<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hello, and welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show, where we gather as a community of unicorns and gladiators to discuss tips and tools for living your best life in every season. We all have dreams and goals, but the journey to achieving them is rarely smooth. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we get knocked down. We’ve all been there—a coaching client backs out of your program, you get hit with an unexpected car repair, or you get sick or injured, and have to take some time off to recover.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’ll be obstacles, setbacks, failures, and breakdowns, but remember, every setback is actually a setup to a comeback. When things go wrong, it can feel disheartening and discouraging, and you might be tempted to give up. But let me tell you something: the most successful people in the world are not those who never fail, but those who never, ever quit. So how do you keep going when things get tough or when it feels as if everything you’re trying isn’t working? </span></p>
<p><b>Reframe your mindset</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">See challenges as opportunities for growth, not as roadblocks. Take the time you need to stop, breathe, and reset. Get out in nature to get grounded, listen to uplifting music or podcasts, and take this moment to bring the joy back to your soul. Remember, diamonds are formed under pressure. You, my friend, are a diamond. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">S</span><b>tay focused on</b> <b>your</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “</span><b>why”</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Your “why” is the reason you’re pursuing the goal in the first place. It’s what keeps you motivated and driven. Take the time to stop and remind yourself why you chose to pursue this goal, dream, and life. Do you want to prove to yourself that you deserve better than the way you are living? Are you setting an example for the people you love, inspiring them to live better lives? When things are getting tough or when no one else understands your vision, remind yourself of your “why.” Let go of the “when” and the “how” for just a minute, and get back to your “why.”</span></p>
<p><b>Seek support</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You don’t have to do all of this alone, Lone Ranger. Reach out to mentors. Join a community or find a coach. Surround yourself with like-minded, like-hearted people who will lift you up and inspire you to keep going—and realize that sometimes they might not be the people that you live with, and that’s ok. Remember, it’s not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up. So keep getting up, keep pushing, and keep believing in your dreams. My daddy used to say, “</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Baby girl, I’m not going to teach you how to always fly, because sometimes you’re not going to fly. I’m going to teach you how to bounce back all the time, so that when you fall, it’s just for a moment. You can get knocked down, but you don’t ever have to stay down.</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">” I remember those words when I feel discouraged or when the obstacles seem insurmountable.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Remember, I’m your sister in this journey. Today, I’m sitting in the coliseum that I worked in when I was 18 years old, back when I had no idea who Lisa could become. I had more questions, more confusion, and Lord knows more insecurities than I’d ever imagined. Here’s what I did. I just kept going. I just kept getting back up. This is my first time back in the coliseum since 1984. And while it looks the same, I’m not the same woman as I sit here today. My perseverance has brought me to a place that 18-year-old Lisa never could have imagined, because I kept going, even when things got tough, and I’m so glad that I did.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As you continue to transform and continue to become, know that I’ll continue to be by your side in the journey. This community will be here, cheering you on, so please visit often to keep your momentum, even when you want to quit. Leave a comment below and tell me how you deal with obstacles on your journey. We all can learn from each other while we hold each other up, regardless of our adversities.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Over my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with countless coaches, trainers, CEOs, and influencers in the industry, and while each of these professionals is different and unique, what I’ve noticed is that most are vulnerable to believing the common myths that circulate through the community—and I am here to dispel those myths that keep us from fully shining our light.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you missed parts one and two, please check out the links below and play catch up! In Part One, we talked about the myth that “the coaching industry is saturated.” That’s simply not true. As more and more people become aware of how coaching and self development can help them achieve their life’s goals, the more coaches will be needed to satisfy the demand. So, no. The coaching market is far from being saturated. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The second myth (in Part Two), was that we need to use a flashy marketing strategy to get clients, and that marketing can make up for lack of confidence and certainty. People want to work with coaches who can authentically meet them where they are and help them to grow. It’s important that your clients believe in you and trust you, regardless of your marketing. Show people how you can help them, and that you genuinely care, and they will naturally gravitate toward you.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So today, we’re going to bust Myth #3, which is:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I need to speak, coach, and build my business exactly like other leaders in the industry.