Three Eagles had their names called over this past weekend’s NFL Draft. Boston College was one of 11 schools with two (Ezeiruaku, Trapilo) or more players drafted in the first 2 rounds drafted in the NFL Draft. Center Drew Kendall was drafted in the fifth to the other Eagles.

But wait there’s more. A number of other BC guys are fielding calls to participate in offseason programs, minicamps, or outright sign with teams as undrafted free agents.

Defensive tackle Cam Horsley who was picking up some steam throughout the draft process quickly signed with the Tennessee Titans. Horsley was the top rated interior defensive lineman to go undrafted per NFL Network.

Offensive lineman Jack Conley is staying local signing with Mike Vrabel’s Patriots.

Running back Kye Robichaux signed a UDFA contract with the Detroit Lions. Robichaux joins his former teammate Christian Mahogany.

Linebacker Kam Arnold landed a deal with the Washington Commanders.

Tight end Kamari Morales has been invited to rookie minicamps with both the Ravens and Dolphins, while wide receiver Dino Tomlin has been invited to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers minicamp.

Running back Treshaun Ward is rated the 26th best available undrafted back available, most of whom have found an early home. There are some whispers around Ward with the Steelers and he did visit with the Jets. DE Neto Okpala, and DBs Khari Johnson and Bryquise Brown round out the Eagles looking and might be on some team’s radars as well. Johnson may be headed to Buffalo, but nothing official there yet.

Stay tuned for more updates, but best of luck to all as they continue their football journeys.

On Sunday afternoon, two rivals met once again when the Boston College Eagles and the North Carolina Tarheels met in the women’s lacrosse ACC Championship game. UNC is ranked #1 in the country and have an undefeated record, while BC is #2 with their only loss coming to UNC in the regular season by just one goal. It was another close defensive slugfest today in Charlotte, with UNC once again coming out on top, defeating the Eagles 14-12.

The two teams went back-and-forth all game, with nobody holding a lead of more than two goals at any point in the contest. Mia Mascone was the early impact Eagle, scoring BC’s first two goals of the game and creating early offense despite the Tarheels coming out of the gates swinging. UNC won 7 of 11 draw controls in the first quarter and controlled the pace of the game early trying to slow things down, but the BC defense held strong and the Eagles went shot for shot with their opponents. Things picked up a bit in the second quarter and two late BC goals by Mascone and Mckenna Davis helped pull BC into a 7-7 tie at halftime.

The game got slowed way back down in the third quarter, with both teams milking the shot clock and barely an inch being given on defense on either end. The Eagles finally broke things open with two quick goals at the start of the fourth quarter, but it was UNC’s answer that defined the game. The Tarheels, down 11-9 with ten minutes left in the game, ripped off four straight goals to take a 13-11 lead with less than four minutes remaining. North Carolina dominated the draw controls in the fourth quarter, 8-2, and the BC defense struggled to get stops. A late goal by Molly Driscoll gave BC a last gasp of hope, but it wasn’t enough as UNC eventually claimed the 14-12 win.

The NCAA Tournament begins on May 9, followed by the Final Four at Gillette Stadium on May 23rd and 25th.

On Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Boston College center Drew Kendall in the 5th round of the 2025 NFL Draft, taking him with the 168th overall pick.

Kendall is a Boston College man through-and-through, following in his father’s footsteps who played for BC in the 1990s and was drafted in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Kendall earned all-ACC first team honors in 2024 and was an important leadership presence on the Boston College offensive line for three seasons. Kendall may struggle to make an immediate impact in the NFL due to his lack of strength compared to other professionals, but he has the grit and determination that any coach will love and we could see him eventually work his way into a starting OL. You can read more about Kendall’s scouting report here.

On Friday evening, the Chicago Bears selected Boston College right tackle Ozzy Trapilo in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft, taking him with the 56th overall pick.

Trapilo played in at least nine games in four straight seasons for Boston College, improving as he went along and eventually earning all-ACC first team honors in 2024. Trapilo is a huge 6’8”, 316 pound offensive tackle and is a contender to make an immediate impact in the NFL. You can read more about Trapilo’s scouting report here.

