ITIL is the main ITSM framework in use globally and provides a range of ITSM professional qualifications including the popular ITIL Foundation.

  60.
ITIL began in the 1980s to address the widespread poor delivery of IT services. In response the UK government requested a framework to enable a more efficient and financially responsible use of IT within the government and private sectors.

  61.
ITIL has become extremely successful in guiding organizations to manage their IT infrastructure. By doing so, it enables organizations to become more competitive by helping them deliver business benefits and achieve better returns on investment.

  62.
Since the 1990’s, ITIL has undergone 4 major revisions. ITIL v4 is the latest version and was released in 2018.

  63.
ITIL v3 version incorporated a lifecycle approach to IT service management which we shall describe below.

  181.

You are probably reading this article because you are considering taking your ITIL Foundation online.

  182.
Continue to read to find out why studying for your ITIL Foundation online is the most cost effective, efficient and effective way to get qualified. It is ideal for anyone considering taking ITIL Foundation training.

  183.
1. Value for money

  184.
A quick compare of the prices for a classroom ITIL Foundation course and an online ITIL Foundation course one thing is obvious – ITIL online training is always cheaper!

  185.
For some ITIL training providers, their low price is because their online ITIL Foundation courses are produced cheaply with less effort. Often, they just show a video of a boring trainer speaking directly into the camera. You will find this type of cheap ITIL online training on sites such as Udemy.

  186.
Despite its low price compared with a classroom ITIL course, our online ITIL Foundation training is cheaper because we don’t need to rent a training venue nor pay for an ITIL trainer. With online ITIL Foundation training, you’re just pay for the online ITIL content, and official ITIL Foundation exam from AXELOS.

  187.
2. Easily fits your busy schedule

  188.
The average ITIL Foundation course lasts for 3 days. This makes a classroom course all but impossible for some students – for example if you can’t take time off work or if you have other commitments, such as childcare. Online ITIL Foundation training gives you much more flexibility.

  189.
With our ITIL Foundation online training, you can choose to study whenever you want and take the ITIL exam whenever you are ready. For busy people without the time to take a classroom ITIL course, this is a huge benefit.

  190.
3. Learn from anywhere

  191.
Online ITIL Foundation training enables you to study and take your ITIL exam at home, no matter where you are. In fact, you could even do it sitting by the beach sipping your Margarita! You just need a computer with an internet connection!

  192.
An online ITIL Foundation course though gives you not only convenient – it also saves you money because you don’t have to pay for travel or hotel fees.

  193.
4. Suitable for all learners

  194.
On a classroom course, a trainer might go at a pace that is either too fast or too slow for some students. There might be other hurdles, such as a student being disruptive or asking too many questions. This can affect the pace of learning for other students in the group.

  195.
Because an online ITIL course enables you to learn at your own pace, it is ideal for all students, irrespective of the speed at which they learn. It is also ideal for people who prefer to learn in the comfort of their own home.

  196.
The interactive nature of our ITIL Foundation online course also makes it great for visual learners too! You will experience sample ITIL exams, online support from an ITIL trainer and plenty of activities to keep you stimulated.

  197.
5. Available on all platforms

  198.
Our online ITIL Foundation course works on your Windows or Mac computer, your tablet and smartphone too, meaning you can learn on-the-go.

  199.
It is built with the latest web and learning technologies. It doesn’t require any browser plug-ins or downloads.

  200.
This means you can choose the platform to learn on.

  201.
6. Longer-lasting learning

  202.
Our online ITIL Foundation course has been designed by experienced instructional designers working alongside subject matter experts to develop courseware which is highly interactive. It isn’t just a boring man speaking into a camera.

  203.
It will engage you and stimulate your brain which has the benefit of leading to faster and longer-lasting learning than more traditional methods.

  263.
IT service management (ITSM) describes a strategic approach to design, delivery, management and improving the ways that businesses use information technology (IT). ITSM staff do this by ensuring that technology, people and processes match the business requirements of the organisation.

  264.
The majority of organisations use well-established best-practice ITSM methods such as ITIL to help them achieve these goals.

  265.
ITIL is the most popular ITSM method in the world today, used by companies like Boeing, Sony, IBM, Microsoft and Barclays Bank [1].

  266.
You will see ITIL qualifications as a requirement on most ITSM jobs. The most common ITIL qualification, and the entry-level qualification into an ITSM career is the ITIL Foundation certification.

  272.
Some other roles though tend towards the mainly business aspects. In fact, in 2020, if you want to pursue an ITSM career, you will be at an advantage if you can demonstrate both technical and business skills.

  273.
According to AXELOS, there are varied ITSM roles available for people holding an ITIL certification [2].

  274.
Entry-level roles such as Service Desk Technician and IT Project Support, are starting points for progressing into more senior roles.

  506.
Passing any exam is a challenge and passing the ITIL Foundation exam is no different.

  507.
This infographic contains 6 steps for you prepare you to pass your ITIL Foundation exam.

  508.
1. Do you research about ITIL

  509.
Ensure ITIL is the right qualifications for you. There are other IT Service Management qualifications you might have considered. Are you sure that ITIL Foundation is the best for you?

