37.

You can’t help but love the French Bulldog. As long as he can get lots of attention and stay close to you, this sweet dog can live almost anywhere. Considering its popularity among the public, it’s no wonder the American Kennel Club (AKC) ranked it fourth out of all breeds. It’s a no-brainer on so many levels! This pup is a member of AKC’s Non-Sporting Group. In any case, this has no bearing on the size of the dog since it encompasses a broad range of breeds. As opposed to working dogs, these animals did not have specific jobs, such as herding or guarding. Frenchies are flat-faced or brachycephalic breeds, which contributes to their size and care.

 38.

 39.
Many breed standards specify a range of height and weight. But French bulldogs do not fall into that category. His height ranges from 11 to 13 inches and his weight is under 28 pounds. It’s true that females are smaller than males. Any dog over that limit is disqualified by the AKC. Balanced is an ideal trait, too. Despite his small size, the Frenchie has a lot of muscle.

 40.
In relation to the dog’s proportions, the head of the French Bulldog is quite large. In addition, his front legs are shorter than his rear ones, which explains how his weight is distributed. This pup feels like he’s all muscle, but at the end of the day, this pooch isn’t the most energetic of canines.

 42.
Below are the weight ranges of the French Bulldog, which provide an indication of its growth pattern. Small dogs mature much faster physically and sexually than a large breed like a Newfoundland. At age 12 months, he will reach adult weight. In contrast, a bigger dog will reach the same milestone at 16 months or older.

 146.
French Bulldogs are the kind of loyal companion you want by your side. They are fancy, fun, and loyal. French Bulldogs are actually not French at all, and they’re the result of a cross between an English Bulldog and the French Bulldog. Small in size and quirky in personality, they appeal to pet lovers, but many do not relish the financial commitment. French bulldogs with healthy bloodlines can be afforded with some careful financial planning if you are concerned about affordability.

 155.
 156.
 157.
 158.
A dog’s initial cost is one of the few one-time costs. Apart from spaying or neutering and microchipping, you will have to continue paying for other necessities, such as food and grooming. The upfront price, on the other hand, is what most people are concerned about before they commit.

 168.
 169.
 170.
A growing number of people are adopting pets. Adoption is usually more affordable, and the fee includes spaying/neutering and initial vaccination. The cost of adopting a French Bulldog ranges from $250 to $500. Prices may vary depending on your location and whether they know the dog’s history.

 180.
 181.
 182.
French Bulldogs are expensive, but not so much that they’re unaffordable if you buy from a highly reputable breeder. Between $1,500 and $13,000 is the average price of a French Bulldog puppy. Buying your dog from a good breeder will cost you more than you expect, but it will save you money in the long run since puppies from a bad breeder are likely to have more health issues in the future. If you spy a French Bulldog puppy for less than this cost, be wary: you’re likely purchasing from a backyard breeder, whose poor breeding standards might have produced an inbred dog with issues like seizures, violent behavior, blindness or other issues…. or a dog that isn’t a real Frenchie. When you look for a breeder, ask for the papers of both parents, and their veterinary work; try to schedule a call with their regular veterinarian as well to get an unbiased opinion on the health of the parents.

 194.
Dogs don’t require a lot of setup when they are first brought home. A 30-pound bag of high-quality dog food will cost you approximately $55, which is $2 to $3 per pound. And trust us: you will want the nicer dog food for a Frenchie. Many low-quality dog foods are packed with synthetic oils and allergens, to which most Frenchies are actually quite sensitive to. If you don’t want them on your furniture while they sleep, you should buy them a bed. Dog beds cost anywhere from $20 to $40. Grab a couple of food and water bowls for them, around $10, and a collar and leash, approximately $10 to $20.

 204.
 205.
 206.
Taking care of a French Bulldog involves a lot of considerations. In addition to the upfront costs, you have to keep in mind that they are a monthly expense. Every month, you need to buy 30-pound bags of dog food, usually 1, but possibly more. They will also need to be groomed at least once a month. If you add up medications, vet visits, and pet insurance, this could be more than you can afford.

 217.
 218.
Despite being a smaller breed, French Bulldogs still eat a healthy amount of food and are relatively active. Most dogs in this breed eat about 30 pounds of food every month. This will cost between $45 and $55 a month depending on the brand you choose.

 234.

You may have a difficult time finding pet insurance for your French Bulldog. There are many health problems associated with this breed, which translates into a higher health insurance premium. In fact, some insurance companies will not cover French Bulldogs because of the high preponderance of health issues in badly-bred animals. Here are some tips to help you choose the best pet insurance for French Bulldogs. We’ll look at the costs and services of each company.

 235.
Pet insurance for French Bulldogs from Embrace
236.

 237.
One of the most popular is Embrace Pet Insurance, for good reason. Among the services it provides are exam fees, cancer treatment, and prosthetic limbs. It also covers $1,000 worth of dental treatment each year. Their usual plan covers prescription medications as well.

