84.
Hi, there. Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show, where we have grown-up conversations about how to live the life we love, how to navigate when things get tough, and how to make sure we are honoring our birthright to abundance. Today, we’re talking about one of those times when we have to navigate those times when things don’t go according to what you had planned. There are definitely some ways to handle when life throws you a curveball, and I’ll tell you about five of them that work for me.

 85.
One example that comes to mind is the pandemic four years ago. Nobody saw that coming, and it derailed the plans of billions of people. I had just moved to the Bahamas to spend more time with my husband, who was my boyfriend at the time. I moved into a home in the same town, which would allow us to date without the challenges of living in different countries. Forty-two days after I moved here, Covid hit. I was in a different country, away from my family and friends, and had a very brief window of time during which I could choose to fly back to the USA—and believe me, I considered it. I didn’t have a car, not that I could drive anyway, because they drive on the opposite side of the road here. I had to make a decision, because my plans were no longer possible in the way I had imagined.

 86.
Another time I got derailed was when I launched Motivating the Masses over twenty years ago. Back then, it was Motivating the Teen Spirit. And, even though I thought I was going to be inspiring teens to be emotionally healthy, nobody was banging down my door to sign up for my programs. I had to decide if I was going to give up, or change directions. I am so grateful I didn’t just quit, even when I felt like things weren’t working as I had planned. There are so many times I had to change directions, and I know you’ve experienced this, too.

 87.
So, today I am sharing my Top 5 things to do when things don’t go according to your plans.

 88.

 89.
Take a step back and evaluate the entire situation objectively. Take all of the emotion out of it, and look at the facts. By taking the emotions out of it, you can accurately evaluate what went wrong, and why it happened. Then decide how you will do things next time to get a better outcome. Looking at it objectively provides you with invaluable information that you can use moving forward. Each time you can take a look at something from outside of a situation, the easier it will be.

 90.
Pivot and adapt. Look, I know you were counting on things going according to the original plan, but please do not hold onto a sinking ship. You have to be willing to follow a new path when you’re dealt an unexpected hand. Maybe you lost a job or got sick. Maybe a loved one passed away, or you had to relocate for a job. Holding on to the original plan just isn’t going to help you—you’re going to have to let it go, and move in a new direction, even though it’s hard. Oftentimes, this takes you in a better direction, so be open to what presents itself. Don’t let your ego stand in the way of your big pivot.

 91.
Give yourself grace. THIS is a big one—give yourself grace! You are allowed to feel your feelings. Feelings are neither right or wrong, but they are real. Feeling disappointed, frustrated, embarrassed, or ashamed is completely natural, so take a moment. If you’re a leader, you’re going to have breakdowns. If you don’t, you’re not playing full out. So feel your emotions, and then move on. Don’t live there, or you will definitely get stuck. And always know that you are not alone (YANA). We all make mistakes and have challenges. Remember that, move through the emotions, and when you’re ready, move on!

 92.
Call on your tribe. Hey, I know this can be hard, and it took me a while to learn how to do this for myself. You do not have to walk this path alone. The wisest people I know always call on their tribe. If you think you don’t have a community, and that you’re in it alone, then you need to build a community. And remember that you are a part of THIS community. I’d love for you to come to one of my events, either in person or virtually to really connect with this like-minded group of people, and know you are supported.

 93.
Keep moving forward. Don’t get stuck in the quicksand. When you are growing, nothing stays the same—and it’s not supposed to! Eventually, what you’re going through right now will be in the rearview mirror…as long as you are committed to forging ahead. Take a look at what happened, learn from it, and make a new plan. If something similar happens in the future, you can look at it and say, “I’ve seen this before, and I know exactly what to do.” You are building your resiliency muscle as well as your faith muscle. You cannot build these muscles without tackling challenges, because that’s what makes you stronger.

 94.

 95.
I want you to remember that when a plan doesn’t go the way you wanted, you get to find out what you’re made of. You get to realize who you’re becoming, and connect with your convictions. Look at unexpected circumstances as opportunities to learn and grow. As long as you don’t stop trying, you cannot fail.

 96.
I want to remind you that this is not a monologue; it’s a dialogue between you and me, and everyone in this community. I love reading your comments, take-aways, breakthroughs, and a-ha moments. Tell me what you got out of this episode—what pivot do you need to make right now? The next time something doesn’t go according to your plan, which of these tools do you think will help you the most? Leave a comment below, so I know what value you got out of this episode. Believe me when I say that I love you. And I believe in you. I really do. I look forward to seeing you real soon.

 97.
Your Sister in Prosperity and Possibility,

 214.
Hi there! Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show—where we share the tools that we need to live the life that we want, achieve the goals that we set, and have the abundance that’s ours by birthright. You know I love to read your comments, and I love to hear about your #BOL (breakthroughs out loud). And when you tag me with #YANA (you are not alone), I know that we are connecting and feeling the same thing. I love recognizing how we are more alike than we are different, and today, I want to celebrate those things that bring us together by talking about your comments. This is a dialogue, and it’s important for me to hear from you!

 215.
A while back, I had an episode called Balancing Your Mind and Body where I talked about my personal struggles with my own body, and what I did to overcome them. I issued a challenge to do something to love your body in the next 24 hours. So many of you related to this struggle, and shared their own stories with me, and I want to share a few of those today.

 216.
Let’s start with Selena, who wrote, “I’ve been sitting with my body for 27 years and not once have I been in love with it. As I write this, Lisa, I’m in tears because I’m reminded of that little chubby girl who couldn’t wait to be ‘me now,’ because the ‘me now’ was going to be the bomb. But, the ‘me now’ is still the chubby little girl, and in the next 24 hours, the one step I will take is to apologize to every part of me for not loving me, and to thank every part of me for still being here.”

