44.

Travel and leisure in the Caribbean is one place that many people have never heard about and if they happen to have heard about them, they have never had the chance to visit. There are very calm Caribbean beaches with plenty of paradise sands and beautiful vacation hotspots. The pleasure starts right from the secluded and quiet lagoons to the boldface names. If you discover the best travel and leisure spot in the Caribbean, then you are assured of the best beach getaway. There are a variety of different Caribbean islands that you can choose from. This will depend on the amount of money that you have, the place you want to go, whether in your country or abroad, and off course very other many reasons. Some very common examples are as follows below. The Cabarete beachThis Caribbean beach is found in the Dominican Republic. There are abundant water sports that make this back beach hideaway a wonder of the world. If you happen to be a windsurf fanatic or rather, you love kite surfing, then this is the place to be. Cabarete has proved to be an experience of a lifetime that is worth giving a second try.The Palm Beach in ArubaOnce you place your foot in this amazing Caribbean, the first thing you will notice is the sliver of white Alabaster sand which is sprinkled with plenty of Palapa huts and palm trees. It is located in Aruba specifically in the heart of the great luxury hotels and resorts. At Palm Beach, you are assured of great fun and that is the reason most people flock this place. It is actually one of the best places to go out for swimming, basking, and sailing and off course relaxing all day long. The great Jamaican Treasure BeachJamaica is popular for its ever busy and flocked Seven Mile Beach, but there is another hidden treasure that not many people know about. The Treasure Beach is relatively smaller and quiet. It is quite an authentic beach getaway and more so, it is located on the buttery shores of Jamaica. It is found on the Southwestern part of Jamaica’s coast. It is characterized by a collection of beaches, cloves and wonderful swimming spots. The uniqueness of this beach is that it draws visitors and locals together, thanks to the community-based tourism initiative. The Grand Anse, GrenadaThis is the leader when it comes to travel and leisure hotspots in the Caribbean. Found in Grenada, Carracou, the unspoiled Grand Anse is considered a site which is a must-see. It is a gorgeous place which is clean, safe and free from huge crowds. Other sites that offer great travel and leisure ideas in the Caribbean are; The Pink Sands Beach in Bahamas, Cayo Espanto in Belize, Beachfront Estates on the Grace Bay. Others are Turks and Caicos which is a perfect place for honeymoon.

 64.

What is Under-management?Have you ever heard the term “under-management” before? It brings up all kinds of questions and thoughts about management in today’s brave new economy.Author Bruce Tulgan argues in his book It’s OK to be the Boss, that there is an under-management epidemic and that most managers don’t perform even the basic tasks of managing on a day to day basis. He says that weak, hands-off management is the norm as we try not to micro-manage. But is strong, highly engaged management the same as micro-managing?Tulgan argues that it isn’t and I’m inclined to agree with him. In a desire to empower employees, managers in the 21st Century seem to have adopted a hands off approach to leading and managing people. Yet this approach has the complete opposite effect as it quickly dis-empowers and dis-engages employees by creating a false empowerment. No matter what they may say, employees want to know what’s going on and to know that someone has a firm grasp of the reins.Let me be clear though, there is a difference between being in charge and being a tyrant. Between being strong and being abusive or overly aggressive. The fact is, someone has to be in charge and employees are not free to do as they please. But they should be free to create and make decisions within the defined guidelines and expectations of the goals and objectives of the organization. Without an active and sometimes firm boss to lead the way, too much discretion can be downright cruel. So what has caused this false-empowerment and led to our current crisis of under-management? Tulgan proposes seven “Management Myths” that prevent managers from being strong and engaged.1. The Myth of Empowerment: “The way to empower people is to leave them alone and let them manage themselves.” The reality is that almost everyone performs a lot better with active guidance, direction, feedback, and support from a more experienced person. If you really want to empower someone, help them with defined goals, clear guidelines, and concrete deadlines. Within very clearly defined parameters, a direct report has real power instead of something vague and squishy.2. The Myth of Fairness: “The way to be fair is to treat everyone the same.” I’ve been trying to convince people of this one for years. Being truly fair is to do more for some people and less for others, based on what they need, what they deserve – based on their performance.3. The Myth of the False Nice Guy: “The only way to be strong is to act like a jerk, but I want to be a “nice guy.” Real “nice guy” managers do whatever it takes to help their employees succeed so they can deliver great products, services, and earn rewards for themselves. You don’t have to be a jerk to do this but you do have to stand up and tell people NO. A little discipline and structure helps keep employees accountable and on-track.4. The Myth of the Difficult Conversation: “Being hands-off is the way to avoid confrontations with employees.” The reality of course is the complete opposite. Being a weak manager means you’ll inevitably have even more of these confrontations. Strong managers put up with fewer confrontations and when they do happen they tend to be far less painful.5. The Myth of Red Tape: “Managers are prevented from being strong because there are so many factors beyond their control – red tape, corporate culture, senior management, limited resources.” In reality, focusing on the many factors that are within your control is the way to become stronger. One of Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People talked about staying within your sphere of influence and you reduce stress while gaining power. When we focus on what we can do it usually turns out to be a lot, we may not like doing it which leads to this particular excuse.6. The Myth of the Natural Leader: “I am not “good at” managing.” This is a particularly terrible excuse because the best managers are people who learn proven techniques and behaviors that allow them to be effective. Now some people may have been born with some natural intuition but many of the best leaders throughout history were just regular folks who learn these techniques, practiced them religiously until they became skills and continued practicing until they became habit.7. The Myth of Time: “There isn’t enough time to manage people.” If you’re using this as an excuse, turn it around. Since your time is so limited, you definitely don’t have time to deal with all that can go wrong when you don’t spend enough time up-front managing your people. Strong, thoughtful leadership will reduce the problems you face and probably free up some well-deserved time in your day.”It’s OK to be the Boss” is an excellent book and has now been transformed into a powerful training program. It focuses on helping readers or participants to learn eight back to basics techniques to become highly engaged managers that allow employees to succeed and become highly productive.Managers, especially those on the front-lines, will have the most powerful effect on the overall engagement of your workforce. And how engaged your workforce is will have a tremendous impact on the profitability of your organization. When you think about these two important factors, it truly is OK to be the Boss.
