27.

For the creators behind women’s motorcycle apparel brand Atwyld, starting a clothing line means going the mile. Co-founder Anya Violet laughs when she thinks about the 2, 000-some miles of “test adventures” she rode on her bike to test the garments, from the brand’s leather jacket to leather moto jeans. After a pre-sale which started in July, Atwyld began delivering its technical apparel line this month and aims to bring comfort, style and safety to its customers. Created by Violet, Corinne Lan Franco and Jaime Dempsey, the brand’s name represents “the single moment that exists between fear and thrill.” The CONVOY ARMORED SHIRT provides another level of ride protection, offering confidence while on the bike, $175, atwyld.com (Photo: Jeff Stockwell) “[It’s] something that all motorcyclists really have felt, ” Violet says. “That kind of wild feeling where you’re really pushing yourself, and you’re kind of on the edge of your comfort zone.” For Atwyld’s first collection, “Into the Void, ” the inspiration was twofold. One was to provide gear specifically for women. Another was to appeal to the new female rider, a group Violet describes as diverse, riding not just one type of bike style. SHRED MOTO JEANS provide comfort and protection during long rides and also feature removable armor, $389, atwyld.com (Photo: Jeff Stockwell) “There are brands that target female motorcyclists, but what we feel like they’re not doing is targeting that versatility to be able to look good, feel good and perform on and off the bike, ” Violet says. The brand houses the technical apparel line and a lifestyle clothing line – both are sewn and manufactured in downtown Los Angeles – with pieces that are not your grandfather’s bulky leather riding suit. While a racing suit works for the ride, it doesn’t work for drinks with friends; on the other hand, wearing non-protective clothing can be a safety issue. The ALLTIME MOTO JACKET transitions from technical bike gear to fashion statement piece effortlessly, $650, atwyld.com (Photo: Jeff Stockwell) Violet says it was important to make sure Atwyld’s clothing was not only safe but clean, comfortable and durable, as well as have proper fit. When focusing on pants, Violet says stretch was a first priority for the denim. Many women ride their bikes in skinny jeans, so the Atwyld pants – which range from a Kevlar-lined denim pant, leather legging, and leather and denim Kevlar-lined pant with removable armor – replicate a similar leg.

I haven’t seen it relisted, nor have I seen it show up anywhere else, so I guess the sale was legitimate. No doubt the Peters label is super rare. In fact, I can’t remember one popping up on eBay anytime in the last several years. It was first offered up on eBay as a Buy It Now or Best Offer (BINOBO) for $8, 500 and the offer price that was finally taken was near the 8 stacks price of $7, 700… ! That Art Deco Talon zipper is gorgeous and it looks like all the o-pull rings even exist! Just missing the leather laces for the sides. If anyone knows where this jacket went, please let me know. I’d like some better photos of it. ..and maybe to try it on. Here are the details: Sale price: $7700 offer. 45.

Many new riders contact us looking for advice about what to buy for their first motorcycle jacket. There are many options in leather and textiles. The motorcycle jacket needs to provide both protection and comfort, and it should look good. After all, why do we take up riding motorcycles in the first place? Don't forget to also protect your legs and butt. In a low-side fall, your knees, hips and butt will be the first part of your body to grind on the pavement. You're going to need protective pants, too. The primary function of your motorcycle gear is protection in a crash. Make sure that it is tough and has padding in vulnerable areas like the shoulders, elbows and knees. Without a doubt, leather will offer the best protection in a crash. Leather has the best abrasion resistance and is the least likely to tear when it hits the pavement. This is why racetracks require leather suits for recreational track-day events as well as for racing. Leather is also very durable and might last longer than you do so, you should pick out something that you won't get tired of after a couple of years. One of my first leather motorcycle jackets, which I bought nearly 25 years ago, got a bit snug around the middle but, was otherwise in excellent condition. This happens to a lot of guys my age. I handed it down to my 18 year old son and his friends admire it for the "classic" that it is! I'm glad now that I didn't jump on the red Michael Jackson "Thriller" jacket that was also available at the time. As for weather protection, leather is great for most of the spring, summer, and fall, which is when people ride the most. While it's true that leather can get a bit warm in the summer, the textiles can get warm, too. If you live in an area with very hot summers, look for something with lots of zippered vents. Leather can be treated with a waterproof leather dressing but, even if treated, it will withstand rain for only a short time. Hopefully, it will hold out the rain just long enough for you to get home from work. If leather is your preference, you can always carry a lightweight rain-suit in your tank-bag. Textiles are usually lighter in weight and easier to wear. Many textile jackets are less expensive than leather. Textiles are usually made of strong synthetics such as nylon, polyester, Cordura, and Ballistics cloth. Textiles dry much faster than leather and many are waterproof. Gore-Tex is widely known as one of the very best waterproof and breathable materials. There are also other waterproof options such as Drystar, Rainguard, Rock Tex, D-Dry, Hypertex, H2Out, Hydratex, HYDRAGuard. Keep in mind that all waterproof materials are a compromise. The more waterproof any fabric is, the less breathable, and the more breathable it is, the less waterproof. Select something according to the climate you live in and will ride in. Most dedicated year-round riders will own a textile winter jacket to complement their leather summer jacket. Many year-round jackets have removable insulated layers, waterproof layers, and the protective outer shell. If your new jacket will be only for summer use, you should fit it over one or two lightweight shirts or t-shirts. If you'll wear it in colder temperatures, fit it loose enough to layer on a sweater, hoody, or a fleece jacket. Make sure that the sleeves are long enough to cover your wrists when your hands are stretched out to your bars and that the tail covers the waistband of your pants when sitting in your riding position. You should select your first motorcycle jacket to suit the conditions you'll ride in most of the time. If you get hooked on the sport like the rest of us have, you can always get a specific jacket for extreme warm or extreme cold conditions later. comments powered by

