94.

 95.
The 3rd annual Afro-Carib festival was definitely an event to remember. An absolutely grand occasion to showcase some of the hottest artists of African and Afro-diasporic music. Everything from afrobeats to reggae to reggaeton was in the building. In addition to music, the event also featured a wide array of local food vendors as well as artisans and craftsmen. Thus setting the tone for an evening of good food, camaraderie and entertainment. Located at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater in Miramar, Florida the event featured a star-studded lineup including Afrobeats Superstar "Tekno", Jamaican reggae sensation "Koffee" and many more.

 96.

 97. Upon entering the festival you are immediately captivated by the sound of the live music and mesmerized by the plethora of smells permeating from the many food trucks showcasing cuisine from all over the African diaspora. As you proceed further into the festivities you are bombarded by the immense selection of different food vendors, local Craftsmen and artisans. Virtually every African or Afro-diasporic country was in attendance. So much so that it takes a few moments of contemplation and deliberation to decide on which vendor to pay a visit to first.

 98.

 99. One food vendor in particular that caught our attention was the Kingston Delight food truck, a local business serving the South Florida area. The irresistible aroma of their jerk chicken, curry goat and chicken soup in particular drew us in. We were blessed with the opportunity to enter their workshop and see some of what they were cooking. Tender, juicy jerk marinated chicken was being prepared in their smoker as well as a big pot of chicken soup simmering in the background. They featured many other tantalizing delicacies such as flaky beef patties and Jamaican festival. Upon meeting the owner, Donovan, we were fortunate enough to meet his staff and see some of the cooking action live. The food was absolutely incredible, well seasoned and well prepared. Donovan and his crew at Kingston Delight really knew how to showcase Jamaican cuisine to the highest of heights. Definitely a must visit food truck for anyone visiting the South Florida area.

 101. After our visit to Kingston delight we decided to top everything off with a bit of dessert. We stopped at Cleveland's Old Fashioned Ice Cream shop. Upon seeing the long line of patrons eagerly awaiting their own scoop of creamy goodness, we knew this was the perfect place to satisfy our sweet tooth. During a brief conversation with the owner, Cleveland, we learned that all of his products are made 100% from scratch. He offers an extensive variety of flavors such as rum and raisin, grape nut, dragon stout and vegan caramel ice cream just to name a few. He's been making ice cream for about 4 decades now and about 3 years ago decided to take a leap of faith and go into the ice cream business on his own. He opened his first physical location at 6933 Miramar Parkway in Miramar, FL. Every year he continues to innovate and further develop his craft. Even creating new flavors such as "bun and cheese" ice cream. We tried some of his products ourselves and they definitely did not disappoint. Rich, creamy and decadent would be understatements. Even his vegan offerings were full of flavor and sweetness to the point where you could not tell that they were dairy-free. Cleveland's Old fashioned ice cream shop is an amazing business run by an amazing man with an incredible story. A perfect place to take the family out to indulge in delicious treats.

 103. As we continued parading around the grounds of the event we stumbled upon some local artisans and craftspeople. Two in particular were "Moss & Palm" and "Heritage Collections" run by Elizabeth Moss and Elizabeth Deveaux respectively. Moss & Palm makes a huge selection of carcinogen-free essential oils and candles, natural soaps, organic body oils and much more. Initially started as a means to aid family members dealing with illness, Moss & Palm quickly evolved into a thriving business with a wide array of products servicing many individuals from all over the world through her online store. Heritage Collections is an African led company that makes handmade beaded jewelry and accessories. All of their products are made in Kenya by a women's group. Every piece is unique and tells a story. They offer everything from necklaces to earrings to bangles and much more. This business originally started as a hobby but due to the intricate artistry of their creations many people began wanting to purchase products from them. This eventually compelled Elizabeth to start the company and sell her merchandise online. Moss & Palm and Heritage Collections are two magnificent black woman run businesses with a huge following that will continue to expand and positively impact the lives of millions.

 105. Upon getting our fill of all the mercantile and culinary establishments that the Afro-Carib event had to offer, it was time to indulge in the main attraction; the inconceivable lineup of performances. In addition to the headliners, Tekno and Koffee, were a slew of amazing performances but other musicians such as J.Perry, David Cairol, Yung Wylin, Jacob Forever, and Mr.Alexander Star. Each bringing their own unique flavor to the event. J. Perry blazed the stage with incredible Haitian music. Jacob Forever injected a bit of a Latin spice into the arena with his performances. David Cairol came with some roots and culture. Yung Wylin's gave us a nice Afrobeats vibe and Mr. Alexander Star serenaded us using melodic R&B.

