Solutions are urgently needed to address this situation, including debt relief that will enable countries to finance basic education in the years ahead.

 35.
An estimated 53% of children in low- and middle-income countries lacked these basic skills—a proportion that could rise to 63% following the crisis. In the long run, this educational deprivation could cost the current generation of students $10 trillion in future earnings.

 36.
The immediate effects of the pandemic on education are equally devastating: the economic recession caused by COVID-19 could push up to 150 million people into extreme poverty by 2021—

 37.
We must act now. Without vigorous efforts, educational inequalities will widen to breaking point.

 38.
If we fail to address this debt issue today, we will deprive a whole generation of children of their right to education and the opportunity for them and their families to lead prosperous lives.

 39.
The Debt Service Suspension Initiative, adopted by the G20 earlier this year, has put in place temporary measures that have freed up fiscal space to finance urgent needs. related to the coronavirus. But without more lasting relief provisions, the outlook for poverty—and educational outcomes—remains bleak.

 40.
This includes amending overly protective legislation for creditors, which hinders debt reduction efforts.

 41.
“If we fail to address this debt issue today, we will deprive a whole generation of children of their right to education and the opportunity for them and their families to lead prosperous lives.”

 42.
President of the World Bank Group

 43.
Working with low- and middle-income countries, the World Bank is working to accelerate the return of children to school and lay the foundation for more resilient, equitable, and higher-quality education systems.

 44.
bridging the digital divide to facilitate the effective use of online tools for blended learning and reduce major inequalities in education systems;

 45.
encourage countries to accelerate their investments in teacher qualifications through practical training aimed at strengthening learning and skills;

 46.
ensure that education is adapted to the living conditions of families and guarantee the continuity of learning in the classroom and in communities;

 47.
include education in more general policies of investment and protection of young people, in particular through provisions to combat sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.

 48.
Governments around the world are addressing this challenge with new strategies and innovations. Jordan, the Philippines, and Turkey, for example, are developing television and digital content to reach more children at home.

 49.
Rwanda has used radio and sign language to increase accessibility. Pakistan is providing access to online platforms for over a million students, while Brazil is strengthening internet connectivity and digital learning materials.

 50.
In Guyana, our work focuses on essential skills to facilitate students’ transition from one year to the next, but also on teacher training and the revision of national examinations to take into account public health issues and lost time.

 51.
The World Bank is thus active in 62 countries, mobilizing a total of 11.5 billion dollars for new or restructured projects covering the entire education cycle, from preschool to higher education. To date, COVID-19-related initiatives have reached more than 400 million students and at least 16 million teachers.

 52.
Learning outcomes are one of the foundations of human capital, which drives growth and productivity in countries. The hard-won gains in this area over the past decade—as evidenced by the 2020 edition of our Human Capital Index report—are at risk.

 53.
That’s why, during the first 100 days of our pandemic response, nearly half of all our operational commitments—a total of $16.7 billion—were allocated to education and health, two priority sectors for human capital.

 54.
Extending debt relief, combined with optimizing tax collection and more effective prioritization and management of public spending, will free up resources in developing countries to educate their populations and rebuild their economies.

The post Four steps to achieving equitable education first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 70.

According to a study conducted by Gilbert Dizon and Daniel Tang of Himeji Dokkyo University in Japan, digital flashcards are highly complementary to paper flashcards. While writing flashcards helps you memorize information perfectly, reviewing them with a flashcard app allows you to leverage spaced repetition and the Leitner system to learn them effortlessly and over time.

 71.
And thanks to our Flash 2.0, you no longer need to choose between digital or paper flashcards! Our flashcards work with our app, SCRIBZEE, which will allow you to scan them, then review them wherever and whenever you want!

 72.
Discover flashcards for a top memory

 73.
SCRIBZEE incorporates an algorithm based on the Leitner method that will simplify your learning! So, what exactly is the Leitner method? At the beginning, all the flashcards are in box #1. When you answer a card correctly, it is sent to box #2, and so on, until you arrive in box 5 where all the flashcards are known.