 54.

Sold Out $ 200.00 Vendor: This product is unavailable. Share this: LIMITED STOCK IN SELECT SIZES "Darmok”, “Unification” and “The Inner Light”. Among the very best episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation; all share one distinctive costume piece in common…Captain Picard’s suede look jacket. Designed by Robert Blackman with direct input from Sir Patrick Stewart himself, Captain Picard’s Jacket was intended to make the Captain stand out from the rest of the crew - just as Captain Kirk’s wraparound tunics had a generation before. We all wanted it the first time we saw it on El-Adrel, and by the time Jean-Luc plays the first notes of “Kamin’s Song” we had to have it. Having examined a screen-used jacket, we duplicated the patterning and precise color of the original down to a tee. We then sourced the correct synthetic fiber for the body, microsuede for the shoulders, satin interior lining for comfort, and finished it with a zipper closure so you can recreate the different adventures in which Captain Picard wore this stunning jacket. We wanted nothing less than a pinnacle reproduction of the suede look jacket Captain Picard wore on the bridge of the Enterprise-D, and as much as we wanted it all for ourselves we are "Temba, his arms wide open" the Picard Jacket to all of our Next Generation fans. Sizing Guide If you plan on wear multiple layers of clothing when wearing this jacket, we strongly recommend going up one size bigger. Chest (inches) 35"-38" 39"-41" 42"-45" 46"-49" 50"-53" Arm Length (inches) 33" 34" 34.5" 35" 35.5" Body Length (inches) 25" 26" 26.5" 27" 28" Details Synthetic fibers color matched to preserved, screen-used jacket from private collection. Patterned directly from screen-used jacket, used throughout seasons five through seven. Microsuede material for shoulders, with quilted look mirroring the original costume piece. Features Satin interior lining for comfort, just like the original. Full body front zipper closure. Hidden inside breast pocket for smaller items. 63.

Lookbook: Julian Berman Studio: Frame Photographics Almost all of our special projects are born through relationships. This one was initiated by our good friend Nate Bui, who was our first Style Profiles feature that we posted on our website. He's what you'd call a Schott leather jacket aficionado, and his love for the company and their iconic products stretches back well before he was hired to work for the company. It was through Nate's introduction to Jason Schott that we were able to begin conversations on working together on a project that would be able to represent the ideals of both companies. What resulted is a custom double rider Perfecto hand cut and sewn to our exact specifications in Schott's family-owned factory. The jacket’s silhouette is a modernized, slim fit version of the classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket originally designed by Irving Schott in 1928; Schott enthusiasts will know this exact fit as the 519. With its slightly lengthened body and slimmer arms, the jacket has a fashion-forward fit that is equally at home in both casual and riding functions. Additionally, eliminating the belt and the epaulet star on the classic Perfecto and employing matte black hardware for all zippers and snaps yields a monochromatic, easy-to-wear look. The Schott for 3sixteen Perfecto is made of premium naked cowhide, a leather with a slight sheen and supple hand that will age beautifully. Unlike traditional finished leather that has a rigid shiny topcoat, naked cowhide has no finish and open pores, resulting in a softer feel and an easier break-in period. The jacket is lined with raw Japanese selvedge chambray fabric that will provide for comfortable, lightweight, year-round wear. The lining features a busted-seam detail that runs up the back to show the self edge of the fabric. Lastly, a custom leather patch commemorating the collaboration is sewn into the lining above an inside pocket.