 217.
I want to thank you, Selena. And I want to say, I see you. I love you and I understand exactly where you were when you wrote that, and I want to validate you right where you are now. It’s natural for us to think negatively, because our minds are naturally drawn to seeing what is wrong. We overlook the good and beautiful things about ourselves—our eyes, our smile, or our beautiful skin. I want to invite everyone to take the time to look in the mirror and recognize the parts of you that you love the most. Sit in the power of the positivity you feel when you call out the things that you love about yourself. The more you call out, the more you will find to love.

 218.
Think about all of the things your body allows you to do: make meals for your loved ones, hug your friends and your children, create works of art, and lift and carry things to do your work. If you’re looking in the mirror and wishing that you had fewer wrinkles, stop and think about all of your beautiful life experiences, and how many times you smiled to create those little lines around your eyes and mouth. You have a pretty amazing life, or you are creating one. Be grateful for those little “imperfections.”

 219.
Janelle wrote, “This is FOR ME! I’ve not been listening to my body. I’ve been neglecting my temple. I commit in the next 24 hours to prepare a healthy meal, to create a meal plan, to go shopping for the foods I need to follow the plan that I’m setting, and then give my body a fighting chance to heal itself.” She goes on to say, “Thank God you were brave enough to come on here and speak your truth. Your past is my present, so I’m determined to make my future better by doing what needs to be done to heal and get well.”

 220.
I want to celebrate you, Janelle. I love your honesty and your willingness to recognize that you deserve to take better care of your body, so it can help you to do more amazing things. I want to hear back from you to know how your meal plan went, and if you dropped it, tell me that you’re going to pick it back up. You’ve got this; I truly believe that you will be successful in getting healthy.

 221.
I love this message from Marquita, “This message was for me, and it’s so relatable. I’ve been on a health and wellness journey for years. I was overweight, obese, most of my life. I reached 300 pounds. I’ve been successful with weight release, and became a wellness coach. But then things shifted for me. My body and mind are telling me to rest, so this is what I’ll be doing for the next 24 hours, and I plan to make this my practice going forward.”

 222.
Blessings to you for this message, Marquita. First of all, congratulations on your journey through obesity and weight release, and the mindset that you had to adopt, the decisions you had to make, and the practices that you had to make consistent. I love all of that, and I love the willingness to recognize that too much of a good thing requires a break—we all need to rest! Sometimes, when we accomplish a big goal, we can take it too far because we fear that we will slide back into old habits. I want to celebrate your recognizing that you needed rest. We all need rest! And I love that you coach others to get healthy—what a great way to use your experience to help others!

 223.
I just want to thank every one of you who comments on these episodes. It builds this community and brings us all closer together when we realize that we are never alone in our challenges and victories. Please keep commenting! Tell me about your #BOL (breakthroughs out loud). Ask questions about things you’d like to see on the show. I’d love to feature your question or comment in a future episode. And I want you to remember that I love you, and I believe in you. I can’t wait to see you next time. Be well.

 344.
Hi, and welcome back—it’s great to have you here! As always, I love reading your comments, questions, and breakthroughs, and recently, I came across a comment that I can definitely relate to: “I’m new in the network marketing profession, and my sponsor, who is two years ahead of me, is also new to the business, and I feel like she’s using my ideas without giving me credit.”

 345.
Thank you for that comment. I feel like so many of us can relate to this, so let’s just make it into a general question:

 346.
What do you do when you feel like someone’s using your content without giving you credit?

 347.
First of all, let’s be realistic. There are only so many ways to deliver the same message. In my line of work, there are only so many ways to tell people to stay motivated, be inspired, be transformed…so, of course others are going to be sharing the same words that I share. But it’s important to understand that nobody can deliver it the way you do. If 100 people tell you the same thing, you will hear it 100 different ways, and some will connect with you, while others will not.

 348.
Honestly, when people find my content so effective that they choose to use it for themselves, I take it as a compliment. If others want to share my words, even if they don’t give me credit, it means I have done something really well. I don’t need the credit. I don’t need the validation. Take a look at your own situation, and ask yourself, “Do I need to be given credit or validation?” You might be surprised at what comes up for you.

 349.
So, let’s look at some ways to handle this, because when it comes right down to it, feeling like someone is using your ideas without giving you credit may feel disrespectful. It may feel triggering. Why do you think that is happening? Is it coming from a place of fear? A place of not feeling acknowledged? You need to first understand why it’s bothering you before you can correct it. Here are some tips for moving through this…

 350.
#1 – Talk to the other person.

 351.
Now, I know this is going to feel uncomfortable, but some of the most difficult conversations lead to the most clarity, making the relationship stronger and healthier in the long haul. When having this conversation, it’s important to leave the other person’s dignity intact. If you make them feel like they are wrong, it will only put them on the defensive, which will not solve anything. There doesn’t need to be a “right” person and a “wrong” person – you can have two people who are on two different paths, and that is completely OK. After having the conversation, we move onto the next step…

 352.
#2 – Decide if the partnership is something you want to continue.

 353.
You get to decide if this partnership, friendship, or relationship is something you want to continue. There may be a few different answers to this, with the first being, “Yes, I want to be in it. Let’s make it work.” The second answer might be, “Yes, I want to be in it, but we need to make some adjustments.” What a great opportunity to evaluate what parts of the partnership aren’t working, and make changes to fix those things. And if they can’t be fixed…

 354.
#3 Complete the relationship.

 355.
Yes, I said, “complete” the relationship. It’s not an ending, because both of you will continue on your own paths. It’s not a break up, because neither of you are broken – you are both whole and complete. Just because this relationship is no longer serving you is no reason to feel defeated. It is, however, an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s a great time to evaluate what old wounds are being triggered in you. It’s a chance to see what kinds of expectations were not met, and decide if your expectations were realistic in the first place.

 356.
This is a great opportunity to heal old wounds. It’s a perfect time to figure out why you were triggered by someone using your ideas without crediting you. Why are you hurt, disappointed, or angry? Why do you feel like you’re being dismissed? I would ask you to dig in on this and really figure out where this is coming from. When have you felt like this in the past? What old experience is making you feel that this person is hurting you? It most often has nothing to do with the other person, because they don’t know what your unhealed wounds are. They aren’t trying to cause you to feel this way. You need to heal your old wounds to move forward powerfully, and with strength.

