34.

Anyone who has been the victim of a road accident has the right to compensation for the damages they have suffered. However, in some cases, they may be entitled to file a complaint against the driver responsible for the accident, if the driver was at fault. In either case, victims always have the option of receiving support, whether from the government or from road accident victim support organizations.

 35.
Compensation Information

 36.
If the victim of the accident is a pedestrian, a cyclist, or a passenger, compensation for their injury will be almost always guaranteed, unless they have committed serious and inexcusable negligence. However, if the victim of the accident is a driver who has committed an at-fault error, the compensation procedure will be more complicated and the compensation may be limited.

 37.
The determination of bodily injury following an accident

 38.
The determination of bodily injury must necessarily be based on the established medical reports, i.e., initially the medical certificate, then the medical expert reports. The victim can go to the doctor of their choice, they can also request to receive and study the doctor’s conclusions before having their injury recorded.

 39.
Use insurance

 40.
In most cases, it is the insurer who contacts the accident victim and, depending on the severity of the injuries suffered, may request to see the medical reports. The insurer may advance medical expenses within 8 months of the accident, before making a final offer; in fact, the latter is proposed approximately 5 months after the victim’s condition has consolidated.

 41.
Special cases

 42.
There are some special cases where the repair of damage can be more complicated, these are generally the following cases:

 43.
when the driver responsible for the accident is unknown or uninsured: in this case it is the Compulsory Damage Insurance Guarantee Fund which provides the victim with compensation for the damage suffered

 44.
when the victim is a foreigner: they can easily obtain compensation if they have an international insurance card or a green card; if this is not the case, the process will be more complex.

 45.
when the victim has hit an animal: this situation is special and is subject to special compensation conditions

 46.
Compensation for damages and losses suffered

 47.
File a complaint against the person responsible for the accident

 48.
After an accident for which they are not responsible, the victim can file a complaint against the driver responsible for the accident. Filing a complaint can be done in several ways, including the following:

 49.
file a complaint by letter with the public prosecutor

 50.
file a complaint with a police or gendarmerie service (preferably in the service that deals with accidents, so that the file can be processed as quickly as possible)

 51.
It should be noted that the filing of a complaint must be accompanied by supporting documents regarding the consequences of the accident for the victim or the resulting medical expenses, i.e. expert reports, invoices and medical reports, for example.

The post Information on the rights of road accident victims first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

 68.
It is the engine that converts energy, whether chemical or electrical, into mechanical energy , allowing the car to move. It plays a vital role in providing the power needed to operate the car’s various systems, including the transmission that transmits power to the wheels. The engine is truly the heart of a car.

 69.
There are several types of engines, including the internal combustion engine, which runs on fossil fuels, and the electric motor, which uses electricity stored in batteries. In a hybrid car, these two types of engines work together to optimize the vehicle’s performance.

 70.
Without an engine, a car would be nothing more than an empty shell.

 71.
How does an internal combustion engine work?

 72.
The combustion stage begins when the air-fuel mixture is ignited by the spark plug.

 73.
The movement of the piston is then converted into rotation using a crankshaft, which transmits this energy to the vehicle’s wheels.

 74.
The importance of combustion of the air-fuel mixture

 75.
The combustion of the air-fuel mixture is a crucial step in the operation of an internal combustion engine. This process occurs in a part of the engine called the combustion chamber . During combustion, the air-fuel mixture, which has been compressed by the piston in the chamber, is ignited by the spark plug, creating an explosion. This explosion generates a large amount of energy in the form of heat, which pushes the piston downward. This action converts the chemical energy of the fuel into mechanical energy, which is then used to propel the vehicle. Controlling this process is essential for optimal engine operation.

 76.
In the case of electric motors, mechanical energy is generated in a different way. The electricity stored in the batteries is used to generate a magnetic field that rotates the motors, thus producing the mechanical energy needed to move the car.

 77.
How the transmission works

 78.
A car’s transmission is used to transfer the power generated by the engine to the wheels. It consists of several key components:

 79.
The clutch : It allows the connection and disconnection between the engine and the gearbox.

 80.
The gearbox : It offers different transmission ratios to adapt the engine speed and torque to driving conditions.

 81.
The drive shaft : It transmits the power from the gearbox to the wheels.

 82.
The differential : It distributes the power between the wheels, allowing rotation at different speeds when turning.

 83.
The operation of the transmission depends on the type of car. In a rear-wheel drive car, power is transmitted to the rear wheels, while in a front-wheel drive car, it is transmitted to the front wheels. Some cars have all-wheel drive, where power is distributed between all four wheels.

