It is the lack of quality services provided by small business computer service and network organizations. Could it be the shortage of skilled computer technicians? Or is it really the inability for the leaders in these small computer support companies to see what is happening in their market?Computer support organizations, especially those that focus on the small business marketplace, need to put their focus on their client base. This focus is vital with the emergence of larger players in the small business computer consulting space that are developing an interest in servicing your client base.The three things that all small business computer support companies need to master are:- Anticipate your client’s needs – Computer Consultants need to actively anticipate their client’s business goals now and in the future. Small businesses can change direction on a dime since their decision making hierarchy is very direct. So it is important that the small business service organization has the ability to anticipate what their client’s needs will be now and have the ability to foresee their short term and long term needs. An information technology consultant with the ability to see the opportunities of their client’s needs will entrench themselves into their client’s business for a long period of time.- Proactive Support – Once you can master the anticipation of your client’s needs, the next step is to take the appropriate steps to ensure that the items they have anticipated coming down the pipe are now proactively put into place. Small businesses cannot work successfully in a reactive mode. When their technology support company does not take the steps to proactively service their client base they run the risk of their clients suffering unnecessary downtime. Most of the time, it comes back to an issue that could have been prevented with proper anticipation of their needs and then taking the proactive support to implement the needed steps to prevent any downtime.- Service The Client – Service companies need to consistently service their clients. When you have put into place the steps needed to anticipate their needs and then proactively implemented these solutions, small business consulting companies need to service their clients consistently. Stop servicing your clients and you might as well hand them over to your competition. I cannot speak enough about the enhanced level of service that small business clients require–they will always depend on the expertise of their IT consultant the most . Consultants today cannot assume that things are just working at their clients. You need to be in there all the time.These are three main areas that today’s small business consultants need to focus on to ensure their success. If you do not take care of your clients, your competition will. You can bank on it.Information Technology companies today are so concerned about service metrics, managed services and many new trends in servicing clients that they are failing at one major area–actually servicing them. Small Business consultants seem more concerned about the perfect service plan, how to charge their clients and designing the perfect solution. To some this may be a very difficult question to answer – perhaps, you too may have seen many beautiful sights and find it difficult to select one.Most of us cherish a special moment when we were intoxicated by the beauty of the landscape or the subject in front of us. During our life time we’ll call to mind those indelible memories. If we could, we would re-visit that location or photograph that subject time and time again.That scene or creature that captivated us is a work of art.Art is a word that has caused a great deal of controversy especially in the recent past. Some photographers use the word art to describe and sell their work.But, what is art? Can you define it? If you are a photographer that sells your work as photographic art – what is it that qualifies it as such?<br /> <br />Defining Art<br /> A definition of art that will satisfy everybody is probably impossible. But as good an explanation as any is found in Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, which says that art is; “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects.”<br /> <br />On this basis we can say that a photographer needs to have both skill and creative imagination. When he puts these two aptitudes to work, he can produce something that others will find pleasing or attractive. A deeper definition of art by the French photographer, Alain Briot: “Art is not concerned with record keeping. Art is concerned with expressing emotions, feelings and opinions. Record keeping is factual, concerned with capturing reality and concerned with recording things as they are. Art is non-factual and is concerned with interpreting reality rather than with capturing reality as-is.”His definition goes further than the Webster’s Dictionary because it is specific in explaining the difference between photography as art and what he calls, record keeping, meaning a photograph that is devoid of some of the factors he highlights.Basically, this means that a photographic image can be described as a work of art if the photographer uses skill, creative imagination, interpreting reality and expresses this with feeling.Skill and Imagination <br /> <br />Skill and creative imagination is involved in the creation of art. What kind of skill is needed?Unless the photographer is capable to convert his creative imagination fed by emotions and present it visually, the final print will be a failure technically. In our digital era, a successful photographer needs to acquire a number of skills. In pre-digital times, the film Lab did most of the pro-production work with relatively little input from the photographer.<br /> <br />Today, it is very different – not only must the photographer know how to use his camera tools fluently but he must add other skills in the production of the final print. A computer is a necessity and so is learning how to use software products to manipulate captured images, to change, refine and much more – all this has a direct bearing on the quality of the result – the print.Without these skills the photographer cannot express visually his imagination – the two aptitudes are different and yet they are inseparably married.”Why do people pursue art so passionately?” – asked Professor Michael Leyton in Symmetry, Causality, Mind. The future couldn’t be more promising for authors in terms of producing marketable work since there are limitless choices for editing, publishing, cover design and other services. Unfortunately, once a book is ready for release, effective book marketing strategies are almost non-existent.Should Self-Publishers Avoid Hardcopy Books?Sales figures for self published eBooks are readily accessible. According to a study done in February, 2014, single-author publishers accounted for 14 percent of all eBook sales. While revenue to the author lags, authors who self publish should be encouraged that they are receiving significant exposure in the eBook market, which represents about 25 percent of all books sold. However, on the print side, self-published authors are barely making a dent. In fact, looking at the Nielsen Bookscan Top 500 every week would reveal that self-published paperback books account for less than one percent of the total bestseller listings.The reality that hardcopy self-published books are almost impossible to sell is primarily driven by printing costs and the lack of brick and mortar bookstore accessibility. Who do you think will win in that game?Publishing hardcover or paperback books for vanity and promotion may make sense, but it is only in the world of eBooks that the playing field is level.
