40.

When we first met General Grievous 20 years ago this month in Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars microseries, it gave him an immediate, chilling presence. But then Revenge of the Sith, and with it the Clone Wars 3DCG series, constrained what could be done with the character. Grievous took on the air of a Saturday morning cartoon villain—twirling lightsabers rather than mustaches. Tales of the Empire is keeping the twirling lightsabers, but it might just bring back a little of that original menace, too.

 41.
Why is the Dancing Baby an NFT?

 42.
Today Lucasfilm released the first clip from the upcoming anthology series Tales of the Empire—its spiritual successor to Tales of the Jedi, this time focusing on stories of the Dark Side, including the life of Morgan Elsbeth before she joined Thrawn’s service, and whatever happened to Barriss Offee after her radicalization against the Jedi’s role in the Clone War. Leaning on the Morgan side of things, the clip sees Tales’ own riff on a particular moment from the 3D Clone Wars series—the season four episode, “Massacre,” when as part of an act of vengeance by Count Dooku, Grievous and an army of Battle Droids launch a devastating assault on Dathomir to try and wipe out Asajj Ventress and her Nightsister comrades.

 43.
Tales of the Empire | ‘Stay Back’ Official Clip

 44.
The clip is brief, but very fun—if Star Wars is to insist on returning to stories of Clone Wars as it so often is these days, at the very least being able to do so in animation, with the lessons and experiences learned since it came to an end in place, is nice. Getting to see this moment first glimpsed 12 years ago with modern visuals and style is great! But it’s also because, given free reign to act here as the catalyst for Morgan’s traumatic past, Grievous just gets to be unleashed as pure, sinister id.

 45.
Going up against Obi-Wan or other Jedi in Clone Wars—never Anakin, of course, because the two were not allowed to actually meet until Revenge of the Sith—Grievous was most often doomed to be a bit of a jobber. He had his moments here and there, sure (the early season one episode “Lair of Grievous” is always worth shouting out), but in Clone Wars Grievous was usually far from the charismatically petrifying agent of death he was when he first stomped into animated canon in the 2D series. It might only be for a brief while, but at least Tales of the Empire looks like it’s bringing at least a little bit of that edge back.

 46.
Tales of the Empire begins streaming on Disney+ May 4.

 72.
No one likes losing money or time, and SafeOpt is here to help with that. Thousands of brands, from clothing to electronics to food to home goods and so much more, all getting discounts, all offers sent to you, and if that does not sound convincing enough already, the whole thing is absolutely free of charge. Well, what is it? It is called SafeOpt, a free service that sends you verified offers from literally thousands of different brands, helping you save money and time, working with all kinds of online stores while making sure to protect your data the whole time, giving you control over your own information, so there are no reasons not to get it. If you are still not completely convinced, well, read on and maybe you shall change your mind.
 73.

 74.

 75.

 76.
How does it Work?

 77.
The first question you probably have is how SafeOpt even works. Well, first of all, if you want to sign up for SafeOpt by AddShoppers, you are going to head to their website and enter your email, just like you would for any other service. Then, their technology notes what device you are using, be it a smartphone, laptop, tablet, and so on, and generates an anonymous secured ID just for you, so when one of their brand partners, who also has their technology installed on SafeOpt, sees your used device, they can show your personal ID offers and promotions that are generally not even available to the broader public. You no longer have to go on the hunt for promo codes that are expired anyway, trying to get a new razor that is just outside your comfort zone when it comes to the price. Instead, you get a smooth shopping experience where all the offers are delivered directly to you.

 78.

 79.

 80.
Data Privacy

 81.
With so many participating brands, a valid concern you may have is data privacy, whether SafeOpt shares your email address or other personal data with its huge network of brands. Well, you have nothing to worry about, as the highest standards of privacy are the priority, and when you receive emails from this service, they are sent directly from SafeOpt, with offers, promotions, and discounts from many premium brands, based on and built with your shopping history and interests in mind, personalized for you. SafeOpt ensures that your email address and any other confidential data remain safe and secure inside their system, undisclosed to any third parties.

 82.
No Installations

 83.
Most of us really dislike having dozens of extensions and apps installed onto our browsers; other than ad blockers, we prefer keeping everything fast, snappy, and clean of bloat. What about SafeOpt? Do you really want to install it, head to ten different links, wait for it to download, and so on and so forth? No? You are in luck because there is absolutely no need to do so anyway. SafeOpt does not have any browser plugins or apps that need to be installed, all you have to do is enter your email, click a few buttons, and continue shopping online as you normally do. It literally does not get any easier or more convenient than that. This will be especially advantageous if you are on a gaming laptop or PC where browsers already eat a lot of performance, and a bunch of extensions and bells and whistles do not exactly help speed up your PC either.

 84.
Businesses

 85.
SafeOpt is not only a fantastic opportunity for the consumer but also for the perhaps not-so-large business enterprise. Many e-commerce companies have also come on board and are very satisfied with the developments. SafeOpts retargeting solutions are designed to help businesses reach more people, get more attention, and generate more revenue for users who visited a particular product or the website of a brand but left again without buying anything or leaving their email. SafeOpt sees what they have been interested in and sends them any offers or the like the brand has, bringing them back to the website once they want to make a purchase. Everyone is a winner, and high-level service and support are always the priority.
 86.

 87.

 88.

 89.
Online Shopping

 90.
SafeOpt is obviously for online shopping, and for most men, that is already an incredible convenience, as most really dislike having to physically go shopping and walk from store to store, browsing the shelves and hangers and whatnot. Online shopping was almost a blessing for many, many men, who no longer had to spend hours wandering around like lost souls, but could quickly click from tab to tab, select what they liked, and purchase it, all from the comfort of their chair or couch. Now, of course, with clothes, it is a bit tricky as it is best to try clothes on first before buying them, to see if the size fits, or whether the cut looks good and so on, but even for that, there are solutions nowadays. Being able to buy pretty much anything you want all from your device is a luxury of the modern world, and SafeOpt only enhances that ease and comfort by directly sending you offers, sales, and promotions without you having to do anything, except shop like you normally would. You can even get notified of products that are not completely available yet, making you an “early-access” tester if you will.