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Let me ask you a question. If your clients wanted to work with Coach X, why wouldn’t they go directly to them? Why would they engage with a carbon copy when they could work with the original? Your clients want to work with you, not someone that they don’t know. So stop trying to be someone that you are not—just be MORE of who you are! Bring forth your natural gifts, talents, and personal experiences that made you the inspirational leader that you’ve become. Duplication is a disservice to you and your clients.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Besides the inauthenticity of trying to be someone you’re not, you cannot become someone else. Their own life path and experience brought them to where they are—and your experiences are different and unique to you, so work with that. Take everything you’ve learned and use it to help your clients. Look, your clients don’t need a guru. They just need someone who is a few steps ahead of them on their path. They need someone who has done the work to get from where they are to where you are, and nobody knows that path better than you!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you need help in building your business, find mentors that you know, or coaches in our MTM community, who serve students at every level of development. Your job is not to duplicate, but to develop your own unique formula using the tools provided by your mentors and coaches, and tweaking them to fit your own authentic story and style of coaching. This is a multi-billion dollar industry, and there is plenty of room for a multitude of coaching styles. What is your secret sauce? What’s something you can do differently that speaks to your audience? I would invite you to spend less energy trying to do what someone else is doing, and look inside yourself to discover the personal blueprint that will create success in your business. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hi, there! Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show, where we come together as a community to share the tools and encouragement that we all need to achieve our goals to live our best lives. I’m so glad you’re here. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Over the years in my career, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with countless coaches, trainers, speakers, facilitators, and change agents. While all of these incredible leaders are unique, there’s a common thread that I’ve noticed over the years: coaches and trainers are vulnerable to some common myths that stop them from achieving their best lives. In part one of this three-part series, we busted the myth that the market is saturated with coaches, trainers, and mentors—that simply isn’t true! </span></p>

But today, we’re going to talk about a second common myth that holds coaches and trainers back:</span></p>
<p><b>A strong marketing strategy will make up for a lack of confidence and certainty.</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oh, no, it will not! Let me tell you something—all of the glitzy marketing in the world isn’t going to make up for your lack of confidence, or your lack of certainty. You cannot compensate for your personal insecurities by throwing money at it with expensive, glitzy, glamourous marketing strategies. When I started out, I didn’t have the money to pay for expensive marketing, and at the end of the day, that was really a blessing. It meant that I had to cultivate my confidence. I had to learn how to walk into a room knowing that what I was offering was exactly what people needed. Embodying more certainty comes from applied action. You must do the work and facilitate those skills over and over again.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Look, we all have to face the reality that nothing outside of us is certain. We have to stop giving our power to external security and start finding that certainty within ourselves. Nobody is going to hire you because you have the best marketing strategy. Read that again—nobody is hiring you because of your marketing. They are hiring you because of your certainty. They want a coach or trainer who is </span><b>confident</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that they can deliver on the growth strategies, inspiration, and empowerment that clients crave.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So, you might be wondering how to build this confidence and certainty? It’s the same strategy that you would build anything else—you must do the work. When you want to create a healthier body, are you going to take the elevator, or are you going to climb those stairs, building muscles and stamina with each step? In your business building, you need to do the work. You need to have conversations. You need to get in front of people and share your story. Show people how you can help them. A snazzy marketing strategy is like taking the elevator—it’s a fast way to attract clients, but it doesn’t make you better at your skills. Marketing might get people’s attention in the short term, but your certainty and confidence will inspire them to work with you, instead of just looking at your website and never taking the necessary action.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I think we can safely say that we have busted myth #2 – that a strong marketing strategy will make up for lack of confidence and certainty. It certainly won’t! <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hi there. Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show, where I share the tools that we need to live our best lives. During the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many coaches, trainers, and facilitators around the world who work in personal and business development. After working with so many people in this industry, I’ve noticed something—a lot of coaches are holding themselves back because of common myths they are hearing. And believing. I want to bust these myths one by one to help you to connect with your purpose. I know that what you’ve got is too good to keep to yourself, so let’s start with the most common myth I hear:</span></p>
