Term life is renewable in 1 year-increments with increasing premiums so it is much easier to terminate it if you find a much better deal because of this option.The Cons:It has an expiry date. The primary advantage of Whole life is the guarantee that your policy will be paid out, unlike a term policy.The Cons:Expensive. Because this type of policy builds up a savings account or “cash value” that grows tax-deferred, it’s premiums are not cheap.Return of PremiumThe Pros:It’s a compromise. A return-of-premium policy provides a death benefit that is paid out should you pass away. However, if you outlive the term of the policy, you only get all of your money back dollar for dollar with no interest. So no matter what happens to you whether you die while covered or outlive the policy, money is distributed.<br />Affordable. Though a return-of-premium policy isn’t as cheap as term life, it is still much cheaper than whole life. A return-of-premium policy will cost approximately 50% more than a comparable term life plan.<br />Easy to Understand and Shop For. Return-of-premium policies are easy to shop for and easy to understand.The Cons:NO return on your investment. If you outlive the initial term, you will only get back what you paid in. Managers must keep pace with the daily demands of their businesses, including payroll, taxes, product/service delivery, and customer expectations.Fortunately, the end of the year is the perfect time for a comprehensive evaluation of your company. Your business needs a checkup. Most people can relate to a checkup with their local doctor, depending on their background and personality characteristics (age, sex, family medical history). The doctor will conduct a variety of tests, including blood, vision, heart, and hearing.In fact, one element like an individual’s weight is not the only indicator of overall good health. Likewise, small businesses could benefit from a good checkup too. Successful entrepreneurs think strategically when engaged in a hostile, global environment.After 27 years of managing projects and conducting over 100 organizational evaluations of business organizations, I realize that both large and small organizations struggle in implementing their operations effectively. This article examines how small businesses need to conduct an effective checkup of their organizations.Welcome to the New Normal! Yet, nearly a year after this pandemic, the full impact on the U.S. economy is unclear. According to recent studies, more than four million Americans have left the workforce, and nearly 10 million are now unemployed compared with last February.In fact, the number of unemployed people continues to rise. According to a business study conducted between March 28 and April 4, 2020, small businesses have been heavily damaged by the lockdowns due to Covid-19.In an analysis of more than 5,800 small businesses (reaching a network of 4.6 million small businesses), the research highlighted the damage caused by the pandemic. The results showed evident damage of the pandemic. At this juncture, 43% of businesses had temporarily closed, and nearly all of these closures were due to COVID-19.Respondents stated that they had temporarily closed, largely pointed to reductions in demand and employee health concerns as the reasons for closure. In fact, the businesses, on average, reported having reduced their active employment by 39% since January.All industries have been impacted. However, retail, arts and entertainment, personal services, food services, and hospitality businesses showed significant employment declines exceeding 50%. Some businesses hope for assistance from the government.According to a Babson’s Goldman Sachs report, 88% of U.S. small business owners have already exhausted their Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan; the Small Business Association gave these loans specifically to help businesses keep their workforce employed during the pandemic. These loans were helpful.Yet, these successes do not diminish the fact that more than 32% of PPP loan recipients already have laid off employees or cut wages. In fact, Forty-three percent of Black small business owners reported that their businesses’ cash reserves would be depleted by year’s end due to Covid-19.Today’s small businesses and entrepreneurs must retool themselves, given the potential impacts of Covid-19 have the necessary capacity to change their way of thinking because of their passion. However, small businesses must be willing to evaluate their current operations and make the required changes.For example, customers have largely gone online to purchase services due to the lockdowns. If a business does not have an online presence now, this company does not exist. Internet pioneer and CEO of PSINet Bill Schrader explains the significant of online visibility: “Almost overnight, the Internet’s gone from a technical wonder to a business must.”With the appropriate diagnosis of an organization, a business can develop more sustainable success. Thus, the right checkup is critical.Below are some critical questions to help you conduct your own self-checkup:</p><p>Do you have a clear vision for your business? What is it?</p><p>Do you know why your customers buy from you and why others do not buy from you?</p><p>What results are you getting from your marketing? Do you have an effective online presence on the web?