 357.
You need to decide what’s worth fighting for, and what can be left behind. Figure out where you can grow and make the changes inside that will keep this from ever happening again. And if it does happen, will you have the tools to respond differently next time? Decide if this partnership, friendship, or intimate relationship is worth saving. You will feel very differently when you are coming from a healed place than when you feel wounded.

 358.
Remember, this is not a monologue. This is a relationship. A relay between you and me, and between you and the other members of our family. I love reading your comments and questions. I love the beautiful tribe of like-minded community members we have here. So, please share your ah-ha moments, your #BOL (breakthroughs out loud), and your insights. Tell me how you are going to move forward into the healed version of yourself. I truly believe in you, and I love you. I’ll see you soon.

 478.
Hi, there. Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show, where I share the tools that we all need and deserve to bring us into a life of abundance, love, health, wealth, freedom and connection. I love that we all engage with one another in this space – this is a beautiful community where we learn from one another and offer support and encouragement for the journey!

 479.
In this episode, we’re talking about what to do when we feel like fear is all around us. Not only is fear surrounding us, but uncertainty. People do not like to feel uncertain. It’s frustrating and it wears us down, and makes us feel weary. I remember my grandmother telling me, “Sweetheart, tired is one thing. But weary? Weary is another level.” So what can you do when fear is all around you?

 480.
Since 2020, we’ve been in a climate that has a lot of questions. We’re in a climate that has a lot of demands that we didn’t ask for. We’re in a climate that has a lot of requirements. The world seems like it will never be the same as it was, but that may not be a bad thing. So how do we navigate this new way of being in the world?

 481.
I want to share with you my top three tips for dealing with fear, internal and external, because one of the things that I noticed is that fear can be adopted. There are times when I woke up in the morning and I felt no fear. Then, by the time I went to bed that night, I had all kinds of stuff I was worrying about. I didn’t realize that a lot of the worries that I had by the time I went to bed were handed to me through a conversation, through the news, through me watching someone else’s life or journey. This fear wasn’t even mine, but it was keeping me up at night. Isn’t that crazy? So let’s get to those top three tips for dealing with fear.

 482.
Tip #1 – Talk about it.

 483.
Don’t just let that fear eat away at you silently – get it out of your head and talk about it. You will see how quickly it loses its power when you say it out loud. When you start talking about the facts surrounding your fear, rather than just sitting in the emotion, you put yourself in the driver’s seat. We can get so bogged down with everyone else’s emotions and opinions, but in order to quiet the fear, we need logic and facts. Facing your fear head-on, and stepping right into it makes you feel courageous, and it reduces the uncertainty by helping you to understand the fear and where it came from. That’s powerful.

 484.
Be sure to find someone who will talk through your fear logically with you, not someone who is going to feed more fear into you. You know who I’m talking about – talk to your friend who will be able to help you process it in a rational way, not the one who is running through the streets yelling that the sky is falling. Who we share our fear with is important, so choose carefully.

 485.
Tip #2 – Turn your fear into your fuel

 486.
Oh, I have done this so many times. Fear is not a bad thing. We have a relationship with fear as if fear is designed to paralyze us or that fear is designed to stop us, or fear is designed to immobilize us or make us worry. What if, instead of letting fear paralyze us, we allowed it to fuel us? I have done some of the biggest things in my life fueled by fear.

 487.
You don’t have to be courageous when you leap. You just have to have a little courage blended with the fear, turning your fear into your fuel. And how do you do that? You ask yourself, “How can this moment help me?” During the pandemic, when it first all started in 2020, I honestly was afraid that I was going to go back to my old weight. I don’t know if you saw me back then, but if you did, you know I used to be 93 pounds heavier than I am now. For 19 years, I was over 210 pounds, and I was fearful about going back.

 488.
I had just moved here to the Bahamas, and 42 days after moving here, I’m on the beach; I’m relaxing. I’m with the love of my life, and all of a sudden I’m shut down. I’m no longer traveling. I’m no longer moving. I’m no longer on stage. I had a fear. I never wanted that old weight to come back again.

 489.
So, you’d see me in my house doing curls with the broom and resistance bands on the bottom of the broom and me standing on it. You’d see me doing push ups. You’d see me on cinder blocks, pulling up water bottles. This all stemmed from the fear of gaining back the weight. What happened by the end of 2020? I was more toned, more fit, and 12 pounds lighter. I turned my fear into fuel. And you can, too.

 490.
Tip #3 – Remember that this is just a season

 491.
Don’t make a season a lifetime. If you’re going through a difficult moment, a fearful moment, a down moment, then do just that. Go through it. Now, you may have to stop for a moment and catch your breath, but it’s not a red light. It’s just a stop sign. Stop. Catch your breath. Remember, it’s just a season and keep going.

 492.
So many people get stuck here, because they allow their fear to become a way of life. This will make you weary. It will make it hard to move forward. But when you look at your fear as a temporary situation, you don’t allow yourself to stay there forever. It’s just a season.

 493.
Now, I want you to remember that this show is not just a monologue. This show is a delicious, dynamic conversation between adults: real talk – safe space talk. We are gladiators who are ready to shine our light and show up in this world in a big way.

 494.
This is your tribe. I’d love to hear from you. I’d love to hear about your big ah-ha today when you think about the fear or negative energy around you. How do you begin to navigate your journey through fear? You’re here. We’re in this together. We all thought this would be a sprint, just the year of 2020. That’s it. And now we realize it’s a marathon.

