The Minnesota Timberwolves have pushed the Los Angeles Lakers to the brink of elimination. If the Wolves are going to finish off LA tonight, they’re going to need a great game out of their two young superstars.

You could make the case that no fan base in the NBA has carried around more emotional scar tissue than Timberwolves fans. We’re like that guy in a horror movie who keeps going back into the haunted house, fully aware of the trauma that waits inside. And yet—here we are again.

Tonight, Game 5, in the belly of the beast: Crypto.com Arena. Minnesota up 3–1 on the Los Angeles Lakers. One win away from finally tossing a flaming exclamation point on two decades of playoff trauma. And I don’t mean a “this would be nice” type of win. I mean the kind of win that rewrites narratives, torches legacies, and sends a clear message to every network exec and national pundit who’s been booking LeBron for the second round since February.

And if that wasn’t enough drama for you, let me sweeten the pot: FanDuel Sportsbook is offering the Wolves at +190 on the money line. I don’t know what games Vegas is watching, but apparently not the ones where Anthony Edwards has systematically turned the Lakers backcourt into a revolving door of broken ankles and confused expressions.

Now, before you start crafting your parlay, let’s get into the Wolves’ blueprint.

Let’s Talk Anthony Edwards

Let’s be honest—Ant hasn’t even gone full “Jordan shrug” yet in this series. But he’s still been that guy. Late in Game 3? Unstoppable. Game 4 fourth quarter? He carved up a fatigued Lakers defense like he was hosting the prime rib station at the team banquet.

Here’s the thing: if Minnesota wins tonight, there’s a high probability that it’s because Ant drops 30 or more. That’s the spark. That’s the alpha move. That’s what gets us through the noise, through the whistles, through LeBron doing his patented “How is that not a foul?” routine that could win an Emmy if submitted properly.

Jaden McDaniels: The X-Factor

Here’s the stat that should be burned into every Wolves fan’s brain tonight:

In Minnesota’s three wins, McDaniels has scored 25, 30, and 16.

In their one loss? Just 8.

That’s not just a pattern. That’s a neon sign that reads: When Jaden cooks, we win.

McDaniels has become the guy who thrives in the vacuum created by Ant’s gravitational pull. He’s slashing, he’s spotting up, he’s cleaning the glass and getting easy putbacks. But the most important part? He plays like someone who actually hates the Lakers. And you can’t put a price on that.

The Bet

So if you’re ready to go full “let’s raise the stakes” tonight, here’s the best value you’ll find:

Wolves money line (+190)

Anthony Edwards 30+ points

Jaden McDaniels 15+ points

That parlay clocks in at +636 on FanDuel. For the math majors: that’s a $10 bet paying out $63.60.

Do I think the Wolves can win this game without Ant going nuclear or Jaden dropping 15? Sure. Do I think it’s likely? Not really. If we’re closing this thing out tonight, it’s going to be because our guys—the ones we drafted, developed—step up and deliver.

Final Thoughts

The Lakers are backed into a corner, and you’d better believe the league office would love a Game 6. But this is where the Wolves can make their mark. Not just by winning—by closing. By showing that this team isn’t just a fun story, it’s a problem for the entire Western Conference.

If Ant does what we know he can, if McDaniels keeps riding this heater, and if the Wolves hold their composure in what’s sure to be a physical, high-drama road game... then we’re talking about Minnesota heading to the second round for just the third time in franchise history.

Place the bet. Turn up the volume. Embrace the moment.

Because tonight, the Wolves aren’t just trying to win a game. They’re trying to bury 20 years of ghosts.

And honestly? It feels like they just might do it.

The Lynx will have 30 regular season games aired on FanDuel Sports Network and will have a new — yet familiar — face taking over radio broadcasts in 2025.

With training camp underway for the Minnesota Lynx and the rest of the WNBA, we are nearing the start of preseason action in early May and the start of the 2025 regular season on May 16.

With that arrival, we have now learned where fans will be able to tune into watch or listen to the Lynx throughout the summer with Tuesday’s announcement of the Lynx 2025 Broadcast Schedule.

TV Broadcasts

Minnesota announced that FanDuel Sports Network will continue to carry local TV broadcasts in 2025, airing 30 regular season games and both preseason games (for the first time ever). The Lynx will also make 21 appearances on national TV across WNBA broadcast partners.

“As we enter into another year of our partnership with FanDuel Sports Network, we are thrilled to see added coverage of the Lynx preseason and regular season games,” Timberwolves and Lynx Chief Operating Officer Ryan Tanke said via a statement issued by the team.

