<p> The triumphant Naboo victory over the Trade Federation felt great in <strong><em>Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace</em></strong>, but it turns out George Lucas rewrote that victory only three years later. The Trade Federation invasion of Naboo was a huge surprise to the galaxy, to the point where the Galactic Senate was able to be convinced not to believe it. In the end, however, an alliance between the humans of Naboo and the Gungan forces were able to fight off the Federation, which was to be punished in the Senate.</p>
<p> The end of the movie even involves the Trade Federation’s officials being shuttled off Naboo, with Captain Panaka stating plainly “<em>I think you can kiss your Trade franchise goodbye</em>.” Nute Gunray and the rest of the Federation will have to testify in the courts, and everyone’s certain they will lose their business. In the very next movie, however, one specific line reverses all of this, and proves a significant point about the Galactic Republic and its corruption.</p>

<p> In <em>Star Wars</em> canon, Nute Gunray did indeed go to trial for his actions in <em>The Phantom Menace</em>. It wasn’t until <em>Star Wars: Episode II – </em><em>Attack of the Clones</em>, however, that the outcome of those trials was revealed. In the Naboo throne room scene, characters discuss the Separatist crisis and how Padmé is dealing with it. During the conversation, governor Sio Bibble says this line:</p>

<p> It’s outrageous! After four trials in the Supreme Court, Nute Gunray is still the viceroy of the Trade Federation! I feel the Senate is powerless to resolve this crisis.</p>

<p> Naboo was freed from the Federation in the first movie, but <strong>the bad guys were never punished</strong>. In fact, Nute Gunray appears in the next two <em>Star Wars </em>movies and in <em>Star Wars: </em><em>The Clone Wars</em>, cementing his loss on Naboo as negligible. This is on top of every other way that the bad guys won; Palpatine had become chancellor, Maul was replaced almost instantly by Count Dooku, and the Trade Federation absolutely got away with it.</p>

<p> The Galactic Republic’s lackluster response to the Trade Federation’s obvious crimes actually serves the story of the prequels in a genius way. It so clearly demonstrates that the issues facing the galaxy are systemic, ingrained in the corporate bureaucracy present at all levels of government. The Trade Federation gets away with it, because they’re a rich corporation with political sway. This seems to undermine the end of <strong><em>The Phantom Menace</em></strong>, but truly builds up the overall story of <em>Star Wars</em> in a much more subtle and profound way.</p>

<p><a href="https://metro.co.uk/tag/arsenal-fc/?ico=auto_link_sport_P1_LNK1" data-track="inline-tag-auto-link_article" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Arsenal</a> co-chairman Josh Kroenke has vowed to strengthen <a href="https://metro.co.uk/tag/mikel-arteta/?ico=auto_link_sport_P1_LNK2" data-track="inline-tag-auto-link_article" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Mikel Arteta</a>’s first team squad this <a href="https://metro.co.uk/tag/summer/?ico=auto_link_sport_P1_LNK3" data-track="inline-tag-auto-link_article" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">summer</a>, regardless of the outcome of the final day of the <a href="https://metro.co.uk/tag/premier-league/?ico=auto_link_sport_P1_LNK4" data-track="inline-tag-auto-link_article" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Premier League</a> season.</p>
<p><a href="https://metro.co.uk/2024/05/18/man-city-arsenal-need-win-premier-league-title-20864644/#:~:text=How%20can%20Arsenal%20win,rely%20on%20City%20dropping%20points." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Gunners retain a slim hope of a first title in 20 years</a>, but will require a favour from West Ham if they are to finally topple Manchester City and deny them a fourth straight crown.</p>
<p>Having already amassed more points than last season and set a club record for the number of wins in a single campaign, progress has undoubtedly been made again under Arteta.</p>
<p>Kroenke, the son of the club’s owner Stan Kroenke, insists the club will not stand still in their pursuit of football’s biggest prizes and hinted at another exciting summer of transfer activity. </p>
<p>He said: ‘While we are undoubtedly proud of the progress we have made, I want to be clear that no one at the club will stand still. However things finish today, we’re all working behind the scenes to move us forward – always forward – again.</p>
<p>‘There is so much that we want to achieve, both at home and in Europe, and we are focused on writing some exciting new stories and chapters that build on the history of Arsenal Football Club.</p>
<p>‘There have been so many stories and milestones across the season, shaped by so many of our players. </p>

