Canadian actor Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her role as Trinity in The Matrix franchise, is back in the spotlight with her latest project, Die Alone, a gritty and romantic zombie thriller. In a recent interview, Moss opened up about her career, motherhood, and the ever-changing nature of the film industry.

Returning to the Genre Scene

Moss, 57, has long been associated with science fiction and action films, having played memorable roles in Christopher Nolan’s Memento, the neo-noir thriller Disturbia, and most recently, The Acolyte, a Star Wars spinoff series. In Die Alone, she plays Mae, a hardened survivalist navigating a post-apocalyptic world alongside a younger man with memory loss, portrayed by Douglas Smith.

“Not only am I drawn to genre films, but they are drawn to me,” Moss said. “As an actor, sometimes you want to play things that are so different, but I never minded being seen in a certain genre because there are so many stories to tell.”

She also noted the similarities between Die Alone and Memento, which also featured a protagonist suffering from memory loss. However, she emphasized that while there may be echoes of her past work, the film stands on its own with a unique narrative and emotional depth.

A Shift in Hollywood

Moss recalled her early years in Hollywood, including a time when she struggled financially despite landing a role in Models Inc., a spin-off of Melrose Place. Reflecting on her career, she spoke about the unpredictable nature of the industry, particularly after her recent involvement in The Acolyte, which was canceled by Disney last year. “It’s always disappointing when something doesn’t get picked up,” she said. “But I’m never really too shocked. This is the kind of business that’s not for everybody – eventually, you have to get pretty realistic about it.”

The Legacy of The Matrix

Despite the ups and downs, Moss remains grateful for her iconic role in The Matrix and its sequels. While The Matrix Resurrections (2021) received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office, she maintains that the experience was invaluable. “I’ve always said this, and it’s kind of cliché, but you only have control over your own experience. That film was really such a gift, and I loved making it.”

She also acknowledged the evolving interpretations of The Matrix, particularly its significance as a trans allegory, following the transition of its directors, Lana and Lilly Wachowski. “I wasn’t really privy to that at the time,” she admitted. “But it’s amazing how the film has resonated with so many people in different ways.”

Choosing Family Over Fame

After the massive success of The Matrix, Moss made the conscious decision to step away from Hollywood to focus on raising her three children. “I remember being torn, thinking, ‘Gosh, I’m getting offered such great things,’” she recalled. “And I was holding my baby in my arms, and I thought, ‘At the end of my life, will it matter that I have another movie on my résumé, or that I held my baby?’ And it was a no-brainer.”

While acknowledging that her career trajectory may have been different had she stayed in the industry full-time, she has no regrets. “For my career, maybe not so much,” she said with a laugh, “but that was the greatest decision I ever made in my life.”

Looking Ahead

With Die Alone set for release in the UK and Ireland on March 10, Moss is excited for audiences to see a different side of her as an actor. The film, directed by Lowell Dean, embraces a stripped-down, practical effects approach reminiscent of classic independent films.

“He’s just this guy making movies and loving them, caring about them,” Moss said of Dean. “When movies have more hands in them, it’s just a little different. This felt… simpler, I guess.”

As she continues to navigate the industry on her own terms, Moss remains open to new opportunities while staying true to what matters most to her—both as an actor and as a mother.

Die Alone will be available to own or rent in the UK and Ireland from March 10.

Jenna Ortega, known for her roles in Wednesday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and Scream, recently looked back on her early acting days, recalling her brief appearance in Iron Man 3. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight alongside co-star Paul Rudd, the actress reflected on the experience and why she considers it a minor footnote in her career.

A Forgotten MCU Appearance

Ortega, 22, revealed that one of her first Hollywood jobs was a small role in Iron Man 3 (2013), in which she played the vice president’s daughter. However, her appearance was largely cut from the final version of the film. “I did it once,” Ortega said. “It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg, and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”

Her co-star Paul Rudd, a mainstay of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ant-Man, suggested that Marvel has a habit of leaving narrative “bread crumbs” and could bring her back into the franchise. “They should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise,” he said. However, Ortega was less optimistic. “They even took my name away,” she responded. “I count that, then I move on.”

A Rising Hollywood Star

Despite her fleeting Marvel experience, Ortega has since carved out a successful career. She gained widespread acclaim for her lead role in Netflix’s Wednesday and has appeared in hit films such as The Fallout, X, and Scream. Looking ahead, she will reprise her role in Wednesday Season 2 and star in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Klara and the Sun, and The Weeknd’s upcoming feature Hurry Up Tomorrow. Additionally, she is in talks to lead a Single White Female remake and will star alongside Natalie Portman in The Gallerist.

While her Iron Man 3 role may have been brief, Ortega’s career continues to soar, proving that early setbacks in Hollywood don’t define an actor’s journey.

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has become a mother for the second time. While details about the baby’s gender and name have not been disclosed, reports confirm that the Hunger Games star recently gave birth.

Lawrence’s pregnancy was first noticed in October 2024 when she was spotted on a walk with a visible baby bump. This marks her second child with her husband, Cooke Maroney, an art gallery director. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Cy—named after artist Cy Twombly—in February 2022.

Lawrence and Maroney first met in early 2018, introduced by actress Laura Simpson, a close friend of Lawrence. Their relationship quickly progressed, leading to their wedding in October 2019. The couple currently resides in an exclusive Beverly Hills mansion.