 84.
The mechanical energy produced by the car engine

 85.
the piston. This piston movement is converted into rotation by the crankshaft, which generates mechanical energy.

 86.
This energy is then transmitted to the car’s wheels, enabling it to move. Engine power, measured in horsepower or kilowatts, and torque, measured in Newton meters, are two important aspects of this energy production.

The post The heart of the vehicle: The engine first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

 103.
A car is made up of several pieces of equipment that make it move. We will therefore examine what these pieces of equipment are and theoretically explain the role of each in the overall mechanics of a vehicle.

 104.
The chassis

 105.
The chassis : This is the metal skeleton of the car. It protects passengers inside in the event of an impact. Pedestrians and cyclists do not have it and are therefore more vulnerable than motorists.

 106.
The engine

 107.
It is controlled by the driver’s actions on the brake and accelerator pedals.

 108.
The transmission

 109.
The transmission : it provides the mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels.

 110.
The gearbox

 111.
The gearbox : it allows the driver to adjust their speed by changing gears with the gear lever.

 112.
The wheels

 113.
Wheels : On a car, the wheels can be driven at the front (traction) or at the rear (propulsion), which is called 2-wheel drive. They can also be driven at the front and rear, which is called 4-wheel drive (4×4). The Highway Code recommends checking tire pressure every month.

 114.
The suspension

 115.
Suspension : This ensures the vehicle’s stability. It keeps the tires in contact with the ground and connects the wheels to the chassis.

 116.
The pedals

 117.
The pedals : they allow the driver to control the speed of the car (by accelerating or braking)

 118.
The order of the pedals in a car is simple:

 119.
Left: the clutch, only present on manual gearboxes, to be used with the left foot only

 120.
Right: the accelerator to be used with the right foot only

 121.
The brakes

 122.
Brakes : essential equipment, all vehicles have a main brake acting on all 4 wheels and a handbrake

 123.
The exhaust pipe

 124.
It has a filtration system (filtration or catalysis) for polluting emissions as well as a silencer to reduce noise. During a roadside check, the noise emitted is measured near the exhaust pipe.

 125.
Windshield wipers

 126.
Windshield wipers : These allow the driver to maintain good forward and rearward visibility by wiping and cleaning the windshield and rear window.

 127.
The B license allows you to drive vehicles with automatic or manual transmissions. The license allowing you to drive only vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox is the B license with Automatic Clutch (BEA).

 128.
The engine

 129.
The engine is one of the essential elements for the proper functioning of the vehicle. Indeed, it has the capacity to transform thermal energy (combustion of a fuel), electrical or hydrogen, into mechanical energy allowing to generate movement. The combustion of fuel can involve gasoline or diesel.

 130.
Engine brake

 131.
The engine, however, has another mechanical function, well known to drivers, which allows the vehicle to slow down. This is called engine braking . The term engine braking is counterintuitive, as it combines two generally opposing terms: braking and the engine. However, it is essential for any driver or driver’s license candidate to understand its purpose and operation.

The post a car work? first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

Find out everything you need to know about the engine, clutch, suspension, and more to succeed on the day of your driving test.

 148.
To drive safely, the driver must know how his vehicle works and have a good overview.

 149.
1.The engine in the highway code

 150.
In modern cars, the engine is always located at the front, under the hood. The engine is controlled by the accelerator pedal, located on the far right. This is pedal 3 in the image.

 151.
A handle located to the left of the driver in the passenger compartment allows the hood to be opened.

 152.
1 – Clutch pedal

 153.
2 – Brake pedal

 154.
3 – Accelerator pedal

 155.
1.The gearbox in the highway code

 156.
It is automatic or mechanical. It allows you to control the engine speed. The gear lever allows you to change gears and, to do this, you must disengage the clutch using the left pedal 1.

 157.
– Clutch : Release the clutch pedal to bring the engine and wheels into contact.

 158.
In the disengaged position, the wheels are not driven by the engine, you then engage a gear. In the engaged position, the wheels are driven at the engaged gear and the vehicle moves forward.