 91.
Variety

 92.
Not only does SafeOpt help you get things you already wanted and that is it, but it also tracks and takes note of what you have already shopped for or what you are interested in and then sends you products or brands that you may not even know exist, and yet be the perfect thing for you, opening a huge range of brands for you to discover for yourself.

 93.
If you spend any amount of time shopping online, then SafeOpt is for you, helping you save time and money while also discovering new brands and products that were found with you in mind. All this is done without revealing your sensitive data or needing to install any browser extensions or the like.

 109.
Mall clothing retailer Express has announced plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and shutter 95 of its 530 stores

 110.

Mall clothing retailer Express has announced plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and shutter 95 of its 530 stores across the U.S. — including seven in New Jersey — as the chain struggles with work-from-home and its own management decisions.

 111.
The trending casual office attire store has struggled to compete with such stores as Zara and H&M, and retail analyst Neil Saunders said Express has seen demand for its products nosedive as more people work from home or work in the office with more casual fashion.

 112.
“The formal and smart casual market for both men and women has softened over recent years,” Saunders said.

 113.
It joins fabric and crafts retailer Joann, which filed for bankruptcy in March.

 114.
Express owns the brands Bonobos and UpWest, and it plans to conduct “business as usual” during the closures, which were expected to start Tuesday.

 115.
Potential acquisition target

 116.
Meanwhile, a group of investors led by the brand management and acquisition company WHP Global — which owns Toys R’ Us — is eyeing a potential purchase of Express, though the plans are not set in stone.

 117.
In the bankruptcy filing, made in the federal court in Delaware, Express said it filed for Chapter 11 protection “to facilitate the sale process.”

 118.
“We are taking an important step that will strengthen our financial position and enable Express to continue advancing our business initiatives,” said Express CEO Stewart Glendinning.

 119.
“WHP has been a strong partner to the company since 2023, and the proposed transaction will provide us additional financial resources, better position the business for profitable growth and maximize value for our stakeholders,” he continued.

 120.
The consortium eyeing the deal includes commercial real estate firms Simon Property Group — which owns The Mall at Short Hills, Rockaway Townsquare and The Shops at Riverside — and Brookfield Properties, which owns Paramus Park and Wayne’s Willowbrook Mall.

 121.
Express said in the bankruptcy filing that it had almost $1.2 billion in total debt compared with its $1.3 billion in assets.

 122.
The overall assortment of Express clothing “is poor in that it is overpriced, lacks differentiation, and comes across as very bland,” said Saunders, the retail analyst.

 123.
“As a result, the Express brand itself has become less relevant to shoppers. In many ways, Express is the archetypal middle-market mass retailer that consumers are increasingly willing to either cut out of the portfolio of stores they visit, or buy less from, as they look to save money,” Saunders said.

 124.
Glendinning admitted in a November earnings call that there were “missteps” in its clothing selection and merchandising strategy, “most notably in women’s” clothing.

 125.
But retail bankruptcies picked up in 2023 — from five in 2022 to 26 in 2023, said the accounting firm BDO, which tracks retail bankruptcies.

 126.
What stores in New Jersey are affected?

 127.
All of Express’ brands are still fulfilling orders and processing returns. Its merchandise policies remain unchanged, and gift cards and store credits are currently being redeemed in stores.

 128.
Of the 25 locations in New Jersey, seven will close, each in a mall:

 129.

 130.
Deptford Mall, Deptford.

 131.
Freehold Raceway Mall, Freehold.

 132.
Garden State Plaza, Paramus.

 133.
Hamilton Mall, Mays Landing.

 134.
Livingston Mall, Livingston.

 154.
Spring weather in Minnesota is crazy and unpredictable, and this year has been over the top. One day it’s sunny

 155.

Spring weather in Minnesota is crazy and unpredictable, and this year has been over the top. One day it’s sunny and 75 then the next day we have a freeze warning! So, I’m really thinking about how wonderful Spring Break in Florida is and that makes me want Key Lime Pie.

 156.
That started me on search for a simple but tasty recipe, and I found it in Martha Stewart’s New Pies and Tarts: 150 Recipes for Old-Fashioned and Modern Favorites: A Baking Book. This recipe for Martha Stewart’s Key Lime Pie was so easy to make, everyone loved it and it made me feel like I was back in Florida soaking up the sun.

 157.
In a world filled with desserts, Martha Stewart’s Key Lime Pie stands out as a timeless classic—a slice of sunshine in every bite. Whether you’re savoring a slice in the balmy breeze of the Florida Keys or indulging in a homemade creation, the essence of Key Lime Pie remains unchanged—a celebration of citrusy goodness that leaves a lasting impression on the palate.

 158.
So, the next time you find yourself craving a taste of something sweet and tangy, why not treat yourself to a slice of Martha Stewart’s Key Lime Pie? Let its vibrant flavors whisk you away to tropical shores, where the sun kisses the sea, and every bite is a moment of pure bliss.

 159.
What is Martha Stewart’s Key Lime Pie?

 160.
Key Lime Pie’s origins can be traced back to the 19th century, in the tropical paradise of the Florida Keys. Legend has it that Bahamian settlers first concocted this dessert using key limes, sweetened condensed milk, and eggs, all conveniently available in the region. The dessert gained popularity in the early 20th century when it became a staple in the culinary landscape of Florida.

 161.
What sets Key Lime Pie apart is its signature ingredient—the key lime. Unlike its more common counterpart, the Persian lime, key limes are smaller, seedier, and pack a punch of tartness. This distinct citrus flavor is what gives Key Lime Pie its unique zing, setting it apart from other desserts.

 270.
It’s no secret that when a mega-star like Taylor Swift announces a concert, tickets sell out quickly.

 271.
This rush creates a perfect storm for scammers to trick eager Swifties.

 272.
Recently, an (annoying!) trend has been seen repeatedly on social media platforms like Facebook, where fans are being targeted by these ticket scams.

 273.
According to Lloyds Bank, some £1 million has been lost to these Taylor Swift scams ahead of the Eras tour. The average amount lost was £332, but it was more than £1,000 in some cases!

 274.
But why do people share these scams, and what happens to their accounts?

 275.
Can people even sell these tickets?

 276.
Here’s what you need to know to prevent being duped.

 277.
Talyor Swift ticket scam

 278.
Here’s an example of what one of the scam messages looks like.

 279.
You may see it pop up in a Facebook Group or in a Facebook Chat, or a friend may share it on their feed or Story.

 280.

