36.
 37.
Of course, this doesn’t mean I’m not going out on a meaty limb with some of them, but I definitely ditched neon spray paint for chalk.

 39.
Wisconsin will have a 10+ sack guy

 40.
 41.
It has been a fat minute since now Steeler (shocker!) Nick Herbig notched 11 sacks for the Badgers in 2022, and no Badger has even come close since.

 42.
 43.
That will change in 2025 in the form of portal edge Mason Reiger, who has turned heads and elicited gasps in fall camp with his dominant moves and speed.

 44.
 45.
Yes, staying healthy has been a challenge for Reiger, but if he does, a big season is in store that will help transform an entire defense’s fortunes.

 46.
 47.
Billy Edwards will be the best Badgers QB since Jack Coan

 48.
 49.
I freely concede that the quarterback bar at Wisconsin has not been particularly high since 2019, when Jack Coan had a steady, successful season for the Rose Bowl Badgers.

 50.
 51.
But BEJ, running Jeff Grimes’s new, diverse system is going to elevate the quarterback room to Coan’s level. Some will correctly note that this isn’t calling for a star turn season, and they’re correct.

 52.
 53.
But, I am expecting a nice TD/INT ratio, with chain-moving ability, and situational flashes with his feet, that will make the offense hum, if not dominate.

 54.
 55.
No, this won’t be 2011 Russell Wilson. The talent and pieces are not in place for that. But 2019 Jack Coan? I can see it.

 56.
 57.
The Badgers will upset Ohio State, Oregon, or Alabama

 58.
 59.
If you’re a believer in ESPN’s FPI, the geeky, numbers-based analysis that spits out college football odds, you might think this prediction is my boldest.

 60.
 61.
FPI gives Luke Fickell’s guys the following chances to secure wins: 19.1 percent vs Ohio State, 13.9 percent at Oregon, and 11.3 percent at Alabama. Those are pretty rough odds, kids.

 62.
 63.
But here I am predicting that Fick gets a signature win this fall in one of his three toughest games. The hows and whys are very much TBD, but I’m saying it’s going to happen.

 64.
 65.
Wisconsin Will Win 7+ Games

 66.
 67.
With an O/U famously set at 5.5 (and a ton of action on the under), not many people see Wisconsin getting bowl eligible in 2025, let alone winning seven.

 68.
 69.
Joel Klatt, hardly a clickbaity type, wondered aloud recently if Wisconsin could win three games in 2025. So, it’s safe to say not much is expected of the Badgers, given their consensus top-10 difficult schedule.

 70.
 71.
I’m bucking this trend to an extent, predicting that Wisconsin will win seven games this season, one of them being a bowl game.

 72.
 73.
To do this, it seems that most, if not al,l of the previous three predictions I just made will need to come to fruition. But that’s the beauty of late August–I’m here saying they will.

 97.
The Wisconsin Badgers are just days away from the season opener, as they’re set to take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks at Camp Randall Stadium on Thursday night, with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m.

 98.
 99.
As the Badgers transition with their new-look team, they have the odds stacked against them this year, with sportsbooks projecting them to win fewer than six games for the second-straight season.

 100.
 101.
But, Wisconsin will look to turn things around with its run-first offense under offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, bringing back three starters along the offensive line, as well as two freshmen running backs.

 102.
 103.
Defensively, the Badgers return cornerback Ricardo Hallman and have completely revamped their defensive line after sub-optimal results in 2024, both against the run and the pass.

 104.
 105.
With all the changes, does Wisconsin have a top-100 player in college football this season?

 106.
 107.
ESPN recently ranked its top 100 players heading into 2025, with stars like Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik near the top of the list.

 108.
 109.
Unfortunately, Wisconsin did not see any of its players crack the list. But, there were several Big Ten teams that had representatives.

 110.
 111.
Ohio State led the way at the top with Smith (No. 1), safety Caleb Downs (No. 3), linebacker Sonny Styles (No. 62), wide receiver Carnell Tate (No. 67), and tight end Max Klare (No. 75).

