Kim Hae-ran started her professional volleyball career in 2002 by graduating from Masan Jeil Girls’ High School and joining the Korea Expressway Corporation. Afterwards, she moved to Heungkuk Life Insurance in the 2017-2018 season through KGC Ginseng Corporation and won her first trophy in the 2018-2019 season.
After her debut, Kim Hae-ran played on the court for 19 seasons except for the 2021-2022 season, when she briefly left the court to give birth to the 2023-2024 season. She also played in a total of 35 games in the 2022-2023 season, when she returned after giving birth.
Kim played in eight regular league games last season, posting a 40.32 percent receiving rate and 5.3 digs per set. He played in all of the first half due to knee injury but showed stable performance after returning to the team. He also played in the second and third matches of the championship game against Hyundai Engineering & Construction as the No. 1 libero in his team.
With Kim Hae-ran’s retirement, Heungkuk Life Insurance is expected to have Do and Park Su-yeon compete for the position as the main libero. However, it remains to be seen whether Do will show as much stability as Kim. Do was often anxious in receiving last season. Park has just changed her position from outside heater to libero. With Kim’s retirement, Heungkuk Life Insurance’s worries about libero are likely to deepen.
To make matters worse, Lee Ju-ah, a key middle blocker, also transferred to IBK Industrial Bank of Korea through a free agent contract. Lee took charge of Heungkuk Life Insurance along with Kim Soo-ji last season. Heungkuk Life Insurance is expected to fill Lee’s vacancy with Chinese player Hwang Ruili.
At an award ceremony held last month, Kim Yeon-koung announced that she would extend her active career. But at the same time, she also left a bone-in joke to the club. “I promised volleyball that Coach Marcello Avon Danza could win, but this year has been tough. I think I was too naive to believe what he said,” she said. “I will lead the team by leading by example. As far as I know, the club is making efforts to reinforce its players. I believe they will do well.”
However, Heungkuk Life Insurance’s off-season move was disappointing. It renewed contracts with internal FA players Kim Mi-yeon and Lee Won-jung, and recruited Choi Eun-ji to reinforce its position as outside heater, which had been criticized as weaknesses, but it was not a satisfactory outcome.
There was no clear reinforcement of power that “Volleyball Empress” Kim Yeon-koung earnestly shouted. Rather, there was a power leak. Attention is focusing on how Heungkuk Life and Kim Yeon-koung can overcome this difficulty.

His wife Melinda Chan Mei Yi has replaced him in the role, he said in a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Chan is also a former Macau lawmaker.
Mr. Chow remains executive director and co-chair of the board. The change will allow him to “focus on the development of the group’s overall business strategy and policies,” the filing said.
“Looking ahead” for the rest of 2020, “the impact of the coronavirus disease has slowed the group’s positive trend,” Mr Chow said, according to a separate press release.
Macao Legends operates the game under so-called service contracts with the existing Macao casino operator, or SJM Holdings, in three Macao locations – Legendary Palace Casino, Babylon Casino and Landmark Casino. Macao Legends also controls and operates the game at Saban Legends Casino in Laos, Southeast Asia.
The same day Macao Legend reported a loss of HK$172.4 million ($22.2 million) in sales through Dec. 31, which was actually up 26.5 percent. Such sales were just under HK$2.36 billion, compared with HK$1.87 billion a year earlier.
However, its full-year performance in 2018 was boosted by a profit of HK$3.43 billion on the disposal of its subsidiary, Landmark Macau Hotel, in the Macau Peninsula.
Total group gaming revenue in 2019 was slightly below HK$1.9 billion, up 39.8% from nearly HK$1.36 billion a year earlier.
“The significant increase in gaming revenue is primarily attributed to the mature development of Legendary Palace Casino and strong performance in the VIP segment,” the company said in a commentary on its full-year results.
As of December 31, Macau had a total of 194 game tables (same as December 2018), compared to 177 in December 2018. Laos has 55 game tables in operation, compared to 66 in December 2018.
The group’s adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for 2019 were approximately HK$365.8 million, an increase of approximately HK$60 million or 1.7% year-over-year.
On Thursday, it was also announced that Mr. Zhu’s mother, Lampong Ng’o, would retire as a Macau legend director.
According to a filing in April 2019, Mr. Lam was 91 years old at the time.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Cambodian authorities ordered the closure of all casinos in the country from Wednesday night as part of a number of measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has contributed to the COVID-19 infection.

“We have issued an order to close all casinos from 23:59 pm to April 1, 2020,” Hun Sen told a news conference on Monday, as reported by China’s Xinhua news agency.
“This is only a temporary closure and we will be able to resume operations once the situation stabilizes,” he added
Cambodia’s prime minister said he would work with casinos on tax exemptions while gaming operations were suspended, Reuters reported.
Casinos in major gaming jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Philippines, South Korea and Malaysia, have been temporarily closed across markets due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Macau ordered all casino facilities to be shut down for 15 days in February.
Casino markets in other parts of the world have also reported recent global disease warnings that have caused travel restrictions and health checks for consumers arriving at locations to halt casino business altogether or significantly reduce profits.
As of Monday, Cambodia has reported a total of 107 cases of infection by the virus that causes COVID-19, according to a statement from the health ministry. One of the four new cases reported on Monday involved a worker at a casino and karaoke club in the northwestern province of Bantei Minchi, near the border with Thailand, Reuters reported, citing the health ministry.
Cambodian authorities last week ordered restaurants and bars to close as a measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. The government also restricted entry visas for foreigners.
As of December 2019, “more than 125 casinos were operating in Cambodia, many of which were run by Chinese,” Reuters said in a report. The news agency did not provide a source of information.
All other casinos in Cambodia are in border areas or in Sihanoukville, except for the Naga World complex in the capital Phnom Penh, which is run by Hong Kong-listed Nagakov, Xinhua reported, citing the Cambodian prime minister.
A person familiar with the situation told GGRAsia that NagaWorld will suspend its gaming operations as directed by the Cambodian government. Hotel operations at the resort will continue. The official noted that NagaWorld had been practicing safety measures, including gaps between casino customers, prior to the planned gaming shutdown.
Nagakov said in February that even if its financial performance could be impacted by the current global coronavirus crisis, “the company’s long-term outlook remains good over the next six months of operations and beyond.”

