Millions of Social Security beneficiaries in the United States are about to experience a significant change. Beginning in April, all recipients must verify their identity in person at official offices in order to continue receiving monthly payments.

This new measure, proposed by the Trump administration through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), seeks to improve oversight of federal spending and reduce fraud in the Social Security system.

The change has already sparked concern, particularly among older adults and people living in rural areas who may face difficulty accessing government services.

The new rule applies to both new applicants and current beneficiaries, and it replaces the previous system, which allowed for identity verification via the official Social Security website.

Those who fail to complete this step risk losing access to their benefits because unverified accounts may be flagged as inactive or fraudulent.

In-Person Identity Verification Starts in April

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Donald Trump and overseen by Elon Musk, is enforcing this policy in response to internal claims that the Social Security Administration (SSA) was issuing payments in the names of deceased individuals. The new process is intended to prevent such errors and tighten control over public funds.

Beginning in April, online identity verification via the SSA website will no longer be accepted. All beneficiaries, regardless of when they enrolled in the program, must visit a local SSA office to verify their identity in person.

Failure to complete this verification process may result in the suspension or termination of monthly payments, as the system considers unverifiable accounts suspicious or inactive.

Source (Google.com)

Quick Facts: New SSA Identity Rule

Item

Detail

Start Date

April 2025

Who’s Affected

All Social Security recipients

What’s Required

In-person identity verification only

No Longer Allowed

Online verification via SSA website

Risk

Loss of benefits if not verified

Main Concern

Seniors and rural residents

Elderly and Rural Residents Could Face Disadvantages

Advocacy groups and community leaders have expressed concern about the new policy, warning that it could affect thousands of vulnerable beneficiaries, particularly seniors living in remote or underserved areas who may struggle to get to SSA offices.

The situation is exacerbated by the recent layoff of over 7,000 SSA employees, which may result in additional delays and long wait times for those attempting to comply with the new rule.

While the government defends the measure as a necessary step to improve transparency and reduce waste, many Americans are now facing uncertainty because their continued access to Social Security benefits is contingent on completing an in-person verification process—a step that some may find difficult or even impossible.

In previous years, the IRS sent a large number of checks to United States citizens who were eligible for a tax refund. However, many of the beneficiaries who were eligible for one of these Refunds did not complete all of the requirements, so they have yet to receive it.

However, if you are eligible, there is still time to receive one of these IRS payments, so it is best to check the eligibility criteria as soon as possible and find out what we need to do to get a Tax Refund in the coming weeks.

If we are not eligible, we will not be able to receive this specific payment, but that does not mean that we will not receive a Tax Refund from the 2024 Tax Return.

The current Tax Season is still open and the $1 billion refunds are a separate payment that the IRS makes with respect to previous campaigns to help Americans in need.

Until when can I request the Refund from the IRS?

The deadline to claim this refund is April 15th, 2025. After that date, we will be unable to request a refund, and we will forfeit our right to the additional stimulus check from the IRS. However, we still have plenty of time to receive the payment and complete all of the necessary steps.

Time is running out to claim $1 billion in #IRS unclaimed refunds for 2021. File by April 15, 2025. Visit: https://t.co/ddNOlDdMTu pic.twitter.com/DlPW8m5Swo
— IRSnews (@IRSnews) March 21, 2025

To receive one of these IRS payments, we must first meet all of our previous tax obligations. Only in this way will we receive a stimulus check of up to $1,400. Also, if you are eligible, you will not have to do anything else, and the payment will be made directly to your checking account.

Is this IRS Refund compatible with Social Security?

Our bank can receive both the Social Security payment and the IRS refund in the same month without any problems. Both payments are compatible as long as we meet all of the requirements for receiving them. So make sure to read all of the conditions carefully and contact the IRS if you have any questions.

So, with these payments already received, we will only have a little extra money for our regular expenses. Not only that, but the IRS is distributing a large number of Tax Refund 2025 checks to citizens, so we might as well get one of these other checks to maintain a slightly higher standard of living at this time of the month.

Receiving a monthly payment from SNAP Food Stamps in the United States is extremely beneficial because it allows families to improve their standard of living in a variety of ways. Because of this benefit, the most vulnerable Americans can purchase fresh food and eat it directly in participating establishments.

However, the payment schedule for this benefit differs slightly from that of the others. The primary reason is that the SNAP Food Stamps check is sent on different days depending on the state in which we reside. Living in New York differs from living in Florida because the two states have different schedules.