“As women’s sports, and especially women’s basketball, continues to experience momentous growth, we are proud to further expand and engage with fans through our programming,” Tanke continued. “The increased coverage is a testament to the accelerating demand for Lynx basketball.”

The FanDuel Sports Network broadcasts will once again be spearheaded by the talented duo of Marney Gellner and Lea B. Olsen as fans have been used to tuning into. Gellner will resume play-by-play duties for her 15th season, while Olsen will return for her 17th season as analyst.

Radio Broadcasts

Along with TV, the Lynx will return to the airwaves for all 44 regular season games in 2025 with a new — yet familiar — face serving as the voice of the Lynx.

Minnesota will have every game broadcast on the organization’s flagship radio station, KFAN FM 100.3, with all games exclusively streaming on the iHeartRadio App and the Lynx App.

As for who fans will hear on the broadcasts, that will be Sloane Martin, who was on the Lynx TV broadcasts in 2024. Martin steps in as radio play-by-play announcer in her seventh overall season with the Lynx and returns to the booth for the first time since 2019.

Martin has extensive experience in the broadcast industry, assisting with broadcast coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics as well as collegiate women’s basketball as part of the Big Ten Network, Fox, FS1 and Peacock.

“We are truly excited to welcome Sloane back to Lynx Radio this season,” Lynx President of Business Operations Carley Knox said via a statement. “She brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and passion for the Lynx, as well as the WNBA. We are incredibly lucky to have Sloane be the voice of the Lynx for our 2025 season.”

The Lynx tip off the preseason on May 6, taking on the Chicago Sky in both preseason contests on May 6 and May 10. The regular season will begin for Minnesota on May 16 with a season-opening showdown against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings in Texas.

Game 5 Preview: Timberwolves at Lakers - This One Is Personal

As the Wolves head to Crypto.com Arena with a 3-1 series lead, they have the opportunity to vanquish the ghosts of Minnesota’s past. Can Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Julius Randle rise to the occasion to finish off the Lakers once and for all?

Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers - Game 5
Date: April 30th, 2025
Time: 9:00 PM CDT
Location: Crypto.com Arena
Television Coverage: TNT/TruTV/MAX/FanDuel Sports Network North
Radio Coverage: KFAN FM/Wolves App/iHeart Radio

There are playoff games you live through.

And then there are playoff games that live in you.

If you’ve been a Timberwolves fan for the past 22 years, you know exactly which side of history Game 5 against the Lakers falls on.

This one?

This one is personal.

You have to go all the way back to 2003 to truly appreciate the gravity of what’s at stake tonight.

I was a 20-year-old college junior, living and dying with every Timberwolves possession. After six straight seasons of first-round heartbreaks — dragged off the floor by teams better, deeper, or just plain luckier — we finally, finally had a real shot.

Home court advantage? Check.

MVP-caliber Kevin Garnett? Check.

Troy Hudson temporarily transforming into the second coming of Reggie Miller? Absolutely check.

We went up 2-1 on the Shaq-Kobe Lakers, the basketball Death Star of the early 2000s, and it felt like the curse was finally lifting. And then... we ran into the buzzsaw.

Shaq turned into Godzilla. Kobe started hitting those dead-eyed, soul-crushing daggers. Our thin bench collapsed. KG was left trying to carry a roster full of “Wait, he’s still in the league?” guys.

Series over. Wolves sent packing. Heartbreak Level: 9/10.

2004?

We leveled up. The Big Three — KG, Sam Cassell, Latrell Sprewell — finally took Minnesota to the heights we always believed possible.

Beat Denver for the first series win in franchise history.

Beat Sacramento in a bloodbath Game 7 at Target Center (you know the one — KG on the scorer’s table, towel waving, the closest thing Minneapolis has ever had to a basketball coronation).

This was supposed to be it. Our ticket to the NBA Finals. And then, once again, the Lakers showed up like the final boss that never dies. This time Shaq and Kobe brought Karl Malone and Gary Payton with them — a Hail Mary superteam, hobbling through injuries and dysfunction.

But it didn’t matter.

Cassell hurt his hip. KG was forced to play point guard. We lost Game 6 at Staples Center. Another dream murdered at the hands of Los Angeles.

Heartbreak Level: 10/10.

Fast-forward twenty years to 2024.

New era. New hope.

Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert pulled off one of the greatest playoff runs in Wolves history — sweeping Phoenix, and toppling the defending champs on Denver’s floor in a Game 7 comeback for the ages.

