우크라이나에 역전패…사상 첫 은메달
한국 올림픽 펜싱 여자 사브르 단체전에서 사상 첫 은메달이 나왔다.
윤지수(31), 전하영(22·이상 서울특별시청), 최세빈(23·전남도청), 전은혜(27·인천광역시 중구청)로 구성된 한국 여자 사브르 대표팀은 4일(한국시간) 프랑스 파리 그랑팔레에서 열린 2024 파리 올림픽 여자 사브르 단체전 결승에서 우크라이나에 42-45로 역전패당했다.
세계랭킹 1위 프랑스를 준결승에서 격파하며 금메달까지 노렸지만, 은메달에 그친 것.
하지만 한국 여자 사브르 대표팀이 역대 올림픽 최고 성적인 2020 도쿄 올림픽 동메달을 넘어서 역대 최고 성적을 거뒀다.
또한 한국 펜싱은 오상욱(대전광역시청)이 남자 사브르 개인전에서 한국 선수 첫 결승 진출과 금메달, 남자 사브르 단체전 석권에 이어 여자 사브르 단체전 은메달까지 이번 대회를 금메달 2개와 은메달 1개로 마무리했다.
여자 사브르 대표팀은 이번 올림픽을 앞두고 간판스타 김지연(현 SBS 해설위원)의 은퇴 등 세대교체가 이뤄졌다.
8강전에서 미국을 45-35로 제압한 대표팀은 준결승전에서 세계 1위이자 개인전 금메달(마농 아피티-브뤼네), 은메달리스트(사라 발제)를 보유한 홈 팀 프랑스를 45-36으로 꺾는 파란으로 사상 첫 결승 진출을 이뤄냈다.
결승 상대인 우크라이나는 2008년 베이징 대회 금메달, 2016 리우데자네이루 대회 은메달을 획득한 여자 사브르 강국이었다.
대표팀은 전은혜를 1라운드에 배치했고, 차세대 주자 전하영, 최세빈이 분위기를 이끌었다.

전은혜가 이번 대회 개인전 동메달리스트인 우크라이나의 ‘국민 검객’ 올하 하를란과 맞붙은 첫 라운드에서 3-5로 밀렸으나 전하영이 율리아 바카스토바와의 2라운드에서 10-8로 전세를 뒤집으며 접전을 펼쳤다.
최세빈이 알리나 코마시추크와의 3라운드 초반 고전했지만, 공격적인 플레이가 살아나며 15-13으로 리드를 이어갔다.
여기에 전은혜가 바카스토바와의 4라운드에서 런지 공격 등을 뽐내며 20-14로 도망가 주도권을 잡았다.
최세빈이 하를란과의 5라운드에서 23-23, 바카스토바와의 7라운드에서 31-31 동점을 허용했지만, 역전은 내주지 않았다.
이후 7라운드까지 35-33 박빙이 펼쳐졌다.
전은혜가 코마시추크가 만난 8라운드까지도 40-37로 앞섰으나 전하영과 하를란의 ‘신구 에이스 대결’이 펼쳐진 9라운드에서 끝내 고비를 넘지 못했다.
하를란은 특유의 긴 런지를 활용한 득점으로 연속 득점을 몰아치며 대역전승을 연출했다.
현재 우크라이나는 러시아와 전쟁 중이다.

한국 유도 대표팀은 4일 프랑스 파리 아레나 샹 드 마르스에서 열린 파리 올림픽 유도 혼성단체전 동메달결정전에서 독일을 4–3으로 꺾고 동메달을 따냈다.
2021년 도쿄올림픽 대회에서 신설된 혼성단체전에서 한국이 메달을 따낸 것은 이번이 처음이다.
남자 3체급(73㎏급, 90㎏급, 90㎏초과급)과 여자 3체급(57㎏급, 70㎏급, 70㎏초과급) 등 총 6명이 출전해 먼저 4승을 따내면 승리하는 방식이다.
단체전 6개 체급 가운데 남자 73㎏급과 여자 70㎏급에 나설 대표 선수가 없는 상황에서 안바울이 한 단계 위 체급에 출전했고, 이번 동메달로 한국 유도 첫 올림픽 3회 연속 메달리스트가 됐다.