<p><b>Myth #1 The Market is Saturated</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This might show up in several different ways for you. Perhaps you’ve heard yourself saying things like:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are so many coaches and trainers out there. I have nothing unique to add.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">What I teach about this has already been taught. I’m late to the party.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Everyone else is already talking about this topic. What do I have to add to the conversation?</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">No one’s going to want to hear from me. There are so many brilliant coaches out there.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">I don’t have anything different to add. It’s all been said before.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I have good news for you—no one is coaching and training the way that you do. There are a whole group of people out there who are waiting for you. There are people that don’t know about these other coaches and trainers. </span><b>They know you.</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Only you can deliver it in your own unique way. Think about when you were a kid. Two different people could tell you the same thing, and you would listen to one, and the other’s words would fall on deaf ears. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s the same way with coaching and training. It’s not </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">only </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">the message. It’s the messenger. You have a unique way of delivering; a unique fingerprint. There are a group of people who are in complete alignment with how you bring your message to the world, and they’re just waiting for you, even if they don’t realize it—yet.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The need and demand for transformation is greater than it’s ever been. Actually, the need is higher than the supply right now. Take a look at the world we live in. People are hungry for mental and emotional wellness, and they value communication and connection, but many are not finding it. You can fulfill that need for so many people. Now, I’m not saying you should just jump into this market. If you’re not already trained and certified, you will need to get your education and training first, but so many beautiful souls are waiting for you to help them. The market is by no means saturated when you take a look at the demand for this transformational work.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Remember—people work with people they know, like, and trust. Your personality, presentation, and purpose are unique to you. How you deliver your message is exclusive to you, regardless of whether or not others have shared the same message. Think about </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">what will drive your right-fit client to you?</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Delivering your authenticity, passion, and message in a way that speaks to your ideal client will make all the difference.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So is the market saturated? No—we’ve busted this myth. My goal here was to let you know that if you feel called to coach and train people, there are so many souls waiting to hear your message. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show—I’m so excited you’re here! We’ve discussed a lot of strategies and business building techniques in our time together, but today, I want to share something that can make or break your business. It’s not a product or service, or anything that you need to buy; it’s something you already possess. It’s you. You are the one that people are going to like, because they are drawn to your authenticity, your message, and your mission.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For people to like and follow you, you have to get to the strong essence of your “why” and get hungry for it. You’re not going to go after it unless you’re hungry enough. You need to remove all of the other options, and be willing to learn, grow, and </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">be uncomfortable</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Oh, yes. It’s going to take some strength to sit in that uncomfortable space of uncertainty while you build, which is why it’s important for you to be so hungry. There is no way you’ll give up if you want it badly enough.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You’ve got to be a </span><b>unicorn</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Yes, a unicorn—the kind of person who is willing to be unique, willing to be different, and willing to stand out in the crowd. So many people are doing ordinary things and expect to get extraordinary results. The path of ordinary will never get you to extraordinary. You must stand out from the crowd, even if it’s uncomfortable at first.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You don’t want to be somebody else’s clone. You’re meant to be you. You are one of a kind. You are a miracle. If you are following the crowd, you are not being the unicorn that you were created to be. Keep discovering who you are and who you’re becoming. Be different. Be unique. You are your own USP: Unique Serving Proposition. You might be doing the same thing that someone else is doing, but nobody else can do it quite like you.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You might only achieve micro wins, but you know what? Micro win, after micro win, after micro win makes a macro win that helps you to achieve a macro goal. </span><b>Are you ready</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">? Are you ready to not make your past equal your future? Are you ready to feel the fear and do it anyway? Are you willing to confront your limiting beliefs that stand between you and the life you deserve? Are you willing to pursue your dreams with a level of conviction, courage, and passion like you’ve never done before?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There is no secret sauce. It all starts with you. So, are you going to work for it? Are you going put in the time? Are you going to stop making excuses? If you’re coming up with 100 reasons why this isn’t going to work, you’re right—because you don’t want it bad enough. I want you to win because I truly believe in you, and I love you. That’s not just some schtick. I really mean it. Because you’re here, I know that you have that fire in your belly to make it happen. You might still be playing it safe on the ordinary path, but you know you’re meant for more. You know like you know that you were put on this earth for more. Your higher power has a plan for you, and it’s up to you to see it through. Nobody can do it for you, and there’s no magic potion. Get excited about being you and shine that light for all to see. You weren’t meant to keep it for yourself!