It was supposed to be the arrival moment. The validation after 20 years of wandering through NBA purgatory.

And then Luka Dončić ripped our hearts out.

Two straight gut-wrenching losses at home, punctuated by Luka dragging Rudy out to the perimeter and humiliating him on the game-winner heard ‘round the world.

Another dream dead.

Heartbreak Level: 11/10.

And now — finally — here we are.

Wolves up 3-1 on the Lakers.

Target Center still shaking from Game 4.

Luka and LeBron staggering toward the finish line.

The national media clinging to their tired narratives about the “grit” of the Lakers instead of acknowledging what’s actually happening:

The Wolves are better. Period.

Win tomorrow night, and Anthony Edwards will have personally sent Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, and Luka Doncic home in the span of 12 months.

Win tomorrow night, and 22 years of Wolves playoff trauma gets burned to the ground in the best way imaginable — on their floor, with their fans booing and streaming for the exits.

Win tomorrow night, and we finally start writing new history instead of living under the weight of the old.

Keys to Game 5

This isn’t just about surviving. It’s about finishing.

You don’t let Jason Voorhees get back up.

You don’t let Michael Myers crawl off the stretcher.

You drive the stake all the way through.

Here’s how it has to happen:

1. Anthony Edwards: Be The Superstar

The final 4 minutes of Game 3.

The fourth quarter of Game 4.

That’s the Anthony Edwards that can win you a championship.

Not future superstar. Not “one day he’ll be great.”

Right now. Right here.

What we’ve seen is Edwards thriving exactly when the Lakers — and LeBron, and Luka — are at their most desperate. He’s not just scoring. He’s controlling the game like he’s playing chess, two moves ahead of everyone else.

And there’s a clear formula: When Ant is in constant attack mode — getting to the rim, getting to the line, forcing the Lakers to scramble — the Wolves are unstoppable.

It’s not about dropping 44 points (though hey, nobody’s complaining).

It’s about pace. Pressure. Relentlessness.

Keep the foot on their throats.

2. Jaden McDaniels: Two-Way Killer

Let’s keep it real:

In the Wolves’ Game 1 win: McDaniels dropped 25 points.

In the Game 3 comeback: 30 points — led the team.

In Game 4: A strong 16 points — critical buckets when the Lakers made their push.

In the only Wolves loss? He had just 8 points. Not a coincidence. When McDaniels is aggressive offensively, the floor opens up for everybody.

And defensively? He’s been the only guy who can even sort of keep Luka from completely burning the house down.

This is a two-way series for McDaniels. If he keeps attacking — hitting corner threes, cutting, finishing at the rim — Minnesota’s offense hums at another level. McDaniels doesn’t have to play out of his mind tonight. But he has to play confident. Attack, attack, attack.

3. Julius Randle: Stay Controlled, Stay Aggressive

Randall was massive early in Game 4 — physically overwhelming Lakers defenders, bullying them into the paint, and giving Ant the breathing room to attack. But the most important thing?

He didn’t force it.

No iso-heavy black hole. No bad shots early in the shot clock. Just good, physical, in-flow basketball. That’s the version of Julius Randle that gives the Wolves their “Plan B” if Ant gets double-teamed at halfcourt.

Randle doesn’t have to be a superhero. He just has to stay within himself — power to the rim, crash the glass, kick out when needed.

Simple. Efficient. Devastating.

4. Rudy Gobert: Own the Paint

Let’s be real — Rudy has been good defensively this series.

Stripping Luka.

Controlling the rim.

Switching better than expected.

But where the Wolves really need Rudy in Game 5 is on the glass and in the putback game. There were too many missed rebounds in Games 3 and 4 that gave the Lakers second (and third) chances. Rudy doesn’t have to score 20 points. But he can’t let Jarred Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura feast on loose boards and swing momentum.

Secure the rebounds. Be the hammer defensively.

Make the Lakers feel it every time they drive.

5. Hit The Open Threes

This isn’t rocket science. In Game 1, the Wolves were 21-for-42 from deep. Absolute flamethrower mode.

Since then? A little spottier.

Open threes from guys like Naz Reid, Mike Conley, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Donte DiVincenzo — they have to fall.

You know the refs are gonna do everything they can to get the Lakers into the bonus by the second quarter. You can’t rely on foul calls. You have to make shots.

Hit your threes, open up a lead that’s too big for them to screw you out of, and leave Crypto.com silent and awaiting the inevitable as the fourth quarter rolls around.

