The Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI) is hosting contests to find new ideas and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images to represent Korea. The “New Korea — Ideas” and “Korea Image Created by AI” contests are held ahead of the CICI’s annual Culture Communication Forum (CCF) 2024.The “New Korea — Ideas” contest seeks for fresh and globally appealing contents to portray Korea that will capture the world’s attention in the years to come.Instead of conventional content such as K-pop, K-drama, “hansik” (Korean food), “hanok” (traditional Korean house) and “hanbok” (traditional Korean attire), participants are encouraged to submit ideas from various fields that have potential to make a global impact representing Korea.
For the “Korea Image Created by AI” contest, applicants should create and submit images that effectively represent Korea using AI. Images can be themed in various fields, including food, tourism, music and film, without genre restrictions.Both contests are open to Korean and foreign nationals aged 18 and over and should submit their works until June 10. The country’s major brokerage firms marked significantly improved performances in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, but reserving provisions for non-performing real estate project financing (PF) will be a key variable affecting their future performance, market observers said.Korea’s eight major securities firms saw a total net profit of 1.4 trillion won ($1.02 billion) in the first quarter of this year, according to the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system DART.This represents a 12.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year.The eight securities firms are Mirae Asset Securities, Korea Investment & Securities, NH Investment & Securities, KB Securities, Hana Securities, Shinhan Securities, Kiwoom Securities and Daishin Securities.Korea Investment & Securities recorded a net income of 368.7 billion won, an increase of 40.7 percent from the same period the previous year, achieving the highest quarterly earnings in its history.NH Investment & Securities also experienced substantial growth, with its first-quarter net income rising 22.4 percent to 225.5 billion won, marking its best performance in 11 quarters.Their better-than-expected performance was primarily driven by brokerage services, as the stock market regained momentum after the government announced the Corporate Value-up Program.An increased volume of foreign currency trading also played a part.
Their performances are expected to continue improving, mainly through brokerage and investment banking services.However, as financial authorities have recently intensified efforts to restructure real estate PF, there are warnings that additional reserve provisions may cast a cloud over their future performances.Already, the industry experienced significant losses last year, with PF-related provisions set aside in the fourth quarter ranging from 100 billion won to 700 billion won.Financial authorities currently classify projects into three categories: good, average and at risk of deterioration.They are reportedly considering refining the evaluation criteria to include the current categories and adding a fourth, “questionable recovery,” to facilitate smoother restructuring. This could involve changes to loan maturity, business purpose, or sales to third parties, all of which could increase losses at securities firms.Last month, Korea Investors Service estimated that potential losses related to PF risks at 26 securities firms could range between 4.6 and 7.6 trillion won.Financial authorities are set to announce the overall measures early next week.”Financial authorities intend to implement stricture measures, including refining the viability assessment criteria for PF projects and strengthening the quorum requirements for maturity extensions. A man in his 20s has been arrested in Korea on suspicion of involvement in the murder and abandonment of the body of a Korean tourist in Pattaya, Thailand, police officials said Monday.The suspect was nabbed at his residence Sunday evening and put under emergency arrest, according to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency.Police have been tracing the whereabouts of the suspect, who is one of the three Koreans suspected of kidnapping and murdering a Korean national in his 30s in Pattaya.

A short-term unlimited transit pass specifically targeting inbound tourists will be launched in July, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Sunday. According to a report by market researcher Niko Partners released last year, the number of gamers in India was expected to reach 444 million by 2023, with forecasts predicting that figure to increase to 641.2 million by 2027.Among the game companies, Krafton is already enjoying significant popularity in the Indian market with a mobile survival shooting game.Krafton launched BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) in July 2021, and the game surpassed 100 million users within just over a year of its release. He enjoys peeping into other people’s lives, sneaking into their homes using the keys his clients left for him.
One day, a social media influencer, So-ra (Shin Hye-sun), catches his interest after seeing her posting a vegan salad as her meal on Instagram while eating a sausage. When she visits his office as a client, he takes the chance to make frequent secret visits to her home until one time when he finds her dead inside. He realizes he must uncover the true culprit to exonerate himself.Byun noted this film sets itself apart from other thriller genre works as it also has a light-hearted sense throughout.“The film is both easygoing and also brings laughter.