 281.
The messages generally say something along the lines of:

 282.
“Hi, I’m selling 4x Taylor Swift Tickets
(Wembley Stadium London) Sat, Jun 22nd • 2024 at 5:00pm.
I’ve Got them available, These are excellent seats and great view to the stage.Anyone interested should send me a direct message, willing to sell them at discount price. Thanks. All 4 located at lower level
123- Row 10 Seats 1-4 seated next to each you,”

 283.
I’ve seen so many more, too! Some say they bought them in a panic, so they are trying to resell them.

 284.
We admin a Facebook Group and see it there quite often.

 285.
A few people have even commented, “How much?” or “Interested”, and are told to DM the poster.

 286.
That’s when the scammer asks for money, gives bank details, and sits back to wait for the money to roll in.

 287.
But there are no tickets, and if you send money, it’ll be lost.

 288.
The scammers hack innocent people’s social media accounts. They may have done this by logging in to the site through a dodgy link.

 289.
Can people resell tickets?

 290.
In the world of concert tickets, reselling can be a legitimate practice.

 291.
However, it’s risky, especially for high-demand events like the sold-out Taylor Swift concerts.

 292.
Scammers advertise tickets they don’t even own, so even if a sale seems legitimate, it could still be a scam.

 293.
For fans looking to buy resale tickets, using reputable platforms offering buyer protection is essential.

 294.
AXS and Ticketmaster run official Taylor Swift ticket resale services.

 295.
Sadly, while ticket prices from re-sellers on those sites might look criminal, at least they exist.

 296.
These platforms verify the tickets and ensure that the buyer’s money is safe until the event has successfully taken place.

 314.
I am an emergency medicine doctor. My job is to save lives. The destruction of the Emergency Medicine Treatment and

 315.

I am an emergency medicine doctor. My job is to save lives. The destruction of the Emergency Medicine Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) would make this job impossible.

 316.
EMTALA, which Congress passed in 1986, ensures doctors like me cannot turn away anyone from the emergency room until we know it is safe to do so. More specifically, it ensures that anyone who visits a hospital receiving Medicare funding is screened and medically stabilized, regardless of their ability to pay.

 317.
Pregnancy complications, such as an ectopic pregnancy or a septic miscarriage, can be life threatening. They may require procedures (like dilation and evacuation, or D&E) or medication that anti-choice groups claim should be illegal. States with increasingly restrictive abortion laws have been battling over what can and cannot be done without violating EMTALA. If the pregnant person’s life is at risk, providers are legally obligated to perform these procedures to stabilize them.

 318.
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments today for the case in Idaho that argues that these life-saving procedures are only necessary when a pregnant person is on the edge of death—and not before. In the ER, we know stabilizing treatment includes abortion. Idaho wants to argue it does not.

 319.
Without EMTALA, patients lives are at risk

 320.
I work in Illinois, which has statewide legal protections for abortion care. Our neighboring states of Indiana and Wisconsin do not. Indiana, in fact, has some of the most restrictive abortion laws. I have treated too many patients who live in Indiana and have had to cross state lines to get the basic care they need. Many of these pregnant people experience miscarriages while traveling. Many pregnant people in Idaho or other restrictive states do not have the luxury of proximity to safe care. They are at risk.

 321.
Meeting with ER colleagues from states such as Idaho has shown that ER providers have been running uphill since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. The laws dictating what we can and cannot do to help our patients seem to change daily. Every legal challenge of new laws makes our place in this changed world even more confusing. But EMTALA made sure we could count on providers to do the right thing, which is to save the lives of our patients in danger. We meet so we can plan—what can they do? What is legal right now? What training can we give fellow ER providers to help their patients in crisis?

 322.
OB-GYNs are already fleeing states with increasingly restrictive abortion laws. This terrifies me.

 323.
Simply put, pregnancy can be dangerous. In the ER, we are trained to recognize and treat life-threatening pregnancy-related emergencies. We stabilize so an OB-GYN can perform procedures or give medication necessary to save lives. I have resuscitated too many women whose hearts have stopped beating because they were bleeding so much internally from ectopic pregnancies. I have watched as a young woman hemorrhaged from an active miscarriage that could only be saved in an operating room, keeping her alive until the specialist could arrive.

 324.
The abortion ban in question in Idaho currently allows for exemptions for ectopic pregnancies. However, if EMTALA is no longer valid in these cases, our patients are no longer protected. The case claims that abortion care can only be performed when absolutely necessary—and not a minute before.

 325.
I have treated these cases, and that moment hangs on a knife’s edge. Women can go from stable and bleeding to unstable or dead within minutes. Uninformed anti-choice lawmakers with no medical knowledge are creating these laws. They have not seen what I have seen. Protecting only ectopic pregnancies and ignoring other life-threatening pregnancy risks is short-sighted and, frankly, dangerous.

 326.
We are watching reproductive health care crumble around us, leaving patients stranded and in very real crises. The risk is not only from the lack of access to necessary medical stabilization, but also leaving pregnant people with no one to treat them after.

 327.
EMTALA ruling will have ripple effects

 328.
OB-GYNs are already fleeing states with increasingly restrictive abortion laws. This terrifies me. I will try to stabilize whoever walks in my door, but I’m not a surgeon or a gynecologic specialist. I can’t perform surgery, so I count on those who can. My ER colleagues in Idaho and Texas feel hopeless. What are we doing if we cannot get our patients the care they need?

 329.
This ruling could also have a domino effect on EMTALA’s further destruction—it would change health care for everyone, regardless of the state they live in. EMTALA states that an ER has to evaluate and stabilize anyone who comes in, regardless of ability to pay or citizenship status (among other factors). It is not difficult to imagine hospital systems turning away undocumented immigrants or those without health insurance post-EMTALA. The hospitals I work at are in underserved communities, and many of them struggle with receiving payment from patients who are disenfranchised from medical care. If a hospital is no longer required to stabilize these patients, who is? My hospitals are entrenched in the opioid epidemic, and many patients I see are unhoused and uninsured, brought in for life-threatening overdoses. If they can’t pay and are no longer protected by EMTALA, what happens to them?