하지만 전날 여자 무제한급 동메달을 딴 김하윤(여자 70㎏초과급)이 두번째 주자로 나서 르네 루흐트를 허리후리기 절반에 이은 누르기 절반으로 한판승을 거두면서 역전승의 발판을 놨다.
이어 남자 무제한급 은메달리스트 김민종(남자 90㎏초과급)이 에릭 아브라모프를 허벅다리 절반에 이은 누르기 절반으로 한판승하며 역전했다.
여기에 허미미(여자 57㎏급)가 누르기 한판승을 거두며 메달을 눈앞에 두는 듯했다.
하지만 안바울(남자 73㎏급)과 김지수(여자 70㎏급)가 나란히 패하면서 동점이 됐다.
혼성단체전은 3-3 동점이 될 경우 추첨을 통해 골든스코어 방식의 마지막 대결 체급을 고른다.
추첨 결과 남자 73㎏급이 선택됐고, 조금 전 9분 38초의 혈투를 벌였던 안바울은 다시 경기에 나섰다.
자신보다 큰 체격을 상대로 재대결을 펼친 안바울은 5분 25초 승부 끝에 반칙승을 거두며 메달을 확정 지었다.
안바울은 혼성단체전 16강(튀르키예), 8강(프랑스), 패자부활전(우즈베키스탄), 동메달 결정전(독일)을 치르는 동안 무려 35분 49초 동안 매트에 있었다.
앞서 진행된 우즈베키스탄과 패자부활전에서도 안바울은 마지막 주자로 나서 연장전 포함 12분 37초의 혈투 끝에 반칙승을 거두며 극적으로 동메달 결정전에 합류했다.
안바울은 경기 후 “어느 때보다 개인전 준비를 잘해서 자신이 있었기 때문에 아쉬움이 남았다”며 “근데 조금이라도 아쉬움을 달랠 수 있게 됐다”고 소감을 전했다.
그러면서 3연속 메달 기록에 대해 “오랜 시간 한국 유도를 대표하는 자리에 있고 또 올림픽이라는 무대를 세 번이나 나와 다 메달을 따서 감사하다”며 “개인 기록보다는 팀과 함께했다는 것에 감격해했다.
이어 “여기 있는 선수들 말고도 함께 훈련한 모든 선수가 진짜 많이 생각났다”며 “그래서 더 힘을 내야 하고 무조건 이겨야겠다고만 생각했다.

금빛 메치기는 없었지만, 한국 유도의 희망을 확인했다.
한국 유도 대표팀이 2024 파리올림픽에서 24년 만에 가장 많은 5개의 메달을 수집하면서다.
유도 대표팀은 4일 프랑스 파리 샹드마르스 경기장에서 열린 대회 유도 혼성 단체전 동메달 결정전에서 독일과 연장전 승부를 펼친 끝에 4-3으로 승리했다.
혼성 단체전은 남자 3명(73㎏급·90㎏급·90㎏ 이상급)과 여자 3명(57㎏급·70㎏급·70㎏ 이상급)이 참여하는 경기다.
3년 전 도쿄 대회부터 처음 도입됐는데, 한국이 이 종목에서 메달을 딴 건 이번이 처음이다.
도쿄에서는 첫 라운드 탈락과 함께 9위에 머물렀다.

Thailand’s government is working to get a law on casino resorts – currently at a draft stage – passed during 2025 by the two chambers of the country’s parliament, reported Bloomberg on Friday, citing an interview with Prommin Lertsuridej, Secretary-General to the country’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The draft law is likely to be approved by Thailand’s cabinet before the end of this year, prior to being considered by the parliament, the report suggested.
It cited the Thai official as stating: “The law should be passed in six months from now at the earliest, so it should be next year to start.”
The Thai government has so far received expressions of interest from “big investors with world-class experience”, the official was also quoted as saying, though the report did not cite any further details.
A set of public recommendations in response to a draft of the legalisation proposal has been forwarded to the national government for consideration.
The legal proposal – as aired recently – mentioned that any authorised Thai casinos would be established within what the authorities term “entertainment <a href="https://www.casinositezone.com/">온라인카지노</a> complexes”. Also mentioned was that a licence for a casino resort complex should have an initial validity period of 30 years, with the possibility of renewal for up to 10 years.
The proposed legislation has also suggested that such entertainment venues may only be operated by a limited company or a public limited company registered in Thailand, which must have a paid-up capital of at least THB10 billion (US$286.9 million). The gaming tax rate is suggested at 17 percent.
The Thai gaming and leisure industry could, when “fully ramped”, generate US$9.1 billion annually in gross gaming revenue (GGR), exceeding the performance of Singapore’s current duopoly, and trail “only behind Macau and Las Vegas”, suggested Citigroup in an outlook on Thailand report released earlier this week.
The institution was working from a presumption of two licences in the Thai capital, Bangkok, and one each in the vicinity of Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, three places popular with foreign tourists.
A casino gaming industry in Thailand, if legalised, could emerge as one of the “most pursued” markets by gaming companies, with the potential to be able to generate “US$4 billion to US$6 billion” in annual GGR, Morgan Stanley suggested in a late September report.