The group’s interests include Asia Pioneer Entertainment (APE), a Macau-based casino slot machine and electronic table gaming distribution, sales and services business. The division has operations across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and is also involved in leasing and consulting work.
The parent company said in a filing on Monday that the two markets with interests – the Philippines and Cambodia – had recently announced a temporary suspension of casino operations as part of efforts to stem the further spread of COVID-19 infections linked to the coronavirus.
The group identified potential issues related to two business transactions related to the APE unit. One was a December 2018 financial lease agreement with Glymex Inc. regarding leases of certain electronic game equipment for “use at Philippine casinos.” The other was a December 2018 financial lease agreement with Siam Star Leisure Inc. and Glymex, regarding leases of electronic game equipment for “use at Cambodian casinos.”
Given the pandemic and the suspension of casino operations in those countries, directors at Asia Pioneer Entertainment Group considered that “letters may have difficulty paying rent totaling approximately HK$2.3 million ($300,000) under the payment schedule set out in each financial lease agreement.”
The announcement added that the group will “monitor the situation closely and keep the company’s shareholders and potential investors informed.”
The parent company said in its 2019 annual report at the end of March that it expects 2020 sales revenue from e-gaming equipment to be negatively impacted in common with the wider industry due to the novel coronavirus emergency. However, the group has committed to continuing to expand its existing consulting services and e-gaming equipment leasing arm next year.

Genting Malaysia Bhd’s notice attributed the country’s prime minister to extending what the country calls a movement control order to that date as part of efforts to stem the further spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The closure also applies to several non-game resorts operating in Malaysia, Resort World Awana, Resort World Kijal and Resort World Langkawi, the operator of Resort World Genting (pictured), which is located in the Genting Highlands near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
“Resort operations will resume once the movement control order is lifted,” the company said.
“As more information becomes available, we will continue to monitor the situation and make necessary announcements,” the update added.
Genting Malaysia confirmed the initial closure of casino resorts and other Malaysian non-game resorts from March 18 to March 31 in a March 17 filing with Bursa Malaysia. At the end of March, Resorts World Genting said the closure would be extended until April 14.
Malaysia’s government on Friday extended travel and travel restrictions for another two weeks until April 28 as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus outbreak, despite reporting a slowdown in new infections.
Malaysia reported 4,683 cases as of noon on Sunday, 76 deaths, the country’s highest number of coronavirus infections in Southeast Asia, according to data from the country’s health ministry.

KCC was called a “super team” this season by building a brilliant lineup including Heo Woong, Lee Seung-hyun, Ra Gun-ah, Choi Jun-yong and Song Kyo-chang, but it was sluggish in the regular league, and transformed into another team from the playoffs to win the championship match of the fifth-place team for the first time in history.
“It was a season when there were a lot of injured players, but all the players could gather only four to five days before the start of the playoffs,” coach Jeon said. “It is not easy for such a member to gather in one team, and if he had played the regular league as a member, he would not have finished fifth.”
“Even though there were injuries, when the media said ‘the super team lost’, I lost my energy, and I felt as if I wanted us to lose,” he said. “It became a process for the players to become solid, and the players worked harder in the playoffs to protect their pride.”
He also looked back on his past when he fell into the abyss due to allegations of match fixing and gambling after winning the top three times, 2002-2003, 2004-2005 and 2007-2008 seasons during the Wonju TG Sambo and the Eastern period.
Since then, Jeon, who returned to the KCC head coach in 2019 after being cleared of all legal charges, has achieved his fourth career championship title.
“As you know well, it wasn’t easy for me to coach again,” he said. “KCC called me, and I think I paid back even a little for the club that gave me the opportunity, but I’m still very fortunate.”
In particular, he expressed his gratitude to the late honorary chairman Chung Sang-young and said, “I want to visit you and say I did it.”
Born in 1963, Jeon became the first head coach in his 60s to win a professional basketball championship.
“In the digital age, I had a lot of thoughts about whether I could overcome the change of the times with analog supervision,” he said. “Coaches helped me well next to me, so I endured it.”

Genting Malaysia Bhd’s notice attributed the country’s prime minister to extending what the country calls a movement control order to that date as part of efforts to stem the further spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
In a televised address on Thursday, Malaysia’s prime minister, Muhidin Yashin, said the country’s movement control order should be extended to keep its people safe. But some measures would be eased slightly, he added.
Yasin said continued declines in coronavirus numbers would gradually ease more lockdown measures, including bans on all social gatherings and closures of non-essential businesses. Malaysia had recorded 5,603 cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, official data showed.
In a March 17 filing with Bursa Malaysia, Genting Malaysia confirmed the closure of casino resorts and other Malaysian non-gaming resorts from the initial March 18 to March 31. Resorts World Genting in late March said the closure would be extended until April 14, after which the suspension would be extended to April 28.
The operator of Resort World Genting, which has a theme park located in the Genting Highlands near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, confirmed in its most recent statement announcing the suspension until mid-May that the closures also apply to several non-game resorts operating in Malaysia, Resort World Awana, Resort World Kijal and Resort World Langkawi.