 330.
I will be watching the Supreme Court closely as arguments unfold and the justices ultimately issue a decision. I will be hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. In the meantime, I will go to work—both in the hospital and out—to give patients the health care and life-saving treatment they need and deserve.

 350.
During a hearing yesterday regarding trans sports ban bill S.B. 375, transgender teenager Maëlle Jacques delivered a powerful speech that appealed to the humanity of transgender teens, highlighting the harm bills like this do to the transgender community.

 351.
“Joining the male teams wouldn’t even be a choice for me with the bullying and threats I’d receive, let alone the mental anguish I’d go through being forced to be someone I’m not,” said Jacques.

 355.
She emphasized the important role that integration into girls’ sports teams has played throughout her life, especially as someone who came out as trans at a young age.

 358.
“When I began my transition in the sixth grade, my school welcomed me onto the girls’ team,” she said. “This act of being able to be a part of the teams I belong to allowed me to skip through the phase of social ostracization as the other girls accepted me for who I was and welcomed me.”

 359.
She added that the reason she joins girls’ sports isn’t to dominate or impose as a threat, but simply to belong and compete among her peers.

 360.
“I didn’t join sports with the goal of dominating competition or being better than anyone else. No one would go through the bullying and self-hatred of transition purely to win a sport… I joined because it’s something I’m passionate about and enjoy.”

 361.
In response to a question from New Hampshire Representative Stephen Woodcock as to whether she faced complaints from her opposing teams, Jacques said, “Never. All the other teams have been very supportive.”

 362.
“The only problems I’ve received are from outside parties, like media sources and whatnot. I’ve never received anything negative from other teams and coaches and players.”

 363.
Jacques stands strong after facing immense media backlash from the right-wing ecosystem, including multiple angry articles about her inclusion in girls’ sports, as well as facing vitriol from anti-trans advocate and 5th-place swimmer Riley Gaines.

 364.
S.B. 375 was killed in the House Education Committee in a 19-1 vote. However, a similar bill, HB1205, passed the state’s House in March and could still be passed in the state senate. These bills are another instance of the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, a type of bill promoted across the country by anti-trans figures. It originated in Idaho.

 365.
New Hampshire Rep. David Luneau (D) said to PinkNews, “We think [the bill] doesn’t have any place, doesn’t have any business in New Hampshire,” he said. “And frankly, what we heard from almost 40 people yesterday that, hey, these kids just want to play and be part of the team.”

 385.

Last Updated: 4/22/24 | April 22nd, 2024

 386.
Tokyo is one of the most amazing cities in the world. It’s fast-paced, futuristic, and bursting with weird and wonderful activities to keep you busy, including gorgeous shrines, palaces, and temples; hip clubs and bars; and fashionable people and shopping, not to mention beautiful cherry blossoms.

 387.
Tokyo lives up to all the hype. If I could spend months living there, I would.

 388.
You never know what you’ll find here. One second you’ll run into a group of women dressed in pig masks and ’80s dresses and the next you’re in a robot café or a centuries-old temple.

 389.
It’s also one of the biggest cities in the world, home to almost 14 million people (almost 40 million if you count the metropolitan area). Not surprisingly, there are many nooks and crannies to explore in this city that seamlessly weave centuries-old Japanese traditions with modern technology. (So don’t rush your visit. You’re never going to see it all anyway, so don’t try!)

 390.
To help you plan your trip, here is my suggested itinerary based on over seven visits to Tokyo:

 391.
Tokyo Itinerary Highlights

 392.
Day 1: Fish Market, Imperial Palace, Harajuku, & more!

 393.
Day 2: Asakusa, Ueno Park, Sento, & more!

 394.
Day 3: Shinjuku, Shibuya, Quirky Cafes, & more!

 395.
Day 4: Take a Day Trip

 396.
Day 5: Sumo, Samurai, Meguro River, & more!

 399.

(Note: There’s a lot listed for this day. Since you’re likely to wake up super early because of jet lag, you can fit it all in. You might not want to, though. Maybe you need an afternoon nap!)

 400.
Roam the Tsukiji and Toyosu Fish Markets
In 2018, Tokyo’s main fish market moved to Toyosu, which is twice the size of the old one, Tsukiji, making it the largest in the world. While a lot of good restaurants moved too (Sushi Dai being the most famous), I find the place itself very stale, since you can no longer wander the floor (you look down via a walkway above; you also need a visitor’s pass to enter).

 401.
The old outer market in Tsukiji is still great though, and you can still find food and stores there too. You can wander alone and just eat and shop until you can’t anymore! Most businesses open at 6am, so it’s a perfect place to go in the morning when you wake up early because of jet lag. Food and drink tours of the Tsukiji Outer Market are available for around 13,500 JPY.

 402.
Tsukiji Fish Market: 5 Chome-2-1 Tsukiji, Chuo, +81 3-3542-1111. Admission is free. Toyosu Fish Market: 6 Chome-6-2 Toyosu, Koto, +81 3-3520-8205. Open Monday-Saturday 5am-5pm, though most businesses don’t open until 7am. Admission is free.

 403.
Immerse yourself at teamLab Planets
This really fun and quirky digital art installation is a multisensory and immersive experience in which you become part of the artwork, walking barefoot through the four exhibition spaces and gardens as you interact with the installations. It takes an hour or so to go through. teamLab is quite popular and generally sells out at least a few days in advance, so I recommend getting your tickets online ahead of time.

 404.
6 Chome-1-16 Toyosu, Koto City, teamlab.art/e/planets. Open Monday-Sunday 9am-10pm; last entry is one hour before closing. Admission is 3,800 JPY for adults during weekdays and 4,200 JPY on weekends. Discounts are available for children and those with disabilities.

 405.
Admire the Imperial Palace
When the emperor moved from Kyoto to Tokyo in 1869, he took Edo for his new residence and renamed it Tokyo. Though you can’t go inside (or get very close), the building is amazing. It is surrounded by lovely grounds and a park, and there’s a moat around the stone walls. You can also see the changing of the guard, though it’s a relatively low-key and unassuming ceremony. Tokyo Localized offers a free walking tour of the gardens that is worth taking and lasts 2.5 hours. Admission to the grounds is free.