 238.
You can also upgrade to their Wellness Rewards plan, including coverage for wellness exams, grooming, teeth cleaning, and nutritional supplements. Wellness does cost extra. However, their regular plans are very cheap. You can get a $10,000 limit with an annual deductible of $200 for around $40, though this will differ slightly from dog to dog. Wellness will cost around an extra $25.

 239.
Pros

 240.

 241.
Inexpensive plans

 243.
Covers most conditions and treatments

 244.
High annual limits

 245.

 246.
Cons

 247.

 248.
Wellness + Accident can be expensive

 249.

 250.
French Bulldog insurance from the ASPCA

 251.
If your dog is injured or sick, the ASPCA offers complete coverage. This means you can visit any vet or specialist and they will cover the cost. In other words, there is no network. With their app, online, or via email, you can submit claims quickly. You will receive reimbursement directly into your bank account.

 252.
Accidents, dental diseases, behavioral problems, illnesses, and hereditary conditions are all covered. Pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures, preventative care, and breeding costs are not included. Their costs are pretty decent. You should expect to pay about $50 a month with an 80% reimbursement rate and a $5,000 maximum yearly.

 253.
Pros

 254.

 262.

 263.
Preventative care is not covered

 264.

 265.
Figo Pet Insurance for French Bulldogs

 266.
Pet insurance from this company is described as “insurance made simple.” Based on the few quotes we obtained, the cost is similar to the other companies we looked at. If you’re interested in unlimited benefits, they do offer that. They also cover hereditary diseases and chronic conditions. Some of these conditions are even included that other companies leave out, such as hip dysplasia. Emergencies are also covered.

 267.
Chiropractic and acupuncture are even included. A big problem with Figo is that their regular plan does not cover vet exam fees for illnesses. Since vet exams are not covered, you are responsible for paying them yourself. Rehabilitation is an optional service that must be added.

 268.
Regular vet visits will not be covered, since they don’t provide any well pet options.

 326.

Are you thinking about rescuing a Frenchie? Awesome! The experience of rescuing a Frenchie can be one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences of our lives! But finding a reputable French Bulldog rescue shelter can be difficult…

 327.
French Bulldog rescue: What you need to know

 328.
The first time you rescue a dog, there are a few things you need to know that are a bit different from getting a dog from a breeder. You may have heard about Frenchies’ ridiculous price tag, health problems, or any other Frenchie issue… but when saving a dog, keep these points in mind:

 329.

 330.
Each rescue dog is unique

 331.
Most likely, the dog has been vaccinated and fixed

 332.
Prepare for unexpected expenses… Frenchies’ health problems may cost you thousands of dollars- this is why I recommend pet insurance for all Frenchies

 333.
It doesn’t matter how old they are, you’ll need to prepare like you’re getting a puppy

 334.
You’ll need to puppy proof your house and belongings

 335.
And also purchase all the sundries you need for a new dog: brushes, shampoos, collars, food bowls, and more.

 336.
Prepare yourself for extreme separation anxiety, which is common in rescues.

 337.
And also prepare yourself for your dog to be anxious, clingy, and needing reassurance. Plenty of rescue dogs have experienced different kinds of trauma.

 338.

 339.
Check out our puppy checklist before you bring home your new Frenchie.

 340.
What is the cost of rescuing a French Bulldog?

 341.
Rescue and adoption of French Bulldogs can cost anywhere from zero dollars to several hundred dollars.

 342.
The costs of rescuing a French Bulldog compared to buying one from a breeder are much lower.

 343.
As reported by U.S. News, the average cost of adopting a dog is around $100. A Frenchie is likely to cost more than $100, however.

 344.
The 11 Best Places to Rescue a French Bulldog

 345.
Even if one is not located in your hometown, you can find a French Bulldog rescue shelter nearby. Be prepared to wait a while before you’re up next to adopt as some of these organizations operate across the entire United States.

 346.
You’ll need to wait until the rescue shelter in your area has a dog available for adoption after finding one locally. You ought to remember that French Bulldogs are the 4th most popular breed in the USA, so you may need to put your name on a waiting list. If you need help finding a French Bulldog Rescue Shelter near you, here are 11 of the most popular French Bulldog rescue organizations in the world.

Many of the foods we eat every day are extremely dangerous to our Frenchies, which is why knowing which human foods they can and cannot eat is so important!

 430.