 112.
 113.
Penn State returns a number of key players, including running back Nicholas Singleton (No. 15), quarterback Drew Allar (No. 17), defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton (No. 26), running back Kaytron Allen (No. 34), defensive tackle Zane Durant (No. 72), offensive lineman Olaivavega Ioane (No. 74), and safety Zakee Wheatley (No. 85). So, they should be a contender once again

 114.
 115.
Indiana was also well represented with defensive end Mikail Kamara (No. 35), linebacker Aiden Fisher (No. 77), and wide receiver Elijah Sarratt (No. 78).

 116.
 117.
Oregon got a couple of key transfers that cracked the top 50, including safety Dillon Thieneman (No. 44) and running back Makhi Hughes (No. 30), to pair with star edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei (No. 20).

 118.
 119.
So, several of Wisconsin’s opponents will have marquee talent on their rosters, which creates both a challenge and an opportunity for the Badgers with their schedule this season.

 150.
 151.
The four-star is expected to join the Badgers next January as an early-enrollee, setting himself to compete early. Wisconsin hasn’t shied away from giving younger wideouts opportunities this offseason, as redshirt sophomore Trech Kekahuna is expected to start in the slot, while true freshman Eugene Hilton should have a role in the offense as well.

 177.
The Wisconsin Badgers came into the offseason with quite a bit of turnover, but one area where there was expected to be some strong continuity was the offensive line.

 178.
 179.
Wisconsin was returning left guard Joe Brunner, center Jake Renfro, and right tackle Riley Mahlman, with 2024 four-star Kevin Heywood expected to take over at left tackle after being in the two-deep and burning his redshirt last season.

 180.
 181.
That left the right guard spot as the main unknown heading into spring ball. Wisconsin had former four-star J.P. Benzschawel patiently waiting in the wings, rather than electing to transfer. But, 2024 four-star Emerson Mandell and senior Kerry Kodanko were also expected to provide some competition.

 182.
 183.
Benzschawel dealt with a foot injury that kept him out for much of spring ball, leaving Mandell and Kodanko to battle for much of the spring, although the former also had some injuries, limiting his reps at times.

 184.
 185.
With Heywood going down in the spring, Wisconsin added Davis Heinzen to replace him, but also needed some more tackle depth. So, Benzschawel naturally started to see more tackle reps with the second-team offense, opening up the right guard competition for Mandell to take.

 186.
 187.
Back in the spring, offensive line coach A.J. Blazek had heaps of praise for Mandell, calling him arguably the strongest and most explosive athlete in the room. It was just a matter of reps and getting the needed experience at the position.

 188.
 189.
Well, the Badgers feel confident in the redshirt freshman, who ran away with the starting right guard role in fall camp and is now slated to take over next Thursday when the Badgers host Miami (OH) to kick off the season.

 190.
 191.
What separated Mandell from the group during the fall?

 192.
 193.
“He’s a guy that I think we’ve all known has tremendous potential, and he missed a lot of time in the spring due to a high ankle sprain. One of those where he’s trying to go, but he’s just kind of hanging on. And so, I don’t think we got a real good evaluation of where he was at the time,” offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes acknowledged last week.

 194.
 195.
“As a young guy that hasn’t really played, and you have a new offense that has a lot of stuff, I just don’t think we really saw who he was at the time. And I think he’s done a good job really preparing himself for this fall. And now, he’s become a guy that is more reliable, knows what’s going on, and we still see that potential that he has. He’s one of those few guys that’s big enough, strong enough that he can just handle a big defensive tackle by himself, and there aren’t a whole lot of humans that can do that at this level. So we’re still seeing that from him, but now we’re seeing a guy that’s more consistent.”

 196.
 197.
Earlier in fall camp, Blazek continued to praise Mandell for his growth at the right guard spot, noting the consistency in addition to the natural traits.

 198.
 199.
“I think as a freshman, you’re just trying to drink through a fire hose, and this class of young guys, now, that’s what they’re going through. Super talented, but that’s what they’re going through,” Blazek said earlier in August. “At the end of the day, [what matters] is production. And so, that’s the biggest thing to see right now is if they produce, and [Mandell] is physical and strong, but you gotta make sure he keeps fitting that spot. He’s doing a hell of a job.”

 200.
 201.
Wisconsin is trying to balance the fine line of getting its younger guys in the action, while also keeping that coveted experience on the field. But, they’re in line to start multiple underclassmen this year on offense, including Mandell, either running back Darrion Dupree or Dilin Jones, and wide receiver Trech Kekahuna. Of course, Heywood would’ve joined that list, had he been healthy.

