85.

Technical production specialist Blue Elephant has become the first UK AV supplier to invest in the latest generation of xVision Nomad 2.6 LED screen from Theatrixx Technologies.

 86.
Offering production services and custom solutions for events of all types, Blue Elephant has purchased over 100 sq m (320 panels – with another 100 to follow) of the new high-resolution Nomad screen package from Theatrixx, including processing from London-based manufacturer, Brompton Technology.

 87.
The xVision Nomad 2.6 indoor screen includes a die-cast aluminium panel design, with no-GOB (glue on board) module construction. Theatrixx’s proprietary TPEP (Titanium/Polymer Edge Protection) technology reduces the possibility of damage to edge and corner pixels.

 88.
Now, the second generation of Nomad provides brighter anti-glare black diodes from Multi-Color, offering colour gamut reproduction of ≥95% DCI-P3, with 100% blue accuracy at 1375 Nits, according to Theatrixx Technologies. New Brompton Tessera R2+ receiving cards provide the processing power.

 89.
Nomad’s ‘shaderless’ concept, using Theatrixx’s ‘liquid shader’ design, provides an alternative to the solid shaders traditionally used on LED screen modules. This approach eliminates the need for screws and brittle plastic, and provides a 170+ degree viewing angle, horizontally or vertically, with no colour shift. For this model, Theatrixx has also implemented non-proprietary industry standard IP-rated RJ45 and power connectors, allowing customers to utilise their existing cable inventory as needed.

 90.
In addition to new ‘lock and go’ top latches for faster installations, another feature is Nomad’s integrated rotary angle hub system, which enables screens to be curved at +/- 2.5- or 5-degree angles, with no additional parts.

 91.
William Kemp, managing director, Blue Elephant, said: “We arrived at the choice of Theatrixx LED with Brompton processing after careful consideration. The incredibly high refresh rate, consistent contrast thanks to the liquid shader design and exceptional colour replication delivers at every level. We know that our clients and their audiences will love the image quality as much as we do, and the integrated rotary angle hub system make it a versatile and creative LED product.”

 92.
He added: “Stocking a high-resolution LED panel as durable as this was also a significant factor in our decision. It means much less downtime due to the rigours of the road, better reliability on site and better value for our clients and partners. This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing best-in-class technology for all our endeavours.”

 93.
Blue Elephant is already a customer of Theatrixx, having previously invested in the Montreal-based manufacturer’s range of robust and reliable signal converters.

Designed to meet the demands of modern audiovisual environments, this converter bridges HDMI signals to Dante audio. The second innovation is the latest advancement in KVM technology, OG-KVM-IP Tx-UHD is a 4K@60 KVM over IP solution, designed to be integrated into an openGear rack installation.

 158.
The DA-HDTV-DANTE-Tx-UHD is a standalone box that converts HDMI 2.0 signals to 16 channels of Dante audio, allowing compatibility across various audio eco systems. It supports a wide range of codecs, including Dolby ATMOS, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, Dolby Surround and passes through Dolby Vision (pass through), DTS/DTS:X (including IMAX Enhanced), MPEG-4 AAC, MPEG-H, SONY 360RA, and Auro-3D.

 159.
The HDMI 2.0 input is compatible with devices such as media players, gaming consoles, set-top boxes and more.

 160.
Meanwhile, the OG-KVM-IP Tx-UHD solution operates on a distributed architecture, eliminating the need for a central KVM server. The Apantac KVM management software seamlessly operates on any PC within the IP network and once the system is configured, it remains operational without the software needing to be actively running.

 161.
When used with the Apantac 4K@60 KVM receivers, operators can extend and/or switch HDMI video streams with visually lossless image quality and ultra-low latency (2 milli). It supports required control interfaces over IP, including keyboard and mouse functions, USB 2.0, including webcams, RS232, GPIO, and Infrared – all up to 120 meters over CAT5 cabling, or unlimited distances when connected to an IP network.

 162.
The OG-KVM-IP-UHD leverages Gigabit Ethernet and is designed for both retrofitting existing networks and accommodating new installations, offering interfaces in both fiber and copper. Engineered with the Apantac visually lossless compression algorithm, this product enhances connectivity within an IP infrastructure. Whether facilities are upgrading an existing setup or implementing a new KVM over IP network, this solution is designed to streamline the process.

 163.
Apantac’s 4K KVM over IP solution allow operators to control multiple computers from multiple locations, and from a single control console.