 74.
Obviously, the cards you don’t answer correctly stay in box #1, or go back a box so you can review them more often.

 75.
In short, the Leitner method will allow you to check the state of your knowledge, then consolidate it through targeted repetition based on your level of memorization for each piece of knowledge learned. The more solid your knowledge of a flashcard, the more spaced out its repetition will be.

 76.
According to the forgetting curve (seen at the beginning of the article), the more you repeat the same concept, the more space you can space out your revisions. Conversely, a new concept or one you’re a bit unsure about will be repeated to you often, until you know it perfectly!

 77.
Review Mode : To learn with SCRIBZEE, use Review Mode : it will allow you to use the Leitner method! Flashcards will be suggested to you as long as you don’t know them very well. Success guaranteed!

 78.
Quiz Mode: Switch to Quiz Mode before a test, an exam, or your competitive exams. You’ll test your knowledge with random questions that cover everything you need to know, regardless of where you are in your learning. This way, you’ll know exactly where you stand before your test, and it’s super fun! Either swipe left or swipe right to find out if you “know” a particular concept.

 79.
Summary of our 7 memorization techniques to remember everything easily

 80.
You now know 7 techniques that will help you better retain everything you learn. We recommend taking the time to test them out to see which ones work best for you!

 81.
One thing is certain, memorization is above all a question of repetition, learn it once, but above all remember to refresh your knowledge regularly. This is the secret to anchoring it in the long term! If you know other memorization techniques and would like us to tell you about them, let us know in the comments

The post How can digital technology help you memorize? first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 97.

Are you planning to deliver a training course and ensure its success? You’ve come to the right place, as we’re going to look at several key tips for designing an effective and memorable program . From preparation to student follow-up, including technical and human qualities , each piece of advice in this article is a step towards improving your educational delivery. If you follow these steps, your learners will leave your classes with great enthusiasm and will have acquired up to 70% of the program for each course. So, are you ready to give your apprentices the best?

 98.
How to prepare effective training?

 99.
Ready to set up your training course, but wondering where to start? We’ve compiled six key steps to creating the perfect training program, because delivering quality training requires careful planning .

 100.
Define the training objectives

 101.
Indeed, the objectives can vary from the acquisition of specific knowledge to the improvement of practical skills.

 102.
For example, if you are providing project management training, your objectives might include understanding project management methodologies and developing planning and communication skills if you are addressing an audience that is already familiar with the subject.

 103.
Define procedures for good organization

 104.
Training organizations know that good organization is essential (for example, to more easily obtain Qualiopi certification ). You must therefore define an appropriate policy and inform your learners of the different modalities from the beginning of the academic course.

 105.
This involves:

 106.
to provide the necessary equipment,

 107.
to define how work will be graded (homework, practical work, exams, etc.)

 108.
to determine the duration of the sessions,

 109.
to plan breaks,

 110.
to manage absences, delays, possible postponements

 111.
By planning ahead in these areas, you ensure that the training environment offers the best possible conditions for both learners and trainers. This is particularly important in the context of vocational training and the various certifications that may be available in the future.

 112.
Think about the administrative part of the training

 113.
Always with the objective of having organized and high-quality courses, but also of ensuring the smooth legal progress of your training and strengthening its credibility, you must also think about:

 114.
This essential document details everything: objectives, duration, and cost. It’s essential to ensure compliance.

 115.
Training Completion Certificate: At the end of the course, give each participant a certificate. This is proof that they have attended and completed the training.

 116.
Comply with legal obligations: You must know your legal obligations. Declare your activity, comply with quality standards, and protect your learners’ data.

 117.
We’ll see at the end of the article how a tool like Teachizy can help you.

 118.
Once the terms and conditions are defined and the administrative concepts are well thought out, focus on the content you are going to provide .

 119.
Choose the content and areas of training

 120.
Start by clarifying what you want your learners to achieve by the end of the training. To do this, review the objectives defined in step one.

 121.
What are the essential topics that need to be covered to achieve your goals? Identify these topics and gather the resources and information needed to teach them.

 122.
Once you’ve identified the key topics, organize them logically . This makes learning easier and helps learners build their knowledge incrementally .

 123.
Make sure that each part of the course connects and builds on the previous one, to do this, follow the advice in step 5 when creating a training plan .

The post Complete Guide to Delivering Perfect Training first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 139.