 495.
And now, you get to realize that you were built for a marathon. So please comment below. Tell me what you needed to hear. What was that very thing that I came and I delivered to you? 615.
Hi, and welcome back! It’s so good to have you here in this space where we have courageous conversations. This is a place where we grow and expand and we see ourselves in one another. Today, we’re talking about the science of speaking – but I’m not just talking about speaking from a platform. These tools are going to help you deliver a powerful message in all areas of your life: whether you’re a teacher or an attorney; a parent or a student; a professional, an artist, a politician or a musician. No matter what you do, being able to convey a powerful message is important.

 616.
Over the last 20-25 years, I have been blown away by the response to my speaking. And that got me thinking about how I do what I do – the science of speaking. I want to share that with you today – so get your pen and paper out, because you’re going to want to write this down. I have about 17 different techniques, but I’m giving you the two most powerful ones today!

 617.
Technique #1 – Show versus Tell

 618.
What this means is that you want to create an emotional response from your audience. You want them to feel what you were feeling. The way to do this is by first, tell them what you were thinking. Here’s an example:

 619.
“I was at a job interview, and I was sitting in the waiting room. My thoughts were racing. I was thinking about all of the ways I could make a difference in this company. I thought about the impact it would have on me and on my family if I were chosen for this job. My mind was going a mile a minute.”

 620.
Do you see how this lets your audience into your head? You’re giving them the inside scoop, and they can put themselves in this situation, and they know exactly how that feels. Now they are IN your story. The second part of this is to tell them how you were feeling. You might say something like:

 621.
“My heart was beating so fast. Oh, my God, I think I’m actually nervous. I think I’m actually scared, and I haven’t been scared in a long time. I really wanted this job. I really wanted this acceptance. “

 622.
Do you see how I engaged with my head and my heart? In this age of technology and social media, we often miss that connection. In the “Show versus Tell” technique, you are being vulnerable, and your audience will feel connected with those feelings, because they have felt them at some point in their own lives.

 623.
Technique #2 – Audience Connection (Me, We, You)

 624.
In this formula, we are cementing the connection with our audience. You want them to know that you are not speaking at them from a mountaintop. You are not over here, while they are over there. You are together. You are sharing this experience as a team – you are climbing that mountain together, so no one gets left behind. You want them to know that they are not alone.

 625.
The first part (Me) is putting your own skin in the game. You have to give them something first. The second part (We) tells them that they are not alone. The third part (You) is where you ask if they have ever experienced that same thought, feeling, or encounter? Here’s how it might sound:

 626.
“There was a time when I didn’t think I was good enough to be a speaker. I was a single mom. I was a black woman. Was I relatable to my audience? Was I going to be good enough to be a speaker, a CEO? We have a tendency to have a desire, a dream, or a goal, and then almost instantly question, ‘are we the person to make it happen?’ Has there ever been a time in your life when you wanted something, and you really, really felt like it was something that you could handle, but then instantly questioned yourself?”

 627.
So many people, in their everyday lives, feel like it’s them against the world. They don’t have a support system at home or at work, and they are trying to build a strong business, platform, community or family. Nobody understands what they are doing. You understand. You are the person who can give them the connection they so strongly crave. There’s a lot of power in this connection.

 628.
Now, remember, this is not just a monologue. I am not performing for you. This is a dialogue community. I would love to hear from you. I would love to know what’s on your heart. I would love to know one of the biggest ah-has you had from this episode. What did you hear about those two techniques? Have you already been unconsciously doing them?

 629.
Make sure that you leave a comment below and be sure to subscribe. Listen, I don’t want a quickie. This is not about you just coming and going. This is about us staying together, walking the journey. We want to walk that journey with you in growth, transformation, exploration, and expansion: we want you to win. Watch for more amazing content in the future, because we’re all a part of the same tribe. And when I say, I believe in you and I love you, it’s because I do. I’ll see you soon.

 749.
Hi, and welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show. Today, I want to talk about a question I get asked pretty regularly: How do I get people motivated to take action and change when I know how they are acting is not healthy?

 750.
You know I love reading your comments, and one viewer named Mimi hit the nail on the head with her comment on a previous episode. She said, “Everyone learns at their own pace. Some will eventually get it and some will never get it. Accept them as they are and lead by example. “ Mimi, I love this so much. I struggle with this question about changing others, because we can’t actually change anyone. They have to want to change. All we can do is show them the way when they are ready.

 751.
People are watching you more than they are listening to you. If you want to impact their lives and help them to change, show them rather than tell them. Model the behavior and actions that you know would be best for you (and perhaps, for them). They have the choice to meet you where you are, or stay the same. You cannot make that decision for them. When you shift direction in your own behavior, and you stop engaging in the arguing or pettiness, others will shift to meet your behaviors – if they want that change in their own lives.

 752.
So, what happens when you try to force change? Usually, it results in resentment and the relationship becomes strained and difficult. Your heart is in the right place. You want your family and friends to be the best versions of themselves. But take a minute to put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if someone was telling you that you needed to change? You might feel “not good enough” or that they don’t love you the way that you are. Without meaning to be hurtful, you might be hurting people when you tell them they need to change.

 753.
There’s a statistic that 50% of marriages that end in divorce end that way because one person went into the marriage thinking that the other person would change. You cannot expect another person to change – you must love them and accept them exactly as they are. If you can’t do that, then you shouldn’t enter into a relationship with them in the first place. Now that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to shift and change – healthy people with a growth mindset are going to evolve. The key is to enter into a relationship with someone who has the same core values and ideals that you have, and grow together into better versions of yourselves.

 754.
Maybe there was a time when you didn’t engage with this channel, because you weren’t ready, but here you are now. You saw that there was a better way by engaging with this channel or others who inspire you. You are changing because the time is right for you. Your circumstances dictate when you decide to change… but you can’t expect everyone to change and grow at the same pace as you. They aren’t having the same life experiences that you are having, or if they are having those experiences, they aren’t responding to them in the same way that you are.

 755.
You have the decision to “opt-in” or opt-out” of a relationship, job, or experience. You need to make that decision. If you decide to opt-in, you must accept, love and respect the situation with your whole heart. Not everyone has to be exactly like you, but they can follow your lead if they choose to do that.