 181.

Robe lighting fixtures were used to illuminate a sell-out concert by Slovenian singer-songwriter Nina Pušlar, in Ljubljana’s 14,400-capacity Stožice Arena, which was also recorded for broadcast on national TV. Lighting designer Amadej Šuperger, from design studio Blackout, specified large quantities of Robe moving lights. The designs developed around a large upstage LED screen and two side LED screens, which meant an emphasis on top lighting to leave clear sightlines.

 182.
Amadej used 36 x Robe FORTES, including two which were on two RoboSpot systems for key and back lighting. The RoboSpot operators were off to the sides of the stage. He added 28 x MegaPointes to this, 42 x Spiider wash beams, 40 x LEDBeam 150s, 26 x CycFX8s and eight PATT2013s, plus strobes, blinders, and fog machines, all supplied by Slovenian rental company Event Lighting.

 183.
Eleven of the FORTES were used for front light and keys, with the other 25 rigged along at the back of the trussing grid and filling in the main triangle piece, positioned for outlining, silhouetting and rear beam work. The key lighting was programmed by Šuperger’s Blackout colleague Crt Birsa – an LD in his own right – and was run live as dancers and guests came and went.

 184.
He mixed FORTES with the MegaPointes, which were mostly rigged around the upstage areas of the horizontal trusses. Šuperger says MegaPointes are his favourite fixture to date, but he also likes Spiiders, deployed for all the rear washes and in the top part of the triangle on this show. “You can do so much with Spiiders – they are fast, have a great output, good colours and are excellent fixtures even with long throws involved,” he commented.

 185.
He also deployed 20 LEDBeam 150s, 10 each side, to accentuate the lines and form of the triangular shape and to create cool eye-candy effects. Šuperger notes that the LEDBeam 150s also looked great when framed by the cameras at the back of the arena capturing the long shots of the stage. Another 20 x LEDBeam 150s were used for side light onstage. “They did a great job,” he added, “and running 10 of them together gives a substantial output.”

 186.
He had originally specified Tetra2s, rather than CycFX 8s, but these were busy on other event lighting jobs, and he was happy with the predecessor CycFX 8 LED moving batten fixtures once they were all in place on the rig. They provided efficient and striking ‘fillers’ around the back of the stage, across the downstage edge and along the thrust.

 187.
He’d originally planned to use the PATT2013s for the acoustic section of the show, for guests at the end of the catwalk and for the softer songs in the set, but this changed and they were positioned much more prominently behind the band and beneath the two side screens where their visibility enhanced this black space and offered more interesting camera shots.

 188.
The stage design was facilitated by an angled triangular truss in the centre, with four bracing trusses flanked by raked grids of crisscrossing trusses in the roof above the stage, which brought a structural look and industrial tone to the performance area. It also amplified the depth of the performance space.

 189.
Šuperger has been working with the artist for some time. But this was a bigger show demanding a completely new concept. “I wanted it to look impressive even without any lights turned on, hence the geometry, style and look of the metalwork,” explained Šuperger.

 190.
He collaborated closely with VJ Rasta – who produces all the playback content – on this aspect of the design. The 20-camera shoot was directed by Nik Gradišnik and Anže Škrube. The main objective of the show was to present a “big, bold, modern, mainstream pop, glossy-floor pop fill of colour, life and excitement to get Nina’s fans on their feet, moving and grooving,” concluded Šuperger.

 208.

Growth for AV-over-IP use is set to continue, with creativity increasing over the next ten years, according to Crestron, in a special report in association with Futuresource Consulting’s Olivia Lowden.

 209.
Sam Kennedy and Joel Mulpeter, leaders of Crestron’s product marketing team who work closely with the teams creating the brand’s leading AV-over-IP solution, DM NVXshine, shone a light on the direction of the industry over the next decade, predicting that AV and IT convergence isn’t finished yet. “We’re on that path, but it hasn’t peaked,” explained Kennedy.

 210.
“We’re seeing so many creative ways of problem-solving through AV-over-IP,” he continued. “A great example of that is through Royal Caribbean’s new cruise ship, Icon of the Seas. Most people have seen it on social media, but it’s Crestron’s AV-over-IP solution that is powering the ship. In the past, delivering AV experiences at that scale would have been too costly, too heavy, or simply too logistically challenging. But thanks to AV-over-IP, it’s now possible to create unforgettable experiences in the middle of the ocean on the world’s largest ship.”