 202.
 203.
But, Wisconsin will get to see that sheer power and athleticism on hand when they begin their season next Thursday against Miami (OH), with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m.

 227.
The Wisconsin Badgers have a youth-filled running back room in 2025, electing not to make any additions after seeing lead back Tawee Walker depart for the Cincinnati Bearcats in the transfer portal this offseason.

 228.
 229.
Instead, they’ll turn to a group that is led by redshirt freshman Dilin Jones and sophomore Darrion Dupree, who were the prized recruits from their 2024 class, with the latter playing as the backup as a freshman.

 230.
 231.
Behind the duo, the Badgers have redshirt freshman Gideon Ituka and redshirt junior Cade Yacamelli to round the group out, going with a smaller number of scholarship backs this season as Jackson Acker converted to tight end.

 232.
 233.
With the group they currently have, how many backs are the Badgers expected to use in 2025?

 234.
 235.
“I think it’ll start off being three [backs in the rotation],” offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes shared last week. “All three of those guys have shown that they deserve roles, and will get opportunities. As we get closer to game planning, there will be certain plays that are designed for this guy or that guy.

 236.
 237.
“But, as you all know, you don’t go through a season, especially if you play this style of offense, with all those running backs healthy all the time. And so I suppose, at some point, we’ll be rotating two and then maybe get another one back, and we’ll just see where it goes from there. But, to start with, we’ll play all three.”

 238.
 239.
Those three are likely in reference to Jones, Dupree, and Yacamelli, although the split between the trio is somewhat unclear heading into the season.

 240.
 241.
Jones and Dupree are two of the potential breakout stars for the team in 2025, as both should see considerable volume in Wisconsin’s run-heavy offense. However, the Badgers did bring Yacamelli back with the promise of a bigger role after he was frozen out of the offense to end the 2024 season. So, he should also figure into the mix, potentially as a third-down back, given his pass protection and receiving skills out of the backfield.

 242.
 243.
Of course, Wisconsin went with a deeper rotation last season between Tawee Walker, Chez Mellusi, Yacamelli, and Dupree to start the year. But, head coach Luke Fickell switched the gameplan, wanting to allow some of the top backs more opportunities to get hot, which resulted in more reps for Walker and Dupree.

 244.
 245.
So, we’ll see if the Badgers shift to that again this offseason with Dupree and Jones, but injuries are always a factor at the running back position, so Wisconsin will need its room to stay active regardless.

 269.
The Wisconsin Badgers have been through quite a number of changes with their quarterback room, rehauling the group this offseason. They landed Maryland transfer Billy Edwards Jr., San Diego State transfer Danny O’Neil, Southern Illinois transfer Hunter Simmons, and 2025 four-star recruit Carter Smith.

 270.
 271.
Of course, with that many additions, there were also several transfers leaving the group. 2024 starter Tyler Van Dyke reunited with his former offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee at SMU. Braedyn Locke went to Arizona to back up Noah Fifita. Cole LaCrue transferred to Eastern Illinois. And Mabrey Mettauer followed former offensive coordinator Phil Longo to Sam Houston State.

 272.
 273.
Previous quarterbacks for the Badgers who have transferred in recent years elsewhere also include Nick Evers (UConn) and Myles Burkett (Albany, Eastern Kentucky).

 274.
 275.
Well, several former Badgers quarterbacks are currently trending to start in 2025 at their respective schools.

 276.
 277.
LaCrue has reportedly earned the starting job for Eastern Illinois ahead of their Week 1 matchup against Dayton after being in a three-way battle for fall camp. It’s a good sign for the redshirt sophomore, who faced multiple injuries during his time at Wisconsin and was buried on the depth chart.

 278.
 279.
Additionally, Burkett was named the starter at Eastern Kentucky after transferring there this fall. He was the starter at Albany last year, throwing for 1,840 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 2024.

 280.
 281.
And Mettauer is currently listed as one of the starters at quarterback for Sam Houston State heading into the season opener alongside incumbent starter Hunter Watson, with Longo expected to name a starter before the team’s Week 1 contest.