 106.

 107. When it came time for the headliners to perform they both set the stage on absolute fire. Tekno rocked the mic performing some of his hottest tracks "Joro" and "Pana". The crowd was going wild in support of the African superstar. Every aspect of his performance was unbelievable. The amount of energy he brought to the crowd and the overall event was magical.

 108.

 109. Koffee closed the event with a bang. Giving us some of her biggest hits as well as a slew of songs off of her recently released debut album "Gifted". The patrons were enthralled by her talent and stage presence. Her groovy music had everyone waving their hands, flags and phones in the air. Definitely sealing the deal on what was an utterly outstanding festival.

 110.

 111. Without a doubt, the 2023 Afro-Carib festival was an experience to remember. A melting pot of culture, food and music culminating into an extravaganza poised for the record books. Such a superb way to unite the African collective to celebrate its monumental influence on art in a variety of forms. The spiritual and rhythmic influence of the motherland was very present. Setting the bar extremely high for the rest of the music festivals of the 2023 season and for many years to come.

With a bill of artists and from all of the country including Boosie, Ball Greezy, Sukihana, Dess Dior, Billy Blue, and many more. From the entrance to the main stage it was filled with high energy. It reminded me when I was at the first annual Rolling Loud held in Miami seeing independent artists on the same stage with major label artists, and I couldn’t help but think if Trina’s festival would also become a nationwide platform for independent performing artists to shine in south Florida. Of course veterans lit the stage like Mike Smiff, Boosie, Dess Dior, Ball Greezy, and the Diamond Princess herself did as expected rocked the crowd. Other stand out upcoming independent artists such as Tierra Tranice, VStuck, Allegra Dayo, MellowRackz, Oya Baby, 93 Purpose, AyoDaii, Swavor King, and Queen K just to name a few. Im looking forward to seeing if this will become a continuous annual festival because Trina successfully brought out the talent out of Miami.

 160.
Determine, known to some as “Meshak”, is a world renowned reggae music artist hailing from the small but captivating island of Jamaica. Born Rohan Bennett on March 4th, 1972 in Annotto Bay, a town in the eastern parish of St. Mary. Determine’s love for music developed from a very early age. Ever since he was a kid he would recite songs by old school music greats such as Kenny Rogers, Micheal Jackson, Debarge and much much more. He was drawn to music from all genres by their various rhythms and melodies regardless of whether or not he could even understand the lyrics. It was during his childhood years in grade school where his passion for the musical arts began to manifest into real life works. Determine credits his many school teachers for nurturing his natural aptitude for writing and literature. He spent countless hours in the classroom writing and reading material on various subjects. Over time, his escritory talents transcended into poems and song lyrics that would eventually develop into some of his greatest releases such as “Bloodshed”, “Brick pon Brick”, “Rise Up Youths” and countless others. He believes the diligence and devotion of his school to educating the youth is partly what made him into the excellent musician he is today.

 161.

 162.
As he progressed into adulthood, he never slowed down on honing in on his craft. He continued writing artistic works of all kinds. Adamant about continual self improvement, Determine would often head out to the local river back home in Jamaica as a youth for a peaceful backdrop to recite and perfect his music. So much so that the average person would think it is the story behind how he received his stage name. Actually, the name “Determine” came from a very popular weekly Television Jamaica (TVJ) program called “Sunday Matinee” which he watched all the time as a child. One particular Sunday while watching the program he stumbled upon a show about a love story featuring a man in pursuit of the woman that he loves. From the very beginning the man was on top of his game; courting her, spending time with her, trying to strengthen the bond between them, etc. These attempts, however, were seemingly to no avail due to the fact that the man was very poor, didn't have a car nor much else of monetary value to offer her. Despite his financial inhibitions, the man was very ambitious and humorous with a good heart. He never gave up hope of making that particular woman his. After some time the young man began to make some headway; his charm and charismatic energy grew on her. She started paying attention to him, noticing how helpful and caring he was. Over time she became more and more open to establishing a relationship with him. One day, the two of them met up and the woman said to the man “You ARE Mister Determine”. Since the man was present but not actually apparent in the scene where she said that line Rohan Bennett believed she was talking to him specifically. Filled with new found inspiration Determine felt compelled to tell his friends all about it. Although they were a bit frustrated at the frequency of his name changes, Determine’s friends were astonished at the power behind the name and how much it fit his aura. Needless to say, the name quickly stuck and would be the name he incorporated into his music and performances that would set the tone for his illustrious career.

 165.