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I can’t wait to see the Transformed You—the unicorn you are and the you that you’re becoming. You will be amazed at who you’re becoming, and I’ll be right beside you for the journey, reminding you that I believe in you, and I love you. As always, I want to hear from you. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hi there, and welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show. I love having you here in this community to connect and build better lives together. You may not know it, but it matters to me and to our family that you are here with us, because together, we can achieve more, grow more, and connect more to impact the world. I’m at the point in my career where I have learned so much through my own trials and errors that I can share that valuable information to help you on your journey.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Today, I want to tell you about some of the things that will help you become a great keynote speaker. Now you might be saying, “Lisa, I just post videos on social media. I’m not speaking to a large live audience.” That doesn’t matter. I don’t care if you’re speaking to one person, or hundreds of people. It doesn’t matter if you’re recording a video in your car, or standing on a stage in an auditorium. You need to treat your audience as if you’re speaking to a filled stadium, every time. So, I’m here to share my Top 3 Tips for making your speaking engagements more powerful and memorable and to help you connect more fully with your audience.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">#1 – Make it a Dialogue, not a Monologue</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You know what I say every time I speak with you: I want it to be a two-way conversation, whether you’re coming to see me at a live event, or you’re watching a video like this one. You need to get your audience involved—make their story as important as your own. Your audience wants you to speak </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">with</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> them, not </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">at</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> them. There’s a big difference between those two things. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">To get people involved, you can ask questions, or have them participate in some way. If you have a live audience, maybe say something like, “Raise your hand if you’ve ever experienced something like this.” Lots of people will raise their hands and nod their heads, because now you’ve got them engaged in the dialogue. They’re paying attention, letting you know that they can relate to what you’re saying. This helps you as a speaker, too.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re on a Zoom or other platform, speaking to a virtual audience, invite them to participate in the chat. You could say, “Tell me where you are on a scale of 1-10.” You’ll watch the chat box fill up with answers, and now you’ve got a dialogue. Or in the case of a pre-recorded video like this one, I always ask you to share in the comments section. It gets you involved in the conversation, and I love that.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">#2 – Add Sparkle and Zest</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We are all some kind of artist—so add some sparkle that attracts your audience by catching their attention with fun clothing, beautiful staging, music, or whatever speaks to you and your listeners. I love to have a simple, yet beautiful stage. Maybe you would like to use colored lighting behind you, or have photography or an accent piece that is eye-catching. Using relevant music is always great—you know when you go see a really dynamic speaker, and there is high energy music playing when they come on stage? That’s all part of the speaking engagement, whether you realize it or not, because it gets your attention and makes the speaker more interesting before they even open their mouth.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I recently spoke at an event where all of the speakers wore elaborate headpieces. You can choose clothing or wear a costume that is connected to your message. Know your audience. If you’re speaking to a group of spirited entrepreneurs, get creative and fun. Use whatever spark you can to elevate your speaking event and make it more engaging for your audience.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">#3 – Always Play Full Out</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Always. Say it with me, “Always play full out.” If you’re going to show up, SHOW UP. Don’t hold back—be generous with your energy, and give your audience 100% every time you speak. I mean this sincerely, whether you have 1 audience member or 100, they will feel how much you’ve put into it. Share your gifts with the audience—give them everything you have in that moment. Look at every speaking opportunity not only to share your message, but to share your gifts with the world. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Whether your gift is the gift of intuition, or beautiful energy, grace and ease, or it’s the gift of high energy and motivation, or it’s the gift of wisdom. Maybe you’re an intellect and you want to share the intellect that you have. Whatever your gifts are, they are meant to be shared with the world, so share them full out – don’t hold back!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This speaks to your authenticity as a speaker, as well. Your vulnerability is important. Share that story about your struggles, and what you had to overcome to get this far. Don’t hold back out of fear; be in it to win it. No matter how many people or what the circumstances, always give everything you’ve got at every speaking opportunity, and your audience will connect with your message and with you.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Now, I hope this helps you, and just like I mentioned above, this show is not a monologue. This entire show is a dialogue. I would love to hear from you. As always, I love reading your comments, questions, and breakthroughs, and recently, I came across a comment that I can definitely relate to: <em>“I’m new in the network marketing profession, and my sponsor, who is two years ahead of me, is also new to the business, and I feel like she’s using my ideas without giving me credit.” </em></p>