 756.
Your job is to be 100% YOU – lead by example with your unique blend of qualities that you have developed over your lifetime. You are the culmination of everyone you have experienced in your life – your parents, grandparents, siblings, partners, friends and children. You pick up ideas and habits from the people you are exposed to, and you get to choose who those people are. Your example is a powerful motivator – you don’t need to say anything. Just be the awesome person that you are, and let others follow your lead.

 757.
Maybe you have watched a video here, and started to implement what you learned, even though we have never met in person. Maybe a boss or a mentor taught you a better way to do something, and you added that to your personal experience. Maybe your child softened you or your mother taught you how to handle a situation with a sibling. We are constantly learning from others, even when we don’t realize it.

 758.
Do you see how you have changed and evolved over your lifetime? Did you change because someone gave you an ultimatum and told you that you had to change, or did you change by watching what others were doing or seeking out information on your own? That’s how leading by example works. So, when you have someone in your life that isn’t living their best life, telling them to change isn’t going to help them to do so. Setting a good example with your actions can inspire others to change on their own.

 759.
I believe in you. You can absolutely help the world to change by modeling the change you want to see. I would love to read your comments below. Share your ah-ha moments and breakthroughs. I love seeing the change that this community is bringing into the world! We are all learning from one another. If you haven’t subscribed, please do that, so you don’t miss out on a single episode! Thank you for being a changemaker. I love you. And I’ll see you real soon.

 830.

This week, I want to talk about your message and the importance of sharing it with the world. Sometimes, we get caught up in our own fears, and that keeps us from sharing our gifts. Our ego makes it all about us: our fears about being judged or not being “good enough” to share our stories.

 877.
This week, I want to talk about your message and the importance of sharing it with the world. Sometimes, we get caught up in our own fears, and that keeps us from sharing our gifts. Our ego makes it all about us: our fears about being judged or not being “good enough” to share our stories. Instead, we should be focusing on how our message could inspire others to take important actions in their own lives, putting the focus on them and off of ourselves. Recently, Edith wrote to me about an episode I did called, “How to Stay Motivated and Excited.” She said, “I recognize that I am under-acknowledged, and I am going to celebrate myself more often, starting today.” I love this. The way you honor and acknowledge yourself is the way others will honor and acknowledge you! It’s your job to give them the best possible example of how you want to be treated.

 878.
Another member of our tribe, Monique, wrote to me about an episode entitled, “Master One Lesson before Taking on the Next.” She wrote, “I’m learning that my ego and my actions don’t live on the same block.” When we allow our egos to keep us from acting, we are denying the world our gifts. We aren’t allowing ourselves to get up on that stage and hold that mic and tell our stories. Those are stories that the world needs to hear – and you’re letting your ego keep you from sharing it! When you stay small, you are keeping everyone small. Think about that for a minute – it’s your responsibility to shine your light for others to be guided.

 879.
You might say, “But, Lisa. I am terrified to speak in front of a group.” Research shows that public speaking is the number one fear in the world. But it’s really just speaking – you speak every day. What you really fear is saying the wrong thing, or stumbling over your words because you’re nervous. I’d invite you to try this: instead of speaking to the group, speak to one person, and then another person – just one person at a time. Don’t think about speaking to 100 people – think about speaking to one person. You do that every day! You speak to people in your office, or at the grocery store, or picking up your child from school.

 880.
Your ego controls the part of you that wants to stay small to keep from being judged, but in reality, nobody is judging you – not really. Most people are more worried about what others think of them than what they think about other people! Isn’t that ironic? Don’t get me wrong, we do need our egos – they can come along for the ride – but we must not let our egos drive the train. Our egos will derail us so quickly, reminding us that we’re not smart enough, educated enough, articulate enough – just not good enough. And that’s just not true.

 881.
How often have you listened to someone speak, and thought about whether or not they were “good enough” to share that message with you? Probably never. We think about the things that the speaker is telling us that resonates with us – the ah-ha moments, the takeaways, and the things that touch our hearts about their own story. We aren’t thinking about if they messed up a few words or lost their place for a second. We are thinking about their beautiful message and how it affects us.

 882.
When I started speaking, I was afraid of being judged, too. I was an overweight African-American woman with only $11.42 in the bank. I didn’t know how people would receive me as a single mom who was speaking to inspire others. My life hadn’t been easy, and I was still struggling myself, but do you know what happened? People were attracted to my conviction. They could relate to my story and were inspired by my bravery. I don’t ever worry about my speech – I focus on my story. I’m so glad I told my ego to quiet down so I could share my message. If I hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t be meeting in this beautiful community, and I love this family we’ve created together. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to my ego – I shared my story, and you know the rest!

 883.
What are the ways your ego is getting in your way to greatness? What are some tricks or tips you have found helpful when you feel the ego creeping in, trying to keep you small? Share your thoughts in the comments below. You know I love to read your comments! What are your ah-ha moments from this episode? What questions did this episode bring up for you? I love your questions! This is a dialogue, not a monologue. We are a family, and I love you and believe in you. I want you to master your ego – you are in charge. You are in the driver’s seat. If you haven’t already subscribed, do that now! I’ll see you real soon!

 1000.
Hi there, and welcome back! Today, we’re going to talk about your power to choose your life. Do you believe me when I tell you that YOU GET TO CHOOSE THE LIFE YOU LEAD? Let’s get that established right here, right now. You are not the product of what has happened in the past, including what might be happening right now. No matter what the present moment looks like, you get to choose. Now, I’m not saying it will be easy, and it definitely may not always be comfortable, but it is always possible. And please don’t let any situation or any person make you think otherwise. While a lot of unexpected things happen to us in our lives, it doesn’t mean that we don’t get to navigate our life experiences.