<p>Thousands of Brits may have ‘silent killer’ hepatitis C after at least 30,000 were infected with unscreened blood during transfusions.</p>
<p>Around 2,000 people who received unscreened transfusions during the infected blood scandal between 1970 and 1991 may have no idea they have the disease which can lead to <a href="https://metro.co.uk/tag/cancer/?ico=auto_link_news_P2_LNK1" data-track="inline-tag-auto-link_article" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">cancer</a>. </p>
<p>The Infected Blood Inquiry has heard as many as 30,000 patients received tainted blood infected with either HIV or hepatitis because blood was not screened first.</p>
<p>Hepatitis C, which is known as the ‘silent killer’, shows few symptoms initially. </p>
<p>But for each year a person has the virus, their chances of dying from liver cirrhosis and related cancers increases.</p>
<p>Around 12,800 people in England have requested NHS home-testing kits in just over a week as the scandal is brought to light – compared to 2,300 in the entire month of April. </p>
<p>The UK was struggling to meet demands for blood-clotting treatments so imported supplies from the US, which included donations from drug users and prison inmates.</p>
<p>Blood donations only began being screened in 1991 – 18 months after the first virus was found in a laboratory. </p>

<p>Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus which, if left untreated, can cause liver cancer and liver failure.</p>
<p>It usually displays no symptoms until the virus causes enough damage to bring on liver disease.</p>
<p>Symptoms may include fatigue and difficulty concentrating and the virus is also linked to cardiovascular disease, mental health issues, kidney disease and musculoskeletal pain.</p>

<p>It is estimated 3,000 people have died due to receiving the tainted blood, and ministers have been accused of covering up the scandal. </p>

<p>Documents discovered by infected blood campaigners show how medical experts compared haemophiliac patients to <a href="https://metro.co.uk/2024/05/13/blood-scandal-victims-used-instead-expensive-chimpanzees-20813090/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">laboratory chimpanzees.</a></p>
<p>For those with haemophilia, injections were given under the guise of treatment – and without consent.</p>
<p>Roger Newman, 56, from Kent, was infected with hepatitis A and B between the ages of eight and ten after receiving infected Factor VIII blood products under the disguise of treatment for haemophilia – without consent or any conversations with doctors.</p>
<p>Out of the severe haemophiliacs infected, Roger is one of only around 20% who is still alive, he told Metro.co.uk.</p>

<p>He said how he has carried the ‘fear and embarrassment’ with him since the playground as he was warned not to share any cups or cutlery with others.</p>
<p>‘I felt I was living with a sense of shame from such a young age.’</p>
<p>But his ‘world collapsed’ at 15, when his mum told both him and his brother, who also had severe haemophilia, were diagnosed with HIV.</p>
<p>But the blood plasma, known as Factor VIII, was sold by pharmaceutical companies, mixed from tens of thousands of paid donors in the <a href="https://metro.co.uk/tag/us-news/?ico=auto_link_news_P17_LNK1" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">US</a>, including prisoners.</p>
<p>Kate Burt, chief executive of the Haemophilia Society, said that people in the haemophilia community hope the ‘truth will finally come out’ when the report is published.</p>
<p>She described the publication of the report as a ‘significant milestone’ for people with the blood disorder, but said that for many the scandal ‘will never end’.</p>

<p> <strong>Eloise and Cressida’s friendship is one of the biggest changes from <em>Romancing Mr. Bridgerton</em></strong>, as the two not only were never friends, but all the Bridgertons despised Cressida. Their friendship was clearly positive as Eloise and Cressida brought out the best in each other, being tough but fair and open about their problems, while also supporting each other despite their differences.</p>

<p> <em>Bridgerton</em> season 3, episode 4 very clearly showed how Colin’s scene interrupting Penelope and Lord Debling’s dance started the series of events ending in Colin and Penelope hooking up in the carriage. Indeed, without that scene, Debling wouldn’t have asked Penelope if she would have wanted Colin to have feelings for her, nor would have Penelope run away from the ball. However, the steamy carriage scene followed a completely different situation in <em>Romancing Mr. Bridgerton</em>.</p>

<p>AEW star Toni Storm left viewers gobsmacked on Saturday night when she appeared to strip naked on Collision.</p>
<p>The 28-year-old wrestler was born in New Zealand, moved to Australia aged 4, made her name on the UK wrestling scene and enjoyed a four-year stint with WWE until her exit in 2021.</p>
<p>She has truly discovered herself as Timeless Toni Storm in All Elite Wrestling, and she frequently has fans howling and gasping with her antics.</p>
<p>This week, the AEW Women’s Champion took things to an unexpected level as she played mind games with current rival Serena Deeb.</p>
<p>One week before they clash at Double or Nothing, Toni’s butler Luther stole Serena’s Deeb’s Dojo flag after her win over Anna Jay and took it to the top of the ramp.</p>
<p>Toni’s understudy Mariah May helped him hold the flag up, which was Toni’s cue to come out and stand behind the banner.</p>

<p>In a bid to get in her challenger’s head, she stripped naked behind the flag, and wrapped her bare body in it.</p>
<p>Naturally, nothing was shown on air – including exactly what was happening on the other side – but fans still couldn’t believe what they were seeing even with the implication of the steamy scene.</p>
