68.

Transporting oversized and tall cargo presents unique challenges that require specialised equipment. In such cases, drop deck trailers, also known as step deck or lowboy trailers, emerge as a versatile and practical solution. These trailers are designed to accommodate loads that exceed standard height and size limits. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of using drop deck trailers for oversized and tall cargo, shedding light on why they are a preferred choice in the world of heavy hauling.

 69.
1. Height Clearance

 70.
One of the primary advantages of using drop deck trailers is their ability to accommodate tall cargo. The drop deck design features a lower deck height compared to conventional flatbed trailers. This lower deck allows for increased vertical clearance, making it possible to transport tall and oversized loads while maintaining compliance with height restrictions on roads and bridges.

 71.
2. Versatility in Cargo Types

 72.
Drop deck trailers are incredibly versatile and can accommodate various types of cargo, including construction equipment, machinery, industrial components, and more. Their open and flat deck design allows for easy loading and securing of irregularly shaped or oversized items. This versatility makes drop deck trailers a valuable asset for industries such as construction, agriculture, and manufacturing.

 73.
3. Ease of Loading and Unloading

 74.
Loading and unloading oversized cargo can be a daunting task. Drop deck trailers simplify this process by offering a ground-level loading platform. The lowered rear deck, also known as the “drop,” provides a gradual incline, allowing for smoother loading and unloading of heavy equipment or machinery. This feature reduces the need for complex and time-consuming rigging or cranes, streamlining the logistics of transporting large and heavy items.

 75.
4. Weight Distribution

 76.
Proper weight distribution is critical for safe and efficient transportation. Drop deck trailers excel in this aspect. They often feature multiple axles that can be adjusted to distribute weight evenly across the trailer. This balanced weight distribution minimises the risk of overloading individual axles, ensures stability during transit, and complies with road weight restrictions.

 77.
5. Lower Center of Gravity

 78.
The drop deck design inherently offers a lower center of gravity compared to high-profile trailers. This lower center of gravity enhances the stability and handling of the trailer, even when carrying top-heavy cargo. Improved stability reduces the risk of rollovers and enhances overall safety during transportation.

 79.
6. Adaptability to Unique Cargo

 80.
Some oversized cargo may have specific requirements, such as the need for extended ramps, custom supports, or unique securing methods. Drop deck trailers can be customised and modified to accommodate these specific needs. This adaptability ensures that a wide range of oversized cargo can be safely and securely transported.

 81.
7. Compliance with Regulations

 82.
Operating within legal constraints is crucial in the transportation industry. Drop deck trailers are designed with compliance in mind. They are typically built to adhere to road regulations, including height restrictions, weight limits, and axle spacing requirements. This ensures that cargo can be transported without the need for special permits or extensive route planning.

 83.
8. Enhanced Safety Features

 84.
Many drop deck trailers come equipped with safety features designed to protect both the cargo and the driver. These may include load securement options, such as D-rings, chains, or straps, as well as safety rails or guards to prevent cargo from shifting during transit. Additionally, some models feature advanced braking systems and suspension components to improve safety and control.

 85.
9. Fuel Efficiency

 86.
Drop deck trailers often have a lower profile than high-profile trailers, resulting in reduced wind resistance. This lower wind resistance can contribute to improved fuel efficiency, which is especially advantageous for long-distance hauls where fuel costs can be a significant expense.

 87.
10. Cost-Effective Transportation

 88.
Considering the various benefits offered by drop deck trailers, they can be a cost-effective choice for transporting oversized and tall cargo. The efficiency, versatility, and compliance features can lead to reduced transportation costs, increased operational efficiency, and a more streamlined supply chain.

 89.
For those looking to transport oversized and tall cargo without the hassle of owning and maintaining a fleet, platforms like https://www.shiply.com/ offer an accessible way to find reliable drop deck trailer services, ensuring your cargo reaches its destination safely.

 90.
Conclusion:

 91.
Drop deck trailers play a pivotal role in the transportation of oversized and tall cargo. Their unique design, height clearance capabilities, versatility, and safety features make them a preferred choice for industries requiring heavy hauling. By facilitating the safe and efficient transportation of large and irregularly shaped items, drop deck trailers contribute to the success and productivity of businesses across various sectors.

 108.
All washed & ready to go with the cupcake paper baking cups to hold 2-3 grapes. Cotton Candy grapes first discovered at Wegmans and kinda spendy. The cheapest I’ve found these sinfully candy sweet grapes is $5.49 a lb at the G&E grocery store in Bethany Beach. Shop around – but they’re worth it! I ate some of the ugly grapes as I was washing them….because, quality control.

 174.
Lately, I’ve grown fascinated with the Instagram #BookChallenge and the #BookBento photo technique. So, here’s my rendition, see above graphic or make a copy of my GoogleDoc. Feel free to take, use, share, & make it yours! (With attribution please)

 175.
Confession: I’m kinda lazy, some book challenges are 30 or 31 days…I chose 10 pictures just to make it doable and easy.

