I have heard of a cancer survivor who 30 years after her treatment developed lymphedema after reaching up to pull down a garage door. It may be uncommon, but it can happen.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Myth 3: Lymphedema will make one&#39;s arm huge. One-size-fits-all is not true for lymphedema. Like cancer, lymphedema has various stages. Stage I is mild, Stage II moderate and Stage III severe. I&#39;ve seen pictures of a lymphedemous leg grossly misshapen, and I&#39;ve seen cases where I could hardly tell the person had lymphedema.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Myth 4: The sentinel node biopsy that only removes a few lymph nodes stops lymphedema from happening. The procedure, while reducing the incidence of lymphedema, has not eliminated it. Genetic predisposition to any disruption of lymphatic flow may tip the scales.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Myth 5: A person at risk for lymphedema or who has it should not carry heavy objects. This has recently been disproven. In fact, gradual lifting of weights with a compression garment helps with lymphatic flow.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Myth 6: If your limb starts to swell you can wait a while to get therapy. If you notice any swelling in a limb after removal of lymph nodes, even after a sentinel node biopsy, see a surgeon right away. The earlier you catch it, the better. If the doctor does not listen, go to another M.D. who will. And if you are diagnosed, insist that you get a prescription for lymphedema therapy.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;To reduce the risk of developing lymphedema, many therapists advise patients to have their arm fitted for a compression sleeve to be donned during plane rides longer than four hours. But newer findings indicate that cabin pressure at high altitudes may not make a difference in swelling. In addition, survivors may wish to wear the sleeve when lifting heavy objects with that arm. One should consult the National Lymphedema Network or Step-Up, Speak Out to get current, reliable doctor-approved advice on risk-reduction practices.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;While certain triggers have been found anecdotally to bring on lymphedema (such as long plane rides or repeated puncture wounds), many experts in lymphology now surmise that those who develop lymphedema do so because of a genetic predisposition. Also, some people are born with more lymph nodes than others, providing a more protective effect.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Notwithstanding myriad myths and misconceptions about lymphedema, my main advice is never to despair. You can lead a normal life after lymphedema. A multi ply thread is usually weaker than a single ply, not because the twisting makes them weaker, but because the fiber length is usually shorter than a high quality single ply thread. Staple fiber length refers to the length of the individual cotton fibers that make up a single thread. Longer fibers come from better cotton and make stronger, smoother fabrics.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Shopping for Quality Bed Sheets&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Now that you are armed with some basic technical knowledge, how will that help you select quality bed sheets? First you can know that single ply sheets are a pretty safe bet for quality. With single ply fabrics, higher thread count usually does indicate a more luxurious bed sheet fabric. Other factors that would affect fabric quality include the grade of the cotton used and the weaving process.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;With current manufacturing limitations, single ply fabrics only go up to 500-600 threads per square inch. After that, all fabrics are multi ply. Fabrics over 1000tc are most likely triple ply or more. These super high thread count fabrics are not necessarily lower quality, in fact most of them feel great. Some critics say that because multi ply sheets are usually made of shorter fiber cotton, they will pill more easily and therefore be less durable. If this is true, it is offset by the fact that the fabric is thicker (heavier) than lower thread count fabrics, and more durable for that reason&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So with sheet sets over 600tc, it&#39;s a little more complex to assess quality. Retailers and wholesalers don&#39;t have access to the fiber length of a sheet set. That information can only be obtained at the factory where the yarn is spun. Once the yarn is spun, there is no way to properly assess fiber length, even with lab tests.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What Should You Pay For High Thread Count Bed Sheets&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Fabrics with thread count over 600 are still fairly new on the market, so they are a bit of a curiosity. Many people extrapolate in a linear fashion when imagining how these sheets will feel. They think, &quot;If 500tc sheets are a really high thread count, and they feel this good. 1500tc sheets must feel 3 times better!&quot; In fact most people cannot tell the difference between 500tc sheets and 1500tc. The fabrics can feel very similar. Usually there is a bigger difference when you compare sheets from one company and another, regardless of thread count, than different thread count sheets from the same company. However, if you had bought a trip cancellation travel insurance plan some time in the days or weeks or months prior to being hit by a cement truck, and had insured your $5,000 per person trip cost, your trip cancellation travel insurance plan will reimburse you 100% of the money you lost on the trip, or in this case the full $10,000.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;However, let&#39;s say you only insured $3500 each of your $5,000 per person trip cost.