 406.
Feast below the Girders
Not far from the palace is the Yurakucho neighborhood. Below the elevated train tracks at Yurakucho Station is a 700-meter stretch of wine bars, beer pubs, and casual restaurants filled with businessmen. It’s a good spot for lunch, though it gets the most busy after work, when people stop in for food and happy hour on their way home.

 407.
Scale the Tokyo Tower
Built in 1957 and resembling the Eiffel Tower, the Tokyo Tower is taller (at 333 meters/1,092 feet) than its European version and made entirely of steel. It was the city’s tallest structure until the “Skytree” was built in 2010. You can pay to go all the way to the top floor to take in the view, but frankly, the main observation deck offers one that’s just as good.

 408.
4 Chome-2-8 Shibakoen, Minato, +81 3-3433-5111, tokyotower.co.jp. Open daily 9am-11pm. Admission is 1,200 JPY.

 409.
Relax at Meiji Jingu
Located at the northern end of Yoyogi Park, Meiji Jingu is a peaceful Shinto shrine honoring Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, who helped modernize Japan. It’s nestled in a serene forest, with a big wooden gate marking the entrance and paths lined with trees. You really don’t feel like you’re in one of the busiest, most densely populated cities in the world when you wander around here. Watch traditional ceremonies, stroll through the gardens, or check out the museum. (FYI: It gets really busy on the weekends.)

 410.
1-1 Yoyogikamizonocho, Shibuya City, +81 3-3379-5511, meijijingu.or.jp. Open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset. Admission is free.

 411.
Enjoy Yoyogi Park
One of Tokyo’s largest parks, Yoyogi is laced with walking paths, forested areas, and ponds. It is also used for music events and festivals throughout the year, and you’ll see many street performers and shops selling snacks. If you’re visiting in late March or early April, you’ll be able to catch the cherry blossoms. In the fall, the ginkgo forest takes on a beautiful golden color.

 412.
2-1 Yoyogikamizonocho, Shibuya City, +81 3-3469-6081, tokyo-park.or.jp/park/yoyogi. Open 24 hours, though some facilities have shorter opening times. Admission is free.

 413.
Get trendy in Harajuku
Harajuku is one of the most iconic districts in Tokyo. It’s renowned for its avant-garde take on fashion, it’s the epicenter of anime and kawaii (cuteness) culture in Tokyo, with lots of quirky and vintage-clothing stores and street art. Walking around the area, you’ll see all kinds of outfits, mostly worn by younger Japanese people (predominantly teenagers), making it a fun place to people-watch and window-shop. If you want to go shopping, this is one of the best areas to do it in. you’ll find a lot of the best Japanese designers here.

 414.
Dine with ninjas
For a unique dining experience, head to Ninja Tokyo (formerly Ninja Akasaka), a ninja-themed restaurant designed like an Edo-era building, with wait staff clothed in stereotypical all-black garb and trained in all sorts of tricks and illusions. You’ll order off old scrolls while being entertained by the skills of your server! It’s super fun.

 415.
Tokyu Plaza Akasaka, +81 3-5157-3936, ninja-tokyo.jp. Open daily 5pm-10pm, plus 11:30am-2pm on weekends.

 416.
Drink in Golden Gai
This district, lined with backstreet bars, may be touristy, but it’s one of the most fun in Tokyo. These zigzag alleys are filled with hole-in-the-wall bars serving cheap drinks. Each is unique, so it’s fun to pop in and out of them. It’s very touristy, but you’ll find a lot of Japanese people here too. It’s quite crowded on the weekends, so go early before the bars fill up.

 417.
If you want a deep dive into the area, take a food tour. Arigato Tours runs an evening tour around Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku that will show you around and let you sample the best ramen and yakitori in the area.

 418.
Tokyo Itinerary: Day 2

 419.

Check out Asakusa
If you want to see some of Tokyo’s historic religious sites, spend some time wandering around Asakusa. Just start as early as you can to avoid the crowds (especially if you plan on taking photos). These are two places not to be missed:

 420.

 421.
Senso-ji – Tokyo’s most popular and famous temple is beautifully painted and sits in a scenic spot near a pagoda and the impressive Kaminari Gate. There’s a huge statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, inside the main hall. 2 Chome-3-1 Asakusa, Taito, +81 3-3842-0181, senso-ji.jp. The grounds are open 24/7, though the temple itself is open daily 6am-5pm. Admission is free.

 422.
Asakusa Shrine – Not far from Senso-ji is this Shinto shrine, built during the Edo period and which survived the air raids of World War II. This is much more peaceful than Senso-ji, with fewer people, whom you’ll be able to see praying, meditating, or performing traditional rituals. 2 Chome-3-1 Asakusa, Taito, +81 3-3844-1575, asakusajinja.jp. Open daily 9am-4:30pm. Admission is free.

 423.

 424.
Explore Ueno Park
Spanning over 133 acres, Ueno Park is a lovely spot to spend the day. Various stalls and vendors sell snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. On weekends, there are usually cultural events or festivals showcasing traditional arts, music, and dance. During cherry blossom season, the park is full of people picnicking and admiring the thousands of trees. The park is also home to some of Tokyo’s best museums:

 425.

 426.
Tokyo National Museum –Established in 1872, this massive museum in the north end of the park houses one of the world’s largest collections of art and artifacts from Asia, particularly Japan. 13-9 Uenokoen, Taito, +81 3-3822-1111, tnm.jp. Open daily 9:30am-5pm (7pm on Fridays and Saturdays). Admission is 1,000 JPY.

 427.
Tosho-gu Shrine – This beautiful 17th-century Shinto shrine with carved gold doors and ornate carvings can also be found in the park. 9-88 Uenokoen, Taito, +81 3-3822-3455, uenotoshogu.com/en. Open daily 9am-5:30pm (4:30pm in winter). Admission is free up to the wall, though to go further inside is 500 JPY. To enter the shrine and peony garden costs 1,600 JPY. There’s also a combo ticket for the shrine and treasure hall for 2,100 JPY.

 428.
National Museum of Nature and Science – Opened in 1871, this museum houses exhibitions on pre-Meiji science. There are over 5,000,000 items in the collection, with 14,000 of them on permanent display. It’s also home to the taxidermied body of the legendary dog Hachiko, the loyal dog who would greet his owner at Shibuya Station on return from his daily commute (more on him later). 7-20 Uenokoen, +81 50-5541-8600, kahaku.go.jp. Open Tuesday-Sunday 9am-5pm. Admission is 630 JPY.
 429.

