  43. <p>Meta seems to be taking varied perspectives seriously as it announced today (Mar. 13) that it has begun testing out Community Notes, similar to what X does on its platform.</p>
  44. <p>With this feature, users would add more context about a certain topic as contributors on that platform. This will replace the now active third-party fact-checking feature on all of its apps. However, like X, users would first have to sign up to be contributors for this feature. These contributors will be allowed to write and rate notes on content across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.</p>

  54. <p>To be a contributor, users need to be over 18, have an account that’s more than 6 months old, and be in good standing, meaning not flagged for misuse. Other than that, the profile should be two-factor authenticated as well.</p>
  55. <p>As users start contributing, Meta says the author&#8217;s names will remain anonymous to protect their privacy and show up as &#8220;People added a community note&#8221; under the said image/topic. Contributors will be able to submit notes on anything, including stuff posted by Meta, politicians, and other public figures. However, they won&#8217;t be able to add to advertisements.</p>

Additionally, when community notes are added to a specific image/topic, it won&#8217;t flag the post the way that fact-checking would.</p>

  126. <p>Samsung is pushing an update for its demo-focused app that might generate some hype around its major Android update.</p>

The app&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://trygalaxy.com/" data-url="https://trygalaxy.com/" target="_blank" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" data-hl-processed="none" rel="noopener">official page</a> reflects its recent update of Samsung&#8217;s upcoming Android 15-based update. For what to expect, Try Galaxy will simulate some of the newest core systems on your device, like the Now Brief.</p>

The small, pill-shaped widget displays some quick information externally before expanding fully once tapped. This experience is exactly what you&#8217;d see on a Galaxy S25. Users tapping the widget will receive a simulated briefing packed with weather information, your &#8220;schedule,&#8221; and more.</p>
  130. <p>The playtest also gives users a taste of Samsung&#8217;s quick panel overhaul. The Quick Settings panel and your notifications panel are now separate in One uI 7. This was something the company teased during SDC 2024 before it debuted on the latest flagship trio.</p>

  137. <p>The One UI 7 simulation also features some smaller software pieces like Samsung&#8217;s complete icon rework. Galaxy&#8217;s upcoming app drawer redesign is also included in the Try Galaxy demo, per the publication. Users can head to the official website, scan the QR code, and begin downloading the simulation on Android and iOS.</p>
  138. <p>Funnily enough, Samsung&#8217;s Try Galaxy app was previously only available for Apple&#8217;s iPhones as a way to, well, get them to switch. The app would simulate the Android experience on its recent smartphones and even its foldables.</p>
  139. <p>However, the company finally brought its Try Galaxy app to Android users. The move was made as Samsung stepped into its &#8220;era of mobile AI.&#8221; Many of the core Galaxy AI features were present during that test, as well as the company&#8217;s One UI 6.1 update for interested users. The Galaxy AI playtest let users experiment with Live Translate, Note Assist, and Chat Assist among others.</p>

  150. <p>As if we needed to be more ready for One UI 7, this Try Galaxy update is rolling out (perhaps) a month before the software goes live. Samsung recently confirmed that, after a series of critical delays, One UI 7 should launch for eligible Galaxy devices in April. Meanwhile, it just started its first beta program for the Flip 6 and Fold 6.</p>

I&#8217;ve taken trips with and without my DSLR camera, some with just a tablet, some with a VR headset alongside a mouse and keyboard, and others with just a phone in my pocket. Each of these setups is good for different types of trips, but what about the times you need a little bit of everything?</p>

  200. <p>Android Quick Share finally made file transfer a breeze, enabling extremely fast, one-tap transfer between Android devices, Windows devices, or both. I regularly pass files between my Windows-based laptop and any number of Android phones in my possession, and it&#8217;s made my life and job so much easier.</p>

  202. <p>But what about sharing screens or even transferring mouse and keyboard input between devices? That&#8217;s a lot harder, but some companies have created ecosystems that work well with each other in a nearly seamless way. People have stuck with Apple for this reason, and now a few Android companies have finally caught up, offering easy cross-device connectivity between phones, laptops, and tablets, all without having to download extra apps or paid services to get the job done.</p>
  203. <p>I&#8217;m going to highlight what I think are the three best interconnectivity solutions available on Android today, all of which work a little differently and have a slightly different scope.</p>