 159.
1.Suspensions in the Highway Code

 160.
The suspension ensures good road holding. The tires, in constant contact with the ground, ensure the vehicle’s stability when braking or cornering.

 161.
1.The main obstacles in the highway code

 162.
Disc or drum brakes (rarer these days) are fitted on all four wheels.

 163.
It is controlled by pedal 2, in the middle, operated with the right foot. To brake effectively, it is best not to press the brake pedal too hard.

 164.
The handbrake, as defined by the Highway Code, is only used when the vehicle is stationary.

 165.
It allows you to lock the rear wheels and keep the vehicle in a prolonged stop position (even when the engine is running). It can also be used as an emergency brake.

 166.
Engine braking in the highway code slows the vehicle down when the driver releases the accelerator and shifts down.

 167.
Instructor’s tip : When going downhill, it’s best to brake intermittently to avoid overheating the brake pads or shoes. If the vehicle is coming from a wet area, the brakes may become unresponsive. In this case, dry them out by applying gentle pressure to the pedal.

The post The main parts of the vehicle first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

 184.
General information on vehicle operation

 185.
In addition to the rules of the highway code and road safety, the driver must also know the basics of vehicle operation, which will enable him to deal with all kinds of situations in the event of a breakdown.

 186.
To move a vehicle forward, you must start the engine by turning the keys in the ignition, then use the clutch and engage a gear to convert the electrical energy into mechanical energy, which sets the vehicle in motion. This is the basis of the transmission system.

 187.
A vehicle’s chassis protects its interior equipment, particularly its wheels, from potential impacts. A vehicle is equipped with two-wheel drive, either at the front (traction system) or at the rear (propulsion system), and more rarely with four-wheel drive at the front and rear.

 188.
Over-revving is when the vehicle speed is too high in relation to the gear engaged, and under-revving is when the opposite is true. It should be noted that excessive over-revving or under-revving can cause premature damage to the vehicle.

 189.
When it comes to brakes, there are two types of brakes available in a vehicle: the brakes that are accessed by pressing the brake pedal and the handbrake. The handbrake should only be used in emergency braking, when starting on a hill, and when parking.

 190.
The dashboard

 191.
Regarding the dashboard lights when starting a vehicle, when the key is turned to the ignition, the “On” light will come on, but to access the dashboard functions and start the vehicle, the key must be in the “Start” position.

 192.
In a vehicle, all of its equipment is connected to an internal computer, which is itself connected to the dashboard. The latter is therefore used to inform the driver of the status of the various equipment in their vehicle, and to warn them of certain anomalies in order to get them to react. These alerts are mainly present in the form of indicator lights.

 193.
A dashboard generally includes three different types of indicator lights:

 194.
indicator lights which indicate the operation of certain equipment at certain times, such as the vehicle’s headlights or turn signals

 195.
warning lights, which appear in the form of orange lights, the driver can continue to drive but must have the equipment causing the malfunction checked so that it does not get worse

 196.
warning lights, which appear in the form of red lights and indicate that the malfunction of certain elements makes driving dangerous, stopping is then mandatory

 197.
Vehicle lighting

 198.
The lights of a vehicle in circulation must be in working order; in fact, driving with lights that are not working constitutes an offense punishable by a fine.

 199.
A vehicle’s headlights consist of several bulbs that should be checked regularly. When the car’s headlights are on, a warning light illuminates on the dashboard to inform the driver.

The post The operation of a vehicle, its mechanics and its maintenance first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

However, once you understand key components like the engine, the mechanics, and the transmission, you gain a better appreciation for these marvels of engineering. From the workings of a gasoline engine to the dynamics of a plug-in hybrid car, each component plays a crucial role. Let us guide you through the fascinating mechanisms that power your vehicle.

 216.
Definition of automobile

 217.
It propels itself using an engine that can be powered by various types of fuel or energy. Equipped with wheels, the automobile offers considerable mobility and autonomy.

 218.
What is the structure of a car?

 219.
The structure of a car is made up of several essential elements that work together to ensure its proper functioning and safety.

 220.
It is usually made of steel or aluminum to ensure good strength and stability.

 221.
The bodywork : This is the exterior shell of the car that protects its occupants and various mechanical components. It also plays an important role in the car’s aerodynamics.