Sony Pictures is set to revive Starship Troopers, with District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp taking the reins as writer and director. The upcoming project will return to the original 1959 novel by Robert A. Heinlein, rather than serving as a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 cult classic.

While plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to retain the franchise’s signature conflict between humans and alien bugs.

Blomkamp will produce the film alongside his wife and longtime collaborator, Terri Tatchell. The director has a well-established history with Sony, having previously worked with the studio on District 9, Elysium, Chappie, and the 2023 PlayStation adaptation Gran Turismo, which grossed over $122 million worldwide. His District 9 was a critical and commercial success, earning four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Starship Troopers franchise, which began with the 1997 film, has since spawned multiple sequels, including Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008), along with two CGI-animated films in 2012 and 2017.

Blomkamp’s fresh take aims to bring Heinlein’s novel to life in a way that differs from previous adaptations, marking a bold new direction for the sci-fi classic.

After months of speculation, Apple TV+ has confirmed that Ted Lasso will return for a highly anticipated fourth season, with Jason Sudeikis reprising his role as the endlessly optimistic coach.

The news comes as a welcome surprise to fans, as Season 3 largely wrapped up major storylines—including Ted’s departure from AFC Richmond to return home to Kansas. While the plot details for the new season remain under wraps, Sudeikis hinted at a new theme, stating, “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Alongside Sudeikis, options have been picked up for several key cast members, including Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. However, Apple TV+ has yet to officially confirm the full returning lineup.

Season 4 will also see some changes behind the scenes, with veteran TV producer Jack Burditt (30 Rock, Modern Family) joining as an executive producer. Other longtime collaborators, including Brendan Hunt (who played Coach Beard), Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence, remain involved in the creative process.

Since its debut in 2020, Ted Lasso has been a critical and commercial hit, earning 61 Emmy nominations and 13 wins, including multiple awards for Outstanding Comedy Series. Its feel-good message resonated deeply during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it one of Apple TV+’s most beloved originals.

The show’s third season, which aired in 2023, appeared to be its conclusion, leading to widespread uncertainty over its future. However, persistent fan demand—and Apple’s continued support—have paved the way for another season.

With AFC Richmond’s fate hanging in the balance and Ted’s future uncertain, the question remains: will he return to England, or is a new chapter about to unfold?

Apple TV+ has yet to announce a release date for Ted Lasso Season 4.

With the 78th Cannes Film Festival just weeks away, the race to secure a coveted spot in the official selection is heating up. A-list directors, including Spike Lee, Wes Anderson, Jim Jarmusch, Kristen Stewart, and Richard Linklater, are all vying for competition slots, setting the stage for what is expected to be a high-profile festival.

Big Names in Contention

While the official lineup remains under wraps, industry insiders suggest that Cannes 2025 will be a major cinematic event, marking what one source called “the first true post-strike Cannes.” Among the most anticipated entries is Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother, starring Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, and Tom Waits, which has already secured a spot in the competition.

Richard Linklater is also in the mix with Nouvelle Vague, a French-language film exploring the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless and the birth of the French New Wave. Meanwhile, Spike Lee is expected to bring his A24-backed thriller Highest 2 Lowest, a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, starring Denzel Washington.

Wes Anderson, a Cannes regular, is rumored to return with The Phoenician Scheme, a family drama featuring Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett Johansson. Kristen Stewart, making her directorial debut, has submitted The Chronology of Water, an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir, starring Imogen Poots.

Ari Aster’s Eddington, a Western black comedy starring Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix, and Gregg Araki’s erotic thriller I Want Your Sex, starring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, are also among the films speculated to be in the running.

International Filmmakers and Surprise Contenders

Beyond Hollywood, Cannes is expected to showcase a strong selection of international films. The Dardenne brothers could return with The Young Mother’s Home, while Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, starring Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård, is another strong contender. Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent, a political thriller starring Wagner Moura, and Julia Ducournau’s highly anticipated Alpha, following her Palme d’Or-winning Titane, may also be part of the lineup.

Russian filmmaker Kirill Serebrennikov is expected to return with The Disappearance of Josef Mengele, a chilling adaptation of Olivier Guez’s novel about the fugitive Nazi doctor. Meanwhile, Cannes could welcome Resurrection, a sci-fi thriller from Chinese director Bi Gan, starring Jackson Yee and Shu Qi.

Uncertain but Possible

Some high-profile films remain in the “maybe” category. Luca Guadagnino’s thriller After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, and Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice have both been rumored but not confirmed. Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, is also a possibility.

There is also speculation that Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning could premiere out of competition, potentially aligning with its theatrical release on May 21.

Not Happening This Year

Despite widespread speculation, several highly anticipated films will not be premiering at Cannes. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled project, and Celine Song’s Materialists are confirmed to be skipping the festival. Other films missing from the Croisette include Luc Besson’s Dracula, Paul Greengrass’ The Lost Bus, and Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson.

With final selections yet to be locked in, all eyes are now on Cannes artistic director Thierry Frémaux as he curates a lineup that will define this year’s festival. If the current buzz is any indication, Cannes 2025 is shaping up to be an event filled with major talent, exciting debuts, and fierce competition. The official announcement is expected in mid-April.