 166.
The first big performance opportunity for Determine as a young developing artist quickly gaining in notoriety as well as proficiency in artistic expression was the highly anticipated border clash between the parishes of Portland and St.Mary. This event took place in the small coastal town of Buff Bay located in close proximity to the border that separates the parishes. It brought out the best of the best in DJ emcees from all over the island, especially the then music hub of Jamaica, Kingston, the capital city. Headlining some of the biggest names in the music industry of the late 80’s and 90’s such as “Roundhead”, “General B”, “Ninja Ford” and many more, it attracts Jamaican music enthusiasts from all over, domestic and abroad. Determine was ecstatic to know so much talent was coming virtually to his own backyard. He couldn't wait for all the already established artists on the lineup to see him, an adolescent black boy from out the church, graced with the opportunity to showcase his talent on the big stage.

 167.

 168.
As the day of the border clash arrived, Determine was initially quite excited to perform, but quickly became nervous when witnessing the high caliber of talent from the other contestants in the competition. His anxiety grew to be quite noticeable to where a good friend of his named “Kegzman” had to ask if he was okay. Admittedly very nervous indeed, Determine came clean to his compadre about how he was feeling and Kegzman was able to comfort him. He rolled a special spliff for Determine and reassured him of how talented he was and what he came to this event to do. This spliff calmed the nerves of Determine and put him in a state of zen allowing him to focus on the original task at hand, executing an amazing performance for the audience and all those tuning in. When his turn finally arrived Determine stole the show, performing four tracks that captivated the audience immediately presenting himself as a major threat to the other competitors. So much so that other members of the St.Mary team wanted to clash with him. Even main acts such as “Dugzy Ranks” , originally scheduled just to perform after all the contestants did their stints, wanted a piece of this new young name Determine as well.

 169.

 170.
As the event was coming to a close, promoters and organizers began rushing Determine asking for more time to record him in action. They were offering to pay Determine a portion of the proceeds of the sales from all the content they were recording from the event itself. Ultimately, team St.Mary won the clash and Determine was the only one out of all the contestants to get a check from the production staff. Elated, Determine walked 30+ miles all the way back to his parish St.Mary very proud of the fact that he was able to put his community Annotto Bay on the map. Aside from the unexpected payout from the competition, Determine also gained the respect and recognition from other already well established artists in attendance which led to future collaborations and performances opportunities throughout Jamaica and beyond.

 171.

 172.
To keep the momentum going, Determined truly lived up to his name by his devotion to improving upon his craft. He continued to diversify his delivery and draw inspiration from his colleagues like “Shabba Ranks” and “Beenie Man”. This set the tone for his career. He was able to find his niche musically and truly began cultivating the right components for executing an authentic representation of himself through music. Determine is all about being true to who he is. Ultimately, with his music he is trying to convey the importance of creative and individualistic expression of oneself. He believes we as humans are all stars since birth so we should all strive to be a first rate version of ourselves rather than a second rate version of anyone else.

 173.

Everything from the music to the food to the atmosphere was incredible. The camaraderie of the patrons, hailing from a plethora of nations in the Caribbean and beyond, was a sight to see. All of which came in support of the birth of a nation, it's rich musical history as well as one of its founding principles "Out of Many, One People". The 2021 Miami Reggae Festival presented by Rockers Movement was a great way to commemorate all of the legends of Reggae music as well as highlight the overall message of the music itself; the unifying principle of "One Love". Such a wonderful event to celebrate Jamaica's Independence.

 179.

 180.
From the minute you step foot into the parking lot you start feeling the energy of the event. The roar of the music permeated deeply throughout the entire Miami-Hialeah Flea Market. As you tread closer to the entrance you begin to hear patrons serenading one another to the soothing hits of various reggae icons such as Garnett Silk, Buju Banton and Bob Marley. The smell of various West Indian delicacies captivate your senses drawing you in even closer. Upon entry, you are greeted by a wide assortment of local vendors in attendance to partake in the festivities. Everything from artists, to restaurants, to family-friendly entertainment came out to show the public what they had to offer.

 183.

 184.
At the center of it all sat the colossal stage from which songs of freedom, liberation and unity rang everso eloquently. Pan-Africanist poet/artist Mutabaruka moderated the event with pure roots and. culture. He entertained the crowd with jokes and stories about the good 'ol days and how reggae music evolved over time. He also introduced the various sound system DJ's including Stone Love, King Waggy Tee, Overproof Movements and many more that took to the stage spinning their remixes on reggae classics. Music that invokes peace and love as well as liberation within the community. All in ode to the primary objective of the event itself, "healing the community with sound system culture".