 222.
The passenger compartment : space reserved for the vehicle’s occupants, equipped with seats and various controls for driving.

 223.
The steering system : It allows the driver to control the direction of the car. It includes various parts such as the steering wheel, steering column, and rack and pinion.

 224.
The suspension system : It is designed to absorb road irregularities, ensuring a comfortable ride for passengers. It also contributes to the vehicle’s stability.

 225.
It slows down or stops the car by applying frictional force to the wheels.

 226.
Wheels and their role in auto mechanics

 227.
Wheels are essential components of a car because they establish direct contact with the road and enable the vehicle’s movement. There are usually four of them, plus an unmounted spare tire.

 228.
Each wheel consists of two main parts: the rim and the tire. It is connected to the vehicle via the hub. It is essential for absorbing shocks and providing sufficient grip while driving.

 229.
Wheels are classified into two types depending on their role:

 230.
The drive wheels , which receive power from the engine to propel the vehicle.

 231.
The position of these wheels depends on the vehicle’s traction type.

The post How does a car work? first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

 247.

When the complaint is received, it is the public prosecutor who decides to prosecute the person responsible for the accident in court, before the criminal court, but if he decides to dismiss the complaint, there will be no consequences for the person responsible, unless the victim decides to initiate proceedings themselves, or if he decides to contest the dismissal of the complaint with the court of appeal by sending a letter to the public prosecutor.

 248.
To obtain a copy of the accident procedure, the steps are very simple, the victim can:

 249.
At any point during the trial, the victim may decide to become a civil party. They must then pay a deposit, the amount of which is set by the court, in most cases. In this case, it is also wise to involve the accident victim’s social security fund.

 250.
Appeal the court’s decision

 251.
The victim has the right to appeal the decision taken by the court if he or she does not agree with it. He or she must then contact the registry of the court that issued the judgment.

 252.
Justice and the police and national gendarmerie services

 253.
The public prosecutor may have the victim assisted by specific support organizations, and the police or the national gendarmerie are also required to inform the victim of the existence of such organizations. The relevant information will be provided directly to the victim when the complaint is filed, whether with the public prosecutor or at a police or gendarmerie station.

 254.
Victim support associations

 255.
The mission of accident victim support associations is to provide emotional support to victims and to assist them with their procedures (whether personal, legal or administrative) if they so wish.

 256.
Lawyers’ fees

 257.
The lawyer is the person who will assist the victim, represent them, and defend their interests in court. It is important to know that part of the lawyer’s fees may be covered by the victim’s insurance. If the victim’s income does not allow them to pay even part of the lawyer’s fees, they may be eligible for legal aid if they request it.

 258.
Special cases

 259.
Some cases require special procedures or are subject to specific conditions, these are the following:

 260.
If the victim has suffered an accident or damage in the course of their work, certain social rights may be granted to them, so they should inquire with their primary health insurance fund (CPAM)

 261.
If the victim is hospitalized, you should know that they have the right to freely access all the information contained in their medical file. The hospital will also encourage the intervention of victim support associations (mentioned above). In addition, user relations and care committees will be responsible for respecting your rights and welcoming your loved ones and the victim.

 262.
If the victim is disabled as a result of the accident, the intervention of a home automation expert, as well as the latter’s insurer, will help determine

 263.
the amount paid by his insurance to cover the development costs

The post The prosecution of the person responsible for the accident before the criminal court first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

 280.
An automobile consists of the following elements:

 281.
The wheels support and allow the mobility of the vehicle;

 282.
The chassis and bodywork form a passenger compartment with seats;

 283.
Suspensions: provide the elastic connection between the chassis and the wheels;

 284.
The transmission components transmit the torque from the engine to the wheels;

 285.
The control instruments (steering wheel, pedals, counters, cruise control , etc.) allow the driving of the automobile in question;

 286.
The energy tank: fuel tank and/or battery give a certain autonomy to the vehicle;

 287.
Engine…

 288.
The function of the engine is to produce a force capable of setting the vehicle in motion . See: Feature articles on engines.

 289.
thermal

 290.
The internal combustion engine (also commonly referred to incorrectly as an “explosion engine”) consumes fuel mixed with air and releases combustion gases . Its efficiency, although improving, is still very low – around 15 to 20%.