<p>Thank you for that comment. I feel like so many of us can relate to this, so let’s just make it into a general question:</p>
<p><strong><em>What do you do when you feel like someone’s using your content without giving you credit?</em></strong></p>
<p>First of all, let’s be realistic. There are only so many ways to deliver the same message. In my line of work, there are only so many ways to tell people to stay motivated, be inspired, be transformed…so, of course others are going to be sharing the same words that I share. But it’s important to understand that <strong>nobody can deliver it the way you do</strong>. If 100 people tell you the same thing, you will hear it 100 different ways, and some will connect with you, while others will not.</p>
<p>Honestly, when people find my content so effective that they choose to use it for themselves, I take it as a compliment. If others want to share my words, even if they don’t give me credit, it means I have done something really well. I don’t need the credit. I don’t need the validation. Take a look at your own situation, and ask yourself, “Do I need to be given credit or validation?” You might be surprised at what comes up for you.</p>
<p>So, let’s look at some ways to handle this, because when it comes right down to it, feeling like someone is using your ideas without giving you credit may feel disrespectful. It may feel triggering. Why do you think that is happening? Is it coming from a place of fear? A place of not feeling acknowledged? You need to first understand why it’s bothering you before you can correct it. Here are some tips for moving through this…</p>
<p><strong>#1 – Talk to the other person.</strong></p>
<p>Now, I know this is going to feel uncomfortable, but some of the most difficult conversations lead to the most clarity, making the relationship stronger and healthier in the long haul. When having this conversation, it’s important to leave the other person’s dignity intact. If you make them feel like they are wrong, it will only put them on the defensive, which will not solve anything. There doesn’t need to be a “right” person and a “wrong” person – you can have two people who are on two different paths, and that is completely OK. After having the conversation, we move onto the next step…</p>
<p><strong>#2 – Decide if the partnership is something you want to continue.</strong></p>
<p>You get to decide if this partnership, friendship, or relationship is something you want to continue. There may be a few different answers to this, with the first being, “<em>Yes, I want to be in it. Let’s make it work.</em>” The second answer might be, “<em>Yes, I want to be in it, but we need to make some adjustments</em>.” What a great opportunity to evaluate what parts of the partnership aren’t working, and make changes to fix those things. And if they can’t be fixed…</p>
<p><strong>#3 Complete the relationship.</strong></p>
<p>Yes, I said, “complete” the relationship. It’s not an ending, because both of you will continue on your own paths. It’s not a break up, because neither of you are broken – you are both whole and complete. Just because this relationship is no longer serving you is no reason to feel defeated. It is, however, an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s a great time to evaluate what old wounds are being triggered in you. It’s a chance to see what kinds of expectations were not met, and decide if your expectations were realistic in the first place.</p>
<p>This is a great opportunity to heal old wounds. It’s a perfect time to figure out why you were triggered by someone using your ideas without crediting you. Why are you hurt, disappointed, or angry? Why do you feel like you’re being dismissed? I would ask you to dig in on this and really figure out where this is coming from. When have you felt like this in the past? What old experience is making you feel that this person is hurting you? It most often has nothing to do with the other person, because they don’t know what your unhealed wounds are. They aren’t trying to cause you to feel this way. You need to heal your old wounds to move forward powerfully, and with strength.</p>
<p>You need to decide what’s worth fighting for, and what can be left behind. Figure out where you can grow and make the changes inside that will keep this from ever happening again. And if it does happen, will you have the tools to respond differently next time? Decide if this partnership, friendship, or intimate relationship is worth saving. You will feel very differently when you are coming from a healed place than when you feel wounded.</p>
<p>Remember, this is not a monologue. This is a relationship. A relay between you and me, and between you and the other members of our family. I love reading your comments and questions. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hi, and welcome back! It’s so good to have you here in this space where we have courageous conversations. This is a place where we grow and expand and we see ourselves in one another. Today, we’re talking about the science of speaking – but I’m not just talking about speaking from a platform. These tools are going to help you deliver a powerful message in all areas of your life: whether you’re a teacher or an attorney; a parent or a student; a professional, an artist, a politician or a musician. No matter what you do, being able to convey a powerful message is important.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Over the last 20-25 years, I have been blown away by the response to my speaking. And that got me thinking about how I do what I do – the science of speaking. I want to share that with you today – so get your pen and paper out, because you’re going to want to write this down. I have about 17 different techniques, but I’m giving you the two most powerful ones today!</span></p>