</p><p>Are you collecting data or the right kind of data on your customers and competitors?</p><p>Are you keeping pace with your industry trends? If so, what are the key trends?</p><p>How are you measuring results (i.e., key performance indicators like cash flow and revenue)?</p><p>What are your key competitors’ marketing strategies?</p><p>Have you evaluated your strengths and weaknesses (i.e., SWOT Analysis)?</p><p>In summary, successful global businesses, like IBM and Google, have continuous systems in place to evaluate their performance. Let’s call this process an organizational checkup.Small businesses that want to succeed in this global and technological climate must be able to conduct this self-evaluation or checkup. But what about people like me who have no perfections to boast about? If I had one perfection, I would spend all my time talking about that. And, that would become rather boring in no time.</p><p>Some people are ashamed of their imperfections and try to hide them. They think for some reason their imperfections bring them down. Therefore, they do all they can to hide their imperfections from everybody, thinking that nobody will know anything about them.</p><p>For the longest time, I tried to do that myself. Then there came the day when I realized that most people could see past my façade and see my imperfections.</p><p>For every perfection somebody has, there are probably dozens of imperfections. However, as for me, I cannot think of any perfection that I might have, and therefore focusing on my imperfections is the most reasonable thing to do.</p><p>Yes, there was a time when I did not believe I had any imperfections. That is the attitude of bachelors. Once I got married, I was introduced to many imperfections I never knew I had. I had no reason to think I had any.</p><p>Before I was married, I thought I was the perfect person with marvelous talent and abilities. From my perspective today, I sure was fooled about those nonexistent perfections I thought I had.</p><p>This is one of the significant advantages of getting married. When a person only thinks about the perfections they have in their life and does not know anything about any imperfections, they are headed for disaster. Therefore, I guess that is why I got married when I was young.</p><p>I have a cousin it was good looking and faithfully works at it but she is focused on her perfections. For example, she is very serious about her appearance, especially her skin. All I have to do is, when I meet her, is say, “Is that a new wrinkle on your face that I see?”</p><p>She will laugh, but I know she will soon disappear to try to work on that wrinkle in a few minutes. Her idea is that her face should be wrinkle-free. Well, I think to myself, how’s that working?</p><p>She does not realize that wrinkles are a verification that you are making something out of your life and you are growing. Instead, she looks at it from a negative standpoint.</p><p>As a young person, I believed I knew everything and was perfect in everything. I remember how boring that kind of a life was, not to mention arrogant.</p><p>If all I have in my life is perfection, how in the world can I improve myself?</p><p>When I am reminded of a certain imperfection that I have, it encourages me to get better. If perfect, I cannot get better, but I can if I am imperfect. So it took me a long time to understand that.</p><p>Now that I look back on my life, I can appreciate all those areas of imperfection that I survived. If imperfection is so bad, why have I had so many and have survived?</p><p>It was the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage that helped me understand my imperfections. I am sure she is not done with her task, but so far, she has found out many imperfections, and I have been working on some of them.</p><p>It is true what my father used to say, “Son, you can’t fix everything.” Knowing that gives me a great deal of relief from all of the imperfections that I have in my life.</p><p>Although my wife has been very faithful in helping me identify the areas of imperfection in my life, I have learned something very special. As a wife, that seems to be her job to help improve her husband. But, as a husband, that aspect of life is completely and absolutely off-limits.</p><p>You don’t believe me? Okay, husbands, go tell your wife what is wrong with her and how she can fix it. Don’t worry; I’ll say something nice at your funeral.</p><p>Through the years, I have enjoyed my imperfections because I do not allow them to harass me or even to define me. If I fix everything that is wrong with me, what in the world would I do next? Start fixing my wife’s imperfections?</p><p>I remember when my imperfections suddenly did not mean much to me. That was when little children began invading our home. Once they began arriving, everything about me in my perfections flew out the window. Now, and I am so thankful for it, everything is about those little children. Nobody is looking at me, but everybody is looking at my children.</p><p>I think that is why God gives us children. It deflects the attention from us to those cute, perfect little pre-adults. God is so wise in what he does.</p><p>In thinking about perfection, I cannot help but go to a Scripture verse that talks about it. “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).</p><p>My idea perfection is on the human level but that does not meet God’s standards.