If you think you don’t have a good memory, think again: you can definitely improve it with the right training and methods! Whether you’re a high school student, university student, preparatory class student, or a graduate school student, here are 7 easy and fun memorization techniques to give yourself the best possible chance of success during your studies.

 140.
Methods that work to memorize better

 141.
Scientists say it takes at least 10,000 hours of practice to go from novice to expert on a given subject. So don’t be afraid to practice to get certain concepts stuck in your head!

 142.
1 Spaced Repetition

 143.
The German philosopher Ebbinghaus highlighted that our brain needs repetition to retain information: if learned information is not repeated several times over time, it gradually forgets it. Spaced repetition gives excellent results for long-term memorization and it is scientifically proven!

 144.
The more regularly you review, the more likely you are to progress and retain knowledge continuously. In practice, here’s how to learn your lessons based on your forgetting curve: the first day is spent learning. The next day, review what you’ve learned, then repeat it 3 days later, 7 days later, 3 weeks later, then 3 months later, 1 year later, and 3 years later. By the end of this sequence of spaced repetition, you’ll have perfectly memorized the information.

 145.
All this to tell you that memorizing is really a question of practice , and not any innate talent… Repetition at regular and spaced intervals is the real secret. So don’t give up! “Never Give Up”, as they say at Oxford

 146.
You can also incorporate the Leitner method into your revision. There are flashcard apps that can make your life easier thanks to an algorithm based on this method; we’ll tell you more about it later in the article!

 147.
2 Cross-revisions

 148.
It is in your best interest to organize revision sessions with several people , in person or even remotely!

 149.
How to do this? Build a group of 2 or 3 serious classmates, with whom you won’t argue (too much). Then decide on a shared revision program together, such as going over a practical physics-chemistry case study . Start by reviewing the course separately during the first half of the session, then during the second half, ask each other questions and answer each other’s questions.

 150.
Result: not only will you have still done your revisions on your own, but in addition the cross-revisions will have allowed you to explain the complex concepts of the course and therefore to remember them better.

 151.
Many scientific studies have also proven that explaining a concept to someone allows you to understand it better yourself and therefore, ultimately, to remember it better.

 152.
The icing on the cake is that it will also prepare you for the increasingly frequent group work you will do as you get closer to finishing your studies and entering the world of work! Isn’t life wonderful?

 153.
3 Effective memorization method: the mind map

 154.
Mind mapping is a surefire technique for better remembering your lectures when they have a complex structure . It helps you create connections between parts of your lecture or be more creative in your note-taking.

 155.
This will represent the initial idea of a concept: you can write in it. Then draw another bubble that you connect to the first with an arrow or another branch to represent another facet of the concept, and so on. As you go along, you will obtain a map that visually highlights the links between each idea .

 156.
Reading this map regularly will help you remember concepts from your course more easily. You can use mind mapping to think about an essay topic, for example, or to summarize the structure of a complex course ; it allows you to have an overview and take a step back.

 157.
4 Classic Memory Trick: The Mind Palace Technique

 158.
This memorization technique, which was used to remember long speeches in ancient times, has proven itself. The hippocampus area of the brain stores memories of our lived experiences easily and for a very long time . So why not use them to learn new knowledge? The secret is to make associations of ideas by creating your own context .

 159.
Take a familiar place like your apartment. Walk from room to room, imagining that each room stores information. Imagine a little story as you do so . Don’t hesitate to add sensations or crazy details, because the more detailed your story is, the better you’ll remember it. This Sherlock Holmes-esque memorization method is ideal for memorizing capital cities from your geopolitics class, for example. 175.

This webinar aims to answer the following question: what are the best methods for helping students with the greatest difficulties succeed?

 176.
It’s been known since the 1960s that students from disadvantaged backgrounds perform less well in school than others, but there are exceptions to this rule. So what’s happening in these schools?

 177.
The educational context

 178.
Students in difficulty, those at risk of failure, are those most likely to drop out of school. There are risk factors with greater weights, the most significant risk being academic delay. The number one factor predicting dropout is academic failure . Young people leave school because they are failing, so to counter dropout, we must aim for academic success, especially for students who are struggling the most.