 176.
Have you heard of these? Have you ever participated in one? For the past 6 months, I’ve been working on a new presentation for a keynote appearance in Ohio and it’s making me more thoughtful about the potential of Instagram. More clever ways to interact with Libraries, literacy, books, reading, kids, and our community.

 177.

 178.
UPDATE: October 5. I changed number 5 in the graphic & challenge above to #BookSelfie.

 179.
I have an announcement [taps mic] I am an idiot.

 180.
Here’s why. I’ve always LOVED the term #Shelfie cause it’s fun to say, where kids & people hold up a book next to their face, or covering their face, but ummmm after trying to make that a thing — womp womp, it’s not.

 181.
When you search #Shelfie on Instagram you get mostly pictures of ….well, shelves. But the #BookSelfie is the hashtag that brings up pictures of smiling people holding up books! So…. #BookSelfie it is! Ta da!

 182.
Here’s an amazing example from Johann in the UK.

Ghosts are too. They live inside of us, and sometimes, they win.” . When I first read The Shining a number of years ago I thought it was fantastic and gave it 5 stars, but it just never ranked as a personal favourite. On this reread, however, my socks were well and truly blown off and I had an entirely different experience. This is why I will always be a huge advocate for rereading – it’s quite apparent that wherever your head is at, or whatever life circumstances you find yourself in, can really impact how you view a book. As if that isn’t obvious . On my first read, I was impatient. I was just starting to read King, I wanted the SCARY BITS. This time around I was emotionally involved. I felt a deep connection to Danny and I could really tap into Wendy’s fears as a parent. A younger, more naive me would have thought “why don’t you just fucking leave if all this creepy shit is happening?” – well, until the snow storm at least – but now I can appreciate this as a last chance saloon for the Torrances. They needed the money, they really had nothing else to go back to. . The Shining is surely one of King’s scariest, if not THE scariest – a few scenes in Pet Sematary might rival this title. One scene in particular left me feeling claustrophobic and breathless, and I regretted reading it one night before bed when I was home alone. I love that there’s so much history to the Overlook and that the former guests continue to hang around . Jack’s descent into madness is terrifying. He is a complex character and it is difficult to know whether we are to sympathise with him or not. He’s far from a perfect father, but we are all flawed in our ways – just maybe not to this extreme. I shed a little tear towards the end, because I think in spite of all he has done, he does love his son – he was just the perfect prey for the Overlook to get its claws into. . I thoroughly LOVED this reread, and also the extra prologue and epilogue this edition has. The prologue in particular is something you should seek out if you’re a fan of The Shining – it really added another layer of history. . /5. . #jobisreviews2019 . . . . . .

 214. “Bento is a Japanese term of single serve take away meal that is served in a box – traditionally lacquered wood – with separate sections for different portions. Applying this structure to a literature response strategy results in book bento boxes. Here are some great examples to get you inspired. You will see that the box structure can be somewhat flexible in this strategy and most do not have compartments for different portions……An alternative way to express a response to literature that will excite students with its combination of personal expression, visual arts, technology (Instagram), creativity and hands on compilation of the bento box contents.”

 276.
Sometimes, you just have to wing it.
277. Or go for it. Even if it’s a wacky idea.

 278.

 279.
Like, a couple weeks ago, when our local weather person was going to be out of school & we didn’t have a quick replacement – what to do? Another #MHTVNews crew member was at home with a broken wrist & we were facetiming her in the studio before the show when the 7th grader Payton who started the facetime call, had the wild idea to put Kasey (our injured wing friend) on the TV show on using the phone! Brilliant!

 280.
But would it work? Payton took a picture of the weather script & sent it to her — I was busily trying to share it with her via GSuite – Payton won. And we tested the volume through the whole school. The rest of the school wasn’t so happy about that! (the morning bell hadn’t rung yet, simmer down folks!) LOL

 281.
But here’s how it came out — I invite you to play the short video below.

 282.

 283.
It wasn’t perfect, we wish we had used the set up as pictured above, just putting the tripod down on the weather desk – but it was a hoot and the feedback from our audience (the kids in the classrooms) was that the other kids really perked up and took notice!

 284.
I’m getting older, going to retire in 3 or 4 years, I’m not crotchety quite yet, but I hope I never get too old to try a last minute wacky fun idea that a kid has with “all in” attitude and wild abandon.

 418. Here’s a getting to know you idea to use with the kiddos. I’m going to try this next week. So, if it flops bad, I will be sure to let you know. Oh, and I’m NOT a great artist. So no salty comments. But I also think it’s important for the kids to see that to do this you do NOT have to be a gifted artist to be successful. It’s all about visualization.

 419.
Please open this up in GoogleDocs & go to File > Make a copy. Make it your own!

 470.

 471.

 472.
I was wanting an activity I could ru before the holidays that was fast and fun with a very little preparation. I’m kind of lazy like that – especially right before the holidays.

 473.
I’ve loved doing Speed Dating with Books. I’ve blogged about it here in 2017, the year before in 2016, and first in 2013.

