45.

A bill that could result in up to 15 years in prison for same-sex relationships was approved by the Iraqi parliament on Saturday.

 46.
A 1988 anti-prostitution statute will also be amended to condemn transgender individuals to three years in prison.

 47.
During a session when 170 out of 329 lawmakers attended, the legislation was adopted.

 48.
In a prior draft, same-sex relationships were to be punished with death.

 49.
However, the new rules give judges the authority to sentence defendants to anywhere from 10 to 15 years in jail.

 50.
In addition, they established a minimum seven-year prison sentence for “promoting” same-sex relationships and a one-to three-year sentence for men who “intentionally” behave like women.

 51.
The new law punishes transgender individuals and physicians who conduct gender reassignment surgery with up to three years in prison for “biological sex change based on personal desire and inclination.”

 71.

Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has started to reorganize the anti-graft organization.

 72.
Michael Nzekwe was named Chief of Staff by Olukoyede.

 73.
In addition, he designated zonal directors for each of the commission's fourteen zone commands.

 74.
Nzekwe is a course-one officer of the commission and an excellent investigator, attorney, and former commander of the EFCC's Ilorin Zonal Command, according to a statement on the organization's website.

 75.
He has worked for the Commission in a number of departments, including Servicom, the Department of Asset Forfeiture, the Department of Internal Affairs (now the Department of Ethics and Integrity), the Department of Operations (now the Department of Investigations), and the Legal and Prosecution Department.

 76.
An experienced administrator, he has participated in numerous domestic and international training programs, such as the Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) Advance Defense Intelligence Officers Course. His appointment is effective immediately, and he has started working.

 77.
“All of the Commission's zonal commands were elevated to the rank of departments under Olukoyede's reorganization and realignment of the EFCC, and each department was led by a director. To that end, each of the Zonal Commands now has 14 new directors leading them.

 78.
The EFCC Security Unit has also been elevated to a department with a seasoned official appointed as Director, Security and Chief Security official in order to strengthen and fortify the Commission's security architecture.

 79.
“A new department has also been established in the Executive Chairman's office, and it is led by Mr. Friday Ebelo, a former Makurdi Zonal Commander of the EFCC who also serves as the Director and Coordinator of Special Duties at the Commission's corporate headquarters.

 80.
There have been some modest departmental reorganizations at the headquarters, with the Department of Ethics and Integrity replacing the previous Department of Internal Affairs.

 81.
“The establishment of a new department to oversee the EFCC's preventive role is a significant aspect of the reorganization.

 82.
In an unprecedented step, Olukoyede established the Fraud Risk Assessment and Control Department to manage this crucial Commission task. The department has started working, and in a short while, its effects will be felt more widely across the nation.

 83.
“According to Olukoyede, the current reorganization is intended to strengthen and realign the EFCC in order to best fulfill its mandate,”

 150.

The National Assembly's proposal to regulate the establishment of Law Schools in the nation has been warned against by the Body of Benchers (BOB).

 151.
When admitting 4, 691 new attorneys at the Call to Bar ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday, BOB Chairman Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) issued the warning.

 152.
“May we beg the National Assembly to cease considering passing laws or amending the Legal Practitioners Act to make way for the proliferation of Law School campuses, particularly around the neighborhoods of some lawmakers?” he asked.

 153.
Establishing new Law School campuses is solely within the authority of the Council of Legal Education, in consultation with the Body of Benchers.

 154.
“While I do not contest the National Assembly's authority to enact laws as necessary, the establishment of Law School campuses is not permitted without the Council of Legal Education's approval.

 155.
“What we need right now is an upgrade and improvement of the current law school campuses, using the recently opened Graham Douglas Law School Campus in Port Harcourt as a model, which was constructed and furnished by the Rivers State Government. I'll venture to say that it's currently the best in the nation, according to Olanipekun.

 156.
He counseled the new lawyers to uphold the ethics of the profession at all times and refrain from actions that might damage the profession's reputation.

 157.
It is my duty at this point to warn you in advance about the impending likelihood of rough rides, jabs, tirades, general vicissitudes, and other contingencies to which all people are vulnerable.