 430.
National Museum of Western Art – This is one of the only museums in the country to focus on Western art, established in 1959. The collection of almost 5,000 pieces extends from the Renaissance all the way to the 20th century. Expect to see works by masters like Van Gogh, Reubens, Renoir, Monet, Picasso, and many more! 7-7 Uenokoen, +81 3-3828-5131, nmwa.go.jp. Open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30am-5:30pm (8pm on Fridays and Saturdays). Admission is 500 JPY.

 431.

 432.
Browse Akihabara
Akihabara, or “Akiba,” is a bustling district in central Tokyo known for its vibrant electronics, anime, manga, and gaming culture. You’ll find streets full of gadgets, anime merchandise, card games, and collectibles. Stop and play in one of the plethora of video game shops. This area is also where you’ll find the famous maid cafés, where servers dress up as maids and serve you food and drinks. The girls on the street are promoting the more hole-in-the-wall options, which are a lot more culturally fun than the big touristy ones. (They aren’t cheap, though, as you have to buy drinks packages and pay a fee, but it’s kitschy and fun.)

 433.
Bathe in a sento
A sento is a traditional public bathhouse, typically separated by gender. The Japanese are not shy, so you’ll need to be comfortable with nudity! A budget-friendly sento will cost you under 1,000 JPY. Just note that tattoos can be frowned upon and you might be required to cover them up.

 434.
Go go-karting
Want to speed around the streets of Tokyo in a go-kart while wearing a costume? The Monkey Kart company lets you. As long as you have an international driving permit (which you can get if you have a valid driver’s license), you can take part. They’ll snap photos of you in the act too! You can book the experience here.

 435.
Shibuya, 1F, 1 Chome-27-7, +81 3-5309-2639, monkey-kart.com. Open daily 9:30am-9pm. The course will take 75 minutes and costs 16,000 JPY per person. There are multiple locations around the city.

 436.
Tokyo Itinerary: Day 3

 437.

 438.
Stroll through Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
This gorgeous park is over 144 acres and home to some 20,000 trees. Most of the original park was destroyed in World War II during the air raids, but it was rebuilt and reopened in 1949. During spring, it’s one of the best spaces to see cherry blossoms. I love the traditional landscape garden, which has several ponds with bridges and islands. It’s a peaceful little oasis within the hustle and bustle.

 439.
11 Naitomachi, Shinjuku, +81 3-3350-0151, env.go.jp/garden/shinjukugyoen/index.html. Open Tuesday-Sunday 9am-5:30pm. Generally, advance ticket purchase is required, but note that during cherry blossom season, you can’t book tickets in advance. Admission is 500 JPY.

 440.
See Shibuya Crossing
This is quite possibly the busiest and most famous intersection in the world (some 2,500 people cross the street here every two minutes). The area is buzzing at night, with bright lights and frenzied activity — like Times Square on steroids. Make sure to visit the dog statue between Shibuya Station and the intersection (at the Hachiko Exit) — it’s a tribute to Hachiko, the loyal dog who would greet his owner at Shibuya Station on return from his daily commute. This continued until the owner passed away at work in 1925. Hachiko then visited the station daily and waited for his owner until he also passed away nearly a decade later, in 1935.

 441.
Experience a tea ceremony
No visit to Japan is complete without experiencing a traditional tea ceremony. While these are usually long and expensive experiences, there are definitely some budget-friendly options for anyone looking not to break the bank. True Japan runs ceremonies in Tokyo for 9,900 JPY per person; they last 75 minutes. Sakurai Japanese Tea Experience is another good option, located near Shibuya.

 442.
Visit a quirky café
Tokyo has all sorts of amazing, weird, and wonderful cafés: monster cafés, owl cafés, cat cafés, vampire cafés, dog cafés, religious-themed cafés, and much more! If you’re looking for something unusual to do, see what weird and quirky cafés are near you (they’re all around town, so you never have to go far to find one!). Here are some suggestions:

 443.

 444.
Kawaii Monster Café

 445.
Vampire Café

 446.
Christon Café (Christian themed)

 447.
Dog Heart (dog café)

 448.
Mipig Cafe Harajuku (pig café)

 449.
Calico (cat café)

 450.
Harry (hedgehog café)

 451.
Ninja Cafe & Bar (ninja themed)

 452.

 453.
Enjoy traditional Japanese theater
Kabuki is a traditional form of theater involving dance and drama. The costumes and makeup are heavily stylized, making for a very visual performance. The Kabuki-za, located in Ginza, is the best venue in which to see one of these incredible displays. Just keep in mind that performances are in Japanese.

 454.
4 Chome-12-15 Ginza, +81 3-3545-6800, kabuki-za.co.jp. Performances are held almost daily. Check the website for the most up-to-date schedule. Expect to pay at least 4,000 JPY if you book in advance. You can often arrive the day of and get last-minute tickets for cheaper, however.

 455.
Tokyo Itinerary: Day 4

 456.

Time to take a break and head out on a day trip for some non-urban adventures. Here are some suggestions:

 457.
See Daibutsu (the Great Buddha)
Make a day trip to Kamakura, where you can see a 13-meter (42-foot) bronze statue of Buddha. It was initially built in 1252 within a temple, but the structure was washed away — on several occasions — by storms. The statue now sits in the open air, (along with a massive pair of straw sandals that belong to the statue). You can even go inside the statue itself — there isn’t much to see, but it’s still kind of neat to be able to step into a massive statue of that size and importance.

 458.
The journey to Kamakura takes around an hour and is free with a Japan Rail Pass.

 459.
4 Chome-2-28 Hase, Kamakura, +81 467-22-0703, kotoku-in.jp. Open daily 8am-5:30pm (until 5pm during the winter). Admission is 300 JPY.

 460.
Get touristy at Tokyo Disneyland
I’m a sucker for Disney attractions! This is a fun choice for anyone traveling with children, but also for adults who just love amusement parks. Opened in 1983, it has seven themed areas to explore and is the third most visited theme park in the world (18 million each year). It has a lot of the same famous rides you’ll find at Disney World, such as Splash Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, and the nauseating Mad Tea Cup Ride. It’s best to book online in advance.