<h3><b>Technique #1 – Show versus Tell</b></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">What this means is that you want to create an emotional response from your audience. You want them to feel what you were feeling. The way to do this is by first</span><b>, tell them what you were thinking</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Here’s an example:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was at a job interview, and I was sitting in the waiting room. My thoughts were racing. I was thinking about all of the ways I could make a difference in this company. I thought about the impact it would have on me and on my family if I were chosen for this job. My mind was going a mile a minute.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Do you see how this lets your audience into your head? You’re giving them the inside scoop, and they can put themselves in this situation, and they know exactly how that feels. Now they are IN your story. The second part of this is to </span><b>tell them how you were feeling</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">. You might say something like:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“My heart was beating so fast. Oh, my God, I think I’m actually nervous. I think I’m actually scared, and I haven’t been scared in a long time. I really wanted this job. I really wanted this acceptance. “</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Do you see how I engaged with my head and my heart? In this age of technology and social media, we often miss that connection. In the “Show versus Tell” technique, you are being vulnerable, and your audience will feel connected with those feelings, because they have felt them at some point in their own lives.</span></p>
<h3><b>Technique #2 – Audience Connection (Me, We, You)</b></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In this formula, we are cementing the connection with our audience. You want them to know that you are not speaking </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">at</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> them from a mountaintop. You are not over here, while they are over there</span><b>. You are together. </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">You are sharing this experience as a team – you are climbing that mountain together, so no one gets left behind. You want them to know that they are not alone.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first part (Me) is putting your own skin in the game. You have to give them something first. The second part (We) tells them that they are not alone. The third part (You) is where you ask if they have ever experienced that same thought, feeling, or encounter? Here’s how it might sound:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There was a time when I didn’t think I was good enough to be a speaker. I was a single mom. I was a black woman. Was I relatable to my audience? Was I going to be good enough to be a speaker, a CEO? We have a tendency to have a desire, a dream, or a goal, and then almost instantly question, ‘are we the person to make it happen?’ Has there ever been a time in your life when you wanted something, and you really, really felt like it was something that you could handle, but then instantly questioned yourself?”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So many people, in their everyday lives, feel like it’s them against the world. They don’t have a support system at home or at work, and they are trying to build a strong business, platform, community or family. Nobody understands what they are doing. You understand. You are the person who can give them the connection they so strongly crave. There’s a lot of power in this connection.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Now, remember, this is not just a monologue. I am not performing for you. This is a dialogue community. I would love to hear from you. <p>Hi, and welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show. Today, I want to talk about a question I get asked pretty regularly: <strong>How do I get people motivated to take action and change when I know how they are acting is not healthy?</strong></p>
<p>You know I love reading your comments, and one viewer named Mimi hit the nail on the head with her comment on a previous episode. She said, “Everyone learns at their own pace. Some will eventually get it and some will never get it. Accept them as they are and lead by example. “ Mimi, I love this so much. I struggle with this question about changing others, because we can’t actually change anyone. They have to want to change. All we can do is show them the way when they are ready.</p>
<p>People are watching you more than they are listening to you. If you want to impact their lives and help them to change, <strong>show</strong> them rather than <strong>tell</strong> them. Model the behavior and actions that you know would be best for you (and perhaps, for them). They have the choice to meet you where you are, or stay the same. You cannot make that decision for them. When you shift direction in your own behavior, and you stop engaging in the arguing or pettiness, others will shift to meet your behaviors – if they want that change in their own lives.</p>
<p>So, what happens when you try to force change? Usually, it results in resentment and the relationship becomes strained and difficult. Your heart is in the right place. You want your family and friends to be the best versions of themselves. But take a minute to put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if someone was telling you that you needed to change? You might feel “not good enough” or that they don’t love you the way that you are. Without meaning to be hurtful, you might be hurting people when you tell them they need to change.</p>
<p>There’s a statistic that 50% of marriages that end in divorce end that way because one person went into the marriage thinking that the other person would change. You cannot expect another person to change – you must love them and accept them exactly as they are. If you can’t do that, then you shouldn’t enter into a relationship with them in the first place. Now that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to shift and change – healthy people with a growth mindset are going to evolve. The key is to enter into a relationship with someone who has the same core values and ideals that you have, and <em>grow together</em> into better versions of yourselves.</p>
