101.

Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge won a gold medal in the marathon at the Tokyo Olympics. He ran 42.195 kilometres in 2 hours and 8 minutes and 38 seconds. The second place runner was from the Netherlands, and third place was Belgium’s Bachir Abdi.

 102.
Kipchoge won the marathon for the second time at the Olympics. He also became the third double Olympic champion in that discipline. Kipchoge’s previous two gold medals were won by Ethiopian Abebe Bikila in 1960 and 1964 as well as by Waldemar Zerpinski of GDR in 1976 and 1980.

 103.
Biography of Eliud Kipchoge

 104.
Eliud Kipchoge was born in Kenya. He is the fourth child in his family. His mother was a teacher. Eliud Kipchoge graduated from high school and later met his future coach Patrick Sang, who had won an Olympic silver medal, and they have been training together since 2015.

 105.
Sang is a friend of Kipchoge. They were born in the same village 20 years apart. Sang also has three children and lives in Eldoret, Kenya, like Kipchoge.

 106.

 107.
Kipchoge ran the marathon with 41 other runners. They were all strong and fast, and passed off drinks to Kipchoge on bikes. This meant that he did not stop at the refreshment points, which usually slows down runners.
108.
109. Kipchoge cannot be helped by a pacer and drink during the race. IAAF does not allow this. The Vienna course is not part of the IAAF program. This does not mean that Kipchoge’s record is not important or that Monza has no records because of this rule.

 110.
In Berlin, people break the world record for running. In Vienna, people create history by running. It is like the first man on the moon.

 111.
People run ultramarathons because they want to do something big. They want to finish in the time that is given. They need a lot of speed, so they have to be very fast. At the 2019 London Marathon, there were no pacemakers which could help with this pace. Journalists asked if this race would improve attitudes towards high performance sport in our world with many doping scandals.

 112.
Kipchoge said that Vienna is like flowers. Weeds are not good for flowers and make people sad. Kipchoge thinks about the world and how a flower can make it better.

 178.
What’s happening?

 179.
Day nine of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will have a lot of events. The first event will be the women’s marathon final. The next event is the high jump final, and after that is the men’s 10,000m final. Next are javelin and 1,500m finals for men. Then relay races, including 4x400m for both men and women.

 180.
Who should we expect to see?

 181.
The women’s marathon is an Olympic event. It will be held north of Tokyo, in Sapporo and Hokkaido. Brigid Kosgei will be among the favourites to win. There are three other people from Ethiopia who are also going to try to win.

 182.
In the high jump, Maria Lasitskene from the Russian team is a three-time world champion. She will be competing with Emily Sisson and Camille Bascombe from Team USA and Tsehai Gemechu of Ethiopia in the 10,000m final.
184. The men in the race will be aiming for a medal. They are Johannes Vetter of Germany and Finn Lassi Etelatalo. Cole Hawker (from University of Oregon) is also aiming to shock the professionals in the 1500m final.

 185.
In the relay, Team USA will set the pace in this race. The men’s team and Alisson Felix will be among favorites in women’s race.

 207.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo will be from July 30 to Aug 8. There will be 43 individual medal events, but the ROC team will consist of 10 athletes competing in men’s and women’s 20km race walk, high jump, pole vault, hammer throw, decathlon and 110m hurdles. Even though the amount of medals is less than other countries have, the Japanese team stands a good chance of winning one.

 208.
Athletics is a major sport. There will be 48 medal events in Tokyo, the most medal-winning sport of the Olympics. It can’t be too hard to keep track of them all, as long as you have this timetable handy.

 209.
Kenya’s Kipyegon

 210.
A young woman from Kenya named Fait Kipyegon won an event at the Olympics called the 1,500M. She ran it in 3.53.11, which is a very fast time that set an Olympic record! The runner-up woman, Laura Muir of Great Britain (3.55.86), also had a good race and finished second place. Siffan Hassan from Holland (3.54:50) was also one of the top three women who finished third in this event at the Olympics!
219.
Athlete Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands won the 1500m race at the Tokyo Olympics. This was surprising because on the first lap she bumped into her Ethiopian rival and fell down, but she got up and continued running. She finished with 4:05:17. Hassan also competes for medals in 5000m and 10,000m races.