 211.
Mulpeter added: “There are two ways of looking at a growing market. In one instance, the new technologies cannibalise the old, and in AV-over-IP’s case, there is some degree of that. But we’re also seeing the market grow significantly without cannibalising the pre-existing products. Year over year, the landscape is expanding, with AV-over-IP increasingly becoming the technology of choice for video distribution.”

 255.

GLP’s LED tools, especially the JDC family of hybrid strobes, lit up a concert by the Kenyan-Swedish singer and fashion designer Daniel Adams-Ray at the iconic Stockholm Concert Hall (Konserthuset), in Sweden. Lighting designer Jakob Larsson, of Light It Production, chose 68 of GLP’s JDC Line 500 in the Main Hall – supported by a handful of the new JDC2 IP.

 256.
The set also maximised on video, with two front projectors and cameras, and two power drops on the house truss – one gauze downstage and a regular black backdrop upstage on the same truss.

 257.
With the choir concealed behind the gauze, Larsson used the JDC Line to back-light them through the gauze, while set out front of the choir was another row of 26 JDC Line which came into play once the gauze was released, so that the whole venue suddenly came into view.

 258.
“In total there were four rows of JDC Line 500 because we also used the semi-circular hydraulic stage, and with Daniel standing at ground level where the conductor would normally stand we raised the stage 25cm, to mimic the typical position of the orchestra,” Larsson explained.

 259.
“I put one row of 16 JDC Lines in the half circle at ground level and with ten heads cross firing over the band. Another line was upstage on the hydraulic stage itself and the last line of JDC Lines was on the railing by the choir.”

 260.
The designer often had the fixtures backed off and was never tempted to run them in full pixel programming mode. “Since I first started using JDC1, I have found a way where I can use them effectively at low level, without using so many DMX channels,” he added.

 261.
Instead, he ran the JDC Lines in 38 channel mode (DMX Mode 7: MultiPix Quadpix): “This gave me all that I needed. I could still do some single pixel mapping but with the effect already in the light.”

 262.
Larsson concluded: “It is clear that this artist was made for the JDC family because he has both very slow pop songs and very dramatic material, so whether you just want an eye candy effect, a powerful wash or the strobe function, it’s all there. The fixture is so powerful it was hard to know when to go full out. This product was perfect for slowly being able to build the drama over the two-hour set, adding things such as the strobes.”

 263.
Daniel Adams-Ray was commemorating his 20 years in the business with sell-out shows at the 1,770-capacity classical venue, home of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. With the three anniversary shows over, production is immediately back in rehearsal in preparation for the summer dates, which will feature a completely different touring design.

 280.

Peerless-AV’s AV Showcase enjoyed a successful opening day on 14 May, at Lords cricket ground, in London, with more than 50 brands showcasing on the showroom floor, a significant rise on last year’s 30 brands, according to Beky Cann, director of global PR, Peerless-AV. The show’s second day is today (May 15).

 281.
“We’re in our fourth year now and it feels like a firm fixture in the calendar. Every year we get more brands signed up and more visitors to the show,” she said. “It was very busy today on the showroom floor.”

 282.
One innovation at at this year’s show was to run the education sessions in the middle of the show floor. “We’ve previously had technical workshops running alongside the event,” Cann added. “But this year we did something different. On day one, we had Michel Bouman, from Microsoft, delivering the keynote speech on the show floor, then we also had Greg Jeffreys from Visual Displays giving an education session.”

 283.
Another successful new event on day one was a LadiesLove2Learn Cricket Lesson, run by a professional coach from Middlesex cricket club. “We had 30 ladies in AV learning the techniques and playing cricket and they loved the session,” said Cann.

 284.
On the second day, 15 May, Ben Barnard from AVIXA, will speak in the same place at 10am, followed by Sarah Cox of Neutral Human.

 331.

AWE has announced it has become the UK distributor of US company Stealth Acoustics and will host an exclusive preview of brand-new models at AWE Expo, which takes place at the AWE Show Apartment, in Epsom, on 15-16 May.

 332.
The news was announced at a special press preview on 13 May, of the AWE Expo event, at which the new AWE Music Room was also showcased, alongside upgrades to the Reference Cinema and Performance Cinema display rooms.

 333.
Stealth Acoustics is synonymous with flat radiating invisible, or hidden, architectural speaker solutions. The first model was released in 2003. At AWE Expo, visitors will get a first look at the new generation of LineaRadiance invisible speakers.

