47.

A joke involving quail, from JokeBuddha.com:

 48.
A car drives up to a farmer’s house, a man gets out, knocks on the door, and the farmer opens it. “A friend told me you have a mule that points quail,” said the stranger, “is that true?”

 49.
“Sure is”, said the farmer, “would you like to see him work?”

 50.
The stranger said, “Sure”.

 51.
Soon they were walking through a field, when the mule suddenly stopped and struck a beautiful point. The farmer walks ahead of the mule and scares up a big covey of quail. This goes on a half dozen more times…the mule points…the farmer scares up the covey.

 52.
Finally, the stranger says, “That’s enough, I’ve got to have that mule.”

 53.
“He ain’t for sale”, said the farmer.

 54.
“I’ll give you $50,000.00 for him,” said the stranger.

 55.
Well, the farmer couldn’t refuse such a big offer, so he sold the mule.

 56.
The next night, the farmer’s phone rang…it was the stranger. “What the hell’s wrong with this damn mule you sold me? All he’s done all day is stand belly deep in my pond!”

 57.
The farmer says, “I guess I should’a told you… he’d rather fish than hunt.”

 93.

Today we feature singer, songwriter, composer, and actress Peggy Lee, or as she’s called, “Miss Peggy Lee.” She had a career that spanned seven decades, and influenced many singers, including k. d. lang, Madonna, Beyoncé, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, rita Coolidge, and Billie Eilish, for starters. She wrote, in whole or in part, 270 songs, and was the inspiration for the Magarita (not, as I had once heard, Rita Hayworth). She was a great singer and actress, and somewhat of an icon. Here are five of her songs, which you can find in a playlist form [here](

Per Wikipedia: “He is best known for inventing and using the technique of the ‘break-in,’ an early precursor to sampling, that used brief clips of popular records and songs to ‘answer’ comedic questions posed by voice actors on his novelty records. He also wrote and produced some original material, most often heard on the B-sides of his break-in records.” “Batman and His Grandmother” reached #70 on the Hot 100 in 1966.

 213.

The world has been plunged into one large collective dream, with every person having the ability to control everything that affects his own skills, appearance, and persona, but with no control over other people. How would this new order of things change your life in particular?

 214.
My appearance: My weight and height would yield a BMI of 30, i.e. 5’9", 200 lb. As such, I’d be able to dress better, and I would: not ncessarily stylish, but more classic (see above).

 215.
My skills: I’d have eschewed a college degree and developed skills that I could use to find myself work in the trades (electrician, plumber, HVAC technician). For the off-duty hours, I’d be skilled at both the guitar and harmonica, even more so than I was pre-stroke.

 216.
My persona: would have nothing to do with my appearance or skills. I’d continue to be the goofy bastard that everyone has come to know and love. Not quite as desperate in love, nor as hot-headed and rash as I’ve been at times. I’ve often said that marrying Mary is one thing I got right in my life, and I’d hope that she’d be a part of my life in the dream, but who knows? I don’t control what others think or do, remember?

 217.
Given all of the above: I’d be looking for Mary, or someone similar, and to settle down. For a man, success begins with meeting someone he can share his life with. But it wouldn’t be my greatest concern. All things in good time, as they say. Professional advancement and personal growth would be at the forefront of whatever I did, but wouldn’t be all that I did. I’d take the time to develop my musical ability and friendships.

 218.
In short, I’d be looking for a life much different in many ways from the one I had. I hope this makes sense…

 272.

An old wives’ tale is “a colloquial expression referring to spurious or superstitious claims.” They’re kind of like urban legends, passed along orally from person to person, kind of like legends or fables. Most can be dismissed out of hand, but there are some cases where they’ve actually proven to be correct. Examples:

 273.

 274.

 275.
If a child’s forehead tastes salty, he’s probably seriously ill. A salty taste to a child’s skin might be an indication that the kid has cystric fibrosis.

 276.

 277.

 278.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning; red sky at night, sailor’s delight. A red sky in the evening means that a high-pressure system is coming in from the west, bringing clear weather. A red sky in the morning means that the high pressure has moved to the east and it might indicate rain or otherwise bad weather may be coming in.

 279.

 280.

 281.
Don’t shower or take a bath during a lightning storm. Water is a very good conductor of electricity, and if lightning hits a water main, that electricity could be transmitted all the way to your tub or shower.

 282.

 283.

 284.
These are three of the 19 “Old Wives’ Tales” That Have Actually Been Proven Right By Science in this article. Can you think of any others?

He was hired by the producers of the TV series The Monkees to find songs for them that would become hits. He used the Brill Building songwriters under his employ, which included Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart (“Last Train To Clarksville”) and Neil Diamond (“I’m A Believer”), and was able to meet the show’s production schedule. “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” written by Neil Diamond, was released by Kirshner as a single, against the wishes of Columbia Pictures management, which got him fired. The song was released in 1967 and reached #2 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Cash Box Top 100 Singles chart.