  211. <p>Of all the available solutions, Motorola takes the cake for device simplicity. Motorola Smart Connect just requires you to have a Motorola phone or tablet, and the rest falls right in line. It requires the most setup of the three ecosystems I talk about today, but that&#8217;s because you can use any Windows-based laptop to connect your phone or tablet as if they were one big, cohesive device.</p>
  212. <p>Once you&#8217;ve got the Motorola Smart Connect software installed on your computer, pairing it with your Motorola smartphone or Lenovo tablet is just a QR code scan away. From there, all linked devices will share a clipboard and have easy file transfer. You can even pull up your phone or tablet&#8217;s storage on your PC as if it were a USB drive.</p>
  213. <p>What&#8217;s particularly cool is that you can run individual phone apps on your PC, letting you multitask your favorite idle clicker game alongside those work spreadsheets, all without having to touch the phone. Motorola lets you control your phone or tablet with the same mouse and keyboard as your PC. So they feel like an extra monitor instead of separate devices running different operating systems. Plus, you can use your phone&#8217;s camera as a webcam for any meeting, which could come in handy in several scenarios.</p>

  231. <p>Samsung makes a lot of electronics. From washing machines to TVs and refrigerators to smartphones and tablets, the company does an impeccable job of cohesively connecting all these devices. Samsung smart home devices work with non-Samsung phones and computers via the SmartThings app, but for the scope of this article, interconnectivity between your phone, tablet, and laptop all have to be between Samsung Galaxy products.</p>
  232. <p>It&#8217;s easy to share your Galaxy S25 Ultra&#8217;s screen with a Samsung TV by tapping &#8220;share screen&#8221; in the notification shade. Moving windows and apps between a Samsung tablet and phone just requires you to enable multi-control. And if you&#8217;re lucky enough to have a Samsung Galaxybook laptop, you can even share your Samsung GalaxyBook&#8217;s keyboard with your phone.</p>
  233. <p>You can also transfer files between devices by using familiar interfaces — either the share dialog on an Android device or File Explorer on Windows — as well as share clipboards between devices. There are few things handier than copying a link on your phone and being able to instantly paste it somewhere on your PC.</p>
  234. <p>Samsung DeX has been around for the better part of a decade and provides an easy way to use your phone like a laptop, letting you hook it up via USB-C cable to any monitor to project UI that looks and works exactly like a PC. Samsung hasn&#8217;t done much with DeX in a while but it still works well for those times when you need better multitasking and don&#8217;t have a laptop around to do it.</p>

  242. <p>But while I really like all the interconnectivity from Samsung, there&#8217;s still a bit of setup that&#8217;s required to get everything working together. Honor&#8217;s Magic Ring, the company&#8217;s oddly named interconnectivity solution, automatically recognizes and enables connectivity between any Honor device around it that&#8217;s signed into the same Honor account.</p>
  243. <p>Magic Ring is a centralized connectivity suite that shows all adjacent devices with all potential actions available for each. The same UI is found on every device with Magic Ring support — Honor tablets, phones, and laptops — so there&#8217;s no misunderstanding about what devices support which functions.</p>
  244. <p>If I tap the laptop icon, I can tap either screen sharing or input sharing, then tap the accompanying device to perform that action. In the case of my most recent work trip, tapping screen share and then tapping the tablet icon gave me an instant second monitor I could use while working from my hotel room.</p>

  251. <p>Likewise, tapping the icon for the Honor Magic 7 Pro smartphone or the Honor Pad V9 tablet gives me additional options like taking a picture and instantly sharing the photo to my laptop.</p>
  252. <p>Magic Ring was also <em>vital</em> to my job during Hurricane Helene last Fall when I had no home internet for a month. I didn&#8217;t want to pay T-Mobile for an unlimited hotspot package, and Magic Ring let me run my Honor Magic V3 foldable in split-screen on my tablet so I could quickly transfer files and browse the web from the larger screen.</p>
  253. <p>Aside from great interconnectivity, Honor&#8217;s devices are also a lot better for me to use because of my PWM sensitivity.</p>