So, if you have had your SNAP Food Stamps payment accepted, you should know that this week the last checks of the month will be sent out. Therefore, if you don’t get the money on your EBT card, you may have to claim it, as there could be delays.

Latest SNAP Food Stamps payments in March

Although the maximum payment for SNAP Food Stamps is $292, not all Americans have access to this amount. Each payment is completely unique and based on the beneficiary’s income level.

The United States government has officially confirmed a new Social Security payment scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, with amounts up to $5,108.

This is the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) second round of payments in March 2025, providing critical financial support to millions of retirees and disability beneficiaries across the country.

For many Americans, Social Security is their primary source of monthly income, covering basic necessities such as housing, food, and healthcare.

The SSA uses a structured payment calendar based on beneficiaries’ birth dates to ensure that payments are delivered consistently and on time. The upcoming March 26 disbursement follows this pattern, providing critical relief to those who meet the eligibility requirements.

Who Will Receive the March 26 Social Security Payment?

According to official SSA guidelines, only individuals who meet all three of the following conditions will receive the March 26 deposit:

They began receiving Social Security benefits after May 1997.

They do not receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments.

Their birth date falls between the 21st and 31st of any month.

On March 26, eligible recipients can expect to receive the deposit directly into their bank accounts. The maximum benefit amount of up to $5,108 is based on the individual’s lifetime earnings and retirement age.

Full March 2025 Social Security Payment Schedule

The SSA has divided March payments into three rounds based on birth dates:

March 12: For beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th.

March 19: For those born between the 11th and 20th.

March 26: For individuals born between the 21st and 31st.

Furthermore, SSI recipients can expect a separate payment in April 2025, with checks worth up to $967 intended to help low-income individuals and households.

Tips to Maximize Your Social Security Benefits

While Social Security payments vary based on work history and age at retirement, beneficiaries can take steps to increase their future benefits, including:

Delay claiming benefits: Waiting until age 70 to begin collecting Social Security can significantly raise your monthly check.

Work at least 35 years: The SSA calculates your benefit using your highest 35 years of earnings. Fewer years on record can reduce your benefit.

Earn more during your working years: The more income you report to the SSA over your career, the higher your monthly benefit will be.

With the March 26 payment approaching, eligible recipients should stay alert for the deposit and consider strategies to manage their finances effectively. These regular payments not only support day-to-day living but are also a cornerstone of long-term financial planning for millions of Americans.

Millions of retirees and individuals with disabilities in the United States rely on Social Security benefits to cover basic living expenses such as rent, groceries, medications, and utilities.

As March draws to a close, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially confirmed the final payment for the month, which is aimed at a specific group of beneficiaries.

This payment, scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, is part of the SSA’s regular distribution calendar and is only available to those who meet specific eligibility requirements.

Understanding who qualifies and when the payment will arrive is critical for effective financial planning, particularly in light of rising living expenses.

Who Qualifies for the March 26 Social Security Payment?

The upcoming payment will be sent to people whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of any month, as long as they started receiving benefits after May 1997. These recipients are in Group 4, as defined by the SSA’s structured payment schedule, which divides beneficiaries into four groups to facilitate disbursement.

Eligible recipients, particularly those on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), may receive up to $4,018. Retirees aged 62 and up in the specified group will also receive their monthly checks on this date.

If you are a disability worker receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), check your calendar to see if the payment is scheduled to arrive in your bank account on the fourth Wednesday of March. Every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends three large groups of bank transfers to beneficiaries of this federal program.

In March 2025, SSDI beneficiaries in the third payment group (born between the 21st and 31st of any month) will receive their payment on the fourth Wednesday of the month, which is March 26, 2025.

In 2025, the average SSDI benefit is $1,580 per month, but the maximum can be up to $4,018 for beneficiaries who have contributed for a long time and have salaries that fall within the maximum taxable limit of Social Security taxes. All of these amounts include the additional 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment for 2025.

Source (Google.com)

What requirements must I meet to receive SSDI?

To qualify for SSDI benefits, it is not enough to simply go to a Social Security office and say you have a disability; your claim must also include several elements, such as your history of FICA contributions (Social Security taxes), for a sufficient period of time for the process to be completed.

Work Credits Required:

20 credits are needed in the last 10 years before disability (equivalent to ~5 years of work).

Younger people may require fewer credits (example: those under 24 years of age may need 6 credits).

Credits are earned by earning a minimum annual amount (in 2025: $1,810 = 1 credit; up to 4 credits can be earned per year, for a total of $7,240).

The medical condition or disability must be serious and prevent you from performing any gainful employment activity (SGA). In 2025, the SGA income limit is $1,620 per month for people with disabilities who are not blind, and $2,700 per month for people who are blind.