The Chicago Bears’ GM is Ryan Poles, a former offensive lineman and Boston College alum himself. He made his second round selection with protecting Bears QB Caleb Williams as a top priority. The Bears have needed upgrades all across their offensive line, having already replaced their center and both guards this offseason. Now Trapilo will come in to compete for a starting role at tackle.

Good luck in the pros, Ozzy!

Boston College DE Donovan Ezeiruaku Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd Round of the NFL Draft

With the 12th pick of the 2nd round of 2025 NFL Draft, Donovan Ezeiruaku has heard his name called in Round 2 by the Dallas Cowboys.

He is the 44th overall pick and fifth edge rusher taken in this year’s class. Four defensive ends were selected in the first round yesterday.

Donovan Ezeiruaku’s tenure at Boston College stands as one of the most decorated and impactful in the program’s recent history. His journey from promising freshman to consensus All-American and national award winner is a testament to the tradition of defensive excellence on Chestnut Hill.

In 2022, Ezeiruaku had his first breakout campaign as a sophomore. He emerged as a defensive force, starting all 12 games and earning All-ACC Second Team honors. He led the team with 8.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss, while also recording 61 total tackles and three forced fumbles—establishing himself as a premier pass rusher in the ACC.

After a challenging junior year, Ezeiruaku exploded in his senior season, Bill O’Brien’s first at BC. He delivered one of the strongest defensive performances in Boston College history. His 16.5 sacks tied Harold Landry’s BC single-season record and was second in the FBS. He accumulated 80 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss (first in the ACC, second nationally), 15 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, league leading 60 pressures, and won games virtually on his own.

On the awards and recognition front, Ezeiruaku’s 2024 campaign was recognized across the board. He was awarded the Ted Hendricks Award for the nation’s top defensive end). He was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year. As mentioned, he was a Consensus First-Team All-American (the 13th in BC history and first since 2013). His 28 career sacks put him second behind Mathias Kiwanuka on the all time BC list.

Beyond the stat sheet, Ezeiruaku’s impact was felt in his leadership as a two-time team captain and his versatility—contributing on special teams and in coverage, and serving as a model teammate and locker room presence. He finished his career as one of the best pass rushers in Eagles lore, renowned for his technical skill, relentless motor, and football IQ.

Congratulations and good luck in (on) Dallas, Donovan!

Since we last checked in on Boston College baseball (21-20, 9-12), they played some solid ball in the last week. They played a weekend series on the road against Wake Forest (26-15, 10-11) and took two of three to earn the upset series win.

On Thursday night, BC pitched well, but not well enough and the Demon Deacons won, 5-4. The Eagles went down 4-1 early in the game, but Adam Magpoc tied it in the seventh with an RBI single. But Wake hit a solo homer in the eighth and held off the BC offense in the ninth.

Games two and three went swimmingly for Birdball; they won 7-2 and 7-5. On Friday, BC trailed 2-0 after the second inning, but scored seven unanswered runs and captured an easy win. Interestingly enough, BC only had one RBI hit as a team because the rest of the runs were scored through a combination of walks, a catcher’s interference, a wild pitch, and a groundout. JD Ogden threw six scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Saturday’s rubber match saw BC control most of the ballgame. The Eagles held a 4-2 lead after three innings before Wake Forest took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer and a single. But with two on in the top of the seventh, Kyle Wolff gave the Eagles the lead with a two-RBI single to left field. Vince Cimini added an insurance run in the eighth on a solo shot to left center. The Eagles held on for a 7-5 win with Tyler Mudd getting the win and Joey Ryan getting the save.

BC returned home for two midweek games, winning both. They played Quinnipiac (22-15-1) on Tuesday and ended the game in seven innings, grabbing a 15-2 victory. The Eagles tallied 13 hits as a team and Jack Toomey, Cimini, Magpoc, and Julio Solier all had multiple hits and RBIs. Brady Miller threw five scoreless innings, striking out three and earned his third win of the season.

On Wednesday, UMass Lowell (14-25) came to town and gave the Eagles a run for their money. The River Hawks took a 2-0 lead before BC scored runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Neither team scored again until the top of the ninth when UMass Lowell scored two runs on a base hit. In the bottom of the ninth, Patrick Roche walked and Jack Toomey singled. Wolff drove in Roche with a single and tied the game at 4-4. After a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, Cimini sent BC fans home happy with a walk-off single and the Eagles won their fourth game in a row, 5-4.