<p>Maybe there was a time when you didn’t engage with this channel, because you weren’t ready, but here you are now. You saw that there was a better way by engaging with this channel or others who inspire you. You are changing because the time is right for you. Your circumstances dictate when you decide to change… but you can’t expect everyone to change and grow at the same pace as you. They aren’t having the same life experiences that you are having, or if they are having those experiences, they aren’t responding to them in the same way that you are.</p>
<p>You have the decision to “opt-in” or opt-out” of a relationship, job, or experience. You need to make that decision. If you decide to opt-in, you must accept, love and respect the situation with your whole heart. Not everyone has to be exactly like you, but they can follow your lead if they choose to do that.</p>
<p>Your job is to be <strong>100% YOU </strong>– lead by example with your unique blend of qualities that you have developed over your lifetime. You are the culmination of everyone you have experienced in your life – your parents, grandparents, siblings, partners, friends and children. You pick up ideas and habits from the people you are exposed to, and you get to choose who those people are. Your example is a powerful motivator – you don’t need to say anything. Just be the awesome person that you are, and let others follow your lead.</p>
<p>Maybe you have watched a video here, and started to implement what you learned, even though we have never met in person. Maybe a boss or a mentor taught you a better way to do something, and you added that to your personal experience. Maybe your child softened you or your mother taught you how to handle a situation with a sibling. We are constantly learning from others, even when we don’t realize it.</p>
<p>Do you see how you have changed and evolved over your lifetime? Did you change because someone gave you an ultimatum and told you that you had to change, or did you change by watching what others were doing or seeking out information on your own? That’s how leading by example works. So, when you have someone in your life that isn’t living their best life, telling them to change isn’t going to help them to do so. Setting a good example with your actions can inspire others to change on their own.</p>

<p>Last spring, I shared a video and blog about hiring a ghostwriter to write your story. I received SO MUCH feedback from our community on this topic – thank you! I love hearing from you! So, I decided to answer your burning questions about <em>how</em> to hire someone to do your writing – if you’ve never hired a writer, you might not know where to start. That’s ok. I’ve got you…</p>
<p>My <strong>number one tip</strong> for hiring a ghostwriter is to ask for referrals! Ask people you trust if they know anyone who does this work? You can even put out a general request on social media, maybe something like, “Hey, I’m looking for a great ghostwriter to help me on a project. I’d love some suggestions or referrals. Thanks!” You’ll be surprised how many people want to help you find what you need.</p>
<p>OK, you’ve gotten some referrals from friends and colleagues – now what? How will you know if this person is going to be a good match for you? <strong>Tip number two</strong>: ask the writer for some references and samples. Professional writers will often have a website to showcase their work, or at the very least, they can send you some writing samples. Look at their style, and how they express themselves, and evaluate whether or not they are a good fit for your project. When they write for others, do they capture the voice of the person who is speaking? Writing in the speaker’s voice is one of the most important qualities to look for in a ghostwriter! When they write for you, you want your readers to hear YOUR voice when they read it.</p>
<p>My <strong>third tip </strong>is to ask the writer to do a test piece for you. Give them a blog or an email to write and see how it comes through. Does it sound like your voice? Will it resonate with your audience? If you are very casual when you speak, but the writing is very formal, your audience won’t be drawn in – they are reading your blog or email because they are connected to <strong>you</strong> and your energy. Make sure your writer can BE YOU in their writing. You may have to pay for this test writing, and that’s OK…it’s worth a small investment to make sure you have the right person for the job.</p>
<p><strong><em>Feedback and communication</em></strong> are so important – make time to connect with your writer and let them know what you need, especially if you are working on a big project like a book. Being able to share ideas and concepts openly and often will allow the ghostwriter to get your story written the way you want it. If you like something they wrote, share that. Tell them, “I really like how you did this chapter – let’s do more of that!” In the same respect, share any feedback about things that you don’t like. Maybe there’s a section that doesn’t sound like you, or doesn’t accurately tell your story. The sooner you communicate with your writer, the easier it will be to get things back on track.</p>
<p>Let the writer handle all of the grammar, spelling and writing structures. This is why you hired them! Your book will go to an editor after it’s written, and that person will make any adjustments that are needed. Writing a book takes a village! Any book you have ever read has been through the writer, proofreader, editor, and most likely, beta readers, who are people who read the book and offer feedback to you before you send it to the editor. Even if you are the writer, you still will have a team of people who help you bring that book to the public.</p>
<p>Remember, it doesn’t matter who puts the words on the paper – this is still your book. The thoughts, stories and ideas are yours, and hiring a ghostwriter isn’t cheating! It’s being resourceful and utilizing people who love to write and are great at it. I like to use my time doing the things that I am good at, and I hire people to do the things that aren’t my areas of expertise. It’s a win-win, because my writers get to do what they love, while I do what I love!</p>