 431.
Having these foods in moderation will prevent your Frenchie from becoming overweight.

 432.
The French will eat just about anything… but that doesn’t mean they should!

 433.
It’s not a good idea to feed your Frenchie table scraps.

 434.
Yeah yeah, we all know this. We get it. Sometimes you just can’t say no to those puppy eyes.

 435.
Generally speaking, most of the food we eat isn’t good for our dogs, but everything on this list is fine! However, dogs, just like people, can sometimes have allergies to foods which other dogs are fine with. To be safe, always feed your dog a small amount, and wait most of a day to make sure there are no bad reactions. Allergic reactions can include sneezing, developing hives, developing hot spots, itching, coughing, strange behavior, vomiting, loose stool, or frequent urination.

 466.

 467.
Our Frenchie’s Top Favorite Fruits

 468.
French Bulldogs absolutely love fruit and vegetables as snacks! Bananas are her favorite! You could give them a try some time as a high-reward treat for training and see if they like them!

 469.

 470.
Bananas

 471.
Blueberries

 472.
Raspberries

 473.
Strawberries

 474.
Watermelon

 475.

 476.
Remember, not all fruits and vegetables are safe for your French Bulldog! It is important that you feed your French Bulldogs fruits in moderation; some fruits, such as pineapple, are high in sugar, which is bad for their teeth!

 477.
Avoid These Fruits and Vegetables

 478.
Some of these fruits and vegetables can be deadly to your Frenchie if he or she eats them.

 479.

 480.
Asparagus: possible choking hazard… otherwise fine to eat

 481.
Avocado – contains a toxin called persin and the pit at the center is a choking hazard; can also cause nausea

 488.
Tomates – tomatin poisoning is caused by the green part of the tomato

 489.

 490.
2. Peanut Butter is OK for Frenchies!

 491.
Can French Bulldogs eat Peanut Butter?

 492.

 493.
Peanut butter is safe for French Bulldogs as long as it’s all natural and doesn’t contain xylitol (which is extremely toxic to dogs). Make sure you read the ingredients list carefully.

 494.
After all, what dog doesn’t like peanut butter? Peanut butter is one of my Frenchie’s favorite treats!

 495.

 496.
Peanut butter: what makes it so good

 497.

 498.
A tablespoon of peanut butter has only a few calories and fat, but it’s a great source of protein and fiber too!

 499.
It has always been my practice to bribe my pets with peanut butter to eat their medications. In case your Frenchie is fussy and won’t take their medicine, remember this tip!

 500.
3. Yogurt

 501.
Can French Bulldogs eat Yogurt?

 502.
Yogurt is okay in small quantities, but your Frenchie shouldn’t consume too much of it. Dairy is not easily digestible by dogs, and too much can cause digestive problems in them.

 503.
What makes Yogurt good

 504.
It’s the active bacteria found in yogurt that makes yogurt great for pups who can digest it! This strengthens the digestive system with probiotics. Check to make sure it doesn’t contain added sugars or artificial sweeteners, such as Xylitol, before feeding it to your Frenchie!

 505.
4. Cheese

 506.
Can French Bulldogs eat Cheese?

 507.
Cheese is fine for most Frenchies to eat – you’ll want to keep their portions small though. Dairy may not be suitable for some Frenchies, as just as in humans, some might have allergies to lactose or other elements in the cheese.

 508.
Whether they’re lactose intolerant or not, some dogs just can’t digest cheese as well as others.

 509.
They might experience upset stomachs, gas, diarrhea, or other digestive issues when they eat cheese or other dairy products.

 510.
Even small amounts of dairy can cause problems for lactose intolerant dogs.

 511.
What makes Cheese good

 512.

 513.
It is high in protein, calcium, vitamin A, essential fatty acids, and B-complex vitamins, which are all important for the health of your French bulldog.

 514.
Look for cheeses with low fat and sodium content when feeding your French Bulldog. The healthy choices are mozzarella and cottage cheese.

 515.
5. Protiens like Chicken, Turkey & Beef

 516.
Many dog foods, raw diets, and treats contain these three sources of protein.

 517.
If you want to spoil your Frenchie while also being kind, just make sure you’re feeding them lean proteins. Chicken and turkey are better than beef, generally. You also want to make certain they haven’t been cooked in fatty oils, wines, or other ingredients.

 518.
Some plain old chicken or turkey from the deli is perfect!

 519.
What makes Chicken, Turkey & Beef good

 520.

 521.
When it comes to protein, there’s not much better than this. These are the main ingredients in most dog foods you’ll find on the market.

 522.
6. Salmon

 523.
As long as the salmon is fresh (would you eat it?), you’re good-to-go.

 524.
What makes Salmon good

 525.
Salmon is a great source of protein for your pup. Just aOmega-3 fatty acids found in salmon are beneficial not only to humans, but also to your pets! French Bulldogs benefit from these fatty acids for a variety of reasons, including the health of their coat and skin, as well as numerous other benefits.

 526.
Some other benefits of the Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon are

 527.

 528.
improving eye health

 529.
and promoting brain health

 530.
as well as heart health

 531.
Inflammation reduction

 532.