Sir Chris Hoy and his brave wife Sarra have decided not to tell their kids about her incurable multiple sclerosis diagnosis as the family face a double tragedy.
The strong couple already had to break it to children Callum, 10, and Chloe, 7, that their hero dad had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The Olympic cycling legend went public with his health battle this week, announcing doctors have given him just 2-4 years to live.
The six-time Olympic champion said in February he was first diagnosed last year and had begun treatment following the cancer diagnosis.
He only this week revealed the extent of his condition.

He earlier revealed the gut-wrenching circumstances in which he had to inform his kids of the news. The 48-year-old described the dinner conversation <a href="https://www.powerballsite.com/">파워볼</a> at the start of the year as the “hardest thing I’ve ever done”.
And in an attempt to shield their children, Hoy and Sarra are keeping her health battles to themselves, The Sun reports.
Sarra is undergoing low-risk, less effective treatments for her condition instead of more potentially effective, but riskier, new treatments, it is reported. 
Within the space of three months, the Hoy family were dealt two shocking blows.
In September 2023, a doctor delivered the awful news to Hoy that he had Stage 4 cancer.
What was first diagnosed as a tumour in his shoulder, the primary cancer was located in his prostate.
The prostate cancer had metastasised to his bones, pelvis, hip, spine, shoulder and rib.
Medics have given Hoy two to four years to live.
The 40-year-old mum-of-two was then diagnosed with a “very reactive and aggressive” type of MS just before Christmas that same year.
Sarra’s condition was spotted when she went for a scan after experiencing a tingling sensation in her face and tongue.
Now, some days are worse than others — with Sarra struggling to fit the key in the door at times.
He said his wife “loves running” and gym classes and stays positive by refusing to pay heed to her condition. 
“She says all the time, How lucky are we? We both have incurable illnesses for which there is some treatment,” he said.
“Not every disease has that. It could be a lot worse.”
The Sunday Times has now revealed more details about Hoy’s memoir, with the athlete saying it was learning about his wife’s MS diagnosis when he hit “rock bottom”.
“It’s the closest I’ve come to, like, you know, ‘Why me? Just, what? What’s going on here?’ It didn’t seem real,” he said.
“It was such a huge blow, when you’re already reeling. You think nothing could possibly get worse. You literally feel like you’re at rock bottom, and you find out, oh no, you’ve got further to fall. It was brutal.”
Hoy recalled telling his children that no one lives forever but he hopes to “be here for many, many more years”.
And recording the audio version of his memoir, ‘All that Matters: My Toughest Race Yet’, was even more traumatic, he told BBC.
He said: “The last chapter is basically where I’m writing to the kids. You know my message to them. You know, my final message to them.

“Hana Bank is a completely different team than us. They have good big men. At first, we tried to play fast break, but it didn’t work out. In the second half, we became more defensive and played a lot of fast breaks,” he said, adding that it was a big reason for the victory.
When asked about the difference from the 2023-2024 season, she said, “Last season, I felt a lot of pressure on offense. There were a lot of things I had to do, but this season, with (Park) Hye-jin and (Kim) Sonia, I felt less pressure. I don’t think I play as much as I did last season. Personally, I try to keep my basketball simple. There are many players on the team who play basketball with the ball. I need to work on my movement without the ball more,” she said.
On playing with seniors who are very aggressive offensively, she said, “When I get open, my sisters will attack, or they’ll pass to me. Sometimes I just have to stay still and move one foot and shoot, and I think that’s good.”
