The operation was conducted by the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Srinagar.

The terrorists were identified as Suleiman alias Faizal, Afghan, and Jibran. Suleiman was the mastermind of the attack and an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group. Afghan and Jibran were also top terrorists with A-grade designations. Amit Shah stated that these terrorists were responsible for the killing of 26 civilians in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam.

Their identities were confirmed through multiple means including forensic tests on bullet shells recovered from the attack site, cross-matching weapons seized from the eliminated terrorists with those used in the Pahalgam attack, and identification by detained associates who had supplied them food and shelter. Additionally, Pakistani voter identity cards and other items like Pakistan-made chocolates found with the terrorists confirmed their origin.

Operation Mahadev started immediately after the Pahalgam attack with efforts focused on preventing the perpetrators from escaping to Pakistan. Intelligence inputs gathered over two months, along with persistent patrolling by security forces at high altitudes, led to the successful detection and elimination of the terrorists on July 28 near the forested Lidwas area on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Amit Shah praised the coordination and dedication of the Indian security forces in carrying out the operation and bringing to justice those who had brutally murdered innocent civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.

Many online commentators have accused the powerful cricket board of caring more about earnings, cricketing spectacle and entertainment than honouring the memory of those who lost their lives in Pahalgam.

Widespread backlash after Asia Cup announcement

The announcement of the India–Pakistan Asia Cup fixture — scheduled for September 14 in the UAE — has triggered a backlash among Indian fans. Social media platforms have been flooded with reactions, many of them sharply criticising the BCCI for what users describe as an insensitive decision. Prominent hashtags such as #BoycottAsiaCup began trending, with scores of users demanding the BCCI reconsider its participation in the match.

Critics accuse the BCCI of prioritising commercial and entertainment interests above national sentiment, with some users openly asking if the board values profits and high-profile matches more than the lives lost in Pahalgam. This isn’t just cricket. It’s about standing up for our people, wrote one user, echoing a sentiment felt across multiple platforms.

Controversy over BCCI’s response to the Pahalgam tragedy

The outrage intensified as many fans noted that the initial response from the BCCI and high-profile cricket events such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) appeared muted. Some netizens accused the board of showing “no tribute” and questioned why the IPL continued without recognising the victims of the terror attack, while others expressed disappointment that commercial interests seemed to dominate over a show of solidarity or grief.

However, official statements from the BCCI have attempted to address the tragedy. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia issued a strong condemnation of the “ghastly and cowardly act” in Pahalgam, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, while the board also declared a moment of silence, black armbands for players and umpires, and the suspension of cheerleaders and fireworks during relevant IPL fixtures in tribute to the victims.

Calls to boycott Asia Cup amid ongoing tensions

The angry reaction is heightened by the context of heightened bilateral tensions following the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians were killed. With the wounds of the terror incident still fresh, a large section of supporters argue that sporting ties with Pakistan should remain suspended, and some have demanded the board cancel the fixture altogether saying otherwise it amounts to betraying Indian sentiment.

Despite these calls, the BCCI is yet to issue a public statement addressing the widespread outrage or clarify its stance regarding future fixtures with Pakistan, beyond standard expressions of grief.

Board’s financial priorities under scrutiny

The controversy is not new for the BCCI, which is often the subject of allegations that it prioritises financial gain. Previously, regulatory authorities and parliamentary panels have pointed out that much of the BCCI’s revenue comes not from promoting or developing cricket, but from running commercial tournaments such as the IPL. Only a small proportion of income is reportedly spent on sports promotion, while the rest is retained or distributed among state associations and board members. Accusations of commercialisation and monopolistic practices have surfaced repeatedly, fuelling further resentment among the Indian public whenever a national crisis occurs.

As the Asia Cup draws nearer and the memory of the Pahalgam attack remains vivid, public pressure continues to mount on the BCCI to reconsider its approach and respond more decisively to national sentiment.

Major boost to Saregama’s regional catalogue

The acquisition covers over 6,500 tracks across Haryanvi, Punjabi, Ghazals, Devotional, and Indie Pop genres. This strategic move also brings into Saregama’s fold the highly popular YouTube channels NAV Haryanvi and Nupur Audio, which together have more than 24 million subscribers. The newly acquired library includes multiple viral hits such as ‘Coco Cola’ (900 million views), ‘Parvati Boli Shakar Se’ (500 million views), and ‘Loot Liya’ (400 million views).

