Monday’s update re-emphasized the brokerage’s belief that a theme park operating on the site will open in the first quarter of 2020.
Yin later explained to GGRAsia that one possible reason for the unavailability of rides is an unresolved lawsuit in the United States between Genting Malaysia on one side and Fox Media Brands and the Walt Disney Company on the other regarding what was originally planned as a theme park based on Fox’s Hollywood film and entertainment output.
Genting Malaysia claimed in a more than $1 billion lawsuit filed in November that Fox had unwarrantedly withdrawn from the theme park project. Genting Malaysia claimed that the decision to withdraw was influenced by Disney, the company seeking to buy a major part of Fox’s business. Fox and Disney said the claims were fictional and “not entirely unprovoked.” In January, they announced a $46 million counterclaim.

The proposal came from analysts at Morgan Stanley Banking Group following Thursday’s visit to Macau.
“We met with concessionaries, junket operators, and more than 20 investors on Feb. 21,” analysts Praveen Choudhary and Jeremy An of Morgan Stanley Asia Ltd said in a note the same day.
“We found travel to be a little bit positive with long tail [demand] after Chinese New Year, spring dinners for upcoming junk food, and higher minimum bets,” they added.
“For junket operators we met, overseas businesses are growing faster than Macau, but they are not growing at the expense of Macau,” analysts said.
“Growth is mainly coming from the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, while [Korea] and Australia are not doing so well,” they observed.
Many Macau junket investors, including Suncity Group, are reported to be participating in regional markets such as the Philippines.
Several Macau junkets also have facilities in the Naga World Resort Complex, including the Naga 2 extension, or will open soon. The resort is located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and is operated by Naga Inc., a Hong Kong-listed company.
Nagakov said earlier this month that it expects all “Macao’s top four Mega Junkets” to operate in Nagar2 by 2019. Nagakov did not identify the four mentioned junket operators, but added that Suncity Group’s Nagar2 operation “will be relocated to a larger and more desirable location in the first quarter of 2019.” Macau-based junket operator Guangdong Group confirmed to GGRAsia last month that it was expanding its VIP gaming service to Nagar2.
Earlier this month, Takchun Group, another leading Macau investor in gambling junkets, announced that it was preparing to open a VIP gaming club at the Nagaworld casino resort complex in “mid-February.” The announcement did not clarify whether the new club was originally in the Nagaworld building or nearby Nagaworld 2.
Total gaming revenue (GGR) generated by the casino junket sector in the Philippines rose 24.4% year-over-year to $51.94 billion ($995.4 million) in 2018, accounting for 27.7% of the total casino GGR in the period, according to data released this week by Philippine casino regulator Paccor.

“The establishment of a new office in Macau will expand our pool of Chinese guests through our overall marketing activities, including partnerships with junket agents,” a spokesperson for the company said in an email. The Macau office is located in the NAPE area of the Macau Peninsula and opened in February.
“The Macau office is primarily about promoting Paradise City but we are seeking synergy with other casino properties,” the spokesperson also noted.
In addition to the foreigner-only Paradise Casino at Paradise City Resort, Paradise, which is a joint venture with Japanese conglomerate Sega Sammy Holdings, operates Walkerhill in Seoul, Paradise Casino Busan on Jeju Island, and Jeju Grand.
Launched in April 2017, Paradise City is located near Incheon International Airport, Seoul’s main airport.
Paradise City’s first and second phases opened on Sept. 21. In November, it was announced that the theme park will open at a casino resort in the first half of this year.
Paradise City posted its biggest quarterly casino decline ever in its fourth-quarter earnings, the company said. Paradise City’s quarterly casino sales were W71.8 billion, up 16.6% from the nearly W61.6 billion casino decline recorded in the fourth quarter of 2017.
In February, Segasammi Holdings announced that Paradise City contributed W84.4 billion in sales and W1.8 billion in operating profit to its balance sheet for the third quarter ending Dec. 31.