 461.
1-1 Maihama, Urayasu, +81 45-330-5211, tokyodisneyresort.jp/tdl. Open daily 8am-10pm. Admission is 7,900-10,900 JPY for adults and 6,600-9,000 JPY for children, depending on age.

 462.
Hike Mount Mitake
Located just over an hour from Tokyo is Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, covering 1,250 square kilometers of rolling hills, mountains, and forests. There are plenty of hiking trails, though you can also take a cable car to the top and then hike to the shrine that sits on the peak, some 930 meters (3,050 feet) above sea level. It’s a 30-minute walk to the shrine from the peak or top of the cable car. From there, you can hike for an hour to a small valley with two picturesque waterfalls or continue on to Mount Otake, which is about two hours from the summit of Mount Mitake.

 463.
Behold Mount Fuji
Located just over an hour from Tokyo and standing at an impressive 3,776 meters (12,389 feet), Mount Fuji is one of the most iconic views in the country. It is also an active stratovolcano (it last erupted in 1708) and one of the Three Holy Mountains of Japan. Covered in snow for almost half of the year, it is both a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a UNESCO Cultural Site. In the summer, the mountain is open to hikers, who spend anywhere from 5 to 12 hours reaching the summit. Traditionally, hikers depart at night to arrive at the top for the sunrise.

 464.
If you don’t want to hike to the peak, you can simply visit on a day trip. There are buses that can take you partway up, from which you’ll be offered sweeping vistas of the surrounding area. Guided day tours from the city cost around 12,000 JPY.

 465.
Visit the Ghibli Museum
If you’re a fan of famed director Hayao Miyazaki’s work (which includes films like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke), then you’ll want to check out this amazing exhibition. Designed by Miyazaki himself, it is an immersive experience that any film buff will appreciate. There is also a new short film every month, only available to visitors. The museum won’t take up a whole day, but it’s not in a very central location, so you’ll need to plan accordingly.

 466.
1 Chome-1-83 Shimorenjaku, +81 570-055-777, ghibli-museum.jp. Open Wednesday-Monday 10am-6pm. Admission is 1,000 JPY for adults, with discounts available for youth and children. There are limited tickets available each day, so book in advance.

 467.
Tokyo Itinerary: Day 5

 468.

During your last day in Tokyo, the city is your oyster. There’s still plenty to do. Go shopping, explore new cafés, wander gardens, eat all the food — the possibilities are endless. Some other things I love to do include the following:

 469.
Admire the National Art Center
Opened in 2007, this museum and gallery doesn’t actually have a permanent collection but rather houses a never-ending series of temporary exhibitions, from impressionism to modern art. Check the website to see what is currently being shown.

 470.
7 Chome-22-2 Roppongi, +81 3-5777-8600, nact.jp. Open Wednesday-Monday 10am-6pm and Fridays and Saturdays until 8pm. Admission varies by exhibit.

 471.
Visit the Samurai Museum
No trip to Japan would be complete without learning about samurai. While they were known for their martial skill, there was much more to the culture than just mastering the katana (a traditional sword). The museum has some incredible displays of traditional weapons and armor, some of which you can even try on.

 472.
Kabukicho 2-25-6, +81 3-6457-6411, samuraimuseum.jp/en. Open daily 10:30am-9pm. Admission is 1,900 JPY. You can explore the museum on your own or in a group tour, which is conducted every 30 minutes. Still temporarily closed due to COVID; check the website for updates.

 473.
Watch a sumo match
Kokugikan, Japan’s most famous sumo arena, hosts tournaments three times each year. The wrestling that we see today dates to the 17th century, though its origins go back even further, and it’s still one of the most popular traditions in the country. If you’re in town at the right time, this is a must-do! Tickets sell out quickly, so act fast. You can book a ticket online here (you’ll be accompanied by a guide too, so you can learn more about the tradition as it unfolds before your eyes).

 474.
1 Chome-3-2-8 Yokoami, Sumida, +81 3-3623-5111, sumo.or.jp/kokugikan. Ticket prices vary, but expect to pay around 3,800 JPY.

 475.
Have drinks at the Park Hyatt
New York Bar is the iconic bar from Sofia Coppola’s 2003 film Lost in Translation. Located on the 52nd floor, it actually lives up to the hype. The atmosphere is classy, the drinks are great, and the view is absolutely stunning. There is live jazz every night, and while there is a cover charge (around 2,750 JPY), it’s definitely worth it!

 476.
3-7-1-2 Nishishinjuku, +81 3-5322-1234, hyatt.com. Open Sunday-Wednesday 5pm-12am and Thursday-Saturday 5pm-1am.

 477.
Peruse the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum
Built in 1933, this small museum used to be the official residence of Prince and Princess Asaka. The prince had studied in Paris and wanted to bring Art Deco to Japan, which explains the building’s style and decorations. In 1983, the residence became a museum and is now home to a rotating series of modern art exhibitions.

 478.
5-21-9 Shirokanedai, +81 3-3443-0201, teien-art-museum.ne.jp/en. Open daily 10am-6pm. Garden admission is 200 JPY; museum admission varies depending on the current exhibition.

 479.
Promenade along the Meguro River
The Meguro River weaves almost 8 kilometers (5 miles) through Tokyo and makes for a magnificent stroll. There’s a path with a bit of green space that follows the water, so plenty of locals walk or exercise there. In the spring, you’ll be able to see a lot of cherry blossoms too. There’s also plenty of restaurants along the way to stop and eat at!

 480.
Take the Harry Potter studio tour
If you love Harry Potter, this studio tour is a must. Like the original in London, “The Making of Harry Potter” lets you walk in his footsteps and explore his amazing wizarding world. You can wander iconic sets like the Great Hall and Diagon Alley, see original props and costumes from the films, and learn how they were made. There are also sections on the newer Fantastic Beasts films. It takes about 3 hours to see it all. Just make sure to book the earliest spot in the day, as the crowds here can be huge later on. I posted more tips on Instagram if you want to learn more.

 481.
1 Chome-1-7 Kasugacho, +81 50-6862-3676, wbstudiotour.jp. Open daily 8:30am-10pm. Tickets at 6,500 JPY.