Market reaction and company strategy

Following the announcement, Saregama’s stock price rallied as much as 6.75% to reach ₹520 apiece and settled at a gain of 5.45% by mid-morning, vastly outperforming the broader market trend. This response comes as investors recognised the company’s push to cement its position as India’s leading entertainment IP company, particularly in regional segments where it had previously lacked dominance.

Industry leaders noted that the NAV Records catalogue is a major force in Haryanvi and Punjabi music, with its digital assets commanding significant reach and engagement. Saregama’s management announced plans to jointly develop new content with NAV Records, further expanding its influence in the regional music space.

Aggressive expansion

The NAV Records acquisition is part of Saregama’s broader strategy of expanding its music IP. In the current financial year, the company has acquired 22 music labels across seven languages, adding more than 2,800 songs to its portfolio. Company officials said that this most recent deal fills a crucial gap, making Saregama the dominant player across all Indian regional music genres.

Analyst outlook

Analysts tracking the stock maintain a positive view, with the majority issuing ‘buy’ recommendations and projecting further upside. Experts attribute this sentiment to both Saregama’s successful digital expansion and the scale of the NAV Records content library, which will deepen the company’s competitive moat in the online music and video streaming market.

In 2025, AI is not only automating traditional SEO tasks but also redefining how digital content is created, discovered, and ranked across the web.

Shifting from keywords to user intent

The days of relying solely on keyword density and basic on-page tactics are fading. Modern AI-powered algorithms, developed by major search engines, have advanced to the point where they analyse user behaviour, intent, and engagement in real time. AI models interpret language, understand the nuances of user queries, and prioritise content that genuinely addresses searcher needs over content that simply targets keywords.

Automation and data driven insights

AI-driven tools now manage crucial SEO activities, including keyword research, content optimisation, technical site audits, and even competitor analysis. Machine learning algorithms examine vast datasets to identify trends, gaps, and new opportunities with greater speed and accuracy than ever before. Automation is freeing up SEO professionals to concentrate on strategic planning and creative pursuits, as repetitive processes are increasingly handled by intelligent systems.

Content creation and personalisation at scale

One of the most significant shifts is AI’s role in content creation. Large language models are generating, rewriting, and enriching articles at scale, enabling businesses to publish thousands of tailored pieces each month while reducing manual effort. AI is also making content highly personal. By analysing user data, search intent, and engagement signals, AI adapts content delivery to keep users engaged and ensure relevance, which are crucial factors for search rankings.

Technical and semantic optimisation

SEO in the age of AI now encompasses advanced technical optimisations. AI ensures meta tags and schema markup are correctly implemented, monitors website performance, and flags technical issues before they hinder rankings. Moreover, AI enables semantic analysis, which means search engines better understand the meaning and context of each page. This leads to improved performance for content that is comprehensive and addresses topics deeply, rather than those that simply stuff relevant keywords.

Evolving search experiences

AI is fuelling the rise of new search behaviours. Voice and visual search are gaining traction, requiring SEO strategies to adapt and optimise for conversational queries and image based searches. AI-powered engines are delivering more hyper-personalised results, and generative AI is beginning to answer questions directly in search, reducing click-throughs to traditional web pages.

Building authority and trust

As search platforms integrate AI, they are increasingly weighting signals such as expertise, authoritativeness, and trust (E-A-T) in their evaluation of content. Strong brands must now demonstrate their authority across multiple platforms, ranging from schema enriched web pages to expert quotes in media publications and robust social footprints. AI tracks brand mentions, citations, and the quality of inbound links to assess credibility and influence.

What’s next for SEO in the AI age

Looking ahead, search is likely to fragment further, spanning not only traditional engines but also generative platforms, social discovery, and voice assistants. Success will hinge on unified content strategies that prioritise quality, trust, and user engagement. Businesses will need to future-proof their presence by embracing AI tools, optimising for new search interfaces, and consistently delivering value to users through authentic, authoritative, and relevant content.

Launched in July 2025, the album brings together more than 200 artistes from over 40 countries, blending compositions inspired by Gandhi’s teachings with melodies cherished by the leader himself.

