<content:encoded><![CDATA[Takchun Group, a leading Macau investor in gambling junkets, is preparing to open a VIP gaming club at the Nagaworld Casino Resort Complex (pictured) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital.
“Our VIP club in Nagarwold, Cambodia, will officially open to the public in mid-February,” Takchun CEO Le Bon Chan reported.
The announcement did not clarify whether the new club is in the original naga world building, which opened in November 2017, or in the nearby naga2.
“We promise to further establish our presence in the Southeast Asian market with our operations in Manila, Philippines, and Da Nang, Vietnam,” Takchun’s Chan was quoted as saying.
The Takchun statement was released on Friday and announced the relocation and reopening of the junket-branded VIP club at Macau City of Dream Casino Resort.
It said the latter’s relaunch was attended by City of Dreams Macau Real Estate President David Sisk, Melco Resorts International Marketing and VIP Joseph Tang, and Takchun shareholder representatives.
The club moved to the second floor of City of Dreams Macau. According to the data, Macau has six game rooms and 14 game tables.
The Takchun statement noted that the company had paid so-called “daily bonuses” to all employees ahead of the Lunar New Year last week.
Cambodia’s NagaWorld Casino Resort is operated by Naga Corp Ltd. The expansion of the complex with the launch of Naga 2 in November 2017 allowed casino operators to increase total gaming revenue by about 94% over the next nine months, the company said.
The Hong Kong-listed company in October said rolling chip sales in its VIP table gaming division rose 128% to more than $25.03 billion in the first quarter of 2018.
The Potential of Nagarwold’s Business – Nagarwold, which has a long-term monopoly on the Phnom Penh market at a time of China’s growing commercial investment in Cambodia, has seen several of Macau’s biggest junket brands move into the complex. Ra Gun-ah, from the United States, was named Ricardo Ratliffe, and he entered the KBL as a foreign player in 2012 and made his first connection with Korea. Since then, Ra Gun-ah has grown into the league’s best foreign player by winning five titles and three MVP awards for foreign players through Ulsan Hyundai Mobis-Seoul Samsung-KCC.
Ra Gun-ah spent 12 seasons on the Korean stage, breaking numerous records, including the No. 1 overall rebound and the No. 1 most appearances and points scored in the playoffs, beating Seo Jang-hoon and Kim Joo-sung. In 2018, he acquired Korean citizenship in recognition of his special naturalization for six years and earned the Korean name Ra Gun-ah. Ra Gun-ah joined the national team under the national flag and played in two Asian Games, the FIBA Asian Cup, and the Basketball World Cup, playing as an undisputed ace.
Until now, the interests of his team, the professional basketball federation, and the basketball association have all been intricately intertwined in Ra Gun-ah’s contract for Korean stage activities. However, after the 2023-24 professional basketball championship decision, which ended in early May, all related contracts for Ra Gun-ah were terminated, leaving the future in a fog. It is necessary to reconsider Ra Gun-ah’s status, contract status, method, duration, and scale from the ground up.
Ra Gun-ah’s contract with the national team ended after the “2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier” against Thailand in February and has already put down the national flag. As the contract period with KCC, a professional team, also expired, they had to sign a contract or find a new team. KBL says it will also discuss Ra Gun-ah’s issue at its board meeting in May.
When asked about the possibility of renewing his contract in February, Ra Gun-ah said, “Personally, I want to continue my relationship with Korea. But that’s not something I can decide on. It’s up to the Basketball Association and the KBL.”
In terms of skills, Ra Gun-ah is still good enough to play in both the national team and the KBL. Born in 1989, Ra Gun-ah was evaluated as having seen her skills decline slightly from her heyday when she was in her mid-30s, but she proved her strong performance by appearing to be rejuvenated in the playoffs this season. Ra Gun-ah also performed in the “Super Team” KCC, which has national team-level colleagues such as Heo Woong, Song Kyo-chang, Choi Jun-yong and Lee Seung-hyun, and took the lead in setting the record of “winning the championship match of the fifth-place team in the regular league” for the first time in KBL history.