  261. <p>Interconnectivity between devices is more than a gimmick or convenience. It&#8217;s a huge part of what makes device ecosystems better than others and why people often choose to use Samsung or Honor devices over some other Android manufacturers.</p>
  262. <p>These companies aren&#8217;t alone in offering interconnectivity — OnePlus, for instance, offers auto-connect capabilities between devices like the OnePlus 13 and the OnePlus Pad 2 — but Honor and Samsung offer more devices than most other Android manufacturers, making their interconnectivity solutions a bit more valuable.</p>
  263. <p>The recently announced Honor Alpha Plan aims to go beyond current offerings by extending interconnectivity to all devices — not just ones made by Honor — including iPhones and other non-Android devices by utilizing the power of AI.</p>

  486. <p>The Pixel 9a&#8217;s release may be just around the corner, and while we anticipate learning more about the phone — several leaks have been coming in hot.</p>
  487. <p>The most recent one gave us a good look at how the alleged hardware and design of the device. Coming from avid tipster<a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://x.com/evleaks/status/1897836775290085404" target="_blank" data-url="https://x.com/evleaks/status/1897836775290085404" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" data-hl-processed="none" rel="noopener"> Evan Blass</a> are what seem to be official marketing images of the Pixel 9a. In an X (previously Twitter) post, Blass showed off alleged renders of the mid-range phone.</p>

  489. <p>In terms of the hardware, the Pixel 9a seems to have flat edges, rounded corners, and an end-to-end screen. Additionally, the images confirm what the previous leaks have been pointing towards— the mid-range device could be losing the signature Pixel camera visor. Instead, it will have a pill-shaped housing flush with the rear panel of the phone.</p>
  490. <p>However, in another image showing the phone horizontally, a sliver of the camera bump seems to exist— indicating that the company may not be letting go of the bump altogether.</p>

  542. <p>As indicated in previous leaks, the Pixel 9a could come in four colorways: Black, silver, pink, and Lilac, but the official names of these colors remain under wraps so far. That said, in the subsequent thread, Blass shows off some of the Gemini&#8217;s features that could supposedly show up on the Pixel 9a.</p>
  543. <p>To start, one image shows a person triggering Gemini by holding down the power button. The other images seem to indicate that the phone will come with Android 15&#8217;s anti-theft protection and several cameras, calling, and general Pixel ecosystem features.</p>
  544. <p>Another leak that popped up earlier this week indicated that the Pixel 9a could come with satellite connectivity out of the box. The mid-range phone is said to have shown up for FCC certification with the digital label explaining, &#8220;The satellite feature on this device must be turned off at all times while on board an aircraft by turning on airplane mode,&#8221; which is similar to what showed up on the flagship model as well.</p>

  599. <p>Lock Screen widgets are a crucial part of the Google Pixel Tablet experience, and they&#8217;re coming to all Android phones later this year. Google announced the move in a <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2025/03/widgets-on-lock-screen-faq.html" target="_blank" data-url="https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2025/03/widgets-on-lock-screen-faq.html" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" data-hl-processed="none" rel="noopener">blog post</a> on the Android Developers Blog today, March 6. The update will be pushed to the Android Open Source Project in &#8220;late Summer 2025&#8221; and &#8220;all widgets are compatible with the lock screen widget experience,&#8221; according to the company.</p>
  600. <p>&#8220;Lock screen widgets will be available in AOSP for tablets and mobile starting with the release after Android 16 (QPR1),&#8221; the company says in the post. Pixel phones might get lock screen widgets first, as the blog post notes &#8220;other device manufacturers may update their devices as well once the feature is available in AOSP.&#8221;</p>

However, it&#8217;s up to those third-party OEMs to implement the functionality when it becomes available. Notably, Google says device manufacturers can&#8217;t customize the appearance of lock screen widgets, so it&#8217;s possible some OEMs might opt not to include this feature.</p>