 179.
Often a student in difficulty has both difficulties, behavior and learning, so it is necessary to intervene on both at the same time.Educational research must be based on evidence, that is, practices validated by scientific evidence.

 180.
Experimental research combines level 2 + level 3.

 181.
A meta-analysis is a quantitative synthesis of level 2 + 3 research, a mega-analysis is a synthesis of meta-analyses (therefore with a very high level of evidence)

 182.
The teacher effect

 183.
John Hattie conducted a mega-analysis in 2009 that has become a classic in education. It brings together 800 meta-analyses, 50,000 studies, for approximately 250 million students. The question posed by this mega-analysis is: what are the factors that influence student success? In the end, 138 factors were identified as having an impact on student achievement. These factors are grouped into six broad categories:

 184.
The category that comes first is the teacher, so it is the factor that has the greatest weight in the success of the students.

 185.
What is an effective school? It’s a school located in a disadvantaged neighborhood whose students’ academic performance matches or exceeds that of students in more affluent neighborhoods. These schools exist. What happens in these schools? It has been highlighted that it’s the teams, the staff, who make the difference. These staff have principles and beliefs:

 186.
So what helps students learn is the teacher with their methods and when they work in collaboration with other teachers to harmonize practices. This is how we move from an effective teacher to an effective school.

 187.
Effective teaching

 188.
A mega-analysis carried out by Steve Bissonnette et al. published in 2010 in the journal RRAA asks the question of what are the effective teaching strategies promoting fundamental learning (reading, writing, mathematics) among students in difficulty

 189.
This mega-analysis synthesizes 11 meta-analyses representing approximately 30,000 students. The results show that two teaching methods stand out from all others:

 190.
Explicit instruction is a pedagogy that emerged from the observation of teachers recognized as effective. It is not a pedagogical theory. It was highlighted in 1976 by Barak Rosenshine through classroom observations of teachers who succeed with their students.

 191.
Explicit teaching is broken down into 3 stages

 192.
Step 1: Modeling : This involves making explicit and visible any implicit or invisible reasoning to the student. The teacher explains and demonstrates.

 193.
step 2 guided practice : here the teacher checks that the students have understood and gives feedback on the task completed by the student. Reciprocal teaching can be done here

 194.
step 3 independent practice : the student reinvests alone what he has understood from the modeling and the guided practice

 195.
The principle is that you never let a student work on a task for long without ensuring their success.

 196.
Reciprocal teaching is mutual teaching, the teacher demonstrates then the students get into pairs and one of the two students explains to the other how to do it, we speak here of “mini teacher”

 197.
Studies have also shown that even if the teacher provides explicit teaching, he is not guaranteed to achieve 100% success with his students. According to a second mega analysis by John Hattie published in 2012, it appears that if a teacher does a “good job” in terms of classroom management, explicit teaching, … Despite the good teaching received, about 20% of students do not succeed. We can break down this 20% as follows: for 15% of these students, additional and targeted interventions are required, and for the remaining 5%, intensive and individualized interventions are required because these students often have dys disorders.

The post What are the best methods for helping struggling students succeed? first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 213.

High-quality care and education are associated with short- and long-term cognitive, social, and emotional benefits for young children’s development. Two criteria for measuring quality are: process variables (e.g., the nature of interactions between the child and adult caregivers); and 2) structural variables (such as policy-regulated .A curriculum, or the content of what children are taught, should not be overlooked: it is a fulcrum that serves as the foundation for quality pedagogy.

 214.
Subject

 215.
Despite its central role in quality, curriculum has been conflated and often confused with other related issues (e.g., beliefs, theories about learning and pedagogy, and skills and standards). However, curriculum differs from these constructs. enthusiastic learners whose natural curiosity produces rich learning trajectories; (b) children learn in integrated ways, and therefore subject-specific learning (such as mathematics, science, and language) is best accomplished through experiences they have (e.g., cooking, gardening, building); and (c) children need to be exposed to all areas of development – physical and motor, language, cognitive, social and emotional – so that no one area takes precedence over others.