 191.
A few local artists gave live performances showcasing their talent. One in particular is Trinidadian artist/singer "Shelly Sweetshells". Blazing the stage with tracks about faith, perseverance and joy, Shelly electrified the audience setting the tone for what was destined to be a great event. She performed her hit song "Praises" reminding everyone of the importance of gratitude and giving thanks for even the smallest of blessings. Highlighting the many struggles Jamaicans, as well as Afro-diasporic communities at large, have overcome throughout history. The sacrifices their ancestors made in resistance to colonial rule deserve the highest levels of honor, appreciation and reverence.

 193.

 194.
The entertainment wasn't the only extraordinary component of the reggae festival, the food was remarkable as well. The venue offered a taste of the West Indian collective with dishes from virtually every Caribbean nation imaginable. Among them was Barbadian chef and restaurateur Trevon Stoute. Offering traditional delicacies with a twist like coconut curry chicken and roasted corn & tomato succotash served over steamed rice or roasted potatoes. Paired with an ice cold beer or glass of rum punch; it made for the perfect accompaniment to the easygoing reggae vibes.

The camaraderie it created amongst the patrons contributed greatly to the overall spirit of the event. Such a splendid occasion to rejoice with people from all over the world. An occasion to be memorialized for many years to come.

 205.
Music has really evolved especially in today’s world. Some artists have great music but their image sucks. Then you have artists whose music isn’t so great yet their image is out there and eye-catching so you become intrigued and may listen to a few of their songs. However, you can’t have bad music and a bad image! At that point, you’re wasting your time and money.

 206.

 207.
Kiddo Marv has been in the music scene for some years. His debut mixtape: Dying 2 Live was released back in 2015. Unfortunately for him, his music isn’t all that great. Actually, let me correct that . . . Any song of his without a feature isn’t good except “Heart Breaker” but let’s be honest, the remix with Tokyo Jetz was 10 times better. Moving forward, on top of the music, it seems like his image is going downhill as well. Kiddo Marv posted an Instagram photo of him and a Chucky doll named “Lil Ti Zak”. This image seems a tad bit familiar.

 208.

 209.
Reign Rx, also known as K Reign, was in the music scene for a while until she kind of disappeared. She’s currently focused on being a mom to her baby boy. Reign Rx was known for carrying around her Chucky doll. It was her image and her statement. When you saw her, you saw the Chucky doll. Everywhere she went, that doll was right beside her.

 210.

 211.
Well, Kiddo Marv, I think it’s time to pick your struggle. You can’t have bad music and a bad image. The Chucky doll look isn’t for you. You should focus on making better music. Also, if you’re going for a new image, try not stealing someone else’s.

 216.
All the way from the streets of Chicago's southside, Miami based Radio Station of Culture Kings (WKMT-DB Dagr8fm) presents Haji Outlaw. He was raised as an only child in a single-parent household, which came with many challenges. Music was always an outlet Haji used to escape reality when things got tough. Aside from music, Haji was also very interested in entertainment itself. Over the course of his career so far, Haji Outlaw has dibble dabbled in various artistic endeavors including comedy shows, music production, and writing.

 217.

 218.
Despite being deeply engulfed in the entertainment industry from childhood, Haji actually comes from a family of educators. Growing up, they always stressed the importance of having an education and being the best you can be. For that very reason, he never wavered in grade school and went on to college to pursue higher education. He spent his college years at FAMU where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering and was also a key member of the University's baseball team.

 219.

 220.
Shortly after graduation, Haji reached a crossroads. Although excited about receiving his bachelor's, Haji knew he didn't want to pursue a career in electrical engineering or end up at a cubicle. He wanted to do something not only fulfilling for himself but impactful to others in a positive way. After some soul-searching, he finally decided on stand-up comedy. He went back home to Chicago to start his newfound love. There he went on a slew of events throughout the Midwest as an opening act for mainstream comedians at comedy shows as well as many other entertainment gigs such as CBS, NBC, the Detroit Comedy Festival, and The Eric Andre Show. He even wrote a series of independent ebooks available now.

 221.

 222.
Haji Outlaw started thinking of music in a critical way when he heard the track entitled "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air himself Will Smith. This was the first production where he witnessed music, melodies and comedy blended so seamlessly together. It was here where he started to find his niche in the industry - combining music production with comedic expression. This is profiled quite evidently in one of Haji hit tracks titled "Tits No Bible" available now on most major music streaming platforms. In this record, he brilliantly challenges traditional judicial procedures such as swearing in under oath on a Bible. With witty punchlines as well as a harmonic melody Haji Outlaw playfully shifts our perspective on things we often overlook or simply dismiss as standard protocol.