 158.
Regardless of illustriousness or nobility of ancestry, tribal or ethnic affiliation, religious inclinations, affluence eminence, or dexterity, these eventualities are of a universal nature and spare no one. Of course, your faithfulness is a working illustration.

 159.
“Three adjectives that define our profession are noble, honorable, and learned. In your endeavors, understanding, and interactions with others, aspire to these guiding principles.

 160.
Do not engage in conflict, blackmail, mudslinging, a defamation campaign, treachery, or any other attempt to tear someone down, said Olanipekun.

 161.
He urged senior lawyers to improve the welfare of junior lawyers and spoke of plans to mentor new lawyers nationwide through a mentoring committee of the BOB headed by J. K. Gadzama (SAN).

 162.
Olanipekun urged judges to be lenient with young lawyers, saying: “To our noble judges, before whom these young ones will start appearing, please be patient with them and exercise your awesome owners to commit for sparingly.”

 163.
Dwelling on the activities of the BOB, Olanipekun noted that the body is not an appendage of the Federal Government, or any government, institution or agency, howsoever.

 164.
He added: “It is an independent and autonomous body, and its meetings, affairs and decisions are not influenced by any power or authority whatsoever.”

 165.
Olanipekun noted that although the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), the body responsible for the discipline of lawyers, is a committee of the BoB, the LPDC is a juristic personality on its own, independent of the BOB and is not controlled in any way or manner by either the body or its chairman.

 166.
He cautioned: “Proceedings before the LPDC should not be politicized, sensationalized, publicized and advertised in advance or while the proceedings are ongoing by complainants for whatever reason howsoever, as so doing, negates the principle of fair hearing, which all lawyers subscribe to.”

 167.
Earlier, the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Chiroma (SAN) disclosed that the new lawyers successfully completed the vocational training at the Nigerian Law School as prescribed by the Legal Education Act of 1962.

 168.
Chiroma disclosed that the new lawyers are those who emerged successful at the August/September 2022 Bar Final Examination. He said out of a total of 5,802 students who participated in the exams, 4691 emerged successful representing 80.81%.

 169.
A breakdown of the results showed that 119 students came out with 1st Class; 789 with 2nd Class Upper; 2, 460, 2nd Class Lower; and 1, 323 came out with Pass, while students were from the last exam.

 170.
Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Bar Association ((NBA), Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), who has recently been critical of the BOB Chairman, was absent at the event.

 189.

A bench warrant has been issued by the Lagos State High Court, located in Ikeja, Lagos, for the arrest of businessman Cletus Ibeto, who neglected to show up for his arraignment for an alleged N4.8 billion fraud.

 190.
Justice I.O. Ijelu granted the warrant on Friday, according to a statement from Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

 191.
Following an application and appeal by his attorney, Onyechi Ikpeazu, the judge postponed Ibeto's arraignment alongside Ibeto Energy Development Company and Odoh Holdings until November 3, 2023. The 10-count charges against Ibeto include obtaining by false pretenses, fraudulent conversion of property, criminal breach of trust, forgery, and deception.

 192.
In his request for an adjournment, Mr. Ikpeazu stated to the court, “The law is not a respecter of any person.” I really believe that, given enough time, this is a problem that can be solved.

 193.
The defense attorney further informed the court that he did not have a medical report to support the defendant's absence from the proceedings and that the matter in question was one that the complainant and the defendants could settle.

 194.
While plea bargaining is recommended in criminal cases as well, prosecution attorney Rotimi Jacobs responded by saying that although the EFCC had given them the chance to settle their issues, they had not taken advantage of it—not even before charges were filed.

 195.
He declared, “Before the court will assume jurisdiction to do anything, there should be an arraignment.”

 216.
The aftermath of Nigeria's exit from the 2018 World Cup and their loss to Ghana in the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs, according to former Al-Hilal striker Odion Ighalo, were two of his worst experiences.
217. After the Super Eagles won bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he also earned the tournament's Golden Boot, Ighalo announced his retirement from international football.

 218.
The 34-year-old, however, wasted a few opportunities against Argentina in their last group game at the 2018 World Cup, which led to their elimination.

 219.
He was, regrettably, the target of the wrath of Nigerian fans who chose to harass him for weeks after the Super Eagles were defeated.