 216.
Curriculum is also different from learning theories and pedagogies, but it is closely related to them, which could lead to different instructional strategies. Behaviorist theories of child development often lead to didactic models of direct instruction in which teachers direct learning by presenting specific facts to large groups of children. Behaviorist theories advance pedagogy and curricula that allow children to direct their own learning and learn at their own pace. Constructivist theories, on the other hand, adopt a pedagogy in which children are active partners in their sociocultural environment, including teachers and peers.

 217.
It aims to encourage learning processes (e.g., attention, observation), cognitive skills (such as reasoning, comparing/contrasting, classifying), and the acquisition of specific information (such as the names of numbers and letters of the alphabet).

 218.
Therefore, it is necessary to clearly understand the objectives of the curriculum and its unique contribution to early childhood education and care. Problems

 219.
Several major issues still complicate the design, delivery, and evaluation of an educational program. First, ambiguity persists regarding the definitions and differences between curricula, curriculum frameworks, and pedagogy. Second, the desired outcomes of a program differ: some emphasize a content-based focus while others adopt a holistic orientation. Finally, in light of the previous two issues, it is very difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program, since its effects are entirely linked to social .

 220.
Research context

 221.
In this effort to address these challenges and achieve better outcomes for young children, curriculum research is thriving. One major area of study is comparing the effectiveness of a content-specific curriculum versus a more holistic curriculum. The findings largely support a holistic focus that considers children’s physical, social, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development and promotes overall development and learning. Research also simultaneously supports a content-specific curriculum as a solution to prepare young children for school (i.e., developing literacy, and arithmetic skills). 6-8 The scope of curriculum research is expanding to focus on how children approach learning and their executive functions. Recent studies have examined the relationship between curriculum and family, environmental, and contextual variables, including: (i) the importance of gender and ethnicity and their impact on learning and development; (ii) the maintenance of diverse environments that respect family values, cultures, and languages; (iii) the use and influence of digital technologies on children’s development; (iv) workforce development, support, retention, and compensation; and (v) the impact of systemic variables (e.g., governance, funding, accountability) on the quality, equitable distribution, sustainability, and effectiveness of services. Finally, new approaches to research are emerging, with a growing focus on qualitative and combined methods. These changes in the way curriculum is studied reflect a widespread recognition, among professionals and policymakers alike, that children’s learning must be placed and understood within a broader context that includes families .

The post Effective Preschool Teaching Programs first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

In reality, a career is made up of all the different positions you will hold and the work you will accomplish over time. Building a strong career, as with anything else, requires a solid foundation. And that starts with a plan. Whether you’re new to Canada or building your career after many years here, a career plan can be a roadmap for your future success.

 238.
Prior to her role at Balzac’s, Christine held a series of increasingly senior roles, leading teams in Canada, the UK, and Europe.

 239.
It offers advice to Pan-Asians looking to start and/or develop a career and helps inform five steps to charting a successful career path.

 240.
STEP 1: Define your career goals

 241.
Specific: Clearly and specifically identify your goal, including what you want to achieve and why.

 242.
Measurable: Set clear criteria to determine and track your progress.

 243.
Achievable: Your goal should have a realistic chance of success.

 244.
Relevant: Make sure your career goal is important and relevant to you and aligned with other goals you have.

 245.
Keep in mind that there is a difference between career aspirations and career plans. Your career aspiration may be the long-term goal you are pursuing, while your career plan is your means of achieving your aspiration. Focusing on aspirations rather than plans at this early stage is an important way to develop your career north star, which will guide you as you move through the next steps below.

 246.
STEP 2: Identify your career options

 247.
Once you’ve set your goals, you can begin mapping out next steps and strategies. You’re now in a position to identify career options that align with your goals. This may not be obvious, and Cruz-Clarke emphasizes the importance of developing connections—people who can help you determine which options and opportunities are right for you. “Really being able to dive in and develop authentic connections is incredibly important,” she says, crediting her ability to develop connections as a factor that has set her apart in her career.

 248.
how to navigate them in the moment, whether it was for a specific business situation I was working on, or a career decision I was trying to make.”

 249.
Finding mentors within the Pan-Asian community can be particularly beneficial as you navigate the career landscape in Canada, as they can share highly relevant experiences and perspectives with you as you develop your career plan.