 1001.
You will have to become someone you may never have thought you’d have to become. You may have to do some things you never thought you’d have to do, or go some places you never thought you’d have to go, or pull some things outta you that you didn’t even know you had in you. But the truth is, you get to design your destiny. You are the author of your autobiography. You get to create your life story. You may not determine every character. Even if you’re not crazy about every person or situation, it doesn’t change the fact that no one gets to write your story but you. You must put yourself in the driver’s seat – don’t let anyone else decide your future!

 1002.
So often, I meet people who don’t believe that their dreams are possible for them. They get so used to looking at other people’s lives through the windows of social media or television and they wonder, “What do I need to do to get this?” You need to remember that what you see is a very small part of the picture. People are not posting about all of the daily struggles and hard work they are putting in – they post the finished product, all shiny and perfect. When you see this, you can flip it around and ask yourself, “What did they have to do to get there? How many hours did they have to work? How many times did they fail?” We are humans, and I can promise you, none of these things happened by sheer luck. There is nothing you see that you can’t do yourself with the right mindset and belief in yourself – and the hard work.

 1003.
I know it’s tempting to fall into the narrative that life should be easy. It can be easier than it is now, but you have to choose it. And then you have to choose your conviction. Choose conviction over convenience. That’s the game changer, the deciding factor. That’s what distinguishes people who are living the life they know they can live from the people who know that they deserve a better life, but they don’t have the commitment to living their conviction over their convenience. The thing that I see that holds most people back isn’t their lack of knowledge. It isn’t their lack of money. It’s not the lack of opportunity. It is their mindset.

 1004.
I know what you’re facing, because I was there. You know, for maybe 13 years, I felt like I was living one version of myself, meaning I was showing up as someone who was “nice.” She was assertive, she was kind, and she was goal-oriented – but she was just like about 15% of the woman I knew myself to be. The 15% that I was putting out there impressed people, or at least it got me by. Do you know what I mean? I was doing just enough to get by, but there was so much more I could have done. When people started paying me compliments and telling me what a wonderful job I was doing, I felt like I was doing better than a lot of people around me. That’s an easy trap to fall into – feeling like you’re doing better than the people around you – because it can keep you from trying harder. How many times have you thought, “Well, at least I’m doing better than that person over there?” You can do even better. You just need to choose it!

 1005.
For me, knowing that I was doing better than people around me didn’t change the fact that I knew I could do more – I had more in my heart and soul that I could bring into the world. I had to be my own “hype woman,” because that was how I was going to reach that 100%. You need to do that for yourself – be your biggest cheerleader. Sometimes you may be the only one in the stands cheering for you, and that’s okay. You have to be willing to understand that even if you get knocked down, if you can look up, you can get up. You need to recognize that if you can walk, then you can turn your walk into a run. And if you can run, man, you can turn your run into a soar. But you also need to know that even if you’re crawling, you can turn your crawl into a walk first. Start from wherever you are right now.

 1006.
You’ve got to be willing to give yourself your time. Look in the mirror daily and remind yourself who you are, who you’ve become. Pat yourself on the back for who you’ve been. And then remind yourself that abundance, happiness, joy, and living on purpose is your birthright. You get to be happy in your health. You get to be happy in your wealth, and in your finances. You get to be happy in your relationships, and you get to be happy in your spirituality. So, today I extend an invitation, as your sister, for you to stand up and call your future self into the present. Stand up and demand to yourself that you transform into the next best version of you. Don’t make it optional. Demand it of yourself.

 1007.
I want to give you this powerful affirmation, which is just a series of statements. These affirmations turned my crawl into a walk, and my walk into a run. And you know the rest. I had to declare it to myself even when my life didn’t look like it at all; when my life did not match my statements. I had to keep making the statements boldly until my life reflected who I know myself to be. So, please say these words every day. Say them until you believe them:

 1008.
I stand here in my greatness.
1009. I own my light.
1010. I own my brilliance.
1011. I am enough.
1012. I’m bold; I’m courageous.
1013. I am perfect in my imperfection.
1014. This is my time.
1015. I am bright enough.
1016. I am old enough. – or – I am young enough.
1017. I’ve experienced enough.
1018. I’m wise enough.
1019. I understand who I am.
1020. I embrace who I choose to become.
1021. I’m unapologetic about my intentions.
1022. Get ready. Here I come.

 1023.
I want you to save these words. Print them out and put them somewhere so you can see them. I used to have statements all over my house. I still have them in places, but I had them on my bathroom mirror. I had them posted on my refrigerator. I had one on the back of my front door and the one on the back of my back door. It’s been over 22 years. I still know what it said: “The world is ready for my greatness and I’m ready for the world.” I still remember it because it spoke to me.

 1024.
When fear creeps in, when doubt creeps in, when naysayers creep in, when haters throw, and the doubt sounds louder than the possibility, turn around and look at these statements. Read them and say, “Oh, I forgot who I was. Let me remind myself I am enough!” Say these words and then keep going.

 1025.
This is a judgment free zone. This is a place where you come and you can bring all your genius, and we won’t put you down for that. Or you can bring all your curiosity questions and concerns, and we won’t put you down for that, either. We’re going to love you now, and we’re going to love the person you’re becoming. So, leave a comment below and let me know which of these affirmations really set you on fire. Or, what did you need to remember? What did you need to hear? What did you need to be reminded of?

 1026.
I really love to hear from you. This is a dialogue; a courageous, grown folk conversation. If you haven’t already, please make sure that you subscribe to my channel. This is the place where we come to keep moving together. Click the bell notification to be notified when new episodes drop. And remember this, every single time that I say that I believe in you and that I love you. It’s not because it’s my closing statement, or that I’ve run outta words. It’s because I truly do. And if you haven’t heard anyone say it lately, I believe in you and I love you. I’ll see you in the next episode.