 334.
Stuart Tickle, managing director, AWE, said: “Invisible and discrete speaker solutions is a growing marketplace, and one in which AWE has been keen to offer a class-leading solution for. To be frank, our no-compromise approach meant that we have had to wait patiently for the right partner and product, and Stealth Acoustics’ new Gen 8 models with a 17-year warranty offers just that for our customers”.

 335.
Brian Azzano, vice president, Stealth Acoustics, said: “I couldn’t be more excited about our new distribution partnership with AWE in the UK. We’ve had a great run with our long-time friends and partners there over the years, but AWE is able to bring a level of scale and service to our brand that we feel is necessary for an ever-expanding product category such as invisible speakers.”

 336.
LineaRadiance is the 8th generation of Stealth Acoustics’ flat radiating diaphragm speakers. The line-up offers a flexible solution as the speakers can be plastered up to, plastered over, painted or wallpapered over, among other options.

 337.
Up to five new full-range speaker models are planned for release in 2024 to complete the ‘family’ of 8th-generation invisible speaker/subwoofer offerings. AWE will be releasing full details and receiving stocks of the current range and the first of the brand-new models in May, ready to ship beginning in June.

 338.
Meanwhile, visitors to AWE Expo, will be able to visit the new Music Room and try out audiophile quality stereo systems, featuring kit from Denon, Marantz, Classe and Bowers & Wilkins.

 339.
In the upgraded Reference Cinema room, technology on display includes a 4m wide ADEO MovieMask LR screen with Reference White fabric and side masking. Driving the audio are the high-end AV amp and processor, the Marantz AMP 10 & AV 10, which powers 15 channels. Four Bowers & Wilkins CDA-2HD amplifiers are powering CT-SW15 15” subwoofers and CI800 Diamond Series speakers.

 340.
Also on view will be the complete range of Sony home cinema projectors, including the GTZ-380, which provides 10,000 lumens of brightness with a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut.

 341.
Finally, in the upgraded Performance Cinema, on display will be the latest Bowers & Wilkins ISW-8 12” in-wall subwoofers, powered by the new CDA-2HD amplifiers. The Marantz Cinema 50 provides upgraded processing and Dirac Live calibration, with power from the Marantz AMP 10 amplifier.

 342.
There will also be a 3.34m wide Adeo fixed FramePro RE screen with VisionAcoustik acoustically transparent fabric. This is combined with Epson’s EH-LS12000B true 4K laser projector.

 362.

Princeton University Chapel, one of the largest university chapels in the US, has updated its audio system to a Renkus-Heinz, complete with beam-steering capabilities. The system utilises 13 different self-powered Renkus-Heinz IC Live Gen5 loudspeakers throughout the main sanctuary, located on each side of the altar, on the columns of the nave, on the sidewalls of the balcony, and at the Marquand Chapel.

 363.
Complete with seating for almost 2000 worshippers, the nave features sandstone walls with limestone highlights and towering 80 ft-high ceilings, but its admirable aesthetics compromised the speech intelligibility of liturgical services. To resolve the sound issues, the chapel’s staff reached out to Maryland-based audio-visual integrators Washington Professional Systems (WPS).

 364.
The brief specified clear and intelligible speech for all congregants, as well as acoustically balanced music enhancement, broadcast capabilities and better audio clarity for worship leaders, the choir and the musicians.

 365.
With the system they installed, each loudspeaker receives an independent audio signal from the DSP and is programmed with specific delays to act as one unit, creating the effect that the audio is being delivered from the altar.

 366.
Meanwhile, the IC Live Gen5 Series features OmniBeam, an algorithm that offers sound and coverage for all venues, without complex configuration. The use of OmniBeam is designed to provide custom-tailored sound that covers the exact geometry of the space, delivering consistency from the front to the back.

 367.
The former university of Michelle Obama, New Jersey’s Ivy League Princeton University is one of the top schools in the United States. Princeton University Chapel, which gives nods to the architectural style of the English Gothic Cathedrals, was constructed in 1928 after a fire destroyed the previous worship site.

 368.
The cruciform chapel cost over $2 million to construct and was the largest university chapel in the US. For years, the venue has been relied on to carry congregations, host events and offer an oasis in the centere of the university campus for people of all faiths.