 223.

 224.
All in all, Haji Outlaw strives to be a positive force in the world around him. The main objective of his craft is to make people laugh and also give them a musical experience that treads along a less beaten path. As he says himself the message he is trying to convey is simple, "comedic hilarity over fire beats". He wants to broaden the mind of the average music consumer to all the possibilities that music can have. He also hopes to inspire many people just like those that have inspired him along his journey to constantly think outside the box and take innovation to whole new heights.

 244.

 245.
Believing in their cinematic craft so much is what got them where they are now. Creative ideas & bomb-ass projects added to their portfolio, they established a strong business relationship and did not know each other for a long period of time. In less than 2 years, with No Film School, just pure creative talent the duo consider themselves perfectionists. There Are two types of film directors in this world, the ones who seek to imitate the world in which they live & the ones who put a lot of substance & time into creating their own world.

 246.

 247.
The most iconic & original music video “All hail to who ENDURETH” produced and directed by the duo Nobelenci and Mike Sauers. Had the pleasure of working with a local Miami, FL artist by the name of Knarley Noso.

 248.

 249.
During that part of the interview, I asked how the duo picks their clients like Knarley Noso. Mike responded “we're in a space where we give as much as we possibly can & we appreciate artists who are open-minded to our creative style” thus creating a masterpiece that will get the exposure it deserves.

 250.

 251.
Nobelenci started off acting and writing, while exploring his gifts he started writing scripts & screenplays, He took on his first project for a visual called HEARTBREAK inspired by the 2011 Movie Drive with leading actors Ryan Gosling & Carey Mulligan.

 252.

 253.
While Mike took a few classes in high school, having that advantage his father was into Architecture photography while growing up he saw cameras laying around, got to experience its own art form and his father was his mentor.

 254.

 255.
When mentioned which filmmakers influenced them the most, Nobelenci didn't know how much potential he had & wasn't into film, but was a big Quentin Tarantino fan. Playing soccer most of his life Mike wasn't for sure film was what he wanted to do. Christopher Nolan being a huge inspiration pushed him to pick up the camera 3 years ago. Neither one has looked back ever since. Opening a Production Company together called DFRNT Breed Film, the two together are an undefeated duo.

 262.

 263.
They say, our first impression is just an initial judgment. To me, the word judgment is a bit too harsh - it's more of superficial analysis of a situation, circumstance or living thing. Judgment is when you have adequate knowledge of the ins and outs of a particular occurrence from which you can make an informed decision as to whether or not the parties involved are right or wrong based on a moral/ethical foundation (i.e laws, rules, policies). Intuition, however, is a whole other animal because it follows the same procedure that judgment uses to make a decision but without any sort of logical base. It's that gut feeling that we get about a person, a situation ,a potential business endeavor etc. Everything is on an emotional level - how we feel about a situation not necessarily the physical evidence, details or facts that are presented before us but more of the deeper meaning or message this knowledge is trying to convey. Despite this, many times in life we ignore our gut instincts and suppress our intuition nearly for the sake of being congenial, partial and diplomatic to instead rely on political, religious or cultural indoctrination to form our decisions. What gives these mediums precedence over our own internal psychic nature? What methods of reasoning were used before these doctrines even existed? I asked myself this all the time because often times I ignore my own instincts and go the more logical route. The more I progress in this journey through life more I understand the importance of trusting in our own innate psychic nature. I believe intuition and instinct are the universe's ways of communicating with living things on a spiritual level. Just like when animals are first born and they already sort of know what to do as far as what is best for themselves and what is best for the environment around. Are we not animals just like them, biologically at least? I mean, our egos may not accept that notion but scientifically it can be proven. So if that is the case why don't we follow the same example as them? I've pondered on this question for many many years. I used to think our instincts were trying to misguide and confused me but really they are trying to protect me and help me understand what is going on from a more grand perspective. Our belief system derived from indoctrination and influences outside of our psychic nature have led to the most destructive wars, genocides and enslavements of the human era. Yet, we continue to believe, somehow, that they will be the means to our end destination. Maybe it's time we confide less in the indirect, more socially acceptable mediums for connecting with the spiritual realm and more to the spiritual realm's direct connection with us...

 268.
Did ATL Lil Trap House Pop Up Museum really represent the “Trap House” & “Trap Music” empire here in Overtown Miami where the most remembered Street Legends made Trap history in the early 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. ATL Lil Trap House came and centered itself in the heart of Overtown 9th & 2nd Ave for Martin Luther King (MLK) Weekend a three-day event. Making Lil Trap House pop-up a major social media headliner and eye-popping museum including a Rick Ross Belaire exhibit. Speaking of (Rick Ross) the original William “Rick Ross” Roberts Miami Rapper who was glorified for his trap style rhymes on his hit song White House was the embodiment of a Trap House Rapper.