  510.
Don’t just take our word for it, but whilst ITIL is the world’s most popular IT Service Management framework, you should probably check this yourself. A good place to start would be the AXELOS ITIL page which has lots of useful information about ITIL.

  511.
2. Register for your ITIL Foundation course

  512.
Before you register for an ITIL Foundation course, you should read up about what makes a good provider. Although this article is about PRINCE2, the same things apply when it comes to choosing an ITIL training provider.

  513.
As part of choosing your ITIL course you must also decide whether you want to study ITIL Foundation online or take a standard ITIL Foundation course in a classroom. Choose an online course if you prefer to learn by self-studying or take a classroom course if you prefer face to fact learning from an experienced ITIL trainer.

  514.
Every ITIL training company has its own procedures for registering for a course. Make sure you don’t register and hand over money for a non-accredited training provider though. These companies cannot provide you with an exam and because they aren’t accredited by PeopleCert (the ITIL EI, or Exam Institute) there is no guarantee of their quality.

  515.
3. Visualize ITIL in your organization

  516.
One thing that usually helps students learn ITIL is to visualize how ITIL could work inside their own organization. By visualizing ITIL in this way, it helps their brain make sense of all the different elements. It brings clarity to the complexity of ITIL. I recommend this to any student of ITIL.

  517.
4. Revise for your ITIL Foundation exam

  518.
It goes without saying really, that to pass your ITIL Foundation exam you must revise. Unless you have a photographic memory, you will need to do your preparation before a course, do your homework during the course, and revise after your course.

  519.
5. Try sample ITIL Foundation exams

  520.
One of the best ways of preparing for your ITIL Foundation exam is to try some sample papers. As part of an accredited ITIL course, you will get an official ITIL Foundation sample exam paper from AXELOS. You can try this as many times as you want.

  521.
6. Book your ITIL Foundation exam only when you are ready

  522.
Some ITIL training providers allow you to book your ITIL Foundation exam only when you are ready. Knowledge Train does this if you buy the ITIL Foundation online course. You even have 12 months to complete the training and take your exam.

  523.
There are some more tips we could have given you including getting a good night’s sleep before your exam, and drink lots of water during the exam.

  524.
In any case, we hope you will make use of these tips. To help others learn these helpful tips to pass their ITIL Foundation exam, please share this article and infographic on your blog and social media.

  525.
And, more important of all, good luck in your ITIL Foundation exam.

  842.
ITIL is the most popular ITSM framework used today.
ITIL was first used in the 1980s. It was established as a solution to the poor provision of IT services. At the time, the UK government required a more efficient and financially responsible ITSM framework that could be used in the public and private sectors.

  843.
ITIL was used by both government agencies and large corporations in the 1990s especially in Europe. Since then, ITIL has been revised 3 times to reflect modern developments in ITSM.

  844.
ITIL v3 was released in 2011. V3 consisted of 5 core volumes, each covering one of the ITSM life cycle stages. ITIL v4, the latest revision was released in 2019.

  845.
AXELOS

  846.
In 2013 AXELOS, a joint venture between Capita and the UK Cabinet Office, became the owner of ITIL.

  847.
AXELOS delegates the management of ITIL examinations and training organizations to PeopleCert, the sole ITIL exam institute. AXELOS also manages updates to the ITIL framework.

  848.
Organizations wanting to implement ITIL internally may do so without needing a license from AXELOS. ITIL certifications are only available to individuals, not organizations.

  983.
Continual improvement
  984.
Within ITIL SVS there are 3 levels of continual improvement. These are:

  985.

  986.
ITIL continual improvement model (comes from the previous versions of ITIL).

  987.
The improved service value chain activity. And

  989.

  990.

  991.

  992.
B. Four dimensions model

  993.
The 4 dimensions model reflects the former ‘4 P’s of ITIL – people, products, partners, and processes.

  994.
Each component of the SVS should consider these 4 dimensions. The 4 dimensions are:

  995.

  996.
Organizations and people
997. Every person must have a clear understanding of their contribution to the SVS. The organization requires a formal structure, define its culture and fit together the capacities and competences of its people.

  998.
Information and technology products
  999.
This is the information managed as part of a service and the processes required to protect, manage and archive it. Technology is the main driver of benefits within service management.

  1000.
Technology may involve artificial intelligence and machine learning, mobile platforms, cloud technology, collaboration tools, automated testing, and operations.

  1001.
It may also include continuous integration, development and deployment solutions.

  1003.
Partners and suppliers
1004. All service providers create their own value through the provision of those services. When taking decisions about the use of providers, organizations must consider their own strategies, corporate culture, resource availability, cost, subject matter expertise, constraints, and demand patterns.

  1005.
Value streams and processes
  1006.
Value streams are a sequence of steps that create value from products or services. Every product or service within an organization defines its value stream.

  1007.
Processes, which transform inputs into outputs, underpin the value streams. There are political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental (PESTLE) factors that influence service providers.