 72.

We’re proud to welcome Belstaff as the newest addition to our roster. This iconic British brand has been making motorcycle jackets for more than 91 years, and with some sensible updates like D30 armor and modern waterproofing, they’re better than ever. Specifically, we’re now stocking three jackets from the company’s hard-to-find “Pure Motorcycle” line—all of which come with integrated armor and removable quilted liners. As of this writing we have full size runs in each: The Brooklands 8-ounce short waxed cotton jacket, the similarly short-cut in luxury-grade, Italian-made leather, and of course the brand’s trademark: the famous 3/4-length, made from heavy 10oz waxed cotton. Check out for detailed photos and descriptions of each jacket. Or better yet come in and try one on in person. These jackets are best measured by slipping one on, feeling their weight, seeing the impeccable stitching, and generally realizing that these jackets are built to last. But they won’t last long. And that’s not just some sales shtick it’s the truth. Once our first order of jackets is gone we won’t be getting restocked until the end of the season. / Rumors of Belstaff’s Death have been Greatly Exaggerated Besides the standard product info and specs we feel obliged here to reveal some of the thinking behind bringing Belstaff onboard. If for no other reason because the last time we posted something about the brand on this website it was to for selling out, and we figured, for abandoning its motorcycle roots. Turns out we were wrong. Sortof. Mostly. The brand did indeed sell out. For those counting at home, it’s done so three times in the last decade. First it went to Italian businessman Franco Malenotti in 2004, after he’d already spent years with the brand as a distributor and director; then it sold again, this time to a Swiss luxury goods conglomerate in 2011, with personal investment from Mr. Tommy Hilfiger; and then it sold again last summer to yet another European holding company looking to beef up its stable of luxury labels. During this time Belstaff generally pursued runway shows and Hollywood cameos more than developments in motorcycle gear, with one shining exception. In 2005 the brand launched its Pure Motorcycle collection of classic waxed cotton and leather motorcycle jackets beefed up with removable D3O armor and additional waterproof and thermal liners. While it’s been next to impossible find the Pure Motorcycle line in any stateside store, Belstaff has been making this same basic armor-equipped line for nearly a decade and, it says, is committed to keeping it in production for the foreseeable future. After we got a call from the recently reorganized Belstaff last summer, we took a close look at the product and found the quality to be so ridiculously good that we couldn’t say no. That the history and heritage behind the brand is next to none is just icing on the cake. // A Diamond in the Fluff Regardless of how one favors the fashion side of Belstaff’s business model, all those runway shows have without a doubt helped sustain the company’s tradition of turning out classic motorcycle jackets—which are now better than ever. The Malenotti family (Father Franco bought the company and son Michel was CEO at the time of the 2011 sale) is responsible for steering Belstaff’s public image towards the high fashion end of the apparel and outerwear spectrum. The also pumped up the brand’s public image through copious cameos and Hollywood product placements. And despite the fact they went so far as to team up with J.Crew to put out a special issue fashion-weight Trialmaster, they didn’t abandon the brand’s motorcycle history—that DNA is far too valuable. Commendably, the Malenottis launched the Pure Motorcycle line in 2005, helping the brand maintain a foothold with motorcyclists. They also moved production to Italy—a bummer for faithful British motorcycle riders, but the move seems to have been a good thing for craftsmanship and quality control. U.S. motorcycle riders can be forgiven for having never heard of the Pure Motorcycle line before. There have been virtually no retail shops stocking it and there’s been zero real promotion on this side of the pond. If you have seen a Belstaff ad, it’s probably at best been Ewan McGregor or David Beckam, or at worst even further from its motorcycle roots: a somber glamour mode l showing off the latest high-priced women’s trench coat or pants suit. Are these jackets expensive? Damn right they are. As we’ve said before we don’t carry high-end gear for the sake of being high end. We look to stock quality gear that’ll last the test of time, and these jackets hit the mark.

 81.