 269.

 270.
Lil Trap house Pop-up Museum measured a little of 10’ x 18’sq. feet. Just a slice of Trap Music History compared to the original Trap House in Atlanta. They were able to implement some Miami artist like Ball Greezy, Kodak Black, Uncle Luke and Trick & Trina, but let us be real it failed to include some of Miami’s finest like E Class of Poe Boy Records, Jacki O, Pit Bull and JT Money of Poison Clan.

 271.

 272.
The Lil Trap House team most defiantly enforced the CDC guidelines for a safe and fun experience including but limited to guest who wanted to pose with their blunts in hand, and due to size of the museum guest were not allowed to observe to long. One of my favorite part of the exhibit was the Snow Man wall designed by Rubber Band Man (Mixed Media) that had 66 blocks of prop white cocaine. This one exhibit displayed the history behind The Boobie Boys who have gone down in gangster & lyrical lore as certified legends versed in the strength of street knowledge and hood justice. One of Miami’s most savage drug gang gangs, who allegedly killed to establish their turf and to retaliate against rivals.

 273.

 274.
Finally, the Rubber Band Man (TI) exhibit standing 6’6 with over hundred-thousands rubber bands representing one his legacy’s and Billboard Hot 100 hit song (Rubberband Man). That exhibit tied into Convertible Burt who was a part of The Miami Boys who were reported in the early 1980s in Southern Florida when drug dealers ("the boys from Miami") traveled northwards to cities like Orlando to deal crack cocaine. By 1986, the Miami Boys were operating in Atlanta, where an ounce of cocaine sold for triple the Miami price, displacing local small-time dealers.

 275.

 276.
When you come into this space, you see that Lil Trap House did they part in representing the Miami Trap Lifestyle & History. Telling the story of the artists, drug gangs and dealers like Avonda “Black Girl” Dowling who represented this genre here in Miami, that is running the world right now by placing this three-day pop-up museum in the heart of Overtown, people love it & love to see it.

 288.
Gospel Gabe was born Gabriel Wilson in the tough streets of Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in the '80s, Gabe spent much of his childhood very active in church with his grandfather. With his biological father being absent for the vast majority of his life, his grandfather was his primary father figure. Together they would sing gospel songs as well as recite the holy word. Here is where began to develop a lifelong relationship with the Lord that would transcend the tests of time.

 289.

 290.
Along with the Christian faith, Gospel Gabe was also heavily influenced by the hip hop music of the 80s and 90s. A time filled with dope MC's that rapped about real life experiences and visions for the future. Artists such as Nas and KRS-One are whom he shaped his flow and delivery after. However, he was very adamant that the overall narrative of his music be about God's grace, mercy and glory. Gospel Gabe strives be a vessel through which God can convey his holy word.

 291.

 292.
Eventually, Gabe's love for music and God compelled him to start writing his own music. He began performing his work to friends anywhere he could. His popularity grew immensely; so much so, that he gained the attention of many labels looking to sign him. He refused to sign to any of them because he wanted to maintain his creative freedom and not be a vessel of God that would be filtered by any particular record label's expectations of him. He wanted to remained as authentic as possible to deliver God's message exactly as he intended it.

 293.

 294.
The recent release of his first single titled "King is Near", available now on all major music streaming platforms, is a prime example for Gospel Gabe's reverence for the Lord. This incredible track talks about the importance of giving your life to God and letting him use you for good. It also shows how imperative it is to establish a relationship with God because soon God will be back to claim his people. As Gabe puts it, "The king is coming, the king is near..." we must make sure to remain immersed in the anointing rather than tormented by fear.

 295.

 296.
As for the future, Gabe has many new projects on the horizon. The first of which is a new single called "You a Superstar" currently out now. He is open to collabs with other artists who share the same devotion to conveying God's word to the masses. His goal is to continue to make music that inspires others and show them what a merciful and loving God he serves. For that very reason Gospel Gabe dubs himself "the artist of the people". His purpose here on Earth is to shine God's light for as far as the eye can see.

 306.
The DMV area has been a hub for Growing up hip hop music for many years. Industry heavy hitters such as Wale, Ybn Cordae, and Shy Glizzy represent this area to the fullest and are reflections of its rich, diverse culture. "Dre-Ski", a budding talent out of Virginia Beach, VA, is striving to climb the ranks of the hip hop ladder and make his own footprint on the industry. An impactful footprint, one that will positively impact the lives of the youth.