 482.
Where to Eat

 483.

Tokyo is so huge and has so many dining options, that it would be impossible to pick just two or three favorites. You can read this blog post that has all my favorite restaurants in Tokyo.

 484.
***

 485.
Tokyo is massive. You could spend a lifetime here and still not discover everything there is to see. 511.
If you’re not yet driving with a dash cam, it might be time to change that. Not only can a dash camera help you grab scenic footage of your drives for your Instagram page, it can also provide some peace-of-mind in the form of video evidence of how you handle certain situations behind the wheel. There are all kinds of dash cams out there at all different price points and in fact, you can see some of our top picks right here, but today we’re featuring a great spring sale from Rove, the maker of the R2-4K dash cam we’ve featured many times in the past. Thanks to the sale, not only is the super popular R2-4K available for 33% off, you can also grab deals on the upgraded R2-4K Pro and the high-end R3 cam, which is actually on sale for a huge $200 off. You can learn more about all 3 deals just below.

 512.

 513.
$198.99 at Amazon

 514.
The Rove R3 is Rove’s top-of-the-line dash cam. It’s a 3-channel cam which means it shoots video from the front (1440p), the back (1080p) and inside the cabin (1080p). The touch screen is a 3-inch IPS display and the cam runs on custom software that is, of course, included and links up with the Rove app on iOS or Android. Firmware updates to the product happen remotely thanks to the always-on built-in dual-band WiFi. In addition to the WiFi, there’s also GPS with live speed alerts, a compass and location stamps. Like many cams, this one offers 24-hour parking monitoring, loop recording, and includes a G-sensor.

 515.
Not so common, though, is the built-in digital image stabilization and the f1.4 lens aperture, basically allowing for more light to be captured in the image. It also has wide dynamic range, H.265 and H.264 video compression tech, four IR LEDs on the inside cam for recording in the dark, time-lapse recording and a screen saver. You’ll need a micro SD memory card with this cam which is, unfortunately, not included, but you can pick one up right here. This cam can handle up to a 512GB memory card. Last but not least, the company offers “100% USA-based customer support, [a] 1-year free warranty, [and a] 30 days money-back guarantee.” Want to see how it looks? One reviewer uploaded their own video capture in their 5-star review of the camera right here.

 516.
Key specs

 517.

 518.
Location: 3-channel cam includes front view, rear view and inside view

 519.
Field of view: 150° wide-angle front camera and 140° wide-angle rear and inside cameras, f1.4 aperture

 520.
Features: Super Night Vision, loop-recording, motion-sensing, 24-hour parking monitoring, GPS

 521.
Input/Output: USB Type-C

 522.
Memory Card: Not included, can support up to 512 GB micro SD

 527.
$119.99 at Amazon

 528.
The R2-4K Pro is Rove’s mid-tier dash cam which offers a lot of the same great functionality as the R3, but at a middle price-point between the R3 and the base R2-4K. This one is a single front-facing camera, so you won’t get the rear and inside views, but it does record in up to 4K resolution at 30 fps or full 1080p HD at up to 60 fps. Like the R3, the R2-4K Pro features built-in dual-band WiFi, loop recording, parking monitoring, night vision, compatibility with the Rove app, over-the-air firmware updates, a G-sensor, built-in GPS and more. Basically, if you don’t need an inside or rear cam, don’t mind a modest step down from the f1.4 aperture, and you have a little extra scratch to spend, this is the one you should take a look at. If you’re interested in the picture, check out this video uploaded by an Amazon reviewer.

 540.
$79.99 at Amazon

 541.
The Rove R2-4K dash cam is Rove’s most affordable option, offering killer resolution at a solid price, but without some of the bells and whistles of the above models. records videos in, you guessed it, 4K resolution. It has features like night vision, built-in WiFi functionality allowing you to instantly manage your recordings on your smart phone, built-in GPS to record your location and speed, parking mode, motion detection, a 150° wide-angle lens, G-sensor tech, loop cycle recording, emergency video lock, time-lapse video, slow-mo video, and it can handle up to a 512GB micro SD card for storage, just like its counterparts. One reviewer shared some of his own footage shot with the camera right here.

 581.
Halle Bailey is powering through a “severe” period of postpartum depressing following the birth of her baby boy, Halo. The 24-year-old Little Mermaid star got candid in a recent Snapchat video about her experience, noting that this has “nothing to do” with her son, whom she shares with boyfriend DDG.

 582.
“I have severe, severe postpartum [depression],” Halle said in the clip last week, according to an Instagram fan account that reshared her post. “And I don’t know if any new moms can relate, but it’s to the point where it’s really bad, and it’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out.”

 583.
The Color Purple actress then pointed out that “feeling normal in [her] own body” has “been hard” for her.

 584.
“I feel like a completely different person when I look in the mirror,” Halle explained. “I just feel like I’m in a whole new body, and I don’t know who I am. … I didn’t realize how serious of a thing it actually was. Now, going through it, it feels like you’re swimming in this ocean that’s, like, the biggest waves you’ve ever felt, and you’re trying not to drown.”

 585.
Despite the difficult physical and mental experience, Halle insisted this “has nothing to do with my baby. It has everything to do with me and who I am right now.”

 586.
Later in the clip, the “Angel” artist pointed out that she wanted to share her story after seeing “hurtful” comments about her online.

 587.
“It’s honestly really crazy to me that people would feel the need to say such hurtful things,” Halle said. “Normally, I’m OK. I’ll see it — and it will hurt my feelings — but I won’t say anything. I just suck it up, swallow my pride and wish that person well. But today, I couldn’t because it grows something in me to bring awareness to. … You never know what somebody else is going through especially someone who just had a baby.”

 588.
In January, Halle announced via Instagram that she had welcomed her first child with DDG. Her social media post confirmed what social media trolls had been speculating for months — that she was pregnant. However, the Chloe x Halle artist chose to reveal the news on her own terms.

 589.
Two months later, Halle delivered a powerful speech at Essence‘s Black Women in Hollywood Awards in March. She took the moment to explain why she didn’t want to “expose” her baby boy to the public eye.

 590.
“There was no way in hell I was going to share the biggest joy of my world with anyone,” she said. “Halo was my gift, is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me or my family to that unyielding spotlight.”