 250.
STEP 3: Identify careers that match your skills

 251.
To choose a field you think you’ll succeed in, consider the skills you bring to the table—and remember to consider both the technical and soft skills you’ve acquired over time. And, if you’ve worked outside of Canada, be sure to tap into the perspectives you brought with you and use them to your advantage.

 252.
For newcomers in particular, she offers this advice:

 253.
“As you continue to prepare for each new challenge, being able to translate the experiences, qualifications, and everything else you bring with you as an advantage to your potential employer is also important, as employers in Canada aren’t necessarily as familiar with the context of where you come from as you are,” she says.

 254.
“So being able to articulate what that looks like in Canada, what some of the parallels are, what some of the cross-cutting challenges are that you’ve faced over time, and may also face here, will help you be more successful in landing your next role in Canada.”

 255.
STEP 4: Evaluate and compare career paths

 256.
Once you’ve determined your options and identified careers that match your skills, you’re in a good position to consider the options available to you. While one option may require you to obtain more education, for example, it may have higher earning potential. Or there may be a path you can take right away, but it requires relocation. Perhaps there’s a path that’s more challenging but better aligns with your core values.

 257.
Cruz-Clarke says acting with curiosity and being a “champion of possibility” can help you stand out and achieve your goals—whether you’re building your career or looking to advance.

 258.
Cruz-Clarke emphasizes the importance of “learning to be comfortable with discomfort, and in particular, how to reframe that discomfort as growth,” she explains. “That’s the best advice I can give to anyone looking to grow or even just starting their career. And when I look back, it’s those roles throughout my career that I knew absolutely nothing about on day one, but continued to learn and grow with that role, that have given me the most positive momentum and the greatest growth and satisfaction.”

The post 4 Steps to Effective Career Planning first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 274.

No matter how much time you spend learning your lessons, you feel like you’re in a sieve. When it’s time to present your knowledge on exams, you wonder where the 15 formulas you learned that morning went! What if you changed your tactics? Here are 7 ways to learn your lessons effectively and get good grades

 275.
1 – By writing

 276.
Handwriting has unsuspected side effects—beyond wrist cramps—and numerous studies have demonstrated its beneficial effect on memory. And at Oxford, we’re convinced that writing is already memorizing !

 277.
One example is that of Norwegian neurologist Audrey van der Meer, who demonstrates that cursive handwriting stimulates brain activity and triggers learning in the brain .

 278.
Writing to learn is effective because it activates different areas of your brain and combines several elements of thinking:

 279.
retrieval : you actively seek knowledge, without memory support

 280.
elaboration : you connect new information to old information, already stored in your memory

 281.
and finally, generation : you reformulate ideas in your own words.

 282.
The hand scores less, but better!

 283.
Science says it again: a study by two American researchers, Mueller and Oppenheimer, has shown that students who take their notes digitally often perform worse than those who take them by hand.

 284.
It’s pretty logical: the more you type, the less you think! Since you write faster and more mechanically, you don’t think as much about the content that will be in your course and you don’t select the information to process.

 285.
On the other hand, handwritten notes encourage you to preselect information , rephrase it , and write it in your own words—or even use abbreviations. There’s nothing more effective than this when it comes to anchoring information in your memory.

 286.
If you really prefer taking notes on the computer, consider rewriting the lecture on paper when you get home.

 287.
2 – Take ownership of the information

 288.
Are you having trouble absorbing the information in your course as it was delivered by your teacher? Try to make it your own. This is called storytelling : you use your imagination!

 289.
Create stories, rhymes, acronyms, mnemonic phrases… Anything that can help you take raw information out of its context and place it in another one that is much more comfortable for you.

 290.
For example, the mind palace method is ideal!

 291.
Why does it work? As humans, we need to stimulate ourselves and create stories to arouse emotions within us. This feeling, which is unique to you, will allow you to identify with characters and anchor new information in reality.

 292.
3 – Simplify them

 293.
Simplifying and popularizing information will greatly help you to take ownership of it. Successfully learning a course is a big step, but you still need to know how to present it in a way that your examiner can understand. To do this, you have two options:

 294.
The solo option with the blank sheet technique. It’s simple: after learning your lesson, simply write down everything you remember on a sheet of paper. Then, you can compare it with your original lesson and see what you’re missing. It’s ideal for pinpointing your difficulties!