Final Thought

This isn’t just another Game 5.

This is two decades of heartbreak on the line.

This is Kevin Garnett’s ghost screaming from the scorer’s table.

This is the end of a Lakers dynasty that’s tormented us longer than most Wolves fans have been alive.

End the chapter.

Close the book.

Bury the demons.

This is the night the Minnesota Timberwolves stop being the underdog story and become the nightmare.

Let’s go. Wolves in five.

The Lynx opened up training camp April 27, the first day of preparations towards the upcoming WNBA season which tips off May 16.

The 2025 WNBA season is upon us, with the new year officially beginning Sunday with the start of training camp across the league.

For the Minnesota Lynx, around 20 players took the court at the team’s practice facility at The Courts at Mayo Clinic Square on Sunday afternoon, practicing together for the first time in organized team activities.

After coming up one game short of a WNBA title in 2024, Minnesota has retooled its roster in hopes of not only returning to the Finals, but achieving the ultimate goal by the end of the year. And that journey begins on day one of training camp, as it did a season ago.

“Our starting place is different than last year, in that this group formed its identity throughout training camp. We know our identity (this year), so our starting place is obviously accelerated,” Cheryl Reeve said after practice Sunday. “But now, where can we go to be even better? We can’t be exactly the same as we were last year, it’s not going to work.”

The Lynx are returning most of its roster from the Finals team in 2024, but have added a few new faces to the team to add to the depth and versatility of the squad. The only thing is, that will make for a very competitive camp that will result in some tough decisions for Reeve and the Lynx coaching staff.

Entering camp, here is the look at the full roster:

With the start of the new season, it also gives the Lynx an opportunity to finally put the 2024 season behind them and the heartbreak that unfolded against the New York Liberty in the WNBA Finals.

“It’s over. We don’t agree with the outcome, but it doesn’t matter. You can sit there and wine about it or you can say we will use it as fuel,” Reeve said. “What that means for each person is different. ... They are each going to handle it differently. For me, I know every journey is so different. I’m not even thinking about getting back to the Finals. We’re in training camp, we’re trying to be successful in winning drills and play how we want to play. The other stuff takes care of itself.”

Minnesota knows this team is different, this season is different and there’s nothing it can do to change the outcome of 2024. But that doesn’t mean the Lynx won’t use that heartbreak as fuel to hopefully break beyond that point in 2025.

“(The end to last season) is a feeling you don’t ever want to feel again. So just making sure we’re coming in every day, starting today, with good energy,” Napheesa Collier said Sunday. “The coaching staff was talking about how they lost in that heartbreaker in 2016 and used that to fuel them in 2017. That’s the story we want to have for this year.”

A 14-0 Laker run almost spelled doom for the Wolves, but they fought all game and got the win to secure a 3-1 series lead.

On Friday, the Target Center crowd was electric, drawing praise from both players and coaches. On Sunday, they brought it to another level for Game 4 of the series between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The opening quarter and a half of the game was a bit of a struggle offensively for the Wolves as they were unable to consistently make shots from both beyond the arc and in the paint. As has been the case the entire series, the Timberwolves' defense kept them in the game during the rough offensive stretch.

With the Lakers up eight late in the second quarter, Anthony Edwards began to drag the Wolves' offense out of the doldrums by driving to the lane, dishing to teammates, and finishing around the basket.

Anthony Edwards nasty driving finish through contact pic.twitter.com/IKVZKEUrVC
— Timberwolves Clips (@WolvesClips) April 27, 2025

After trailing almost the entire first half, Minnesota took its first lead since the score was 5-2 on a pair of Edwards free throws with 1:28 remaining in the first half. It was an impressive stretch from the young superstar who, while playing well most of the series, had yet to have a truly dominant stretch.

The crowd reached its zenith right before the end of the second quarter when Julius Randle hit a stepback 3-pointer over Luka Dončić to give the Wolves a 61-58 halftime lead.

Coming out of the halftime locker room, the Wolves' energy and execution were absolutely dreadful. The ball movement that got them back in the game disappeared, and the defensive rotations were a step slow, leading to a 14-0 Laker run, giving them their largest lead of the game at 11.

With the game on the brink of slipping away, the Wolves put together a 9-0 run to cut the lead back to two. Edwards had four of the points, with the other five coming off of offensive rebounds.

Just as it seemed like the Wolves were regaining momentum in the game, Dončić took control of the game, making tough shots and creating wide-open 3-pointers for his teammates. The Wolves' defense eventually found its footing again, but not before the Lakers built a nine-point lead heading into clutch time in the fourth quarter.