 291.
It also produces a lot of heat , which is released into the outside air through air/water, air/oil exchangers called radiators.

 292.
An exhaust is used to reduce the engine noise level as well as pollutant emissions (gases and particles) to a level that complies with current standards.

 293.
When the fuel is gas, it reaches the engine through a pressure regulator.

 294.
The engine drives, among other accessories, an alternator responsible for producing low-voltage electricity . This powers all the vehicle’s electrical accessories and, in parallel, recharges a battery, providing electrical energy when the engine is switched off.

 295.
It generates a circular motion or torque on its output shaft .

 296.
electric

 297.
The electric motor(s) draw their energy from special traction accumulators mounted in batteries.

 298.
During acceleration, the motors transform electrical energy into work and, during braking, transform the vehicle’s inertia into electrical energy that recharges the batteries. A bidirectional regulation system connects the motors to the batteries.

 299.
Variants currently under development use a fuel cell system to provide electrical power. These systems are expected to operate silently, less pollutingly , and be flexible enough to eventually replace internal combustion engines.

 300.
mixed or hybrid

 301.
Hybrid engines combine the advantages of combustion engines and electric motors.

 302.
Both types of engines are mounted on the vehicle, an on-board computer system combined with power electronics manages the complementarity of the engines, as well as the available resources according to demands and constraints.

 303.
This type of engine, while more complex to design and manufacture, is particularly environmentally friendly (in theory) compared to conventional thermal or electric systems. In particular, it allows for significantly lower CO emissions than a thermal engine alone.

 304.
The most obvious advantage is the absence of pollution by exhaust gases in places where these emissions are least desirable, such as cities, since the thermal engine only operates from a certain speed , unless of course the batteries are discharged.

The post How an automobile works first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.

This simple routine can also
360. save you money in the long run by avoiding more expensive repairs. Additionally, well-maintained
361. vehicles are less likely to leave you stranded on the side of the road. You certainly don't want to
362. experience that on a rainy Sunday night.

 363.
However, many people don't know how to perform even basic car repairs or are afraid to work on their
364. cars. This guide will teach you how to perform common maintenance and repair tasks to keep your car

 365.
Generally, the
366. tools that came with your car are sufficient for basic tasks like changing a flat tire or other urgent
367. repairs! If you're planning more in-depth maintenance, it's best to purchase tools or parts individually,
368. but buy them of good quality from reputable brands such as Autoparts24.eu.

 369.
DIY Car Maintenance Tasks:

 370.
However, it doesn't last long and needs to be replaced regularly. On average, you should change it about
371. every 40,000 km or every five oil changes.

 372.
You don't need to be a professional mechanic to do this. All you'll need is an air compressor, a socket, a
373. hose, a wrench, and a 4-in-1 screwdriver. Before replacing the old coolant, make sure the engine is cool
374. and check the coolant levels.

 375.
Replacing filters

 376.
Air filters keep your car running smoothly. They improve the heat in the vehicle and ensure the air
377. conditioning works properly. Ideally, they shouldn't be discolored or filled with debris. However, if you
378. notice them dirty or clogged, it's time to replace them.

 379.
Replacing them is easy and shouldn't take long. Simply unscrew the cap covering the filter, remove the
380. old one, and slide in the new one. If the air conditioning still isn't working properly, there may also be a
381. problem with the serpentine belt.

 382.
Engine oil change

 383.
This oil change should be performed every 5,000 to 8,000 km or every three months. However, no
384. matter how often you drive, the oil will need to be changed very regularly. This is an easy job that can be
385. done in about 40 minutes: Before you begin, make sure the engine is cold. To change the oil, park your
386. car on a raised platform and locate the oil drain plug under the vehicle. Place the drain pan underneath
387. to catch the oil and remove the plug. Drain the used oil.

 388.
The last step is to replace your oil filter, if you can't loosen it by hand. Remove the old oil filter, then
389. clean the area thoroughly.

 390.
Once done, screw the new filter on
391. by hand and make sure the gasket is securely seated in the filter. of oil for your car. Before you smile or applaud, run the engine and check for leaks around the oil drain
392. plug. Finally, check your oil level with a dipstick to ensure you've added enough oil.

The post Guide: DIY Car Maintenance and Repair Tasks first appeared on https://carandbikesnews.com.