 295.
The social option with the Feynman technique . It simply consists of popularizing your course to make it understandable by anyone: your grandmother, your little brother… At the same time, you make sure that you have understood it yourself. Win-win!

 296.
What do the blank sheet technique and Feynman’s technique have in common? They invite you to explore your knowledge and shape it in your own way to better convey it later.

 297.
4 – By testing your knowledge

 298.
In addition, you must absolutely ensure that you have understood and are ready to use what you have learned in the event of a surprise test or exam.

 299.
As a general rule, always try to ask yourself 5 very basic questions about the information you have learned ( what is it, what is it for, how, with what, why, when, where? etc. ). If there is one that is blocking you, make sure you resolve this problem before going further!

 300.
Are the basics laid? Perfect! Now, refine the questions , choosing more specific and challenging ones for you.

 301.
You can then move on to flashcards which are specifically designed to test your knowledge.

 302.
What are flashcards? They’re double-sided cards that will quickly become your best revision allies. You can write a question on the front and the answer on the back. When you need to test your knowledge after reviewing a lesson, you can take out your flashcards and guess their hidden sides.

The post 4 Ways to Learn Effectively first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 318.

Educational literature is full of teaching methods and this “science” is constantly evolving to the point that educational engineers are developing new teaching concepts based on new research.

 319.
We would therefore like to point out to our readers that there are many ways to approach the subject of teaching methods. In this article, we have relied primarily on the work of professors and teaching assistants at the University of Geneva.

 320.
There is therefore no single, unanimous definition of a teaching method. According to Philippe Mérieu, a French researcher and specialist in educational sciences, there are three definitions of a teaching method:

 321.
A teaching tool or instrument used to achieve specific objectives.

 322.
Generally speaking, let us remember that a teaching method is a means used to develop learning and to achieve a specific educational objective .

 323.
Finally, let us point out that any teaching method is subject to evolution and must be the subject of ongoing reflection after each training session. Indeed, the trainer must ensure that their approach is adapted to their learners and that it aims to facilitate learning.

 324.
The different teaching methods

 325.
All methods are based on initial postulates, require means of implementation and adopt a mode of operation.

 326.
The expository method

 327.
The expository method considers knowledge to be knowledge and beneficial to learners. Similarly, it equates work with know-how that benefits trainees. Finally, it assigns specific roles to the trainer/teacher and the learner. The former holds all the knowledge, while the latter is completely ignorant and must learn everything.

 328.
What about the methods used? The trainer or teacher is the only one who can transmit their knowledge in the form of a presentation. This is typical of a university lecture where the learner must assimilate knowledge. Assessments are carried out only after the learner has been evaluated, and only the trainer is authorized to address the trainees. Assessment has only two purposes: reward or punishment.

 329.
How does a training session using this method work? The trainer uses an oral presentation or written material to explain or demonstrate learning concepts. The learner or student simply memorizes the information by taking notes during the training session. To ensure that the learners have fully absorbed the new knowledge, the trainer questions the students after the presentation is complete.

 330.
The affirmative method

 331.
The affirmative method is based on the same assumptions as the expository method discussed above. However, the means of implementation vary and the roles assigned to trainers and learners differ.

 332.
Thus, the teacher/trainer presents an operation or procedure and shows each of the steps to the learners, specifying what to do and how to do it. The trainer also explains why, and has the learners repeat it. The trainees learn by reproducing the same actions as the trainer.

 333.
This method is often used in tutorials because it requires a demonstration. The affirmative method therefore involves three steps: showing in order to demonstrate something, doing something to experience something, and saying something to reformulate it.

 334.
The interrogative method

 335.
The learner has the necessary prerequisites to follow the training. He acquires new knowledge by answering questions posed by the trainer.

 336.
Questioning is the main method used by the trainer, and this varies depending on the answers provided by the learners. There is constant feedback between a student and their trainer.

 337.
In a training session, the interrogative method translates into appropriate questioning by the trainer, which will lead the learner to construct his own knowledge by establishing links between different elements, to give them the meaning he wants, to formulate his thoughts.