With the Wolves needing offense, Chris Finch elected to bring Naz Reid back into the game. That decision immediately paid dividends as Naz scored five straight points to get the Wolves right back into the game.

The insanity of this game had only gotten started as the Wolves were able to build a four-point lead after a Donte DiVincenzo cutting and-1 layup. The Lakers would immediately respond with back-to-back 3-pointers from Austin Reaves and Dorian Finney-Smith to take a two-point lead with a minute left.

On the next possession, Edwards made the correct decision to pass the ball out of a double-team. The ball eventually found Jaden McDaniels, who slammed the ball home and hit the subsequent free throw to take the lead.

After a stop and a pair of Edwards free throws to put the Timberwolves up three with less than ten seconds left, the Lakers decided not to call a timeout and found Reaves wide open in the corner. With every fan’s heart in their throat, the 3-pointer bounced off the rim.

The Timberwolves won Game 4 by a final score of 116-113. Edwards was utterly sensational, scoring 43 points, including 14 free throws. Dončić was equally amazing, scoring 38 points while generating a ton of good shots for teammates.

Key Takeaways

1. Chris Finch won the game with the decision to play Naz Reid down the stretch and close the game with him instead of Rudy Gobert. Gobert pulled down 10 rebounds, but had a rough day offensively and missed plenty of gimmes around the rim. That doesn’t go without tipping the cap to Finch. Reid was just as bad at that point, if not a worse game than Rudy.

Not only was he in foul trouble, but he was also having a hard time finishing at the basket and wasn’t seeing his shot fall. Heading into the fourth, Reid was 1-3 with four points and having a rough night defensively. But the trust was there, and he went on to have eight fourth-quarter points on 3-4 shooting, including the above clutch 3-pointer.

“I told [Naz], feel free to show up in the first three [quarters] anytime you like,” Finch joked after the game. “He was there when we needed him both offensively and defensively...timely baskets for sure.”

The Lakers sprung a few leaks in the Wolves’ defense late in the game, and it was pretty clear that offense was needed to wear down a team that made zero substitutions in the second half. Enter Naz.

“We went to him a couple times in a row...you just have to get him activated sometimes,” Finch said. “With the way they were switching, I thought he could get a matchup that he could take.”

Naz Reid in the 4Q this series:

26 PTS
9-10 FG
6-6 3P

Clutch. pic.twitter.com/xr2xslxK88
— StatMuse (@statmuse) April 27, 2025

It’s a bit of an evolution for Reid. Someone who scores in avalanches and can tend to be inconsistent at times, he has his signature 20+ point games in which everything seems to go in. That wasn’t the case tonight, and even though he strayed away from his typical pattern of scoring, he was essential in taking game four.

“[I stayed] with it, which is something I’ve been able to do throughout my career,” he said at the podium afterward. “This is one of the biggest moments of my career, and I’m just trying to grow and navigate as it goes on.”

2. The Anthony Edwards game was coming. We all knew it, and we got it on Sunday afternoon.

Heading into Sunday, Edwards had yet to crack 30 points in the series and was struggling to finish near the rim, and especially through contact. Much of that changed during the nationally televised matinee on Sunday. Ant finished with 43 points and carried the Wolves down the stretch in the fourth quarter, not caring who was guarding him or how many bodies were in front of him.

“He just took over in the second half,” Finch said. “Ant’s a special player and he had a special night...he and Julius had it going all night.”

The closing stretch has been a bugaboo for the Wolves all season long. Plagued by hero ball and contested shots when they aren’t needed, it’s been a spot in games that the 23-year-old has specifically struggled to find rhythm in all year long. Now successfully closing out two straight games, Edwards had no issues posting his 16 fourth-quarter points on an efficient 4-7 from the field, also drawing the game-sealing foul on LeBron James.

“Anytime I get open, shoot it,” Edwards said, elaborating on his mentality heading into the final frame. “I feel like we took their best punches throughout the game...I felt like they were gassed going down the stretch, and I tried to keep my foot on the pedal and keep going.”

Perhaps the best part of it all is Edwards’ 23 assists to 6 turnovers throughout the whole series, showing a much-improved ability to read defense and distribute the basketball without putting his team in jeopardy, something he’s struggled with at times this season and especially in the Western Conference Finals last season against Luka Doncic and Dallas.

“When the playoffs come around, you get a little more time to settle down,” he said in explaining his ability to improve that side of the game.

