The reigning winners of Miss USA, Noelia Voigt, and Miss Teen USA, UmaSofia Srivastava, resigned from their titles within days of each other this week in a shock to the Miss Universe Organization.The resignations leave the longstanding pageant group without its top two titleholders for the first time in 72 years, shining a spotlight on its practices. The resignations have drawn calls for more transparency into Miss USA and its parent organization, both of which have faced controversy and scrutiny in the past.Voigt, crowned in September 2023, was the first Venezuelan American to win her title.The title was a “childhood dream” and stepping down was a “very tough decision,” the former Miss Utah and University of Alabama student said in an Instagram post on Monday.“My hope is that I continue to inspire others to remain steadfast, prioritize your mental health, advocate for yourself and others by using your voice,” the 24-year-old wrote.Alongside the statement, Voigt added a caption that read, “I realize this may come as a large shock to many. A North Korean hacking group stole a massive amount of personal information from a South Korean court computer network over about two years, the results of an investigation showed Saturday.A total of 1,014 gigabytes (GB) worth of data and documents were leaked from the court computer network between January 2021 and February 2023 by the hacking group, presumed to be Lazarus, according to the joint probe by the police, the prosecution and the National Intelligence Service.A huge chunk of the data leaked includes detailed personal information, such as names, resident registration numbers, financial records and others, according to the probe results.

President Yoon Suk Yeol had his first press conference in 631 days on Thursday, but the general assessment seems disappointed, with many reporters at the event saying it wasn’t worth the wait, particularly regarding diplomacy and foreign affairs.During the 70-minute question-and-answer session of the press conference, Yoon took four questions related to foreign affairs. Presidential spokesperson Kim Soo-kyung gave chances only to four foreign correspondents, dismissing dozens of reporters from domestic news outlets who raised their hands desperately, and moved on to the next question category.There was no pre-arranged notice to the press corps covering the presidential office, nor a process of asking reporters from domestic news outlets to understand the time constraints. The spokesperson smoothly picked correspondents from Reuters, BBC, AFP and Nikkei without hesitation, as if it was obvious that only foreign correspondents would get the chance to ask questions on foreign affairs.When Yoon finished his press conference and exchanged handshakes with attending reporters, this reporter made a small and diffident complaint to him — while remembering previous cases of presidential security dragging out those making intimidating gestures toward Yoon.
“It seems a little odd to take foreign affairs-related questions only from foreign correspondents,” this reporter said, while shaking hands cautiously with Yoon. I will start by issuing a warning that there could be numerous heart attacks at the Seoul Foreign Correspondents’ Club as a result of this blog post.On Friday, May 3, North Korean refugee Kim Myeong-hee visited the Freedom Speakers International office in Seoul’s Mapo District for an interview with a South Korean TV crew. The crew interviewed Myeong-hee, FSI co-founder Lee Eun-koo and me.After the interviews, I returned to my desk and found a notification revealing that Myeong-hee had donated 1.3 million won ($1,000) to Freedom Speakers International (FSI).Myeong-hee was the Grand Prize winner of the FSI’s 19th “I am from North Korea” speech contest, held on April 13 at Harvard University. She said that after winning the contest she talked it over with her husband and they decided to donate her prize money to Freedom Speakers International. Her husband stressed how precious of an opportunity it was for her to speak at Harvard University and together they agreed the donation was a good way to show their appreciation to FSI.Are there any ambulances being dispatched to the Seoul Foreign Correspondent’s Clubs or their various watering holes around town? Myeong-hee’s generous donation may shock some researchers, reporters and others who lambaste North Korean refugees for allegedly trying to “monetize” their “trauma stories” or for rejecting interview requests unless they get paid. What do they have to say about a North Korean refugee gleefully donating her prize money and many other North Korean refugees I recently blogged about who fundraise, donate, and support Freedom Speakers International in other ways?
This is not a one-off relationship. I first met Myeong-hee in 2012 shortly before Lee Eun-Koo and I started what has become Freedom Speakers International. In 2017, she officially joined FSI to study English. In 2021, she joined the FSI North Korean Refugee Keynote Speakers Network. Every one of her tutors and mentors have enjoyed teaching her. Some don’t want to let her go to other volunteers, but an important part of our learner-centered approach is that North Korean refugees meet a variety of volunteers so they can encounter new approaches and perspectives.Myeong-hee suffered greatly in North Korea and China and her initial adjustment to South Korea was also difficult. She expresses gratitude for even small things in life and especially appreciates those who were with her as she successfully settled down here.Every meeting with Myeong-hee is inspiring. It is the kind of relationship that drive-by researchers or reporters may not be able to understand. We respect North Korean refugees as individuals reaching their personal goals, not as one-off or occasional interview subjects.Initially when North Korean refugees joined us a few years ago it was a one-way street with them receiving services. Our first North Korean refugee ambassadors, Yeonmi Park and Cherie Yang, changed that when they also volunteered for our academic team. As our organization has grown and sought to become more stable, North Korean refugees have grown along with us. It is becoming more of a reciprocal relationship in which we are partners with them.Two days after that TV interview and generous donation by Myeong-hee, she gave a speech to Americans visiting South Korea. According to Yonhap News Agency on Sunday, Nambu Police Station in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, recently summoned Jeong as a suspect for special injury charges. Jeong is known to have admitted to the crime in the initial summoning of the police.
Jeong is accused of swinging a bottle on A’s head in anger during a conversation while drinking with a man he first met at a bar on December 21 last year.
A, who is being treated for a big head wound, filed a complaint against Jeong on the 2nd for special injury charges, saying he was injured by being hit in the head by a beer bottle wielded by Jeong.
After the incident, Chung reportedly sent a message to A, saying, “I’m so sorry that I’ll be punished,” and “Please forgive me once.” <a href="https://www.bacarasite.net" target="_blank" rel="noopener" title="바카라">바카라</a>