Genesis of the collaboration

The collaboration was born from a deep mutual respect for Gandhiji’s ideals between Kej and Satyarthi. Their partnership began during a successful four-city concert tour in India in 2024, which raised funds for the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion—a nonprofit initiative advocating compassion as a foundation for justice, equality, and sustainability. Through these events and intimate discussions, Kej and Satyarthi discovered their shared commitment to Gandhian principles, inspiring them to embark on an album project that would transcend musical boundaries and geographical borders.

A global musical project

“Gandhi – Mantras of Compassion” is a new-age album featuring Kej, Satyarthi, Grammy and Brit Award-nominated cellist Tina Guo, Grammy winner Masa Takumi, and a diverse ensemble of musicians from across the globe. The album’s production involved 230 artistes, whose collective voices and talents celebrate Gandhi’s timeless messages of non-violence, peace, tolerance, and environmental consciousness. Carefully selected tracks include music beloved by Gandhi, along with original compositions reflecting his values and vision for humanity.

Enduring relevance and impact

The project’s core message is that Gandhi’s teachings remain “universal and timeless,” as Satyarthi emphasised. “Gandhi will continue to guide us beyond geography, and through the ages,” he reflected. Both Kej and Satyarthi see the album as a humble offering to keep Gandhi’s flame alive for future generations. They stress that music, like Gandhi’s message, has the ability to foster empathy and unity, providing hope in a world in search of healing and harmony.

Notably, Ricky Kej’s connection to Gandhiji is also personal. His grandfather, Jankidas Mehra, was given the Indian national flag by Gandhi before hoisting it on foreign soil in 1946—a historic moment commemorated at the Gandhi National Museum in New Delhi.

The launch of “Gandhi – Mantras of Compassion” stands as a remarkable example of how art can serve social causes and fortify the global pursuit of peace and compassion, making a resonant contribution to the ongoing remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi.

The decision to go ahead with the match has triggered widespread debate across the nation.

Multilateral commitments and governing body decisions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is moving forward with the Asia Cup fixture against Pakistan following an agreement reached at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting. With the ACC’s official schedule placing India and Pakistan in the same group, the BCCI confirmed that the match will take place as planned, with no option for unilateral withdrawal at this stage. This decision is consistent with India’s historical approach of maintaining sporting ties with Pakistan at global or multilateral events, despite refusing to engage bilaterally for over a decade.

Olympic ambitions and the Olympic Charter

A key factor influencing India’s consent to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup is its long-term ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games. According to Rule 44 of the Olympic Charter, host nations must not discriminate against any country in international sporting competitions on political, religious, or racial grounds. India’s willingness to play Pakistan in ACC and ICC events signals the nation’s compliance with global sporting norms, a move that could strengthen its Olympic bid.

Government and sports bodies’ stance

The Indian government, while vocally condemning recent terror attacks, has clarified that it does not object to Indian teams facing Pakistan in multilateral events held outside India. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently reiterated that the government’s policy allows such engagements as long as they are in accordance with the regulations of international governing bodies. This position is evidenced by India’s recent approval of the Pakistan hockey team’s participation in the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup Hockey tournament, as well as continued scheduling of India-Pakistan contests in women’s cricket World Cups.

Public, political and sporting backlash

Despite official approvals, the decision has faced intense criticism from citizens, politicians, and sporting personalities. Calls for a boycott have grown louder on social media and within Parliament, with several MPs and former players arguing it would be inappropriate to play Pakistan so soon after the Pahalgam terror attack. Arguments centre on the perception that playing against Pakistan diminishes national sentiment and undermines the sacrifices of those affected by cross-border violence.

Contrasts in approach to bilateral and multilateral ties

Cricketing icons such as Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin have weighed in, emphasising the difference between bilateral series—which remain suspended—and multilateral tournaments, where international obligations limit India’s flexibility. Some critics argue that if India refuses bilateral games, it should avoid multilateral encounters as well. However, others, like Ganguly, stress that sport must go on, even as the nation remains uncompromising on issues of terrorism and national security.

A complex balancing act ahead

The Asia Cup, with India and Pakistan scheduled to meet on 14 September in the United Arab Emirates, stands as a test of India’s ability to balance international sporting commitments, strategic diplomatic interests, and deep public emotions. The upcoming contest will not only be watched for the stakes on the field but also for the manner in which the Indian cricket board, government, and society navigate this sensitive and high-profile rivalry.