 1142.
Hi, there! Welcome back to the place where we discover the tools we need to live our lives in abundance! And THAT is what we’re talking about today – abundance and the myths that surround it. What comes up for you when you hear the word “abundance?” Do you think of wealth? Do you have thoughts of unworthiness or that abundance isn’t for you? These are some of the things that come to people around this topic, and we’re going to dig deeper into abundance: what it is, and what it’s not, and how to really embody it in your life.

 1143.
When I was growing up, nobody was talking about abundance. They used words like “prayer” or “wealth” or even “birthright,” but nobody was saying that we all have the ability to live in abundance. I know that I heard people say things like, “Wealth and prosperity is only for the chosen few,” or “You have to be born into the right circumstances. People like us don’t live that way.” Oh my gosh. If this is what people think about abundance, no wonder it seems so hard to get!

 1144.
But we don’t get it – we embody it. And when we do, we can expand it in all areas of our lives, because abundance isn’t just about money. It’s a 360 experience that encompasses all areas of life: wealth and finances, health and wellbeing, relationships, spirituality, joy and energy. We have to believe it in our hearts and souls, and let the words that we speak move us in that way. If you constantly say that abundance isn’t for you, then you can bet that it will not be part of your experience.

 1145.
So, let’s get to the truths about abundance by taking a look at some of the myths that surround it. I’m sure these will sound very familiar to you, and now is the time to get yourself into alignment with your abundance, and put these myths to rest, once and for all. We can live in the truth that abundance is who we are, and it is our right and responsibility to live abundantly for ourselves and for the good it will allow us to do in the world.

 1146.
Myth #1: Abundance is only for Some People

 1147.
This is a big one. And I used to believe this myself, because I was working to survive, constantly hustling to pay my bills. I had the mindset that wealth and prosperity were unattainable, and I just needed to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. This is not true! We are meant to thrive, not just survive. We may not experience abundance in all areas of our lives at all times, but when we shift our mindset to recognize that it’s all available to us, we can operate from a place of abundance instead of hustling to survive.

 1148.
Have you ever heard anyone refer to the “haves” and the “have nots?” These are labels put on people, like a judgment coming down to decide who can be abundant and who cannot. This isn’t how it works! Regardless of your circumstances, your race, gender, socio-economic circumstances or geography, you were designed to be abundant. It doesn’t matter where the starting line is – we can all choose to step into our abundance. And when you start to choose it, you will see changes.

 1149.
Now you know that some people will think this is crazy – they are looking around and saying, “Nobody from my neighborhood/family/workplace is abundant.” They are linking abundance to what they see externally, not realizing that if they love someone, and are loved in return, they are abundant. If they are grateful and joyful in their work, they are abundant. The key is to own that abundance – claim it! And the more you start to claim it, the more you will expand it. Abundance is available to everyone. And if you are looking for financial abundance, that can come, too.

 1150.
Start working from a place of abundance. Instead of saying, “I just need to make X number of dollars to pay my bills,” you can try something like, “I love creating more abundance in my life, and I am happy to keep working toward increasing it.” How does each of these statements feel in your body when you say them to yourself? Changing your mindset to one of working into abundance rather than a mindset of running from scarcity can make a huge difference.

 1151.
Myth #2: Abundance is Only about Wealth and Finances

 1152.
This is a common misconception. When you hear the word “abundance,” what do you think of? If you automatically think of money, you are only getting one piece of the pie. Abundance is about so much more than just money. You can have abundance in your health, relationships, spiritual connection, and every other aspect of your life. Very few people get to the final season of their lives and wish that they had worked more or made more money. They always focus on their relationships: family, friends and romantic partners. They talk about wishing they had taken better care of their health; and they think about the enrichment of spiritual practices and connection to a higher power.

 1153.
I loved talking to my grandmother in the few years before her passing. I wanted to make sure that she got everything out of life that she could, so I asked her, “Grandma, is there anything that you still wanted to do?” I was in a financial place to help her do what she desired, and I really wanted to know if there was any place she wanted to see or something she wanted to do.

 1154.
I’ll never forget the words she shared with me. She said, “No, baby. I danced as much as I wanted to dance. And I laughed as much as I wanted to laugh. I traveled the world. I had a good time and took pictures everywhere I went. Lisa, I’m good.” Isn’t that beautiful? My grandma was abundant – not just in the financial sense – she lived, loved and laughed. She was abundant in her spiritual life, her relationships and in joy. I can’t think of a better way to finish life.

 1155.
I have been with others in their final days, and they never listed off the number of businesses they had, how much money they made, or how many books they authored. They always looked at their spiritual life, their health and their relationships. I once sat with a new friend, and he said, “Lisa, I’m worth over 50 billion dollars. I spent my lifetime focused on making money, and now I spend all of my money trying to get my relationships and my health back.” He died within four years, and I don’t know if he was ever able to amend his relationships with his children. Abundance is so much more than your bank balance.

 1156.
You see, abundance speaks to every area of your life. When you’re in a state of abundance, you’re in a state of overflow. Abundance is overflowing in all areas of life – not all at the same time – but in all areas. Your life won’t be perfect, but it will be abundant, which is far more desirable than struggling.

 1157.

 1158.
Myth #3: Abundance is Outside of You

 1159.
Sometimes we think that we have to go looking for abundance. Where do I go get abundance? We have a Google mindset – we are so used to finding all of the answers from Alexa or Siri. But that’s not how abundance works. You can’t find it outside of yourself. You must embody it and expand it. You have the power to shift things in your life right now. But that’s the thing – we don’t get abundance. We are abundance. It’s here right now, but we have to decide whether or not to embody it. We get to choose whether or not to expand it. If you’re hunting for abundance, I’m sorry to tell you, you’re never going to find it outside of yourself.

 1160.
Stop for a minute and think to yourself, “I am abundant. I am working to expand my abundance, which allows me to serve myself, my family and the world.” How does that feel in your body when compared to “I need to make this much money to pay these bills?” Can you feel the difference in energy around each statement? This is the first step in learning to encompass your abundance in your mind. You have to believe it, and remind yourself of your abundance every day. You could write an affirmation, prayer, or mantra to remind yourself every single day that abundance IS IN YOU. It can be as easy as a sticky note on your bathroom mirror or in your car that simply says, “I am abundant.” Abundance is your absolute birthright, and I want you to claim it right now.