Edwards will have the ability to be a hero once again and close the series out in LA, perhaps having a couple more moments with LeBron similar to what he did with Kevin Durant last season.

The Timberwolves and Lakers will clash in Game 4 of their first-round series on Sunday afternoon. We list our top prop bets for the epic battle at Target Center

It’s Sunday afternoon in Minnesota. You know what that means? It’s Timberwolves time. And not just “hey, we made the playoffs” Wolves. No. This is real Timberwolves basketball. Like, “actual contender” Timberwolves basketball.

Today, our beloved Wolves get a chance to do what no Minnesota team has done, ever: stomp the Lakers into the hardwood and take a commanding 3–1 series lead. Target Center is going to sound like a Metallica concert inside a washing machine. The stakes have never been higher.

And if you’re a sicko like me (read: a normal sports fan), you’re also thinking: Hey, can I make this even MORE stressful by putting a little cash on it? Good news: FanDuel’s No Sweat Same Game Parlay is your ticket. You place a parlay. If it wins, you’re a genius. If it loses, you get bonus bets and pretend you knew it wouldn’t hit anyway. Details are below, but first—let’s set the board for Game 4.

Wolves Favored, But Undervalued?

The Wolves are coming in today as modest favorites — -3.5 points, -154 on the moneyline. That’s a little bit like pricing a Tesla at $18,000 because it might rain. Are the Lakers still dangerous with LeBron and Luka Doncic? Absolutely. But the Wolves have younger legs, more depth, and frankly, more fire right now.

The big story from Game 3 was Minnesota’s endurance. The Lakers looked like they were playing in cement shoes by the fourth quarter. You think two days is enough to fix that? Please. LeBron can ice-bath himself into a coma and he’s still waking up sore today.

Fatigue matters. Depth matters. Youth matters. Minnesota has all three. This is the moment to step on the throat, win Game 4, and send Lakers Nation into full “Skip Bayless meltdown mode” by Monday morning.

Player Props That Make Too Much Sense

Anthony Edwards 30+ Points, 5+ Threes, and Wolves Moneyline (+308)

Ant closed Game 3 like a superhero landing.

He hasn’t had his “I’m Him” game yet this series, and we’re due.

If he drops 30+ points and hits five threes, you think we aren’t getting a Wolves W?

Jaden McDaniels 20+ Points (+420) — Best Bet of the Day

McDaniels has been absolutely cooking in the Wolves’ two wins (30 and 25 points).

He’s Minnesota’s secret weapon: too quick for forwards, too long for guards.

If he hits 20+ again (which he’s done 2 of 3 games), you’re swimming in value.

Add Wolves ML? You bump it to +539. Yes, please.

McDaniels 20+ Points + Wolves -3.5 Cover (+657)

This is a high-variance play, but if the Wolves win, there’s a 90% chance Jaden’s fingerprints are all over it.

Feels like the Vegas guys are still undervaluing how McDaniels’ offense tilts everything for the Wolves.

If You Like Combo Packs:

(Some Best Friend Parlays)

Ant Edwards 33.5+ Combined Points + Assists (-112)

Ant’s going to be creating today, whether it’s scoring himself or bending the defense to set up Naz/Jaden/NAW.

Game 4 Preview: A chance to take control

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a 2-1 series lead over the Los Angeles Lakers. Yes, the same Lakers team that media pundits universally picked to beat the Timberwolves. Timberwolves fans were told the Lakers would have too much shot creation to keep pace, or that we stood little chance in clutch time against players like LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

Well, the Lakers may have Luka Doncic, but the Timberwolves have Jaden McDaniels.

McDaniels’ 30-point night ignited the Target Center, whose timely contributions buoyed the Timberwolves against LeBron James, who played as if he had spent the previous night bathing in the fountain of youth. Maybe he’ll share the whereabouts, but it matters little in the end. Minnesota exercised their clutch time demons, slamming the door shut on the tired Lakers with a 13-1 run to take game 3. Not bad for a team that wasn’t supposed to survive the clutch against the onslaught of Laker shot creators.

The Timberwolves have seized momentum in this series and look to establish a 3-1 stranglehold Sunday. After all the talk about Luka and LeBron, it’s Minnesota stealing the spotlight, led by their high-flying superstar Anthony Edwards on a quest to disrupt the narrative. To be the best, you have to beat the best.