Advanced cancer, multiple sclerosis, serious heart disease, disabling mental disorders (such as schizophrenia), and spinal cord injuries are among the most easily approved conditions for SSDI. If the condition is not on the list, it is assessed to determine whether it prevents employment in any relevant job (functional residual capacity).

Of course, you must be a legal citizen or immigrant with qualifying status, with current documents, between the ages of 18 and 65, and not receive any other benefits. After age 65, your SSDI payment is automatically converted to retirement.

People with disabilities lasting less than 12 months, those without enough work credits, and those earning more than the SGA income limit are ineligible. Dependent family members, such as children under the age of 18, as well as spouses or ex-spouses who care for a disabled child up to the age of 18 (or are over the age of 62), may be eligible for additional benefits.

Social Security benefits receive a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) each year to match inflation rates, helping beneficiaries maintain their purchasing power despite economic changes.

The COLA is calculated using the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W), which measures inflation.

When the CPI-W rises, Social Security benefits are adjusted to reflect the increased cost of living.

This system has been in place since 1975 and ensures automatic annual benefit increases.

In recent years, COLA adjustments have fluctuated dramatically. For example, the COLA for benefits payable in December 2022 and received in January 2023 was 8.7%, reflecting the sharp rise in the CPI-W during the year ending in the third quarter of 2022.

Source (Google.com)

This increase emphasizes the impact of inflation on daily expenses and enables beneficiaries to keep up with rising costs.

The COLA for December 2021 was 5.9%, which was received in January 2022, based on previous year’s inflation rates.

In contrast, the COLA for December 2020 was only 1.3%, indicating a period of low inflation.

Similarly, the December 2019 adjustment was 1.6%, while the December 2018 increase was 2.8%, demonstrating how inflation directly influences Social Security adjustments.

The December 2023 COLA is set at 3.2%, with beneficiaries receiving the increase in January 2024.

This adjustment reflects moderate inflation for the year ending in the third quarter of 2023.

Looking ahead, the December 2024 COLA is expected to be 2.5%, with payments adjusted in January 2025.

This ongoing adjustment process ensures that Social Security benefits remain in line with inflation, allowing recipients to manage changes in the cost of living.

If you’re looking to save money on groceries, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can be a huge help.

Many eligible Americans receive more than $200 per month to cover grocery expenses, but the amount varies depending on household size and income.

If you’re considering applying for SNAP, here are 16 important facts to help you determine if you qualify:

1. Low-wage and Unemployed Workers Can Apply

SNAP benefits are available to individuals who meet certain income and asset requirements.

Low-wage or part-time workers, the unemployed, welfare recipients, the elderly, the disabled, and the homeless may all be eligible.

2. Monthly Income Limits Apply

To qualify, your household’s gross and net income must be within certain limits. Gross income is your total income, whereas net income is what remains after allowable deductions.

Currently, a single person’s monthly gross income limit is $1,580, with a net limit of $1,215. The gross limit for a family of four is $3,250, while the net limit is $2,500.

3. There’s a Limit on Countable Resources

Households cannot have more than $2,750 in Countable Resources, such as cash or bank account funds. If a household member is 60 or older or has a disability, the limit rises to $4,250.

Some resources, such as homes, most retirement plans, and Social Security or Tanf benefits, are not counted.

4. Snap Amounts Change Every Year

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) adjusts Snap Benefit Amounts annually based on inflation and the Thrifty Food Plan, which estimates the cost of low-cost nutritious meals.

5. You Must Apply Through Your State

Snap Applications Go Through Your State’s Agency. You can apply at a local Snap office, online (if available), or by calling your state’s Snap hotline.

6. Most States Allow Online Applications

Most States Let You Apply for Snap Benefits Online. If your State Doesn’t, You May Need to Print the Form or Get One from A Local Office and Mail It In.

7. Benefits Depend on Household Size

The Amount You Receive Is Based on Your Household Size. A single-person Household Can Get up to $291 per Month, While a Family of Four Can Receive Up To $973.

8. Benefits Are Provided Within a Month

If You Qualify, You’ll Typically Receive Benefits Within 30 Days of Applying.

9. Some Recipients Get Benefits Faster

If you have little or no monthly income, you may be eligible for expedited benefits within seven days.

10. Benefits Come Through an Ebt Card

Snap Benefits are loaded onto an Electronic Benefits Transfer (ebt) Card, which can be used like a debit card at approved stores. You will also receive a PIN for secure use.