You can see its results here and in this post we will talk about what other runners who stayed in line might be able to surprise us with.

 240.
Men’s 1500m running. Who’s not starting?

 241.
The last man who has beaten Cheruiyot in international competition is also the penultimate world champion Elijah Manangoi. But he has been disqualified before for missing a test and cannot break his training partner’s winning streak anytime soon.

 242.
Taoufik Makhloufi was second in the last World Championships, but he has not been in any other official competitions since then. He also announced that his injuries will not allow him to be able to compete in Tokyo and try to win 4 Olympics medals.

 243.
Mohamed Katir’s career was not well-known before this year. But now he has done a lot of new things and improved his personal bests. He got second place in Monaco with a Spanish record of 3:28.76. Besides that, he only made the Olympic list for the 5,000 m and there was no change on that score.
244. Kamar Etyang was not famous before this season, but he got second place in the Kenyan race to qualify for the Olympics. This is good because Kenya is a Category A country, so each athlete needs to have 3 out-of-competition doping tests in 10 months before the Olympics. But Kamar couldn’t do these tests because he couldn’t leave his country. So his trips abroad will be postponed until after the Olympics.

 245.
Key talking points

 246.
Two Kenyans, Charles Simotwo and Abel Kipsang, beat Cheruiyot to qualify for the Olympics. However, Simotwo has not won outside Kenya this season. On the other hand, Kipsang has been third in most of his races but is doing worse this season.

 247.
But those weren’t the most famous events, and his best time was 3:32.68. It happened in French Marseille 10 days before qualifying in Nairobi.

 248.
The Olympic qualifiers finish in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi

 249.
If you want a chance to beat Cheruiyot, the first person to stand out is Ingebrigtsen from Norway. He was unhappy with 4th place at the World Championships in Doha when he was 19 years old. After that, he became very good and established himself as the best runner in the world after Cheruiyot. This time he did not try for a double race and missed out on 5000m. It looks like things are looking up for him to overtake Cheruiyot this time around.

 250.
But for now, the score of their head-to-head encounters is 0:12. If Jakob wins in the Olympics it will be very surprising. But another problem for him is a cold he picked up in late June and missed starts in Oslo and Stockholm. There’s also a chance that he won’t even finish 3rd place in Monaco. Still, with a 3rd place at the Diamond League stage with a time of 3:30 minutes, this looks good for someone who has had health problems recently.

 251.
At the last World Championships, two British people unexpectedly finished 5th and 6th. They have been able to get better since then. That is because one was able to run 3:30 in Monaco, and the other ran a 800-meter race that lasted 1:46.3 minutes with a lap in 55.8 seconds and 50.5 seconds total time for a total of 3:40.72 minutes.

 252.
We haven’t seen them in the Diamond League stages (or many other races) this year. So it’s hard to predict anything. We shouldn’t be surprised if one of them ends up in the top three. Even third place Jake Heyward.

The start time is not earlier than 2:00 Moscow time. Experts say Nadal is more likely to win – his odds are 1.26 to Harris’ 3.65.

 273.
Lloyd George Harris

 274.
In the US Open, there is a tournament that is happening. It is North America. There are matches and Rafael Nadal started from the second round and won.

 275.
The Spaniard, who has a last name, made it through to the third round. His next opponent will be Lloyd George Harris. He is younger than most tennis players and he is ranked in the top 100, but he can’t make it through any further than the early rounds of major competitions.

 276.
This tennis match is between two people who have never met before. The Spanish player was ranked 3rd in the world, and the South African 50th.
277.
278. Nadal faced American Jack Sock less than twenty-four hours ago. They played a difficult match. Nadal won the match in a tie-breaker. He lost in the third game, but there was a break when he had Sock at his mercy. And all this despite the fact that Sock is now ranked 100th in the ATP rankings!

 279.
Harris has managed in less than an hour. Sandgren withdrew, citing injury, with the score at 6-4, 1-0 in favour of Lloyd George. The South African’s main trump card, his classy serve, cannot be overlooked. In the first set alone with Sandgren he had as many as 10 aces.

 280.
In 20-21, Harris was ranked 50th in the world. He had already won 20 games by early August and his hard court record was 14-7. But this did not help Lloyd George at the Atlanta tournament, who lost 6-7 (2), 6-1, 2-6 to Australian Jordan Thompson in the first round.