 307.

 308.
Originally from the "Campus East" neighborhood of Virginia Beach, VA, Dre-Ski had a quite musical childhood. Both of his parents were avid music connoisseurs and spent much of their time listening to the likes of Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Prince, Al Green and many others. Dre-Ski himself, however, was much more into the rap scene of the late 90s and early 2000s. Some of his biggest musical influences growing up were Jay Z, Fabolous and Clipse. He would listen to Jay-Z's "Reasonable Doubts" album on repeat for hours on end studying his lyrics and flow. He grew much respect and appreciation for their creativity, witty bars and metaphorical nuances. These were the major inspirations in Dre-Ski's life that changed music from just a hobby to a full-fledged career.

 309.

 310.
In 2015, he started his own independent record label called "XB Music Group LLC". He began rebranding, recording music and reintroducing himself to the world as an indie artist. As time progressed, he developed his own unique style which he describes as a mix of J. Cole and Fabolous. He drops lyrical "jewels" throughout his music to connect with the youth, especially young black men who face many trials and tribulations as citizens of the United States. At the same time, his witty delivery showcases the talent and creativity behind the messages.

 311.

 312.
One of the best illustrations of Dre-Ski's genius is one of his latest releases entitled "Real Kings" available now on all major music streaming platforms. He talks about the struggles of black men on their way to greatness and self-actualization. He reminds them to fix their crowns when they get knocked down and continue persevering. On this journey called life many will try to deter us from stepping into our true power - we must stay focused. As Dre-Ski himself would say "on the road to riches and diamond rings, real Kings do real things".

 313.

 314.
Through music, Dre-Ski aims to speak on the social issues impacting African American men on a daily basis. He wants to relate to the common person, to let them know that you can still be yourself and not change into someone you're not. He believes this is the most critical aspect of our society since the evolution of social media and it's known impact on young kids' mental health issues. The power of influence is a real thing. His music is a prime example of that.

 315.

 316.
Aside from Real Kings, there are four other tracks out right now from his recently released EP entitled "4 Real Ones Only". He is also currently working on a new project called "Turning Point" set to be released sometime in 2021. Dre-Ski has a very bright future ahead. Much more great music to be made and young people to inspire. Make sure to follow and support this young up-and-coming artist to see how his journey unfolds, to be continued...

 327.

 328.
One thing we really appreciate here at WKMT-DB DAGR8FM is homegrown talent. For that very reason we had to shed light on one of the hottest up and coming artists out of the Sunshine State right now "Miike Genne". Originally from Tampa Florida, Genne spent much of his upbringing traveling about much of the country always being exposed to new cultures and customs from people of all walks of life. One thing that always remained consistent in his life, however, was music. These childhood experiences gave him a diverse skill set with the ability to blend genres and create extraordinarily intricate rhyme schemes that set him apart from the rest.

 329.

 330.
Growing up, every new destination brought a whole new world of music to Miike Genne. As a result, he draws on inspiration from a wide range of musical influences such as Lauryn Hill, Eminem, Jay Z, and Kanye West. Eventually, in 2016, it compelled him to make music of his own. He began rapping over popular instrumentals with friends. As time went on, he began to develop creatively as an artist and really find his own sense of individuality in the industry. Today, after years of hard work and dedication to his music, Genne describes himself as a humble lyrical genius hungry for the opportunity to demonstrate his craft. With showmanship and downright ability, Genne is ready to devour any beat set before him.

 331.

 332.
A perfect example of his skill set and capabilities is one of his most recent releases titled "Stronger" available now on all major music streaming platforms. In this particular track the concise lyrics paint a very vivid picture of who exactly Miike Genne is and what he has to offer as a creator. He proclaims to the world that he is a bold leader and is "Stronger" than any obstacle in his path. He is a soldier that will stand tall in the face of adversity because, as he states in the song itself " [in] all seasons, I remain golden". This track not only displays his lyrical capability, but also expresses a conscious message to the masses that through self-belief you can overcome any situation.

 333.

 334.
On the horizon, there is much to be anticipated from Miike Genne. He is currently in the studio working on a new EP set to be released in 2021. He is also eager to collaborate and work with other talented artists on future projects. Overall, Genne aims to uplift the community with knowledge and positivity. He hopes his messages of confidence, resilience and perseverance permeates the lives of millions. Miike Genne, a name sure to make waves in the music industry for 2021 and beyond.