11. Snap Benefits Are Accepted at Many Stores

Snap Benefits can be used at most grocery stores, superstores such as Walmart and Target, convenience stores, and farmers’ markets. The USDA’s Snap Retailer Locator can help you find approved locations.

12. You Can Buy Most Food Items

Snap Benefits Can Be Used to Buy Fruits, Vegetables, Meat, Fish, Dairy, Bread, Cereals, and Snacks. You Can Also Buy Seeds and Plants to Grow Your Food.

13. Some Items Are Not Covered

You Can’t Use Snap Benefits to Buy Alcohol, Tobacco, Vitamins, Medicines, or Hot Food at Grocery Stores, or Restaurant Meals.

14. You Need to Reapply Periodically

Your Snap Benefits Are Certified for A Specific Period. Before They Expire, You’ll Receive a Notice About Renewing Them.

You’re Also Required to Report Changes in Your Income or Household Status.

15. Alaska and Hawaii Offer Higher Benefits

While most states limit the maximum benefit to $973 for a family of four, Alaska and Hawaii allow up to $1,937 and $1,759, respectively.

16. Work Requirements May Apply

To remain eligible, you may need to meet work requirements, such as not quitting a job, not voluntarily reducing work hours, registering for work, and participating in job training programs as required by your state.

Bottom Line

If you meet the eligibility requirements, applying for Snap Benefits can help you save money on groceries and reduce financial stress.

Even if You Do Not Qualify for the Maximum Amount, Receiving Extra Assistance with Groceries Can Make a Significant Difference in Your Budget.

According to the Latin Times, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are reportedly negotiating an agreement that would allow the IRS to use tax data to verify the names and addresses of people suspected of being in the country illegally.

The agreement would allow the IRS to cross-check names submitted by ICE against confidential internal tax data, according to four anonymous sources who spoke with The Washington Post.

This agreement is contentious because IRS tax information is strictly confidential and protected.

Normally, sharing internal tax data with outside law enforcement agencies requires a court order and is only permitted under certain legal circumstances.

According to the IRS Disclosure page, tax information may only be shared with law enforcement for the purpose of investigating and prosecuting non-tax crimes if a court order is obtained.

The proposed agreement would limit the data shared with ICE to immigrants living in Alabama and those who have already received final removal orders.

Furthermore, only Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem or acting ICE Director Todd Lyons had the authority to request this information.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a new mandatory requirement for the majority of their beneficiaries, which will take effect as soon as March 31, 2025. The agency is changing how it verifies your identity: essentially, they want to know if you are you and that you exist.

There will be no more phone calls for this step, as everything will be done online or in person. Yes, there will be some changes, but do not be concerned. I’ll walk you through what’s changing, why it’s important, and how to get through it with ease.

The Short version: The SSA just introduced a mandatory in-person check-up

Benefits and direct deposit updates no longer require you to verify your identity over the phone. Starting next week (yep, March 31 is right around the corner!), you’ll need to do one of these things:

Hop online using the SSA’s “my Social Security” portal, or

Visit an office in person if you’re not into digital stuff.

“Why the change?” you might ask.It is all about security and fraud prevention. The SSA aims to reduce fraud, which sounds great… Unless you have difficulty with technology or are unable to easily access an office. More on that in a moment.

Source (Google.com)

Not everyone will like this, but we all want the SSA money to stop being leaked to people who do not deserve it. If you are tech-savvy, you will most likely breeze through the online process. But for people like:

Older adults who prefer talking to a human,

People in rural areas with spotty internet or faraway offices,

Those with disabilities who find travel tough,

…this could feel like a hurdle. The SSA knows this, though, and they’re urging people in these groups to schedule in-person appointments ASAP to avoid delays. But, move faster than the others: Call their hotline at 1-800-772-1213 to book a space in the line. Offices might get swamped after March 31, so better safe than stuck in a line!

First time claiming your Social Security benefits? Here’s the starting point

If you’re about to retire, or you’re considering claiming your Social Security benefits, here is where you can start right now:

Online: Set up your “my Social Security” account now at SSA.gov/myaccount. If you haven’t logged in since 2022, you might need to switch to Login.gov or ID.me (it’s easy, promise).

In-person: Call that 1-800 number today to book an appointment. Seriously, don’t wait—these slots will fill up fast.

Even if you start the process by phone, you’ll still need to verify your identity online or in-person to finish it, as the new mandatory requirement dictates.

Bring your government-issued ID (driver’s license, passport), Social Security card (or a copy, but the original is better), a birth certificate (just in case) or tax documents, depending on your situation.