New trade rules outlined

The deal, announced on Sunday and set to take effect from 1 August, establishes a baseline 15% tariff on most EU goods entering the US. This rate is a significant reduction from the 30% tariffs that US President Donald Trump had threatened to impose, but is still an increase compared to rates prior to his return to office. Key sectors affected include vehicles, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductors, which now face the new 15% levy, though some items such as aircraft and certain chemicals will be exempt for the time being.

The agreement follows months of tense negotiations and last-minute talks as the two economies—together accounting for nearly a third of global trade—sought to de-escalate escalating tariffs that threatened to disrupt industries on both sides of the Atlantic.

Energy and investment commitments

In exchange for the capped tariffs, the EU committed to purchasing $750 billion worth of American energy products annually through to 2027, as well as increasing investments within the United States by a further $600 billion. European officials describe this as an effort to enhance stability and predictability for business, particularly after a year marked by economic uncertainty and intensifying trade rhetoric.

Mixed reactions from both sides

French Prime Minister François Bayrou publicly condemned the arrangement, calling it “a dark day” for Europe, while other EU leaders, such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said the agreement was necessary to avoid more damaging economic fallout. Most EU countries described the agreement as an imperfect but essential compromise.

President Trump hailed the deal as the biggest in history, claiming it would end what he characterised as unfair treatment of US exporters and strengthen ties with Europe.

Continued uncertainty for industries

Despite initial relief in financial markets, European businesses remain cautious. Leaders in the automotive and chemical industries noted that, while the 15% levy is less severe than what was feared, it still marks a sharp increase from the previous average tariff rate of 2.5%. Concerns also remain for sectors like steel and pharmaceuticals, where specific arrangements are yet to be clarified. For steel and aluminium, existing US tariffs of 50% will stay in place for now—with both parties agreeing to future negotiations on a quota system to regulate trade volumes.

Further details and the final product lists are expected to be released in a joint EU-US statement by 1 August. Officials on both continents have signalled that additional technical talks will take place in the coming weeks to resolve remaining issues.

Speaking at high-profile events and in recent interviews, Altman stressed that entire categories of jobs are at risk as AI systems become capable of performing tasks faster and more efficiently than humans.

Sectors facing disruption

Altman identified several areas where jobs are likely to be replaced in the near term. Customer service and call centre positions are considered especially vulnerable, as AI chatbots and voice agents are increasingly handling queries without the need for human support. Altman described the transformation of the customer service industry as almost complete, with AI now performing many of the key functions, eliminating traditional phone trees and reducing the need for human operators.

Data entry, transcription, and recordkeeping tasks are also expected to be among the first to go. AI can already carry out these activities more quickly and with fewer errors, resulting in a diminished demand for manual labour in these fields. Routine programming jobs and basic coding tasks are at similar risk, as Altman pointed out that simple scripts and debugging can often be accomplished by AI-assisted platforms.

The trend is not limited to technical or clerical jobs. Certain creative roles, such as content creation that focuses on high volume and repetitive output, like writing product descriptions or basic marketing copy, may see widespread job losses. AI’s growing ability to generate convincingly human-like text at scale means businesses can reduce reliance on human copywriters for such mundane tasks.

Additionally, jobs in legal and financial analysis that involve reviewing and summarising documents could see significant disruption. AI is now able to process large volumes of text within moments, undermining the need for large teams of junior professionals in these sectors.

A changing landscape for workers

While Altman acknowledged that the scale of job displacement could be significant, he emphasised that this technological shift could ultimately result in better, higher-quality jobs in the future. He noted that, as with previous technological revolutions, society must adapt through education and reskilling to prepare workers for new opportunities that AI will create.

Altman has advocated for governments and educational institutions to update their frameworks to help the workforce transition. He also referenced historical examples, such as how the advent of the calculator changed how mathematics was taught, suggesting similar reforms will be needed for the age of AI.

Healthcare and the future of work

Altman highlighted AI’s growing role in medicine, noting that ChatGPT’s diagnostic capabilities sometimes exceed those of human doctors. He nevertheless insisted that human oversight remains crucial, expressing personal reluctance to trust AI entirely in healthcare decisions.

Looking ahead, Altman predicted that traditional job structures may fade significantly by 2030. He expects people will continue to find meaning and value in new types of work even if those jobs appear unconventional today. He reminded audiences that throughout history new forms of employment have always emerged in response to technological progress.

