  74. <p>Both parties are in a fierce battle to win over voters ahead of the yet-to-be announced General Election.</p>
  75. <p>However, recent polling has suggested the British public are becoming increasingly concerned about their retirement despite the safety net of the triple lock.<span></span></p>

  82. <p>A survey from the Get Britain Pension Ready campaign found that almost half of all Britons indicated that political instability makes them worried about pensions and retirement savings.</p>

  84. <p>Notably, 52 per cent of those polled by the campaign revealed that they confused by the term <span style="background-color: initial;">triple</span><span style="background-color: initial;">lock</span>.</p>

  328. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Haringey Council have now launched a Safeguarding Adults Review into the circumstances surrounding Ms Mavers death.</p>
  329. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Council bosses will be working with Clarion Housing Group, who managed the house where Ms Mavers died.</p>
  330. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Mr Rollins said: &#8216;The central heating stopped working on December 15. My mum reported it straight away to Clarion.</p>
  331. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;They sent an engineer out straight away, who said that he had to source a part to fix the boiler.</p>
  332. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;My mum was told the boiler would be repaired on the 22nd, and Clarion offered to provide blow heaters while she waited.</p>
  333. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;On the 22nd my mum received a call to say that the engineer had a family emergency, but that he would be back on the 27th.</p>
  334. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;I phoned the office and expressed my concerns, but I was told that nothing could be done until the 27th.</p>
  335. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;On the 27th an engineer called to the house but after mum let him in she became concerned as he had no ID or toolbox so she asked him where his toolbox was he responded saying it was in his van.</p>
  336. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;She then asked him where the part for the boiler was and he said he didn&#8217;t have it, then my mum got distressed. I think she might have swore at him out of frustration.</p>

  362. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Derek explained that he complained to the housing association but they insisted the boiler could not repaired until January 5.</p>
  363. <p class="mol-para-with-font">He said Clarion managed to send an engineer on January 2, who fixed the central heating system.</p>
  364. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Derek said that during this period of time he was also concerned that a care package was not in place to support his mum, who suffered from restricted mobility because of severe arthritis.</p>
  365. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Derek said that he told the local authority that his mum had to sleep in the bath chair.</p>
  366. <p class="mol-para-with-font">He said: &#8216;My mum was struggling to get herself out of the sofa bed in the mornings because of her arthritis. It was a major concern so in the end she just started sleeping in the bath chair at night.</p>
  367. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;The bed upstairs was untouched. My mum had not been up there in 12 years because of her arthritis.</p>
  368. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;I spent so much time on the phone to the adult care team at the council but they did not seem to care. I could never get through to the right person and there was always a problem.</p>
  369. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;I am so angry that my mum had to end her life in such grotty circumstances. She deserved more than that.</p>
  370. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;I am furious with the council and the housing association and want to take this further.</p>

  386. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;We provided extensive support to Ms Maver. Our gas contractor attended the same day the heating issue was reported and identified a part needed for a permanent fix to her central heating.</p>
  387. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;In the interim, we provided temporary fan heaters to heat the home. Our operatives visited her home three times in December and ensured the fan heaters remained in working order.</p>
  388. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;We constantly review our services and will be reviewing this case to see if there are any lessons we can learn for the future.&#8217;</p>
  389. <p class="mol-para-with-font">A Haringey Council spokesperson said: &#8216;Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Eleanor Maver.</p>
  390. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;We have asked for an independent Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR) to work with the family, Clarion Housing Group and other stakeholders to address the issues that have been raised.</p>

  448. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The 22-year-old forward beamed with pride as he sat beside his partner <span style="font-size: 16px;">Ardu Cubillo and their new arrival, with the joint post captioned: &#8216;</span>19.04.24. The best day of our lives,&#8217; with a love heart emoji.</p>
  449. <p class="mol-para-with-font">He had indicated that he had become a father during Melbourne&#8217;s round 7 win over Richmond, making a baby cradling gesture after he scored. </p>
  450. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Pickett is known for keeping his private life out of the spotlight but a quick look at his Instagram shows he&#8217;s known Cubillo for at least a year.</p>

  465. <p class="mol-para-with-font">He signed a four-year contract with the club he helped steer to the 2021 premiership, despite being chased by Port Adelaide and other teams.</p>
  466. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;I&#8217;m very excited to be signing on and continuing my career in the red and blue,&#8217; he said after putting pen to paper back in May.</p>
  467. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;The club has embraced me and my family, and I can&#8217;t thank them enough for their support. Everything I do is to make my family proud and the respect and understanding my teammates and coaches have shown us means a lot.</p>