The problem is that even though Ra Gun-ah gained Korean nationality as a special naturalized player, she is still in an ambiguous state of being classified as a foreign player in the KBL. This was a different treatment from half-Korean (mixed blood) players such as Moon Tae-jong, Moon Tae-young, Lee Seung-joon and Jeon Tae-pung, who were naturalized before Ra Gun-ah and also played for the national team. It was also a decision that considered that if Ra Gun-ah, who had the best skills as a foreign player in his heyday, was recognized as a domestic player, the power imbalance between the team with Ra Gun-ah and other teams would become too severe.
However, many pointed out that it is a contradictory “double standard” to treat a player who gave Korean nationality and wore a national flag as a foreigner in his own league. Of course, Ra Gun-ah also agreed to hire a national team member on condition of receiving a separate allowance, but the scene revealed that she was treated only as a foreign “mercenary” of the national team using the system of naturalized players rather than recognizing Ra Gun-ah as a true Korean player.
The biggest variable in whether Ra Gun-ah will renew his contract again this time depends on whether he recognizes his status as a domestic or foreign player. The problem is that the professional team is still too good to be recognized as a domestic player, and on the contrary, it is worrisome that the decline due to his old age is too high to be classified as a foreign player.
Many basketball fans argue that given the age and contribution of Ra Gun-ah, who will turn 35 in the next season, it is okay to give her the right to play as a Korean player. In reality, however, the KBL is a league in which foreign players account for a large portion of the KBL. Expectations for Korean and foreign players are completely different.
No matter how old Ra Gun-ah was, none of the Korean players has scoring ability and control under the basket. Moreover, the fact that Ra Gun-ah’s presence will have the effect of recruiting another foreign player could shake the game of the league. On the other hand, it is uncertain whether Ra Gun-ah will be able to continue playing as one option against foreign ace players from other teams.
Also, the contract method and size will vary depending on his status. If he becomes a Korean player, chances are high that he will become a free agent. If so, his stock price could shake the game of the league by surpassing other Korean FA players and have a significant impact on the current salary cap
However, if a player becomes a foreign player, he or she has to make a special draft bid again. KBL clubs may be reluctant to recruit a decrepit player, or there may be a situation in which he has to leave Korea because he is dissatisfied with negotiations with Korean clubs or salary limits.
Even if Ra Gun-ah remains here, if she is a foreign player in the professional league, the issue of renewal and allowances with the basketball team can be complicated. First of all, in terms of purely contributing to the national basketball team, renewing contract with Ra Gun-ah is close to a gain. While naturalized players account for a very high proportion of the electricity in the world basketball, the Basketball Association has not yet clearly prepared an alternative to Ra Gun-ah.
Ra Gun-ah has also expressed several affection and responsibility for the national team, not just for money, and he is expected to be able to play for the next two to three years with his skills. Coach Ahn Joon-ho, who took the helm of the men’s national basketball team this year, gave Ra Gun-ah the captain’s armband and praised his continued skills and leadership.

The clarification follows a press release last week announcing that Novomatic has entered into a distribution agreement with Australia-based India Pacific Gaming. Under the agreement, the latter company said at the time that it would distribute Novomatic’s full range of gaming products and systems to Asia-Pacific regions, including Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Goa, Nepal and Vietnam.
In its latest announcement, Novomatic clarified that Jade Entertainment and Indian Pacific Gaming are both official Novomatic distributors in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.
“I’m very excited to be joined by Jade Entertainment and Ino Pacific Gaming, these two great companies that represent Novomatic in Southeast Asia,” Robert Dijkstra, vice president of Novomatic business development and sales in Asia Pacific, said in a prepared commentary included in the presentation.
“Jade Entertainment is a longtime distributor to Novomatic’s Southeast Asia region and is primarily focused on markets including the Philippines, Macau, Malaysia and Vietnam, with sales and support offices in each country,” the Austria-based company added.
Jade Entertainment CEO Joe Pisano said in a prepared statement, “Jade Entertainment and Novomatic are working to develop the Southeast Asian market together, and we have evolved into several e-table games and system installations. We are looking forward to the future, especially with the launch of Novomatic’s progressive titles linked to new Asian-themed content, which we expect to have exceptional performance.”