 282.
 283.
So, several former Badgers quarterbacks seem to be excelling at their current spots, potentially earning starting roles in 2025.

 307.
The Wisconsin Badgers are just one week from the start of the 2025 season, where they’ll take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks at Camp Randall Stadium in the season opener next Thursday.

 308.
 309.
As the Badgers near the start of the season, they’re still going through some injuries, most notably with starter Jake Renfro, who was considered week-to-week after suffering a lower-body injury midway through fall camp.

 310.
 311.
Renfro’s timeline is around the season opener, so it’s plausible he returns for Week 1, but an update will likely come next Monday when head coach Luke Fickell speaks to the media.

 312.
 313.
Renfro is set to be one of Wisconsin’s top players in 2025, as he was one of three players to represent the team at the Big Ten Media Days back in July. He’s one of four returning starters on the offensive side of the ball, joining fellow offensive linemen Joe Brunner and Riley Mahlman, as well as wide receiver Vinny Anthony.

 314.
 315.
Recently, Renfro was seen in high regard by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, who named him as a breakout candidate to watch in 2025.

 316.
 317.
“Renfro is a name some fans will recognize, especially those who have followed coach Luke Fickell’s career,” Rittenberg wrote. “A first-team All-AAC selection in 2021, Renfro started for the Cincinnati team coached by Fickell that became the first from the Group of 5 to reach the four-team College Football Playoff.

 318.
 319.
“But he sat out the 2022 season because of injury and then, after following Fickell to Wisconsin, only appeared in the ReliaQuest Bowl during the 2023 season. Renfro returned to the lineup last season, helping an offensive front that protected well against the pass. He enters this fall as one of the nation’s more experienced centers.”

 320.
 321.
Head coach Luke Fickell pointed to Renfro as a key cog of this new offense, where the Badgers are expected to have a more run-oriented approach.

 322.
 323.
“Jake is in a much different place than he was last year,” Fickell told ESPN. “That’s the core, the apex, of your offensive line. Healthwise and sizewise and leadershipwise is where he’s taken a big step. There’s three guys up front with our offensive line that give us the best opportunity with him and Riley Mahlman and Joe Brunner.”

 324.
 325.
But, in order to see that offense through from the start, they’ll hope that the center is available from Week 1 onwards, with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. next Thursday for the matchup against Miami (OH).

 349.
The Wisconsin Badgers are facing an unexpected situation heading into the 2025 season, as they still don’t know whether starting cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean will be able to play this year.

 350.
 351.
Fourqurean had initially gotten an injunction in his eligibility case that would’ve allowed him to play this upcoming season, prompting him to forego the draft and return to school for another year.

 352.
 353.
However, the NCAA won an appeal against Fourqurean, overturning the injunction and rendering him ineligible to play, leaving the cornerback in an unfavorable position. The cornerback had looked to argue his case once more, with a court date set for October.

 354.
 355.
But, he is making one last push to try and retain his eligibility earlier than that, filing an injunction with additional supporting evidence, which was the reason his initial injunction was overturned.

 356.
 357.
A part of that evidence is a signed declaration from head coach Luke Fickell, as well as his NIL agreement.

 358.
 359.
Currently, a court date for Fourqurean is set for October 20th. So, if the current ruling stands, he would not be eligible to return until at least Week 9, missing significant time during the season.

 360.
 361.
Fourqurean has been a part of Wisconsin’s Fall camp, rotating in with the starters as cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes sees fit. But, Wisconsin will have to figure out their situation without him if the current situation stands, which likely means more reps for redshirt freshman Omillio Agard and Miami transfer D’Yoni Hill opposite Ricardo Hallman.

 429.
Wisconsin gets its first challenge with the Crimson Tide during Week 3 before going on to a daunting conference schedule. The worst stretch comes in October, when Wisconsin faces Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, and Oregon in a stretch of four games.

 439.
Oregon will likely also go with an underclassman quarterback, as redshirt sophomore Dante Moore is expected to win the starting job, competing with sophomore Austin Novosad.

 440.
 441.
Additionally, Michigan is expected to go with five-star true freshman Bryce Underwood, with transfer Mikey Keene dealing with an injury in fall camp, limiting him from competing for the starting job.

 442.