 1161.
Take the time and make the effort to expand the abundance you already have. Is there a relationship that’s good, but not great? What can you do to make that relationship more abundant? What do you need? What does the other person need? Have a conversation and make a plan to increase the abundance for both of you. Open up your communication and your abundance will expand. Be open to seeing the possibilities instead of just the problems.

 1162.
So, let’s recap. In order to be more abundant, we have to have an abundant mindset. We need to work, love, live, worship and play with abundance. We need to let go of our limitations and recognize that abundance is our birthright. It encompasses all areas of our lives, not just our finances. Abundance is for EVERYONE, not just the chosen few. We are all worthy of abundance! Please remember to share your insights in the comments below – I love reading them! Tell me how you are increasing your abundance, and what you saw here that was an ah-ha moment for you. This is your tribe, your community. I love you and I believe in you. And I’ll see you real soon!

 1278.
Hello, and welcome back! This is the space where we learn how to be the best versions of ourselves with strategies and tools to improve our lives. Today I’m excited to talk to you about the benefits of connecting with nature. I think it’s something that I discounted for a long time, but the reality is that nature gives us ENERGY. It helps to balance and recalibrate us. We need to feel the water, the sand, the grass and the dirt. Nature brings us back home to our bodies as we connect to it and enjoy its healing properties.

 1279.
When I was a kid, I didn’t have to think about this at all – I spent so much time outside, especially in the summer. After doing my morning chores as fast as I could, I would run outside and my parents wouldn’t see me again until dusk. As an adult, summer doesn’t mean the same thing – we don’t get that time off to play outside for three months like we did as children. The older we get, the more time we tend to spend indoors, so we need to decide to get outside and get in touch with nature. If we just wait for it to happen, it probably won’t. Maybe you are someone who gets out into nature to walk, bike, hike or swim regularly – that’s awesome! Most of us just don’t, especially if we live in big cities. Then we need to make that effort to take a walk and get some sunshine and fresh air.

 1280.
I recently went on vacation with my husband – it was our first vacation as husband and wife – and we went to Nice, France. While I was there, I decided that every day I was going to get up and get in this phenomenal infinity pool. It was so beautiful, and I loved swimming laps in it every morning. And then I thought to myself how silly it was that I only took the time to do this while on vacation. I have a pool in my backyard that I hardly ever get in! I just wasn’t being conscious about how good it feels to get in the pool and move my body in the water. And then I also got Vitamin D. During Covid, my doctor was telling me how important it is to keep my Vitamin D levels high for my immunity, and yes, I can take a supplement, but I can also get out in the sun and get my Vitamin D from that. Vitamin D protects us from being run-down, which keeps our immune system in good shape to protect us from getting sick.

 1281.
Another important way to get into nature is to get into the dirt, sand, and grass. I used to suffer from terrible jet lag. I would go on four or five trips, to two or three different countries, back to back. My biggest challenge was jet lag. Do you know what cured my jet lag? A process called grounding, which I didn’t even know existed, but it helped me so much. Grounding involves taking your shoes off, and going out into the grass, the dirt or the sand. Don’t do this on concrete – it needs to be natural. You simply stand or walk around for at least 20 minutes, feeling the earth. This allows your body to recalibrate to the new elements, regardless of the time change. I haven’t had jet lag in over 12 years. I know that sounds crazy, but believe me, it works!

 1282.
I want you to think about some ways that you can be outdoors – how can you receive the benefits of the wind, water, sun, sand, dirt, grass and trees? How can you allow nature to bring you peace, reduce your stress, bring you joy, and allow you to feel more centered? You may not be athletic, and that’s ok, but taking a walk and just breathing in the fresh air and sunshine will lift you up in body, mind and spirit.

 1283.
While we have this conversation about what we get from nature, I think it’s also important to talk about what we give back to nature. We want this earth to be able to provide for future generations, and in order for that to happen, we need to make the efforts necessary to take good care of it. Now I realize, not everyone can go out and plant trees or clean up the waterways. But there are lots of ways that you can help just by making a few simple changes.

 1284.
Recycling is an easy and obvious way we can help nature. If you’re not already doing this, it’s not too late to start. You can also pay attention to how things are made – you can buy items in glass instead of plastic, which is much easier to recycle, and uses fewer harmful chemicals. Look for items made out of recycled materials. Buy products that use fewer chemicals that are harmful to the earth – it takes a few minutes to read and research, and then once you know what products to buy, it’s easy! You can bring your own reusable shopping bags to the store with you, so you don’t need to use the plastic bags at the store.

 1285.
These things take so little effort, but if everyone did them, it would make a big difference. Think about how the earth sustains us and gives us life – and we can do our part to give back to the earth. So this week, I would challenge you to start one new habit that gives back to nature, whether it’s recycling, buying earth-friendly products or taking your own shopping bags to the store. We can do this!

 1286.
I would also invite you to find ways to connect with nature – go on a 10-minute walk during your lunch break, or find some time to take a swim or walk barefoot on the sand or grass to get the benefits of grounding. Breathe a little deeper while you’re outside – soak up the sun and boost your Vitamin D levels. Find ways to connect with – and give back to – nature.

 1287.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this today – as always, I want to remind you that this isn’t just a monologue, it’s a dialogue. Please share your comments with me and tell me some ways that you connect with nature. Tell me about ways you give back to nature, and how you feel when you spend more time outdoors. If you haven’t already done so, I invite you to subscribe to the channel, which brings this content to more people who can increase the quality of their lives by connecting with this tribe of beautiful beings. When I say that I love you and I believe in you, it’s because I do. I really do love you in the purest form of agape love. You matter to me. I’ll see you next time.