 281.
Nadal’s last official match was in the semifinals of the French Open. It was against Novak Djokovic. Nadal missed the entire grass season and didn’t go to the Olympics in Tokyo. The official reason for this was that he had an injury.

 282.
Rafa lost in the first round of a tournament. He will not try hard for this one. The main thing is the US Open, and Rafa knows how to prepare himself for key starts there.

 283.
Harris is not in the best form. But if he can serve his first serve, he will be okay. Our money is on Nadal’s opponent at 4.5 games plus handicap. We hope that Nadal’s opponent won’t burn out before playing their game, or it will be difficult for the Spaniard to win then.

 284.

 285.
Betting on Rafael Nadal v Lloyd George Harris in Washington on August 6, 2021

 286.
The Washington tournament is such a tough competition that Rafael Nadal should win the trophy even if he’s not in top form. But his first match called this thesis into question and it will not be easy for him in the next game. Rafa probably needs to get through some tough tests before competing in more prestigious competitions.

 287.
Betting: Harris wins with a handicap (+4.5 game) for 1.67.

 313. Kenya has won three Olympics in a row at 800 meters. The most recent Olympics was won by Wilfred Bonghei, but London and Rio de Janeiro were both won by David Rudisha. David Rudisha also holds the world and Olympic records for 800 meters.

 315.
An athlete has been suspended from the Olympics because he violated a rule about doping. The press service of an international agency for drug testing said this.

 316.
Doping is when someone gives athletes drugs. The samples given by Abrahamyan were found to have three drugs in them: dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone, methandienone and tamoxifen. The athlete can request that the samples be checked again to see if there are any more drugs in them. There will be a men’s shot put competition on August 3rd.

 317.
A Kenyan athlete who is good at running 100 meters ran in the Olympics. The athlete tested positive for doping. The doping was found in the first sample, and the athlete wanted to know what was in the second sample with an autopsy. So they were suspended from running 100 meters, and did not run it on 1 August.

The reason for the exclusion was non-compliance with paragraph 15 of the anti-doping rules, which requires athletes to undergo three out-of-competition doping tests at intervals of at least three weeks over a 10 month period. Athletes from six countries – Nigeria (10), Belarus (3), Ukraine (3), Ethiopia (1), Kenya (2), Morocco (1) – were banned by the AIU for violating this rule.

This was not only the record holder but also silver for 2020 Olympics. The medal was the first time Namibia has gotten one since 1996.

 339.
25 years ago, another African from Nigeria also won bronze in the same event.

 340.

 341.
Yesterday, in a race, the gold went to Jamaican runner Elaine Thompson-Hera. It is her second time taking gold in the 100 and 200 metres at two Olympic Games. This makes her the first athlete to do so. She also made history because she is repeating the success of Usain Bolt (who won gold in 2008, 2012 and 2016).

 342.
As for bronze, Gabrielle Thomas of the USA was placed third. Her time is 21.87.

 343.

 344.
What’s wrong with Mbom’s success

 345.
The problem is with the athlete’s body. It has a lot of testosterone, which makes it different than others. Both athletes have more testosterone than is natural. Mbom and Beatriz Masilinga both have more than they should because they had it since they were young.
346.
347. Hyperandrogenism is a word about people who are born with both male and female parts. These people have more testosterone than other people. This can help runners get started, have endurance, and be able to stay calm when they are stressed. Christine has used this to set records. But there is one bad thing about it: the world association does not recognize the runner’s performances in races that are 400 meters or longer because of hyperandrogenism.

 348.
According to the World Athletics rule (introduced in late 2018 and confirmed by the UN International Court of Justice), female athletes with gender differences (DSD) cannot take part in the 400m to 1500m running disciplines if they have a level of testosterone that is higher than five nanomoles per litre of blood. This is because normal women have a level of three units or lower.

 349.
Criticism, it’s here too

 350.
People are upset about the way that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is handling this. The Tokyo silver medallist, with her testosterone off the charts and her technique as far from high as possible, had an “unsportsmanlike superiority” over the other girls. But she did not break any rules.

 351.
But in the long term, the organizers need to think again about how they let special athletes enter. They have to stop letting them get an advantage over all of the other athletes who do not have a natural advantage.