The landmark Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), formalised on 24 July 2025, marks India’s first major free trade pact with a developed Western economy since its EFTA deal and is being closely watched for the cues it provides to other negotiating partners, particularly the US.

Shaping trade policy on Indian terms

The pact delivers headline economic wins for India. Ninety-nine percent of its exports to the UK, spanning high-growth sectors such as textiles, marine products, gems, agri-exports and engineering, will now enter the British market duty-free. Agriculture, processed foods and key manufactured items gain fresh market access. In return, India agreed to gradually reduce tariffs for UK goods, notably in whisky, automobiles, cosmetics and select machinery, with a considered phase-in designed to give domestic producers time to adjust.

India’s approach in the deal has signalled a willingness to modernise its trade regime without undermining sovereignty or industry fundamentals. Crucially, sensitive sectors such as dairy and strategic digital domains remain protected. This demonstrates to Washington that while India will negotiate bold agreements, these must respect India’s priorities for supply chain resilience, tech autonomy and domestic job creation.

Geopolitical and strategic undertone

Officials and analysts note that India’s agreement with the UK marks a turning point in its trade approach with the West. It is confident, incremental and rooted in mutual benefit. Strategists say the timing is purposeful. The deal allows New Delhi to demonstrate its responsiveness to global partnerships while also serving as leverage in ongoing negotiations with both the United States and the European Union.

The US push for broader market access in Indian agriculture and digital services has met with stern resistance from New Delhi. By closing the deal with the UK on a patient, sectoral basis, with many tariff cuts spread over years and key supply chains protected, India is signalling to the US that aggressive, rushed tactics will not force its hand. Instead, India expects respect, parity and room for sectoral safeguards whether with Washington or other partners.

Setting a template for future deals

Observers emphasise that the India-UK pact could serve as a template for future Indian trade negotiations, including the much-anticipated US agreement. It demonstrates India’s evolving readiness to open up to foreign goods and investment but at a pace that preserves its economic interests and avoids abrupt disruption, especially in labour-intensive and tech-forward sectors.

Indian policymakers have framed the new trade agreement as not just an economic win but a statement of New Delhi’s global position. Gone is the tentative, aid-receiving India of past decades. The country now brings a confident, strategic stance to the table and expects others, including the United States, to adapt accordingly.

The talks come at a critical juncture, with trade officials from both countries under pressure to secure outcomes ahead of an August deadline for new tariffs and amidst mounting expectations from major export and industrial sectors.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, led by chief negotiator Rajesh Agrawal, will be meeting their American counterparts to finalise the contours of what sources describe as both a potential interim “mini deal” and preparations for a more comprehensive free trade agreement later this year.

Key sticking points in the discussions continue to revolve around the US demand for greater market access in agriculture, dairy and automobile sectors, as well as calls for a reduction in tariffs on key American exports. India, meanwhile, seeks relief from planned reciprocal US tariffs on its exports, along with additional concessions for its labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery, leather goods and chemicals.

Negotiators have signalled that while both sides are eager to avoid the reimposition of steep tariffs—particularly the 26 percent additional US duties which are set to take effect if no deal is reached—substantial differences remain over sensitive items, especially agricultural produce and dairy products. Protection of Indian farmers and the livelihoods of millions in the rural economy has emerged as a central concern, with New Delhi resisting pressure to open markets to American dairy and certain agricultural products. Cultural and religious sensitivities have also surfaced, with India refusing to allow imports of dairy products derived from cattle fed on non-vegetarian diets.

A phased approach is being pursued, with expectations that talks this week will enable both sides to announce an interim agreement covering less contentious sectors, including tariff relief for specific US industrial goods, and potentially higher Indian imports of American oil and defence equipment. A broader free trade agreement encompassing services, digital trade and expanded market access is scheduled to be negotiated in subsequent rounds, with the aim of doubling bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.

Officials have described the current discussions as positive and constructive, with both countries committed to seeking mutually beneficial outcomes. However, the outcome remains uncertain, with India maintaining that no deal is preferable to a bad one that could endanger domestic industries and jobs.

The United States remains India’s largest trading partner, accounting for 18 percent of India’s overall exports and over $190 billion in annual bilateral trade. The next week’s outcome could have significant implications for exporters and consumers in both countries, as well as for the global trading environment.