 369.
“The loudspeaker system was designed with the goal of delivering high-quality speech intelligibility and tonal balance for music, whilst also respecting the venue,” said John V Fish, senior project engineer, WPS.

 370.
Sam Berkow of SIA Acoustics, added: “The beam-steering capabilities allow control of sound dispersion from the loudspeakers in the vertical plane. This capability helps fine tune the system for highly intelligible speech in the very reverberant and reflective Chapel. Additionally, the IC Live Gen5 loudspeakers allow us as designers to control the vertical dispersion of sound to the point where we can create the sense that sound is coming from the presenter or worship leader themselves, rather than from the loudspeakers. This system allows a historic building to meet the expectations of today’s most demanding audiences.”

 371.
The system is mixed through an Allen and Heath Avantis digital console, and a Dante-based network is used to transport audio signals throughout the sanctuary, the choir and the altar. This network enables the system to move the audio signature effectively with low latency at a low cost – which means each signal can be routed as needed including to specific loudspeaker groups.

 372.
“By offering multiple modes of operation, the design allows chapel staff to activate and use the system without navigating a complicated startup procedure,” concluded Fish. “Additionally, the system has enough headroom to be used for a wide variety of events with no drop-off in quality or sonic clarity.”

 413.
The company’s intuitive DOOH media planning and buying tools, extensive automation of workflows, unique data triggers, dynamic creative support, and other pioneering DSP features accelerated pDOOH adoption among its clients and partners. With OutMoove now a part of Broadsign, its team will be able to accelerate its mission to further automate OOH transactions and expand geographically.

 414.
“OutMoove was an early leader in the programmatic OOH space and has been a Broadsign collaborator and trusted partner for almost seven years,” said Burr Smith, president and CEO of Broadsign. “We are thrilled to welcome the entire team to Broadsign and look forward to working with OutMoove to further build a more open and automated OOH ecosystem for media owners and advertisers.”

 415.
Mendel Looije, co-founder and CEO of OutMoove, added: “Our partnership spans years of deep customer connections and strategy discussions, and this transaction with Broadsign will help us take OutMoove to the next level. This acquisition reflects our company’s commitment to staying on the cutting-edge of immersive experiences as we explore growth opportunities for both Sphere and HOLOPLOT.”

 438.
Roman Sick, CEO and co-founder of HOLOPLOT, added: “We have worked alongside the Sphere team for many years in developing our technology, and together we have forever changed the live sound experience. 440.
Berlin-based HOLOPLOT has enabled a new generation of audio experiences with its proprietary audio technology. HOLOPLOT’s proprietary technology is focused on sound control, intelligence and quality to transform how audio is delivered. By enabling precise and digital control of sound propagation and localisation, the resulting audio is highly targeted, consistent, and immersive, providing audience members with an outstanding listening experience.

 441.
The transaction has closed. HOLOPLOT will remain based in Berlin and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sphere Entertainment as it continues to grow its business and serve its customers and clients.

 502.

The Milton Rooms, a premier music venue in Malton, North Yorkshire, has used a variety of technologies to upgrade its PA and sound systems after completing its most recent phase of regeneration. To deliver the optimal audio for the space, a NEXO GEO M10 line array system with NEXO P10 speakers used as delays, and DAD stage monitors, all controlled by an Allen & Heath Avantis console, were installed.

 503.
A truss grid above the main hall floor using Sixty82 M29, Columbus McKinnon D8+ Lodestar hoists with Tourflex Cabling, Out Board LV6 motor controller and Broadweigh 4.75t wireless shackles completed the installation.

 504.
C Entertainment Technologies, in collaboration with installers North Star Engineers, were entrusted with designing the new system after an independent assessment concluded the venue needed expert advice to overcome its poor acoustics.

 505.
AC-ET calculated the best options using NEXO’s NS-1 acoustic prediction software, which enables users to configure their speaker placement in any venue setup, and then predict the optimal sound coverage for the audience.

 506.
Oliver Stables, a director of The Milton Rooms, said: “The new audio setup has been a huge success and has made such a difference to the quality of the sound produced for our audiences. Every band and artist who has performed at our venue has commented that the standard of this equipment rates with the big arenas they have performed in across the country. High praise indeed.”

 507.
AAC-ET’s Steve Eaton, who planned the audio system, added: “Following the initial site visit it was apparent that the NEXO GEO M10 system would be a perfect solution for the venue. This was confirmed by NEXO’s NS-1 software and The Milton Rooms now has a very enviable sound system.”