Last postseason, Anthony Edwards sent his childhood idol Kevin Durant home empty-handed, and then bested the current best player in the world, Nikola Jokic, in an epic 7 game clash. Now, Edwards has a chance to establish himself as the league's premier GOAT hunter, with an opportunity to not only get revenge on Luka but knock off the King himself.

It’s all in front of Minnesota now, so what needs to happen to take game 4? Let's dive in!

Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images

Can Edwards stay sharp?

Game 3 started slowly for Edwards, missing several layups and point-blank floaters. As LA punched Minnesota in the mouth in the 2nd quarter, you began to wonder when Edwards would come to the party. Boy, did he ever come to the party.

Anthony Edwards steal + monster dunk WOW pic.twitter.com/dOSdt0LcS8
— Timberwolves Clips (@WolvesClips) April 26, 2025

As the game progressed, the 23-year-old superstar seized his moment, culminating in manufacturing a 13-1 run in clutch time to escape a 103-103 deadlock with a win on home court. Edwards did it with his explosiveness on the drive, shooting from deep, and making the right reads when the defense collapsed. This is the Anthony Edwards that can make anything possible for Minnesota.

Edwards needs to play decisive basketball and penetrate the defense.

Jaden McDaniels is a matchup problem

What Jaden McDaniels has done in this series has been nothing short of remarkable. Not only is the 24-year-old two-way monster averaging 21 points per contest, but he’s also taken on the challenge of guarding Luka Doncic.

With LA’s lack of valid point of attack defenders, their defensive strategy has essentially been sitting in the gaps and clogging the floor to stop Edwards. With Randle also receiving significant attention, the Lakers have frequently resorted to ‘hiding’ Luka Doncic on Jaden McDaniels. When Jaxon Hayes sits, nobody on LA can match Jaden’s size, and the 6’11” wing has imposed his will on the series. Ferociously taking it to Luka Doncic on both ends of the court as he barrels his way to premium offensive spots.

Jaden McDaniels 30 points on 13/22 pic.twitter.com/qcXMQeDewN
— Brett Usher (@UsherNBA) April 26, 2025

With Luka as the primary defender, Jaden McDaniels has shot 63.2% from the floor. The Lakers do not have a matchup for Jaden if they want to key in on Anthony Edwards. Minnesota must continue to abuse this mismatch and lean into Jaden’s newfound aggressiveness.

Can Rudy Gobert settle into the series?

It’s truly a tragedy. In a series that Rudy Gobert has exonerated himself as a perimeter defender, he’s solidified his reputation as someone you can play off the court.

Rudy has been nothing short of extraordinary on the defensive end. Still, Minnesota desperately needs their 7’1” behemoth to establish himself both on the glass and on the offensive side of the court. Through three games, Rudy Gobert has 9 points and 15 rebounds total. That’s not going to cut it, and while the Lakers have done an exemplary job of gang rebounding and getting physical with Gobert, Rudy needs to utilize his size to establish control of the glass.

Rudy has frequently found himself wide open out of pick-and-roll sets, and while you want the ball in Anthony Edwards’ hands, it wouldn't hurt to throw the Frenchman a bone to settle him into the series.

You need more from Gobert, and if you can achieve control of the boards, the Lakers will have a mountain to climb to come away with a win.

Can Minnesota’s “others” make an impact

Minnesota’s bench trio of Naz Reid, Donte DiVincenzo, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker has had a roller coaster of a series. To close the game, Naz Reid came up huge in clutch with a crucial make from deep, and you need to see more of it from this bench trio. The Lakers cannot match Minnesota’s depth, but outside of Game 1, the trio hasn’t truly flexed their advantage.

Each has had their moments in the series, but the lack of consistency has allowed the Lakers to keep pace with Minnesota while Luka Doncic sits. If the trio can begin finding a consistent rhythm, the lineup's versatility for Minnesota will continue to give the Lakers problems; their roster isn’t designed to solve them.

Game 4 is a short turnaround, and Minnesota needs to capitalize

A mere 35 hours after the conclusion of game 3, the two embattled franchises will clash yet again on short rest. Luka Doncic was under the weather in game 3, and with LeBron James on the other side of 40, a short turnaround feels favorable for the younger and deeper Timberwolves roster.

Minnesota needs to rally around the energy of its raucous arena and take it to the Lakers. Minnesota needs to continue wearing down its opponent with physicality and defense. On short rest, Anthony Edwards needs to capitalize on any Lakers mistakes to elevate his team.

Closing thoughts

This series is starting to feel like it is Minnesota against itself. They have mismatches they can take advantage of up and down the roster, while the Lakers resort to shot-making from their trio of playmakers. The Defense has been incredible from Minnesota all series, but the onus is on the Timberwolves to execute offensively.