  610. <p>Google also provides insight on how widgets might appear on the lock screen in the form of developer instructions. &#8220;For the best experience, please make sure your widget supports dynamic color and dynamic resizing,&#8221; the post explains. &#8220;Lock screen widgets are sized to approximately 4 cells wide by 3 cells tall on the launcher, but exact dimensions vary by device.&#8221;</p>
  611. <p>Lock screen widgets, when available, could give users more ways to easily take actions within apps with fewer taps. Android 16 is set to bring multiple new experiences to the lock screen, as Live Updates are also expected to arrive as part of the update.</p>

  665. <p>Google <a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://blog.google/products/search/ai-mode-search/" data-url="https://blog.google/products/search/ai-mode-search/" target="_blank" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" data-hl-processed="none" rel="noopener">announced</a> today that it is testing out a search mode that has the ability to answer complex questions and go beyond just a few pointers that appear with AI Overviews.</p>
  666. <p>According to the tech giant this mode has, &#8220;advanced reasoning, thinking, and multimodal capabilities.&#8221; This means when users ask questions on AI Mode, the AI chatbot will not just give you an entire page&#8217;s worth of answers but will also give you follow-up questions in case you want to take the search further.</p>

  668. <p>The AI Mode shows up as an additional tab/option below the Google search bar, on the left-hand side of the &#8220;All&#8221; option. According to Google, it received feedback from &#8220;power users&#8221; that they&#8217;d like to see more AI responses to their searches. This is why the company has now started testing this model which is powered by Gemini 2.0</p>
  669. <p>The difference between AI Overviews and AI Mode is that it will give you answers to nuanced questions in one go, rather than having users sieve through multiple searches. It could be particularly helpful when users are trying to do a deep dive into a new concept or when comparing varied options.</p>
  670. <p>For instance, you can ask Google how Déjà vu works and how it pertains to memory, with Overviews, you only get the answer to what Déjà vu is and links to studies, however with the new AI Mode, Google explains, it will give you several pointers on the above and also explain how the concept relates to memory.   735. <p>OPPO has been basking in its Find N5 spotlight, after it showed off the world&#8217;s slimmest foldable and now, is jumping onto the next big thing—AI.</p>
  736. <p>The company announced its AI- strategy in collaboration with Google today at the MWC in Barcelona and is promising to bring monthly AI updates to its phones.</p>

  738. <p>In a press release, the company elaborated on how it will make these updates a reality. It said that Google will be at the center of its on-device AI, meaning Gemini will be able to communicate across OPPO&#8217;s native apps like Notes and Calendar. OPPO&#8217;s devices that are compatible with AI will get these new capabilities, thanks to the current Gemini 1.5 Pro and Gemini 1.5 Flash.</p>
  739. <p>&#8220;We are excited to collaborate with OPPO to shape the future of mobile AI by bringing together Google technologies with OPPO&#8217;s exceptional hardware and software,&#8221; said Matt Waldbusser, managing director for Global Solution and Consumer AI, Google Cloud.</p>
  740. <p>Talking about its AI strategy, the company says it&#8217;s working on establishing three key areas that focus solely on AI Productivity, AI Creativity, and AI Imaging which will help build better AI features for existing and future OPPO devices. That said, efficient AI programming needs an equally efficient and powerful chip. So, the company will also be collaborating with MediaTek which will bring optimized chips to OPPO&#8217;s AI table.</p>
  741. <p>This collab is said to bring &#8220;AI-enhanced photography to next-generation gaming experiences, from intelligent security solutions to seamless device connectivity,&#8221; the press release added.</p>

While we don&#8217;t have much information as to when they will be rolled out, the company said &#8220;AI Search and integration of OPPO applications with Google Gemini are coming to the OPPO Find N5 soon.&#8221;</p>

  759. <p>Lastly, features like AI Call Translator, which interprets calls in multiple languages in real-time, and AI VoiceScribe which summarizes information across voice calls, are said to show up in future updates.</p>
  760. <p>While the Find N5 is the only device mentioned in the above update, it remains to be seen if these features will grace other OPPO devices as well.</p>