 220.
Ighalo also had a role in the Eagles' failure to advance to the 2022 World Cup following their 1-1 tie with Ghana in Abuja.

 221.
Ighalo admitted to Elegbete TV, “The two worst experiences I had with the Super Eagles were the match against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup, where I missed a chance and the entire nation of Nigeria wanted to bury me alive.

 222.
Another difficult period for me was the most recent World Cup, which we did not qualify for.

 243.
As part of a retreat, he is going to spend four days alone in total darkness after agreeing to pay £2,000 for the privilege. This unorthodox method of retreating is embraced by many sportsmen, especially prominent figures in the world of sports, as a sort of meditation since it enables them to be alone with their thoughts and reflect on them in peace.

 244.
Before going on the retreat, Joshua published a post on Instagram in which he stated, “Myself and [my friend] are about to embrace the darkness and solitude for four days (separate rooms).”

 245.
“Isolated, with nothing to do other than relax and clear the mind while being immersed in infinite darkness,” says the description of the experience. On Friday, he will make his appearance.

 246.
The 34-year-old patient has been given food by having it brought into the room by other people, but there has been no other human interaction or light this entire week.

 247.
NFL player Aaron Rodgers, who participated in a similar expedition, spoke about his experience in March, saying, “It was a great reset for me, for both my body and my mind.” The excursion lasted for four days. Rodgers, who is 39 years old, is a member of the Green Bay Packers. “Perhaps just a tad bit longer than what I required. I remember that by the time I reached the fourth day, I was thinking to myself, “Okay, it's time for me to get out of here.”

 267.

The Invisible Challenge on the short-form video hosting platform TokTok could be harmful, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission's Computer Security Incident Response Team (NCC-CSIRT), which revealed that it exposes devices to information-stealing malware.

 268.
According to a NCC-CSIRT advisory, threat actors have used the Invisible Challenge, a popular TikTok challenge, to spread the WASP (or W4SP stealer) malware, which steals information.

 269.
The WASP stealer is persistent malware hosted on Discord that its creator claims is undetectable and has a high probability of causing critical damage.

 270.
According to the warning, “The Invisible Challenge entails surrounding a presumedly naked person with a body contouring filter that is partly translucent. Attackers are posting videos to TikTok that contain a link to a piece of software they claim can undo the effects of the filter.

 271.
“The WASP stealer is spread to anyone who click on the URL and try to download the program known as “unfilter.” Over a million views on suspended accounts were accumulated after the videos were first posted with a link. The “Space Unfilter” Discord server can be reached by clicking the link. It once had 32,000 users, but its creators have since deleted it.

 272.
The malware will be able to gather keystrokes, screenshots, network activity, and other data from devices where it is installed if the installation is successful. Additionally, it might stealthily keep track of user activity and gather Personally Identifiable Information (PII), such as usernames and passwords, keystrokes from emails and chat applications, websites visited, and financial activity. This malware may have the ability to secretly take screenshots, record videos, or turn on any attached camera or microphone, according to the statement.

 273.
According to the Team, avoiding clicking on suspicious links, using anti-malware software on your devices, checking the app tray and removing any apps you do not recall installing or that are inactive, and adopting good password hygiene practices like using a password manager are some ways to thwart such an attack.

 274.
The NCC established the CSIRT as the telecom industry's cyber security incident center to focus on incidents that may have an impact on telecom users and the general public.

 275.
The Federal Government established the Nigerian Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) to reduce the frequency of future computer risk incidents by preparing, safeguarding, and securing Nigerian cyberspace to prevent attacks, problems, or related events. The CSIRT also collaborates with ngCERT.

 295.
Remember that Germany recently lost in the group stages of this year's World Cup after finishing third in Group E, behind leaders Japan and second-place Spain.

 296.
At his post-match press conference following Argentina's 2-1 victory over Australia in the round of 16 over the weekend, Messi commented on the development.

 297.
They being gone surprised me, said Messi.

 298.
“They [Germany] had a young team that is consistently among the best in a World Cup, and they had a lot of top players.

 299.
“It is unexpected that they were eliminated once more in the first round, but it just goes to show how challenging the World Cup is.

 300.
“What you see on the field now matters more than the name of the national team. Every aspect of life is becoming increasingly equal.