 338.
The active or discovery method

 339.
Because it significantly alters the roles of trainers and learners, the active method runs counter to the assumptions of other teaching methods. Thus, it considers that knowledge is constructed, not learned, and its starting point is action. It is from action that a learner will engage in reflection on a given subject.

 340.
Furthermore, knowledge and skills can only be acquired in 3 cases:

 341.
If the learner engages in this process himself. In educational literature, this is referred to as “intrinsic motivation for learning,” meaning that the learner is motivated because it provides him with a certain satisfaction and not because there is a reward (e.g., remuneration) or any other external factor likely to influence him.

 342.
Whether the learner is involved in a collaborative or cooperative learning effort (in educational literature, different schools provide different definitions of these concepts.)

 343.
If the learner is engaged in an action-experience process and can thus test in real time what he undertakes and validate or invalidate his hypotheses himself, or by debating them with other learners.

 344.
During training using the active method, different means exist to enable the acquisition of knowledge, including case studies, simulations, role plays, or group projects. The trainer does not necessarily hold all the knowledge and may even be, in some cases, only a guide or a mediator.

The post Teaching methods and tools in vocational training first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.

 360.

Project-based learning, which emerged in the 1920s along with other active methods, was brought back into the spotlight about thirty years ago in response to society’s trend toward “project-based thinking” Several types of projects coexisted at school, such as educational projects (which go beyond the school framework), pedagogical projects (included in the relationship between teachers and students), institutional projects (to bring together all local stakeholders and from which educational projects are supposed to flow), and training projects (concerning students’ professional futures).

 361.
This dossier focuses primarily on educational projects, which are widely used in courses close to the world of work (vocational, technological, or higher education), but which are approached in different ways across all disciplines. Project-based learning places pupils or students in the position of responsible actors in their project, which leads them to collectively seek solutions to the problems posed by the concrete realization of the project and thus gradually build their learning and their own personal and professional project.

 362.
How can we address the difficulties of implementing this method in the classroom, at the school level, or in relation to disciplinary content? These questions are addressed in this report, through examples of the application of project-based learning and research results highlighting in particular the key role of the teacher in structuring the project and in supporting and assisting pupils during its implementation.

 363.
Bibliography

 364.
Among the many methods that can improve student motivation, project-based learning has been a frequently cited method for several decades. It has become a daily practice in vocational and higher education, and has been introduced into other types of education in certain countries .

 365.
Project-based learning is not new, however, as it began to be applied at the beginning of the 20th century , returning in the 1960s or 1970s depending on the country, and discreetly but surely establishing itself in the educational field over the last thirty years.

 366.
This renewed interest in project-based learning is based on the possibilities it offers to venture beyond disciplines, and thus to mobilize students’ cross-disciplinary skills and to use ICT at several levels (to facilitate information research, management of the project itself or exchanges with peers, or even self-assessment and co-assessment). This learning approach is also part of a global framework for integrating the initiatives of stakeholders around their school project, an essential element of autonomy policies. Finally, it seeks to familiarize students with the complexity of today’s professional world, while helping them to build a personal and professional project as they progress through their schooling.

 367.
However, this teaching method does not always appear easy to apply, particularly in terms of the time and investment required to complete the project. Learning through problem-solving is often preferred, which is sometimes wrongly confused with the project-based approach. Why is it so difficult to implement? Does it provide added value for students in their development and learning? These questions are at the heart of this dossier, which will attempt to clarify the place and specificities of project-based learning among the so-called student-centered approaches and to provide examples of its implementation at different school levels, through some research results on the effects of project-based pedagogy on learning, as well as its application difficulties.

 368.
The project from (almost) all angles

 369.
The concept of a project is widely used in the education system and covers very different realities, such as school projects, educational action projects, students’ personal projects, etc. Everyone has their own idea of what a project is and how it can be carried out. The objective may be to concretely prepare students for their future career, to motivate them through a material achievement, or to encourage teachers from different disciplines to work as a team, or to develop a skills-based approach.

 370.
Let’s take a closer look at this concept and how it has become established in the school world, before looking more specifically at project-based learning, an active method that offers a lot of hope for student motivation and

The post PROJECTS FOR BETTER LEARNING? first appeared on https://educationcareernews.com.
