29.
The Braves continue their rotation shuffling after a rainout and subsequent double-header have complicated their pitching plans this week, along with having zero off-days coming up. And they’re likely not done.

 30.
Kerr has been a tremendous weapon out of the bullpen since arriving in Atlanta a few weeks ago, posting a 2.89 ERA in almost 10 innings of work with 10 strikeouts and zero walks. In some ways, Kerr was the victim of his own success. After Bryce Elder got lit up by the Padres on Sunday Night baseball, Kerr came in and threw 3 innings of relief to save the bullpen from too much work with a double-header on deck. Often times that work is immediately rewarded with being sent down for a fresh arm, which is where Kerr found himself Monday night.

 33.
The Braves just felt like they needed a fresh arm the next few days. Kerr threw 3+ IP yesterday and Wednesday. https://t.co/aHiBytDDBc
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) May 21, 2024

 80.
 81.
Chris Sale’s dominant performance helped the Braves snap a four-game losing streak.

Chris Sale turned in another vintage performance as the Atlanta Braves snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the San Diego Padres.

 82.
Much like in the first game, the Braves offense wasted no time getting started against Padres starter Randy Vásquez. Ronald Acuña Jr. tripled down the left field line to start the game. Ozzie Albies brought him home with a single to left to put Atlanta in front 1-0.

 83.

 86.

 87.
 88.
 89.

 90.
Chris Sale picked up right where he left off in his last start. Sale allowed a two-out single to Jurickson Profar, but then struck out Jake Cronenworth to end the first inning. He allowed a leadoff single to Manny Machado in the second, but then retired the next three hitters in order.

 95.
 96.
 97.

 98.
The Braves added to their lead in the third. Marcell Ozuna doubled with one out in the third to extend his hitting streak to 13-straight games. Olson followed by blooping a single in to left to put runners at first and third. d’Arnaud then singled to left scoring Ozuna to put the Braves in front 2-0.

 99.

 100.

 103.
 104.
 105.

 106.
Sale added another strikeout in the third and retired the first two hitters he faced in the fourth. He lost a battle with Donovan Solano, who singled on the eighth pitch of his at-bat. Ha-Seong Kim followed with another knock that put runners at the corners. However, he came back and got Jose Azocar to fly out to right to leave the runners stranded.

 107.
The Braves extended the lead in the fifth when Ozuna jumped on a first pitch changeup from Vasquez and drove it out for his 14th homer of the season.

 108.

 109.

 110.
No doubter from the Big Bear! #BravesCountry pic.twitter.com/DbKnrH8phT
— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) May 20, 2024
 111.

 112.
 113.
 114.

 115.
It was a masterclass performance for Sale who retired the last 10 hitters he faced. He’d exit after allowing five hits over seven scoreless innings. Sale hasn’t allowed a run in his 20 innings. He struck out nine and didn’t walk anyone while throwing 103 pitches.

 116.
Pierce Johnson made his first appearance since returning from the injured list and worked a scoreless eighth. Raisel Iglesias worked a drama free ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season.

 117.
The Braves finished with 11 hits in the game. d’Arnaud led the way with three hits and drove in a run in his first game since Friday. Ozuna went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer. Every player in the lineup had at least one hit except for Orlando Arcia who went hitless in three at-bats.

 118.
With the win, Atlanta moves back to 10 games over .500 at 27-17. They will head out on the road Tuesday where they will begin a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

 286.
This will be Vines’ second stint on the active roster this season. He made his season debut in a start in Houston where he held them to one run over 4 2⁄3 innings. Vines stuck in the rotation from there and made one more start against Texas where he allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings. In six starts at Gwinnett, he has a 4.58 ERA and a 5.36 FIP in 35 1⁄3 innings.

 287.
Elder allowed six earned runs and lasted just three innings in Sunday’s loss to the Padres. He’s allowed 15 runs over his last three starts encompassing 11 2⁄3 innings.

 307.
 308.
Joe Jimenez allowed four runs in the eighth to send the Braves to their fourth straight loss.

Reynaldo Lopez turned in a good performance but the Atlanta Braves squandered a five-run lead in a 6-5 loss to the San Diego Padres

 309.
The Braves offense came out swinging against Dylan Cease in the first. Ronald Acuña Jr. singled to start the inning and then moved to third on a single by Ozzie Albies. Marcell Ozuna struck out, but Matt Olson singled to right to put the Braves in front 1-0.

 310.

 315.
 316.

 317.
Cease came back and struck out Orlando Arcia for the second out, but Michael Harris followed with a bloop single to left that scored Albies to make it 2-0.

 318.

 319.

 322.
 323.
 324.

 325.
López also got off to a good start. Luis Arraez led off the game with a single, but Lopez came right back and got Fernando Tatis Jr. to bounce into a double play. Jurickson Profar struck out to end the first. After the offense gave him an early lead, he retired the side in order in the second.

 326.
Lopez allowed a single to Luis Campusano but nothing else in a scoreless third and Atlanta’s offense got back to work. Ozuna began the inning with his 13th home run of the season to push the Braves’ lead to 3-0. Olson made it back-to-back with his sixth homer of the season to push the lead to 4-0.

 327.

 328.

 329.
BACK2️⃣BACK!#BravesCountry pic.twitter.com/iafPyDLmsc
— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) May 20, 2024
 330.

 331.
 332.
 333.

 334.
The Braves weren’t finished though. Arcia worked a walk. Cease struck out Harris, but then walked Zack Short to put runners at first and second. Jarred Kelenic singled to left to load the bases. Cease struck out Chadwick Tromp for the second out, but Acuña sent a grounder into the hole on the right side that Xander Bogaerts flagged down with a diving stop but was unable to make a play on. A run scored to make it 5-0 and Bogaerts was injured on the play and was replaced by Tyler Wade.

 335.
Now with a big lead, Lopez retired the side in order in the fourth, but the Padres scratched across a run in the fifth. Manny Machado doubled to start the fifth. Wade moved him to third with a bunt and he came in to score on a ground out by Jackson Merrill.

 336.
Lopez worked another scoreless inning ini the sixth and then came back out for the seventh. He allowed a leadoff single to Profar who then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lopez then walked Jake Cronenworth to put runners at first and second.

 337.
That prompted a visit by Rick Kranitz. Lopez came back and struck out Machado looking for the first out. He would then exit as A.J. Minter entered to face Wade. Mike Shildt countered by sending Donovan Solano up to pinch-hit but Minter struck him out for the second out. Minter jumped ahead of Merrill 1-2, but left a cutter out over the plate that he shot back through the middle to cut the lead to 5-2. Minter got Campusano to pop out to end the inning with no further damage.

 338.
It was another great outing for Lopez who gave the Braves some much-needed length. Lopez allowed five hits and two runs over 6 1⁄3 innings. He walked one and struck out four while throwing 83 pitches.

 339.
Joe Jimenez took over in the eighth and things unraveled quickly. Kim walked to start the inning. Jimenez retired Arraez on a fly out. Tatis then reached on a grounder to third that Short was unable to handle. Jimenez then walked Profar to load the bases. Cronenworth made him pay with a single to center that scored two more to cut Atlanta’s lead to 5-4. Machado followed with another double to put the Padres in front 6-5.

 340.
The Braves went six up and six down in the eighth and ninth to end the game.

 341.
It was a disappointing result for Atlanta after building a 5-0 lead. They drop their fourth-straight game and fall to 26-17 on the season. Game 2 will get underway at 6:20 p.m. ET with Chris Sale matching up against Randy Vásquez.