Novomatic appointed sales manager Michael Bashin to support the region in a recent announcement, adding that the company’s sales channel has also expanded. Bashin is based in Hong Kong and reports to Dykstra.

Lee, a former executive at Malaysian casino brand Genting, reportedly left Hong Kong-listed Landing International in January.
Lee was appointed chief operating officer of Landing International in March 2016 after serving as chief executive of Landing Jeju Development Limited, a Hong Kong-listed parent company. Before joining Landing International, Lee worked for Genting Singapore Inc. for more than 10 years at the time. He has held several executive roles at the Resort World Sentosa Casino Resort in Singapore.
Landing International currently operates and promotes a casino resort complex – Jeju Shinhwa World – in the Korean resort of Jeju. GGRAsia approached the company to request a statement about Lee’s departure, but did not receive a reply until this story went online.
Landing International pointed to a potential net loss for all of 2018 in a February filing. The company said at the time that those expected losses were linked to factors including “an absence of profit of around HK$657 million ($83.7 million)” from suspended operations related to its lighting business in mainland China and its gaming business in the UK. The latter was understood to be a reference to the 2017 disposition of its luxury London gaming venues, Les Ambassador Club and Casino.
In August, Landing International reported a jump in profit in the first half of 2018 to HK$280.6 million, compared with HK$48.6 million in the first half of 2017. The year-over-year improvement helped boost Jeju Shinhwa World’s business, where casinos are open only to foreigners, the company said.
The company’s shares plunged after the group said it had lost contact with its chairman, mainland Chinese businessman Yang Zhihui, in late August. Landing International only confirmed in a filing in late November that the entrepreneur had “applied to the relevant departments of the People’s Republic of China for investigation during his absence” and had returned to work

Kim Hae-ran started her professional volleyball career in 2002 by graduating from Masan Jeil Girls’ High School and joining the Korea Expressway Corporation. Afterwards, she moved to Heungkuk Life Insurance in the 2017-2018 season through KGC Ginseng Corporation and won her first trophy in the 2018-2019 season.
After her debut, Kim Hae-ran played on the court for 19 seasons except for the 2021-2022 season, when she briefly left the court to give birth to the 2023-2024 season. She also played in a total of 35 games in the 2022-2023 season, when she returned after giving birth.

His wife Melinda Chan Mei Yi has replaced him in the role, he said in a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Chan is also a former Macau lawmaker.
Mr. Chow remains executive director and co-chair of the board. The change will allow him to “focus on the development of the group’s overall business strategy and policies,” the filing said.
“Looking ahead” for the rest of 2020, “the impact of the coronavirus disease has slowed the group’s positive trend,” Mr Chow said, according to a separate press release.
Macao Legends operates the game under so-called service contracts with the existing Macao casino operator, or SJM Holdings, in three Macao locations – Legendary Palace Casino, Babylon Casino and Landmark Casino. Macao Legends also controls and operates the game at Saban Legends Casino in Laos, Southeast Asia.
The same day Macao Legend reported a loss of HK$172.4 million ($22.2 million) in sales through Dec. 31, which was actually up 26.5 percent. Such sales were just under HK$2.36 billion, compared with HK$1.87 billion a year earlier.
However, its full-year performance in 2018 was boosted by a profit of HK$3.43 billion on the disposal of its subsidiary, Landmark Macau Hotel, in the Macau Peninsula.
Total group gaming revenue in 2019 was slightly below HK$1.9 billion, up 39.8% from nearly HK$1.36 billion a year earlier.
“The significant increase in gaming revenue is primarily attributed to the mature development of Legendary Palace Casino and strong performance in the VIP segment,” the company said in a commentary on its full-year results.
As of December 31, Macau had a total of 194 game tables (same as December 2018), compared to 177 in December 2018. Laos has 55 game tables in operation, compared to 66 in December 2018.
The group’s adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for 2019 were approximately HK$365.8 million, an increase of approximately HK$60 million or 1.7% year-over-year.
On Thursday, it was also announced that Mr. Zhu’s mother, Lampong Ng’o, would retire as a Macau legend director.
According to a filing in April 2019, Mr. Lam was 91 years old at the time.