  557. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Speaking to MailOnline, he explained: &#8216;I use Procreate on my iPad and usually choose trending or super famous celebrities.&#8217;</p>
  558. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Procreate is a popular graphics editor app, where artists an digitally alter images, or create entirely new ones.</p>
  559. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Mr Saliba uses the tool for a range of purposes, but his creations envisioning what celebrities would look like as the opposite gender have proved the most popular. </p>
  560. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Speaking to MailOnline, he explained: &#8216;So far my favorite is the Taylor Swift one and also it got a good amount of views.&#8217;</p>

  603. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Mr Saliba overlaid a face anatomy mask on an image of The Bear star and edited his facial features to fit the template designed by the Golden Ratio.</p>
  604. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The Golden Ratio is a mathematical equation devised in ancient Greece to determine &#8216;physical perfection&#8217; by comparing measurements, ratios and symmetry.</p>
  605. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The finished project shows White with sharper eyebrows, higher cheekbones, a smaller forehead and perkier eyes.</p>

  649. <p class="mol-para-with-font">After grammar school, he aspired to be a sculptor, before becoming a professor of architecture at the Academy of Applied Arts and Design in Budapest. </p>
  650. <p class="mol-para-with-font">In 1974, he invented a wooden puzzle with moving parts to help his students understand space, problems and geometric forms, which became known as the Rubik&#8217;s Cube.</p>

  657. <p class="mol-para-with-font">It proved a big hit, first with his pupils, then among Hungarians, before becoming a worldwide phenomenon.</p>
  658. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Now celebrating its 50th year, 500million Rubik&#8217;s Cubes have been sold worldwide, making Professor Rubik a multi-millionaire. </p>
  659. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Now retired, Professor Rubik lives between Budapest and Spain with his wife Agnes Hegely. The couple have three daughters and a son.</p>
  660. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">What did your parents teach you about money?</span></p>
  661. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Money was not a common topic of conversation, partly because we had hardly any. My childhood was spent behind the Iron Curtain in 1950s Hungary, so we just learned to get by with what we had. I think that has stayed with me because I don&#8217;t think about money even now, unless I have to go to the bank.</p>
  662. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">What was your first job?</span></p>
  663. <p class="mol-para-with-font">I was about 15 and I taught girls maths at my former grammar school. Salaries were state controlled but a teacher&#8217;s pay equivalent today would have been about £800 a year. From there I went to university and then to postgraduate studies in 1962, where I also taught and got paid about £1,200 in today&#8217;s money.</p>
  664. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">Have you ever struggled to make ends meet?</span></p>
  665. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Not in a way that matters to me, because I don&#8217;t admire money. For me, money is a practical way of exchanging goods, but I have never chased cash or thought about whether I have a lack of it. If you have something to eat, something to wear and time to do what you want to do, that&#8217;s enough.</p>
  666. <p class="mol-para-with-font">I&#8217;ve never been interested in accumulating money, which is a popular pastime for many people. I&#8217;ve seen how difficult it is for those billionaires who lose $20 billion in a year, which would be like losing a dollar to you. It&#8217;s very tragic, I&#8217;m sure.</p>
  667. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">How did the Cube come about?</span></p>
  668. <p class="mol-para-with-font">As an engineer, I found the technical challenge of the structure very interesting and initially it took me a month to solve the problem. I was not dreaming of hitting the jackpot by inventing a puzzle. I just found it interesting, and other people – my students and others in my circle – also found it fascinating.</p>
  669. <p class="mol-para-with-font">At first, I thought that the Cube would not sell because it was too difficult. But I realised that nothing is too difficult for a teacher to teach and for young people to learn.</p>
  670. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The Cube is a cheap thing, but it intrigues and inspires young people in a good way, which is important.</p>
  671. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">How did you get it on the market?</span></p>
  672. <p class="mol-para-with-font">I had some ideas from my father who worked as a flight engineer at an aircraft factory, so I applied for some patents. I was also looking for a company to manufacture it, which at that time in Hungary was not an easy task. Three years later, around 1978, it was on the market. It started to sell in Hungary and the first order, I think, was for 5,000.</p>
  673. <p class="mol-para-with-font">By 1980, one million had been sold in Hungary. To be clear, I was making a little, nothing spectacular, but a small profit.</p>
  674. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">Was it difficult to expand?</span></p>
  675. <p class="mol-para-with-font">It was not an easy task to go beyond the Iron Curtain, but I finally succeeded and the Cube was introduced to America. But going to the US was difficult because I was only allowed to buy up to $250 in cash, which wasn&#8217;t much to get by on when trying to promote the Cube.</p>
  676. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">Was there a limit on how much you could earn?</span></p>
  677. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Yes, the Hungarian authorities did limit how much you could bring into the country in hard currency.</p>
  678. <p class="mol-para-with-font">This wasn&#8217;t really a problem, as I was able to sell my very nice little Fiat 500 and buy a Volkswagen Golf for hard currency, which was very exciting.</p>
  679. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">Have you ever been paid silly money?</span></p>
  680. <p class="mol-para-with-font">I never knew for sure how many Cubes were manufactured and sold in the US, but I understand it was about three million units in two and a half years. There was a lot of hype, it became a craze in America and across much of the developed world. This brought in a lot of money – but I&#8217;m not a billionaire.</p>