 348.
“Only Wallace” is one of the very few to go against the grain to make waves in the music industry wearing Akron on his back. When you think of Akron, a city in northern Ohio, the first thing that usually comes to mind is basketball legend Lebron James. Besides that, there isn’t much to remember about this small industrial town known primarily for its rubber tire plants. The music scene is virtually non-existent with many artists migrating to nearby music hubs like Chicago and St.Louis for more opportunities. Only Wallace is looking to show everybody who exactly is the music world’s “Akron’s Very Own”.

 349.

 350.
Coming from a small town as well as a turbulent upbringing, Only Wallace (born Ishmael Haslam) faced much adversity along his trek toward musical eminence. He was raised by his mother who had him at the tender age of 13. He spent most of his life estranged from his father who is currently serving a 20 year prison sentence for murder. Growing up, Only Wallace was subject to a substantial amount of verbal and physical abuse from multiple members of his family. These conditions worsened to the point where he ended up homeless desperate for a way out. He needed a healthy outlet for all the mixed emotions and skewed perspectives he subconsciously formed due to his childhood. Music was the method of catharsis that he chose.

 351.

 352.
In the mid 2000’s, he began recording raps and within a few years started a series of freestyle battles and cyphers to challenge other MC’s while building his own audience. It wasn't until about a year ago that Only Wallace decided to go full throttle with his music career. Now, he drops new verses on a weekly basis following inspiration he received from freestyle superstars “Lil Wayne” and “Currensy”. The raw authenticity that comes from fresh material that is performed live on camera always resonated more deeply to him than regular songs because it provides more insight to the artist’s creative process. Only Wallace demonstrates his own raw authenticity to a tee on his blazing hot single “Slept On”. In this track he talks about the struggles of a small town artist trying to ‘make it big in the music industry. He considers himself an underdog in this game and embraces that title to the fullest. Although his talent has often been overlooked by “family” and “friends” along the way, he continued to develop and evolve musically. . The progress and momentum he has gained due to his consistency has definitely awakened those who had previously “slept on” Only Wallace to what “Akron’s Very Own” has to offer. As he says in the track, the success he has achieved so far in his career is “some s**t that his Grandma would pray about”.

 353.

 354.
Be on the lookout for new projects from Only Wallace as he is frequently releasing new material. He has an ongoing series of tracks called “Six Degrees of Separation” that can be found on Soundcloud. Currently, he is open for collaborations with artists that can challenge his lyrical and creative ingenuity. One day, he hopes to work with creative greats such as 50 Cent, Timbaland, The Weeknd and many others. Overall, Only Wallace hopes his music can be a message to people that no matter where you come or what you’ve been through as long as you believe and stay consistent you too can be your own town’s “Very Own”.

 366.
Hailing all the way from the motherland, WKMT-DB DAGR8FM presents the up and coming international sensation "Nuw". Originally from Nairobi Kenya, Nuw, born Brian Kangethe, emigrated to Canada around the turn of the century. He was raised in a very traditional African household with very strict parents that always stressed the importance of academic excellence. Whenever he found the chance to get his head out of the school books he would dive into the wonderful world of music. From the tender age of eight years old Nuw was exposed to the likes of legends such as Tupac, Biggie Smalls, are Lauryn Hill. This was the foundation of his love affair with music that was later cemented when hometown hero Drake broke out onto the scene. All of these artists influenced Nuw's development heavily along his musical journey.

 367.

 368.
When making music he draws from the dynamic lyricism and wordplay of many of the hip hop artists from the old school and add nuances and cadences derived from New age artists currently on the scene. The result is a music that has depth, figurative language, content, and knowledge well beyond Nuw's years. This is evident in one of the tracks "Intro (Flex)" off of his recently released self-titled EP. In this particular track he talks about many of the trials and tribulations that he's faced along his journey through life like superficial friendships, mental health issues as well as childhood trauma.

 369.

 370.
As he continued making music, his fan base and outreach grew immensely. So much so that during his senior year of high school he expanded his music pursuit to the professional level. What was initially just a hobby used as a therapeutic outlet became a burning passion that has yet to show any signs of dwindling. Through his music he aims to convey the importance of individuality. Staying true to yourself and not conforming to outside influences are keys to standing out. Raw authenticity goes along way.

 371.

 372.
On the horizon are many new projects in the works by Nuw himself. Aside from his self-titled EP released earlier this year he is currently working on new singles as well as features that will be released in 2021 and has even been entertaining the idea of creating another EP set to release in quarter four of 2021 or the first half of 2022. Nuw is definitely an artist to be on the lookout for in the near future. Young, humble and hungry for success, Nuw will definitely continue to impact the hearts of many for years to come.