 474.

 475.

 476.
But that activity takes hours to handpick hundreds of books, arrange on tables by genre or subjects, decorate with props and signage, and then afterwards re-shelve all those not chosen.

 477.
This is a LOT easier! You only need 2-3 things:

 478.
1. Music (I used a boombox circa 1995)
2. Kids
3. Optional: Scratch & Sniff Bookmarks

 479.
The scratch & sniff bookmarks are for the first 5-8 kids checking out books. If I have to see two ELA classes in one period, this gets them moving. I also have a free round where they can go ANYwhere!

 480.

 481.

 482.
This activity was a little crazy, super fun, & very kinesthetic! It was a great way for kids to get up and move into areas of our Fiction section, or library, and examine books they may not have gravitated towards and get to know new titles and genres. AND….check out books!

 483.
Some of my kiddos gravitate towards one part of our Library time and time again. They don’t really explore the other parts of our Fiction section, so this activity allowed them to see new nooks and crannies of our collection! Exploration For the Win!

 484.
Here are my directions – I wanted to flip the classroom (and save my voice), so I recorded a voiceover with pictures in iMovie after first creating a preso in GSuite Slides. Feel free to go to FILE > Make a Copy and have fun with it.

 485.
———–Musical Bookcases Directions———–

 488. ———-
489. Can I just say I kinda hate iMovie? I have always (since 1992) been an Apple
490. grrl but man oh man, I sweat and creatively curse whilst making an
491. iMovie. They say that when editing a movie, each minute of video equals one
492. hour of editing – but I swan, for me it’s double or treble that!

 493.
Here’s what it looked like in action.

 494.

496.

497.
498. Aside: Don’t you hate when you cringe at hearing your own voice? I think we all do. Except Keith Morisson, he’s a god and his voice is like velvet. Love the Dateline podcast, btw.

 499.

 500.

 501.
Practical Tips:

 502.
• My students did the best job when I had them circle the fiction section all the way around about 3 times before I stopped the music the first time. I’m guessing so they could learn the pattern.

 503.
• Played the music, had the kids move around, didn’t care if they ran a little (they got a kick out of that) and stopped the music when I made sure most of the kids were near a bookcase. I had the kids NOT re-shelve the books on purpose – leave it on the end of the shelf.

 504.
• For music, if you don’t have a nifty cool boombox and CD’s like me (OK, Boomer!) you can use a Bluetooth speaker or a laptop with YouTube, Amazon music, or Spotify. Make sure it’s either a groanworthy oldie or a clean version of a hip new song. Show them you’re woke.

 505.

 506.

 507.

 508.

 509. • Yes, the shelves will get messy. But I’d rather straighten the shelves than re-shelve hundreds of books. I would also suggest a shelf read after the activity – just in case.

 510.
• Side note: Is it just me or do you HATE when kids push back all the books to the back of the bookcase? I love them to be on the tippy edge of the shelf so they can be seen better, right? I’m always hugging them & pushing them forward.

 511.
From a reader comment:

 512.
What a fantastic idea, this really resonated with me! I am all about a hands-on approach with learning, what a great kinesthetic exercise as well as a learning tool to expose the students to sections of their library they may not have visited. This would go over well at the elementary level with student engagement (less awkward student movement due to being afraid to dance in front of their peers). There are many options to expand this idea with a variety of music genres and possible trivia add-ons and prizes. You might even be able to have the students do some shelf reading to find books that were in the wrong place! I’m impressed with how easy this would be to throw into action. Thanks so much! Kelli

 513.
Here’s an anecdote about creating the directions and video with one of my students.

 514.

 515.

 516.
I asked some of my fav & cool kids who hang out with me in the Library for recess, to pose with books telling them it was going to be used in a new activity and that I would be using the pictures in a YouTube video directions with the rest of the school and on this blog— and they gave me consent for that (some kids did decline – totally cool!) — but when I played the video for the class that one of the kiddos was in, he didn’t like it. At all. He said “I don’t want to be Internet famous!” (if only!) and he asked to be taken out of the video…which, of course, I did! It took some time, and I had to take down the original video on YouTube & put in Darth Vader in his place and reupload it. But I don’t want ANY kid feeling uncomfortable with being in any content I create for the other kiddos.

 517.
If you have a shy kid, tell them they can hold the book up covering their whole face. They can recognize their own fingers!

 518.

 519.

 520.
FACT: Only Lisa Simpson prays for standardized testing.

 521.
Standardized testing has really eaten into our circ
522. numbers as we spend weeks and months testing. I am in charge of tech troubleshooting during ALL testing and I proctor ALL the make-up tests. For weeks. Me. Le sigh.

 523.
During this time the Library
524. is periodically closed (I know, the horror!) but it’s necessary to test our kiddos who have
525. an IEP & require reduced distractions and unlimited time.

 526.
Standardized Testing: It’s
527. not like it’s optional. And I’ve kind of gotten to like my paycheck every two weeks and I DO aspire to my pension someday.