  687. <p class="mol-para-with-font">It still sells well – it&#8217;s like that old saying – &#8216;every joke is a novelty for the new-born child&#8217;.</p>
  688. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">What was the best year of your financial life?</span></p>
  689. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Financial success is always relative to one&#8217;s circumstances, material desires and direct environment. Receiving a significant dollar amount in state-socialist Hungary was indeed exceptional. However, this changed very little throughout my life because my personal needs have always been quite modest and I have never enjoyed splurging – in fact, quite the opposite.</p>
  690. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">What is the most expensive thing you have ever bought for fun?</span></p>
  691. <p class="mol-para-with-font">A few years ago, we decided that we wanted to spend more time in the Mediterranean, so I bought a place in Spain. I enjoy the weather and the clear skies there in the winter.</p>
  692. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">What was the best money decision you ever made?</span></p>
  693. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Asking my wife Agnes to be in charge. She prevents me from making any bad decisions.</p>
  694. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">Do you have a pension?</span></p>
  695. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Like most countries in Europe, Hungary provides a state pension, so I have been receiving a small pension for more than a decade now.</p>
  696. <p class="mol-para-with-font"><span class="mol-style-bold">Do you own any property?</span></p>
  697. <p class="mol-para-with-font">We live in a four-bedroom, five-storey family house on a hillside in Budapest, plus our place in Spain.</p>

  699. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The top financial priority for me, as it should be for the governments of the world, is to educate young people. I think half of the budget for a government should go to education.</p>

  839. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Policing minister Chris Philp wriggled today over his toe-curling Question Time blunder when he asked whether Rwanda and Congo are different countries.</p>
  840. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The MP insisted he was being &#8216;rhetorical&#8217; as he was challenged over the awkward response given while being quizzed about details of the government&#8217;s policy.</p>
  841. <p class="mol-para-with-font">On Thursday night an audience member pointed out there has been a long history of violent conflict between the neighbouring countries.</p>
  842. <p class="mol-para-with-font">He asked Mr Philp: &#8216;Had my family members come from Goma (a city on the country&#8217;s border) on a crossing right now, would they then be sent back to the country they are supposedly warring – Rwanda?</p>

  871. <p class="mol-para-with-font">However, speaking on the BBC&#8217;s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg this morning, Mr Philp insisted he had been posing a rhetorical question.</p>

  873. <p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;When I put that point to him I was asking that as a clearly rhetorical question rather than a substantive question, as I think any fair-minded listener would conclude.&#8217;</p>

  945. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Jadon Sancho became the highest-scoring English player in Bundesliga history with a wonder strike in Borussia Dortmund&#8217;s 4-1 defeat by RB Leipzig on Saturday. </p>
  946. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The Manchester United loanee rejoined the club in January after being exiled by Erik ten Hag and has begun to replicate the form that earned him a £73million move to the Red Devils in 2021. </p>
  947. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Sancho took his tally in the German top-flight to 40 with a delightful curling effort into the top corner after only 20 minutes of the clash. </p>
  948. <p class="mol-para-with-font">The effort took him one past the record of former Nottingham Forest and Arsenal winger Tony Woodcock, who made made 155 appearances for Koln across two spells in the 1970s and 80s. </p>
  949. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Though, the 24-year-old is unlikely to hold onto the achievement for very long with Harry Kane hot on his heels after a remarkable debut campaign for Bayern Munich. </p>

  963. <p class="mol-para-with-font">By contrast, Sancho has racked up his total in 116 games for the Champions League semi-finalists. </p>
  964. <p class="mol-para-with-font">Earlier this month, Ten Hag spoke on the winger&#8217;s future at United, saying nothing has changed despite his progress Dortmund.</p>
  965. <p class="mol-para-with-font">His banishment from the United first team came after falling out with the Dutch manager over a social media post earlier this season. Sancho was made to train on his own for four months before returning to the Signal Iduna Park.</p>
  966. <p class="mol-para-with-font">But asked how that might affect a possible return to United next season, Ten Hag hinted strongly that the player’s refusal to apologise for the post criticising his manager was the main sticking point rather than his form.</p>