This weekend, the Eagles will be visited by the Miami Hurricanes (24-17, 9-9). Sunday’s game is the 13th Annual ALS Awareness Game and will be played at Fenway Park.

BC Football Lands Two Transfers on Defense in Jason Hewlett and Chris Marable Jr.

Photo by Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

The portal has opened up, and Bill O’Brien has landed two new commitments on the defensive side while largely avoiding any major transfers out the door.

Linebacker Jason Hewlett is a sophomore coming in from Michigan. On the defensive line, Chris Marable Jr. arrives from ACC rival Wake Forest. The South Carolina native will be a redshirt-sophomore in the upcoming season.

Hewlett was four-star prospect coming out of Youngstown, Ohio. He has an offer from BC back in 2021/2 among many other programs. He had experience at multiple positions in high school and his strength and speed were major pluses in his recruitment. The 6-2, 227 pound athlete redshirted in 2023, and then appeared in nine games last season. He recorded three tackles against Northwestern, but overall didn’t find enough opportunity in a deep Michigan defense. 247 had him as the 5th ranked linebacker available in the portal. Virginia Tech, among others were recruiting him heavily. For the Eagles, linebacker is one of the few places O’Brien has been clear this offseason is a position of need for depth with a number of guys unable to participate in spring practices. Hewlett should come in and immediately be able to compete.

The 6-3, 293 pound Marable was a three-star coming out. In this redshirt freshman season, he saw action in five games, and logged a tackle in two games against Clemson and Ole Miss. In his true freshman season he only saw action against Syracuse. He had offers from many of the usuals including FSU, Georgia Tech, and Va Tech. He comes in and adds depth and youth to BC’s defensive tackle group.

Both guys are starting anew still quite early in their college careers with three years of eligibility remaining. They hit at key positions for BC. Welcome to the Heights!

As reported over the past few weeks, quarterback Jacobe Robinson, OL Otto Hess, and DB Jalon Williams have entered the portal. Robinson makes sense with a crowded QB room, while Hess and Williams are nearing the end of their careers looking to get regular playing time. Best of luck to these three.

ACC Tournament Preview - #2 Boston College Women’s Lacrosse

It’s been yet another fantastic season for the Boston College women’s lacrosse program while they’ve defended their 2024 national title. The Eagles sit at #2 in national rankings after finishing the regular season with a 15-1 record, their only loss coming against undefeated #1 North Carolina. Now, with the ACC tournament beginning on Wednesday, the intensity is about to really ratchet up. BC is also defending back-to-back ACC titles and this tournament could end up pitting them against #1 UNC one final time before the NCAA tournament. Let’s get into it.

2025 Season Recap

When BC got an early season victory over #3 Northwestern, 13-9, it was an omen of good things to come for the Eagles. That game featured hat tricks by sophomores Molly Driscoll and Kylee Colbert, two breakout players this season that are a testament to the longevity of excellence that head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein is building at Boston College. They defeated the team that crushed them in the 2023 national championship game and took them down to the wire in the 2024 title game, proving that they were once again ready to compete to defend their title.

As always, the ACC was a juggernaut in women’s lacrosse this season. Seven of the top sixteen teams in the country play in the ACC, including new member #13 Stanford. But the Eagles are playing at such a high level that they basically just trounced through the competition anyway. Outside of their one-goal loss to UNC, the Boston College team has won all of their games against ACC competition by at least six goals, and usually by much more.

In just the past month, Boston College defeated #13 Stanford by eight goals, #7 Virginia by thirteen goals, and #16 Syracuse by fifteen goals. BC’s offense has been on an absolute tear and has too much talent for most opponents to handle.

Senior attacker Rachel Clark is the star of the show, averaging almost five goals per game, which is #2 in the nation. Her fellow senior Emma LoPinto has been a scoring machine herself, putting in 58 goals this season, good for #7 in the nation. These two have led Boston College’s offense to be the best in the nation, as the Eagles scored 26 more goals than any other team in the country this year (18+ per game).