The Timberwolves have to continue to put Luka in every action and penetrate the defense. You cannot settle for jumpshots when Luka or Austin Reaves is defending on the perimeter; you have to penetrate the defense and find the open man. If Minnesota executes, they will put an enormous burden on Luka Doncic and LeBron James to produce offense.

Let’s disrupt the narrative.

With Game 4 scheduled for Sunday afternoon, Wolves fans will get to soak in the slate of Saturday games stress-free. Why not add a No Sweat Same-Game-Parlay into the mix to make things a bit more interesting?

NBA Playoffs Saturday Slate: Betting the Board While the Wolves Rest Up

It’s the second weekend of the NBA playoffs, the Wolves aren’t playing today, and you can already feel the antsy energy building around Minnesota. Game 4 against the Lakers looms tomorrow, but in the meantime, we’ve got four games today, a wallet full of FanDuel bonus bets, and nothing but time.

So why not lean in?

This Saturday is basically a smorgasbord of playoff hoops, weird injury reports, and spreads that feel just a little bit suspicious if you’ve been paying attention. Plus, with FanDuel’s No Sweat Same Game Parlay promo running every weekend during the playoffs, it’s basically the NBA gambling version of a “free roll”—you build a parlay, if it hits, you’re a genius; if it misses, you get bonus bets back and pretend you totally meant to lose for the vibes.

(You’ll find the details below, but trust me, it’s basically the sports betting equivalent of a participation trophy… and I mean that in a good way.)

Let’s dive into today’s slate and see where the value might be hiding.

Cavaliers (-5.5) at Heat - 1:00 PM ET

Cleveland is up 2-0. They’ve basically treated Miami like how I treat a vegan lasagna at a dinner party—politely enduring it, but ultimately dominating it by sheer willpower. The Cavs have beaten Miami by an average of 21 and 9 points in the first two games, and now the series shifts to South Beach where, in theory, the Heat are supposed to make their stand.

My move: If you’re feeling frisky, take Miami +5.5 and bank on Spoelstra to squeeze one great performance out of a flawed team. If you’re feeling sane, just lay the points with the Cavs and sip a mimosa while they methodically strangle the Heat’s offense into submission.

Thunder (-15.5) at Grizzlies - 3:30 PM ET

Oklahoma City has handled Memphis the way your older brother handled you in backyard basketball growing up—by dunking ruthlessly and calling all the fouls.

The Thunder won Game 1 by a billion (roughly), but Games 2 and 3 became increasingly scrappy. Memphis hung around and made OKC work. Now OKC is laying 15.5 points in Game 4...

My move: Memphis +15.5. Even if they lose, they’re prideful enough (and OKC young enough) that the Grizz should stay within two touchdowns. Plus, never underestimate the power of the classic “don’t get swept” desperation game.

Nuggets at Clippers (-6.5) - 6:00 PM ET

This is where it gets fun. The Clippers finally played like the team Steve Ballmer thinks they are—smothering Denver into a Game 3 beatdown.

Jokic looks tired. Like, “I’ve been carrying two guys who should be 8th men on playoff teams for six months” tired. Meanwhile, the Clippers are deep, scary, and finally (somehow) healthy.

My move: Clippers -6.5. I’m betting on Kawhi’s Terminator impression and Denver’s lack of gas. If the Nuggets pull a rabbit out of the hat here, God bless them, but this feels like L.A.’s series to lose now.

Warriors (-3.5) vs. Rockets - 8:30 PM ET

You know how every postseason there’s one series that just feels meaner than the rest? Welcome to Warriors-Rockets 2025.

Jimmy Butler has a pelvic contusion, which sounds terrible and also like the name of a rejected Pearl Jam album. If he’s limited—and I can’t imagine he’s at full strength—the Warriors are going to have a real problem containing Houston’s bruising style.

Golden State has looked creaky. Meanwhile, the Rockets are young, angry, and might just be dumb enough to think they can bully the Warriors off their own floor.

My move: Rockets +3.5. Even if Jimmy isn’t 100%, Houston’s energy and nastiness might be enough to tilt this thing their way.

Look, the Wolves don’t play until tomorrow. Which means today is the NBA version of stealing cookies before dinner. You’re not supposed to... but who’s going to stop you?

Fire up the FanDuel app, toss a few fun bets in, soak in a full day of basketball, and get ready for Game 4 on Sunday!
