The aim is to promote the municipality as a gourmet destination.

 235.
What are the most famous clubs in Ibiza, in general, and Sant Antoni, in particular?

 236.
In Ibiza, we have Pacha, Destino, Leo and Hai Ibiza – they are the biggest.

 237.
In Sant Antoni, we have Amnesia, Es Paradís and Mambo, among others.

 238.
And, in terms of music, we have everything! Ibiza is very eclectic. You can have fun and be able to choose the music you want.

 239.
What magical places do you have besides night clubs?

 240.
Es Vedrà is an energy point, a small island in the middle of the sea, a kilometre from the coast, shaped like a pyramid. It’s a very magical place.

 241.
As I have said, people think Ibiza is a party place, but they are wrong. People don’t know Ibiza that dazzles and makes you fall in love. There are unforgettable coves with crystal clear water; places where you and the earth meet.

 242.

Photo: Luis Paulo Goncalves Silva

 243.
What water activities do you offer your tourists?

 244.
Because our sea is very calm, there is no surfing; however, we offer diving. Sant Antoni has the largest green coastline on the island.

 245.
The seabed of the islands of Ibiza and Formentera harbours the largest living organism in the world, vast areas of oceanic Posidonia, eight kilometres long with a life span of over 100,000 years, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This underwater forest provides habitat for a multitude of species and is responsible for the transparency and turquoise colour of the waters of Ibiza and Formentera, making them one of the Mediterranean’s best diving spots.

 246.
We have been preserving Posidonia for ten years. Posidonia is the oxygen of the Mediterranean Sea!

 247.
Every year, a group of Andorran judokas from the Hantei club, visit Sant Antoni. How was the visit this year?

 248.
It is a very good tradition, maintained by the Dojo Kiay club of Sant Antoni (Ibiza) and the Hantei club (Andorra). Miguel Angel Costa Marin (Miki), champion of the Canary Islands and Spain, represents the Dojo Kiay club. Eladi López, 7th DAN Andorran judoka, represents the Hantei club.

 249.

 250.
Boys and girls train together and spend their free time exploring our island. I am in love with judo; I joined a year ago. It’s a philosophy of living that I discovered, thanks to Miki.

 251.
It would also be interesting to know how much of the budget goes to beach cleaning and policing ?

 252.
Twenty million euros are allocated for this purpose.

 253.
Sant Antoni is a municipality with a population of about 30,000, which grows to 180,000 between April and November. For 30,000 inhabitants, we have 50 local police officers. And when we have three, five, six or, occasionally, 10 times as many residents in the summer, the number of police officers remains the same. But, due to the influx of tourism, the law doesn’t provide for an increase in the budget, and that’s a problem. Spanish law is responsible for this issue.

 254.
Is it difficult to buy land or a flat upon which to build?

 255.
Sant Antoni is far from being the most urbanised municipality, and it is the greenest. You can’t build here anymore. In this regard, we are the strictest municipality.

 256.
It’s almost impossible to buy a house here; a 60 metre studio flat would cost 300,000 euros, but there are almost no offers. Renting a flat would cost between 1,500 to 3,800 euros a month.

 257.
Now it is strictly forbidden to build new hotels. Tourist spots are being sold for the price of gold.

 258.

 259.
And without further ado, tell us, what does Ibiza mean to you?

 260.
The sea. I don’t understand what life is without the sea. I’m a fisherman, I like to go out to sea in a boat. And I fall in love with sincere people.

 261.
I’ve travelled a lot, I’ve been to Oman, Dubai, Hong Kong…. But there’s nothing like Ibiza!

 262.
The post People think Ibiza is a party place, but they don’t know Ibiza that dazzles and makes you fall in love, said Miguel Tur, Sant Antoni Town’s tourism councillor appeared first on All PYRENEES · France, Spain, Andorra.

 325.
After a chaotic opening race in Qatar that ended in dramatic fashion, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies is determined to bounce back in Italy.

 326.
The PEUGEOT 9X8 2024 is set to make its competitive début with its new “lion head” livery at the Italian round of the WEC. To mark the occasion, PEUGEOT designers have developed an identical livery for the PEUGEOT 508 PSE. From the outset of its WEC programme, PEUGEOT created a strong aesthetic link between the Hypercar and the brand’s production models. Some stylistic elements, such as the light signature, the badge placed on the front grille and the dominant paintwork colour (Selenium Grey in 2022 and Okenite White in 2024), reflect this clear link between the Hypercar and the PEUGEOT production models.