The supporting cast on offense around Clark and LoPinto has been terrific, too, including great performances from longtime Eagle Mckenna Davis, Brown transfer Mia Mascone, and breakout sophomore talents, Molly Driscoll and Kylee Colbert, who all have dozens of goals each this season.

BC also leads the ACC in draw control percentage and has the #2 scoring defense in the conference, behind only UNC. The Eagles defense is definitely helped by the sheer amount of goals that they score and the draws that they win, but it also is led by a stalwart goalie in net, junior Shea Dolce. It seems like just yesterday that Dolce was a freshman phenom taking over the reigns so early in her collegiate career, but she’s come a long way since then.

After backstopping the national championship team last season and making that iconic kick save in the natty, Dolce has not slowed down. She is #1 in the nation in Save Percentage and #2 in the nation in Goals Against Average, behind only UNC’s Betty Nelson. Opponents don’t get lots of opportunities to shoot on net against Boston College, but when they do, Dolce is an elite shot-blocker.

Boston College is once again set up extremely well to make deep postseason runs in the 2025 ACC and NCAA tournaments. BC is excellent in all phases of the game and have proved themselves to be in a class above most of the country. They will still have plenty of adversity to face, though, with long-time enemies North Carolina and Northwestern ready to fight for a title themselves, among a few other contenders.

ACC Tournament Preview

First up in the bracket, BC will rematch against #7 Virginia, after the Eagles defeated the Cavaliers, 24-11, just a few weeks ago. Despite being ranked #7 in the nation, UVA is the 7-seed in the ACC tournament due to an early season loss versus Stanford and a recent one-goal loss to Syracuse.

In their first match-up against Virginia, BC took a commanding lead right away, scoring four unanswered goals (two from Rachel Clark) to open the first quarter. UVA managed to bring the score back within one goal midway through the second quarter, but then the Eagles scored seven more unanswered goals and never came close to being caught again. Virginia is a good draw control team and can put up big numbers on offense on any given day, but BC should still be a solid favorite in this one.

If BC makes it to the championship round, all signs point towards a rematch with undefeated #1 North Carolina. UNC has been a longtime foil for Acacia Walker-Weinstein’s teams ever since she got to Chestnut Hill and started competing for national championships. The Tarheels have won three national titles since 2013, including the 2022 title they won over BC. They’ve also faced off in plenty of ACC tournament games over the years, including when BC won their first ever conference championship in 2023.

UNC is back to dominant status after a very brief hiatus. From 2009 to 2022, North Carolina had not gone more than one year without making an NCAA Final Four. But after they missed out in both 2023 and 2024, the Tarheels are back in a serious way.

UNC is undefeated this season with wins over #2 BC, #3 Northwestern, #4 Florida, #7 Virginia, #8 Duke, #11 James Madison, #14 Clemson, and #16 Syracuse. They have the #1 scoring defense in the nation and the #2 scoring offense. Everything about this team is elite.

The Tarheels offense is led by sisters Ashley and Chloe Humphrey. Freshman Chloe leads the team in goals with 64 total (3rd in the nation), while older sister and grad student Ashley leads the team in points with 84 (5th in the nation). It’s a goal-scoring duo that’s almost on par with BC’s combination of Clark and LoPinto. And their supporting cast is just as impressive as BC’s, with several players up and down the roster that can make an impact.

On defense, UNC is even more impressive. Nobody in the nation stops goals better than the Tarheels. They clear the ball from the defensive zone at a top-3 rate nationally, while their goalie Betty Nelson has the 4th-highest save percentage in the country.

UNC held the high-powered BC offense to just 11 goals on April 5th, mostly snuffing out the Eagles two leaders with Clark and LoPinto scoring just four goals between them. BC only managed 18 total shots on goal in that game against two goalies, Nelson and Lexi Zenk. Dolce faced a similar number of shots on her side and saved about half of them, but she’s used to getting more help on the other end of the field. BC won the draw control battle, but the UNC defense repeatedly stifled them and forced several extra turnovers. It was an incredibly close game that could have gone either way, and I would expect a similar level of competitiveness if they face off again in the ACC title game.