Made from a patented polymer who’s molecules flow freely at rest, yet lock together when impacted, D3O is one of the most exciting innovations in protective gear in the last decade. First used at the winter olympics in 2006, it’s only just begun appearing in motorcycle gear, most notably in Klim adventure touring suits and in Icon Stryker Field Armor. Its unique properties allow it to be unprecedentedly slim and flexible while still offering CE-certified protection, which we thought would make it perfect for our little project to make ourselves stylish, yet safe motorcycle jackets. We’ve been playing with a whole mess o’ D3O protectors, from basic 13mm thick, contoured shoulder and elbow armor to the same equipped with hard plastic panels to protect from penetration to CE Level 1 and CE Level 2 back protectors. Explaining the way D3O works is really simple, even if I have no idea how it actually does what it does. It doesn’t go hard when impacted, the force is simply spread across a wide area. So you’re still getting good absorption. The active ingredient is actually a liquid that does turn hard, but, in its production form, that liquid is set into a foam that remains pliable. Because it can spread impact forces across a large area, it can afford to be thinner, absorbing the same amount of energy in a slimmer package than traditional armor or more energy if its the same size. The actual chemical makeup and sciencey stuff is like the recipe for Coke, a secret. Check out these pictures of a CE Level 2 D3O Viper Pro Back Protector compared to a CE Level 1 Alpinestars Bio Armor Back Protector. At 18mm thick, the D3O protector is approximately the same size and weight as the Bio Armor and covers pretty much the same area. Yet, the D3O protector is CE Level 2, meaning it transmits approximately half the force to the wearer as the Level 1 Alpinestars. If you’re trying to build in protection without bulk, that’s simply amazing. It’s not that the Alpinestars protector is a bad product. In fact, it’s the opposite, it’s outstanding in its affordability ($30) and comfort. That D3O is able to double the protection of an excellent product from such a progressive company is indicative of the possibilities this material offers. Yet, there’s a reason I opted for Alpinestars Bio Armor in my Vanson AR2 instead of the D3O protectors. In the elbows and shoulders, the Bio Armor covers a larger area and, due to Grant and I’s limited sewing skills, the way more dense, rubber-like material of the Bio Armor made it easier to work with. In fact, we’re probably not going to end up using any D3O shoulder or elbow protectors in the project at all, it requires very specific placement because its quite small and a pocket (sewing thread through it would cut the material). Things that surpass our ability as sewing numpties. D3O is still a young company and its products are still developing. While the material is simply amazing, the forms it’s been taking so far are a bit hit and miss. Rather than capitalizing on how thin and flexible the material is and expanding its area of coverage, D3O is making its protectors to fit into existing armor pockets. In that role, D3O doesn’t really excel. Traditional motorcycle jackets aren’t cut to take advantage of its slimness and, in that slim configuration, it doesn’t offer any more protection that standard, bulky armor. We’d much rather see far thicker armor that could offer increased protection in the same size as traditional armor for normal motorcycle jackets and entire garments developed around D3O to take advantage of its form factor. For instance, you could have it line virtually the entire forearm, wrapping almost the whole way around the arm, and it wouldn’t feel that different from a normal leather jacket or need to incorporate bulkiness in the elbows. As it is, I’m using the D3O back protector in place of Level 1 protectors in my normal bike jackets to take advantage of its light weight, flexibility and added protection. I could do so much more if the other protectors would have been a bit larger. It’s our hope that, as the company matures and awareness of the material increases, they’ll work with gear makers to create jackets, pants, suits, etc that can take better advantage of what they’ve invented. This could change the motorcycle gear world if it’s done right.

It was the model ridden by Marlon Brando's character Johnny Strabler in the 1953 film The Wild One. However, it is said that Winkler couldn't handle the Triumph and would be pushed in and out of shots during the sitcom, which ran from 1974 to 1984. The bike was provided by Bud Ekins, the stuntman who was Steve McQueen's double in The Great Escape and made the famous motorcycle jump over a barbed wire fence. It is being sold by Profiles in History in California, which is also auctioning a Fonz leather jacket that has an estimate of £30, 000. It was the model ridden by Marlon Brando's character Johnny Strabler in the 1953 film The Wild One Trademark pose: Henry Winkler as The Fonz from the TV series Happy Days in 1974 A spokesman for Profiles in History, which is selling the items, said: 'This is the motorcycle that helped make Arthur Fonzarelli, better known as The Fonz, the icon of cool that he was - the 1949 Triumph Trophy 500 Custom. 'Originally a bit player, Fonzie became the breakout star of Happy Days. 'This '49 Triumph is one of three Triumph motorcycles The Fonz used during the show's 10-year run on ABC. 'It is often rumoured that Henry Winkler was frequently pushed on the bike by stage-hands, confirmed by his own admissions due to his inability to ride a motorcycle. It is being sold by Profiles in History in California, which is also auctioning a Fonz leather jacket that has an estimate of £30, 000 'The cool factor of this Triumph is impossible to quantify or duplicate. 'The jacket was a studio used production jacket and was most likely used in various stunt scenes. 'When the show was cancelled, one of Fonzie's signature brown leather jackets was gifted to The Smithsonian Institution.
